Firestick Lite (Sheldon) 7.2.2.3/7.2.2.8 Launcher Replacement and Debloat (No Root) - Fire TV General

Delete... Now obsolete on current OS

Hello.
I have a Fire TV Stick Lite running 7.2.2.8.
Gone through the post and applied the "Debloat the Lite of Unnecessary Sh*te", installed all the apks. I went with Wolf 0.1.7 as the launcher.
When running FTVLaunchX I had to run the below two lines first and then perform the permissions.
settings put secure enabled_accessibility_services de.codefaktor.ftvlaunchx/de.codefaktor.ftvlaunchx.HomeService
settings put secure accessibility_enabled 1
The original Amazon launcher still loads first and then Wolf kicks in. I can still access the Amazon launcher by pressing the home key. Also there doesn't seem to be that much change on the main Amazon launcher if any at all.
Am I missing something? Or was I expecting too much?
***** UPDATE
I have tried "Launcher Manager (FireOS 6 & 7)_1.0.2" instead of LaunchX and this seems to work fine for me. Boots straight into Wolf and the Home button also links to Wolf.
Thanks

Deleted Thread, Obsolete tutorial

I now have it running like a dream with Wolf 0.1.7, looks really nice just how I would want it from stock. Thanks for your help.

Delete Thread.... OBSOLETE TUTORIAL ( No good to anyone now running latest firmwares)

Hello.
After the full debloat I noticed that I wasn't able to connect to the fire stick from my phone with app like you tube and prime video. The phone was just hanging on "connecting to fire stick" when clicking on the "cast" button. After a few attempts I found out that the service "com.amazon.avod" was responsable for making the connection possible from phone. When I enabled it back it started working as normal.

OBSOLETE TUTORIAL FOR FIRESTICK SHELDON. MODS/ADMIN PLEASE DELETE THIS THREAD.. THANKS

Still running a version of 7228 but this must have been patched now, just get loads of Java exceptions when trying to do anything

Should be working fine ... If you're using remote adb shell try pasting in smaller groups of the disable commands.
I noticed it tends to produce errors and crashes the remote adb app when pasting large clusters or the whole list of commands.
I just used it today on a Lite edition Firestick 2020 running 7.2.2.8 new UI.
I kanged @0815hoffi hardwork as some people I know were asking for a debloat AND Custom Launcher guide.... I just copied and pasted hoffis scripts minus the (adb shell part)
E.G "pm disable-user --user 0 *****"
Regards
Edit : OP updated...double tested again on two different models Lite and Newer FTVS-2021

Anything like this for the latest OS?

well you usually don't delete something ! you can just ADD a note " with latest firmware is not working " .. by doing what you did " obsolete .. " " delete " .. you just created more confusion !
EVERYTHING become obsolete.. if you are worried about it just add a note

Not that i need to explain myself however i will in this case.
Firstly, due to the amount of people notifying me this was not working on newer fota update i had no choice but to remove it and prevent error.
Secondly, i wrote the post and decided it was best to delete it for the time being because... It was my post.
And finally.. The adb commands given in the first post do not work on any newer ota past 7.2.2.8 due to amazon telemetry within the ui/ launcher... so... until i have time to add my new tutorial for debloating/launcher replacement the post remains as is to prevent user error and screwed devices.
"simply adding a note" is a dumb idea as people being people would still attempt the commands on newer fireos... And who gets the stick for that when it goes wrong? Not you... Me.

for sure you got your reason ( unless you would have gone out of your mind lol )
i'm just saying that is better to edit the original post and write NOT WORKIN ON LATEST FIRMWARE ( or after 7.2.2.8) than if people are not able to read the post well they should learn !

[Q] Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 8.0 AT&T SM-T337A Root but NO Recovery

Hi Devs,
I've just joined and am uncertain of the proper place for this thread. Apologies if inaccurately posted.
I have the T337A, which I have rooted on ANF4, but I cannot find a recovery. I have read and read but am not finding the solution to my little project. I would like to get a safestrap on this locked bootloader so that I can install and learn to write custom ROMs. I have tried a safestrap but it was not for this specific device and did not work. I have also installed and purchased CWM Recovery and TWRP Recovery, in my learning process. The problem with the recovery is that there is no custom recovery written for this device and the bootloader is locked, as this is the AT&T WiFi/LTE version. So it looks to me like I need to figure out the partitioning image somehow in order to make a safestrap work on this device...as step 1. Is there anything else that I can do with this locked bootloader? I would love to have some help in writing a custom recovery and ROM for this device but I am a tiny tiny noob here and not a hard core programmer. If I could get some feedback on places to start for such a daunting task, it would be great. I guess one thing that I do not understand is why I cannot make my current rooted ROM the default recovery in TWRP. It asks me to choose from the list of supported devices. I understand that it goes: NAND --> aboot.img/bootloader --> recovery/or/kernel --> OS/or/ROM? If this is close to accurate then I would have to write something to the NAND?, which I'm not sure what is yet, in order to hijack the factory bootloader and then write the partitions on the sdCard for the ROM, like the safestrap folks wrote? It looks to me like they also included a version of TWRP touch which I used on the S4 yesterday and was really cool, so I guess that would be needed as well and is also why TWRP does not work for me now...it cannot hijack the locked bootloader. How do I hijack this hard headed thing? fastboot does not work to this device. In the process of this project, I have also run into a roadblock trying to update the /system/framework/framework-res.apk, in the manner that a flash needs to be done, I think. I want to change the /res/values/bools/bools.xml switch "voice_capeable" to true. AT&T or Samsung disable this on this version of the tablet, I guess to sell tethering or something else I'm not familiar with...but the way it looks to me, everything is configured on the device and I have a phone number provisioned for data at least. Why can't I turn on this switch and use the phone portion of the device? Any time I tickle the running framework-res.apk, it kills the OS. I tried compiling an update.zip aligned and signed with test keys or something like that but when I flash it, it fails with wrong footer and invalid signature...then it wipes me back to the stone ages. I warned I was a noob..! ...but not scared to brick some shtuff in order to learn this and write some custom solutions. An after thought...is there a solution for a bootable extSdCard for Android? This might lead to some options if it is possible.

We had a dev working to get safestrap, but he struck out. So if you can get it, I'll test. I too have the 337a. Sucks to have a locked bootloader and no dev interest.

Thanks pre4speed. I am taking a look at the two tasks again tonight and decided to take the res/bool = voice_capable issue on first since this will determine how brickable this device can be for me. If I can use it as a regular modem phone then I might be a bit more careful with the bootloader project I did some more tinkering with the framework-res.apk ...specifically the /res/values/bools/bools.xml resource and tried the following:
-------
Factory wipe
Flashed sammobile.com T337AATT1ANF4 firmware
Rooted
SuperSU
Busybox
Froze AT&T update service and others involved
Titanium backup and pulled a good backup
Online Nandroid and pulled a good backup
Installed my XDA app. of course..!
-------
Framework-res.apk:
Used total commander to copy the running apk off to the sdCard and then my PC.
Decompilled in APKStudio2.0.3b-Windows (I am also using Ubuntu 14.04 if there is a better way here..also Android Studio on both OS...just learning).
Edited my value.
Recompiled with zip align/sign option.
***Now here in lies the problem, if I haven't already created one above ***
The random article I dug up said that in order to get past the wrong footer and signature issue, and stone-age wipe, when attempting this via abd sideload with an update.zip, is to now copy the edited file back into the original APK using 7zip in order to retain the original signing keys. When I open the original APK archive, it does not show the resource folders deemed "important and I should not jack with them" in the compiled APK (mainly values/* folder). The article mentioned the resource folders such as res/values/bools are compiled and hidden and that I needed to copy over the new resources.arsc file. I see this in the newly compiled APK I made but it also put the Manifest.xml and /res folder in there. Do I need to copy all of that or just the compiled resources.arsc file? I did all and it boot looped me so I'm guessing that I either did something wrong or this was not the right answer. The last part was to chmod the new APK, use total commander to mount the folder as rw, copy over the file, and reboot. All of that worked and I had to reboot many many times...loop.
That is where I am on the modem part and am going to attempt copying just the resources.arsc in a few. I will post more on the bootloader side soon, as I've been researching what goes on from the time I push the power button until the time I swipe the first screen. Lots of reading
w/respect - PitPin
Copying only the resources.arsc file from within the newly compiled apk back to the original framework-res.apk made some progress. Now I have the phone dialer app icon in my apps drawer... but it is failing complaining about contacts. On to the next round of research..!

Stalled out temporarily on the tab project as laptop hard drive bought the farm. Back in action and made some progress on the tab voice_capable issue. Everything appears to be there and in working order but the SMS modules. I think this has something to do with why the contacts app is blowing up but not sure yet. GoSMS and EXDialer seem to work together without blowing up but the dialer taps the modem and then dies. Taking a break from this to start a thread on rooting the AT&T Alpha. I'm about half way through the exploit on that project. Any input on what might be my SMS problem on the tab 4 would be appreciated. Attached are a few screens.
Does anyone know how to removed the caution sign on the left corner it keep telling me unauthorized action have been detected.
I am in the same boat, I so wish this would come through because I do love this little tab.

so did you finally get it going or what?I have been wanting to get my Tab going as well. I've Rooted it and paid for an unlock even, which worked fantastic by the way...Thanx XDA!!! The rooting guide I got from here was right on point,no problem at all!!But anyways, I have it on metro pcs now on the unlimited $60 plan which is awesome (.REAL unlimited internet with NO THROTTLING ) for me because now at home I run pda.net, which gives me very good, fulltime, internet for my home computers as well as the ability to stream everything onto a large screen or even via windows when we want to watch with all the bells and whistles! No lag at all usually, and I don't use my hotspot because of the usb internet connect on pda.net. When I do use the wireless connect, it doesn't take any of the allotted hotspot usage up either!!All in all it's a great deal for me. I just got a new sim for it, called in the imei to metro ,which in turn gave me a phone number and data account, and presto!Been on the net ever since! Now that I've had it for over a month ,I wanna get the voice capability to work as well, being that I am paying for 2 lines now. Although I can use the old trusty hangouts dialer with the GoogleVoice easily enough. I want to be able to use my metro number mainly because these phone companies charge and charge and charge, never caring about us,or our need to have communication at our disposal at all times.Cell phones are by far not inexpensive and the internet wasn't started for us to pay aan arm and a leg to use.Anytime I come out good while dealing with a wireless company. it's a stupendous event,I'm telling you!! Heck ,I'm writing from my home computer now, going through the Tab at this very moment! Nevertheless, I'm wanting for the devs, to come through as well. With maybe even a new rom, sans the at&t stuff, of course, since I do now have a different carrier? Heck, the Tab is even great for when we travel! 24/7 unlimited internet /streaming , and the screen size is much better than the phone screen ever was!I just really wanted to thank XDA for the work they put in to help us part - timers out,Ive been rooting and unlocking and bricking and un-bricking for quite some time now,I even repair phones now actually, but the programming and the putting it all out here for guys like me to have fun and tinker with these phones would be entirely impossible without the DEV'S and their hard work for SURE...Thanx Guys!!You ROCK!

Huge system data usage

I have had some issues with my System Data being HUGE
I have done full on resets, including Dalvik cache and factory reset at recovery mode
It's still 4.38 GB when I look in Settings > Storage
Any ideas why this is happening or a way to eliminate it?
I don't see how Android can be taking up that much space, especially since this is a freshly wiped device.
I've looking into it some more and with DiskUsage and other explorer apps I see that there is 5.8GB of space accounted for, 3.4GB for Storage and 2.42GB for "System"
However, this is an 8GB device. I have gone through the whole thing on file explorers and it seems almost like it isn't even seeing the remaining 2.1GB I should have.
As if another Android system is there but unused or unrecognized.
I have the sprint v430 version if that makes any difference.
I'm having the same issue with the same version of the same tablet. It's driving me nuts.. constantly out of space, even with an sd card and having moved everything I can to it. Have not found a fix... or a root.

I see.. lots of us had that issue.. If I recall correctly what I did was to add a blank space before pasting the last command so as you can see from your cmd print you have
Code:
#sh ETC ETC
just try to add a space before pasting so tyo have
Code:
# sh ETC ETC ETC
it could take a while but it should work..
also if it doens't work after trying two or three times try using a new USB port or another pc, if available (don't ask why, I'm reporting what other users reported )

sorry but you said sprint variant but what G Pad? 7 8 or 10? I don't think there could be lots of difference but did you try googling if other owners of your exact tablet reported rooting issues?
Also I saw from your screenshot that you execute the reg command to detect the COM port where to send the sh command; maybe you could try to follow the guide exactly like wrote, so open the port.bat to detect the port, then close the new cmd window and then execute the sh command. I don't think ot could be an issue but maybe the reg command leave the port open and so the command fails.. really I'm just going random here
last but least, imo, you should try from scratch restarting the guide from the start, but I think you already do it..

yea. so.. i guess im going to stop here.. ive been rooting phones since the palm pre.. and while i may not be a coder, i can follow written instructions without issue. even king root doesnt work on this tablet.. [tab7 k430 variant, thought i mentioned that, or at least that it was the gtab sprint variant.. but i digress]
also, the link you posted, is simply an automated script to do exactly what is failing here. it may have worked in 2015 when the tablet was released and article was written.. but.. alas, its very very outdated.
thanks anyway

yep it is an automated script for this same process but you can't never tell.. can't say why but htis process does not work at the first time for lots of people, as you can read into the main thread.. for me it worked a lot of times both for my G Pad 7 Wifi (first year release) both for my G 2, sometimes it hanged but after trying a bunch of times it alwasy did the work..
so it's not a pointless method.. and it's from 2015 too, same as the automated zip, they never update it because it worked..
anyway after searching for your specific variant I find this specific thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/help/sprint-lg-g-pad-f7-0-lk430-t3180261
maybe you already read it but someone says kingroot + remove kigroot for supersu is the way, but you said it did not work for you..
last I was not telling you that you are not able to follow istructions, but I saw you did something different form the screenshot, instead of opening the port.bat file, just that.. if you don't think it worths to try as they say in the guide it's up to you, no prob

6055U Root method found

Hello all, I found a method to Root and get a custom recovery on our cricket variant, no donations required! You need to find a copy of sugar qct with a username and password, I don't remember exactly where I found it but it shouldn't be too difficult to find. Then you need to let it update to the latest build, which includes the programmer for our phone. If you don't see 6055u in the list it's not up to date. From there, Hook up your phone (may need to manually put it in download mode. Press upgrade and then navigate to the install directory, look in /bin and find where it downloads all the mbm files. Replace the one that starts with an r with the TWRP recovery for 6055. You may have to overwrite it multiple times during the process. If you did it correctly you will be able to boot into TWRP, if not try again. If you don't close sugar I believe it won't overwrite the firmware files, but I haven't messed with it much. I will try to write a tool to make it easier when I have the time but I'm pretty busy. Feel free to pm me with any questions and I will help the best I can.

Did a Google search for "sugar qct" and I see a couple of million hits for "The Sugar Act"...
Tried Root Genius, and it, of course doesn't work...
If you happen to find a link for the app or method you stated, I would be eternally grateful... My lovely wife and I upgraded our phones to the Cricket 6055U, and, since, while not an Android developer, per se, can find my way around the device without being scared off...
So, with due respect, I'd ask if you have the app or name correct?

This should help with setting up sugar. The only difference here is to update it and you also need a username and password that I don't have on me at the moment. It will be a few hours until I get home but I will update asap.

OK... apparently I'm an idiot... Running Windows 10 Pro, and the installer says it's going to install to an appropriate folder on C:\... yet, trying to find it, it really is weird.... Can't seem to get the beast to work...
If you would be so kind, would there be any way you'd be able to write up a concise step-by-step thing, if you've made it work... I've got the .chm file open on my desktop, and have spent a few hours trying to make it work to no avail.
Again, if it worked for you, your process would be welcome.

My point is that the site recommended seems to insist on Lollipop on the small beast... and there doesn't seem to be a recommendation for the .bin files, and, when installing on Win 10, it seems to install the Sugar app into some directory on my C: drive that is really not that accessible... Did it using a VMWare Win 7 32-bit virtual, and was able to access the directory, copy and paste to my regular C: drive (old Windows geek since Win 3.11... and DOS 3), and it seemed to run... (of course, running as Administrator), but it really doesn't seem to work for me... Again, I freely admit that I'm likely not doing something right, but even after some research and the included .chm file, I seem to be missing something.
Again, and begging your indulgence for seeming like a noob or a rube, but if I'm not making it happen, I rather think that the tips would be lost on someone for whom this is their first Android device...
Kinda frustrating, as, even though I've been a tech-support guy and database developer for more than 30 years, this thing has me stymied...
I found it fascinating for the *#*# command, earlier, from another noble soul, and, obviously, I also found that the device as configured says, basically... "Don't give a damn... you can turn this sucker on, but as soon as you exit this menu, I'm gonna turn it off again."
Just a little frustrating, and it seems that most of the tips and tricks elsewhere seem to be thinking that new owners of the 6055U are running Lollipop.... aaarrrgggghhh....
If it needs Lollipop to work, and if there's a relatively painless way to downgrade, and then upgrade from a ROM, I'm good with that... the Idol 3 seemed to require that, and it worked well for me, with just an evening's work. This one? Cricket seems to have had a warped sense of humor about it... I seriously dig the device, and, since my Idol 3 broke, and my lovely wife's LG G-Stylo (which was a pain in the ass, and next-to-impossible to root, and then be just perpetually stuck at the logo screen with an unfixable boot loop, if one screwed it up, and just required sending the beast back to LG, as long as one took out Cricket's warranty plan... <sigh>), we took the plunge on this one...
Not much for which I require root, but, since I spent good money on some legit apps (and lucked into a few ... ahem... not legit apps that worked for me), these things require root... I know there's a way to do it, and the Sugar app seems promising, but, mildly autistic guy that I am (and 60 years old, with a memory that doesn't work as it used to), a slimmed-down step-by-step doc would be helpful... should some noble soul put such together...
Apparently, the root method has worked for at least one member here.... But this weird old Jewish hippie doesn't see the mental diagram....
Any help would be welcome, my friends and mishpocheh... ("dear family" --- been here enough years, albeit a relatively quiet member, that y'all might as well be family... )
Hey everyone, sorry about the confusion. I installed on Windows 10 pro with no issues. As far as the page I linked you can disregard everything but the app itself. The update that downloads is marshmallow, and I've had no issues overwriting the latest version. I may have gotten sugar from a different location though, as soon as I get a chance I will do a better write up with everything. A helpful way to find the install directory would be right click on the shortcut from the start menu and click find Target / open file location. If it brings you to the folder with the shortcuts do it again and you will have the install directory. The app should be in (install dir)/tool and the downloaded updates go in (install dir)/bin under a folder that only shows up once you start the process within sugar. I will try to compile the information into a more user friendly format tonight but I can't make any promises on that.
Also just to clarify, I didn't use any chm file
I'm wondering if you could upload your version you have on your pc. I just spent the last month in jail here in Orlando fighting a case and the only proof I've got is on my phone on a phone that I deleted my videos on. I really need the videos back too get a not guilty if I gotta pay for it it's cool but I'm out on bond and all the recover videos apps require root
I got this to work last night. Typed up some instructions but didn't get them posted. They're on my PC at home and I'm at work.
Basically use the copy of sugar in the download package in this thread and then start it and let it update https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/development/recovery-vodafone-prime-tab-7-t3548560
Those are the basic instructions too except we don't need to swap out bout and use the TWRP from deckersu thread.
Once flashed it'll automatically reboot. I found you had to make sure you caught this and booted into TWRP right away don't let the phone boot. Then transfer SuperSU in TWRP and flash.

FYI this root method wipes your phone so I don't know if this will help your situation or not.
In sugar there is an option to not wipe, it's under session settings or something to that effect

Wish I had noticed that!! Oh well, stoked to have root and it's good to start fresh. Got Xposed installed today and finally got that annoying charging light turned off. Working on getting wifi tetherng working. Then if I can figure out how to get the dialer to be friends with Google voice this phone will have all its annoyance fixed
Thanks so much for figuring this out and sharing!!

Thank you for finding this thread, it is the same one I found but I couldn't remember where it was the other day when I started this thread. Hopefully this will help the people who have been having issues, although I will admit a more painless method would be preferable. I'm currently working on modifying a dirtycow exploit to simply flash the recovery and reboot into twrp, if I get it to work I will zip it all up and post it here.

Thanks for figuring this out!!! I'd been messing with it for a few days. The renaming the apk to .oat was the piece I was missing. That and a reboot got it working!!

MXQPRO RK3228A Help Please

Hello. I have a MXQPRO which has a rockchip in it, a RK3228A. I have lifted the mobo and heatsink to check but cannot see an image attachment on here Is anyone please able to help me root this box. It's currently running out the box fimware, 7.1 android. It's a bare minimal box with 1GB ram and 8GB storage. I'm wondering if I can do anything fancy with it. I'd like it rooted, TWRP possibly and another faster, possibly better ROM on it. I see https://www.atvxperience.com but don't know if it's something it can run. The computer I'm using is running Windows 10. Thank you x
It comes prerooted . Just install any root apk and you will see root works ..just install supersu from Playstore but if you do that Netflix apk will stop working ...there is no custom firmware so pointless to flash twrp
Hello KevMetal the device says root undetected when opening SuperSU. I tried Magisk manager too but that was showing the zip as not being installed even after I tried to manually patch the latest 17.3 on the site. Can I do anything with this box? It is bare minimum resources but its still not bad and could be even better with a better ROM possibly. I have booted into recovery via the pinhole reset button at boot but nothing goes through I only saw joy at the clear cache option. The atv link I posted above says the latest build supports rockchips can I get on that ROM ? Thanks x

install mix explorer file manager ..open it and open "root' section ..you will see a pop screen with strange Chinese lettering ( THAT IS SU PROMPT) figure out which side is "yes' and any other apk like sd maid ( to boost & manage device) ..in mixplorer you can modify "system" like deleting bloat etc ...
magisk is impossible because boot.img is rooted from factory ..so patched ...so no magisk ...i was able to flash an old twrp for Rockchip3229 via flashfire but it's pointless cos it breaks Netflix and we have no custom rom
there is NO the cool Amlogic based roms in atv link will run on our crappy Rockchip based boxes ...I have the 2GB + 8GB Rockchip RK3229 ...So I guess a little bettrr than yours ...
Hello KevMetal. I installed MiXplorer 6.29.20. I did not receive a prompt message when clicking on root it just showed me the section with many files within. Can I install root required apps? I haven't tried SD maid yet.
twrp is such an easy tool. Thank you for the explanation. I did try obtain files via seller or sellers but not many can help. One did send over links for RK3229.
1,firmware flash tools and drivers on Windows .

2, firmware of mxqpro rk3229 1+8

The box is running 7.1 out the box like I said above. Is that any better? Or is it same stock image. I'm confused I would have liked to try different ROMs atv looks good.
Is there anything I could do to this box? By the way thank you for your help I didn't think I would get much of a response having searched google and got pretty much nothing x

np problem . but i explained to you . the soc ( system on chip ) is the processor . we have the cheapest, less common , 0 developer chip ..ROckchip ( budget Chinese)
of course the ATV looks great but it is a custom but made for an Amlogic chip ...being able to port that to our device would be like saying you are waiting someone to put ios from apple on your Huawei ...just not gonna happen
if mixplorer is opening root and you can see files there and select or copy or paste there YOU HAVE ROOT ..ROOT=access to root filesystem
i will check the firmware but if it is links from manufacturer it is probably just stock in case you need to restore ....so the same but i will look
*i just looked __its the same as stock__it is just in case you need to factory restore your box cos it won't boot so its pointless
just install any apks you want by copy pasting them direct into /system/priv-app folder and delete the ones you don't need to boost your system ..sd maid is great for cleaning you cache and optimising system but you can forget getting something on the level of atv but at least you can delete the Chinese apks or sysyem apks bloat using mixplorer
just focus your attention on getting kodi running well and just leave twrp cos it won't be useful to you .......i mean what do you wanna do with it ? why is it so useful for a tv box ...i will sesrch for the twrp recovery.img i flashed but remember after flashing it and updating "root" supersu your netflix apk won't work anymore so is it really worth it ? for what just to backup up to sd ? personally i would just focus on making box boot direct to kodi ...remove all bloat .with mix root exploree..load kodi to max with plugins and that's the best you gonna get
you are one of 10 guys with this box and nobody will develop custom roms for it . sorry bro

I wanted root, or twrp root installed because of the basic magisk manager app but that was purely because magisk is soon easy to use. I'm not a pro with this so the app you suggested mixplorer is still getting around my head. I probably bar the easy functionality of magisk would have rooted viper4android on.
I did open the box and remove the heatsink of the processor to check for sure and it did say RK3228A. I took a picture but I don't see an upload attachment tab only a link attachment!
I used the box for streaming. Its not bad at all, low resource but it does stream well. Live tele streaming isn't bad but it is hit and miss because of crap software, I don't think its well supported as oppose to playing off a downloadable file. I don't use kodi. Only apps which are lightweight.
I wanted to try different roms for the fun of it really if at all possible. Thanks for the stock image verification its the first port of call when playing around so thanks again in case I mess things up or want to go back
Regarding freaktabs links. Are they all flashed through computer or can I use the built-in system recovery? Will they work. Sorry. I should register there too but like I said above I didn't find much with a google search when attempting to find files etc. for RK3228A so pretty dumbfounded on how to do anything with the box. Any help is much appreciated. I don't know how to do this if I'm honest the connection to PC is playing up not detecting the box at all with or without the power in the box. Any help would be greatly welcomed if I'm honest mate I know its a low resource box but I'm sure something decent could get on it from another chip may be. There isn't a RK3228A section on freaktab.
Regarding atv again. It may be for another rockchip but it says on the site the new release of firmware supports rockchips. Can you find it. And if you download the package it does have a 1gb/8gb version. Maybe for another boz I don't know but maybe for this one.

mmm well i haven't and didn't see anything on atv saying rockchip support ..
you can flash using batchtool in the link you already have or twrp ....what you don't seem to understand is that there is nothing for you to flash ...there are no custom roms for your device .,.you can try "porting" a rom which is to say taking a rom from another box with the same chip as yours and then patch fstab and swapping out ramdisk etc
search "porting" in xda to learn it .if you have atv rom with rockchip support share it with me ...
for now in freaktab they have a section for your chip ..go search for people with your box and try to port roms . i can't help you more
search in xda "porting" to learn how to port rom to your box ......
for basic understanding of root and root access to system folder i explained it well . if you need to know more sesrch xda university to learn information starting from basic beginning.
good luck bro
* one last thing * you have a problem
* your stock rom for restore is RK3229
__you say you have 3228A 100% certain ....

Hello. Thank you for your response it is much appreciated like I said thank you again. It says rockchip support on atv on the main page under the heading [ WE HAVE GONE BEYOND EXPECTATIONS…200K+ installs! ] at the top near the bottom of the paragraph.
I understood you when you said the box itself this exact model holds no support but I was wonder whether you could use another ROM. I will search port thank you.
I didn't see a RK3228 section on freaktab. I will have to post in another section or an open subforum.
Regarding stock firmware sent over. They say, a seller I mean who sent it said it will go on. I'm not sure how true that is being the same for a different chip. They messaged "3228A /3229 is the same . just different name for customers .3228A is for biger" lol

Jajaja, well i don't know in regards to 3228A and 3229 being the same ...if i were the manufacturer I wouldn't bother confusing people with two names
Obviously if the two are the same then obviously roms from both would work .
There is however a BIG section for RK3228 in Freaktab with more stuff than the RK3229 section cos it's older ...if they are the same that would be great news cos you could use stuff from both
We SOT luck regarding finding ready to go 123flash nice custom rom for our type of tv box .....
Could you please post a link to the Rockchip support bit on ATV page .. it's worth it to PM Ricky and asking him if there is ACTUAL working support for RK3228A&RK3229 but the only models I saw listed were Amlogic models in the "good" "popular" but more pricey boxes all starting with 9xx etc....

I don't know why root isn't working for you ...install supersu ( from playstore)..when it asks to update binary just ignore it ... then open any app that neeeds root and see if a su prompt appears ..
You can use mixplorer to copy any apk into system to make it a system apk or to delete any apk too since you can enter /root/system/ folder even if su prompt doesn't work
adaway won't work
I found the twrp custom recovery and even a custom rom but it's only
Hello KevMetal. I installed SuperSU. When I open the app it says Root undetected then closes. I tried to open it several times but closes again I'm not sure what's going on there. App version 2.82.
Making of a system app. For example viper4android? I tried a normal install but it doesn't install drivers at first boot just stuck on trying to install drivers.
Is there any such in-app ad blocker?
What's the ROM like any good? Would the custom twrp kill anything if I was to install something like viper4android?

Uuuf ...i would recommend trying twrp recovery at your own risk ...you might brick ...if you don't you don't need any custom rom ....just flash supersu .zip and adaway zip then you are good to good ... you can try an adblocker that uses a vpn to block ads ...sound mods like viper might break stuff ...you might get force closes or reboots if the install is a fail but if you are brave enough to risk bricking and flashing twrp you might as well try other package...i didn't try the custom rom but theoretically it comes optimized ..as in all chinese apps renoved ..esfilexpkorer..root & so on ..i think they also improved playback to get better video ..but i have only read about ..like i said from the start the only thing i did was twrp ...install supersu and sdmaid for optimization ..but root broke the Netflix apk and root didn't get me any closer to finding something that lets me use amazon video ..so finally I just restored to get Netflix apk working ( NONE ) of any of the netflix apks I downloaded worked ...only the original that came with the box and it stopped working with root ...so no more questions ..press thanks and flash something and you tell me what happened. :highfive:
Hello KevMetal.
OK I don't want to do anything crap. The box looks to be locked. I'm curious to see what could load up but at the same time cannot be bothered to be honest with the lack of support I should have known better reading of chip support before buying but having said that it is still a nice little box. I have removed a fair bit off the machine stock preinstalled crap and it is running OK.
I am reluctant to ask but having gone through all this chat could I at the very least have a look at the files you mention please? I probably won't do anything because I'm annoyed it isn't well supported but still just to have a look please, thank you x
The optimized ROM was what was appealing to be honest with you. May be on a different box now. I shall read, or at least look to see which is popular. Thank you again x
Hello. Can a lock be put on these MXQPRO. I tried settings, screen lock but it doesn't appear, the lockscreen doesn't appear after being set with a pin.
I haven't bothered loading a ROM. I'm just going to try optimize it as much as possible. Shame.

Thank you x

Hiya mate I think you have a rk3229 chips as they only used 3 chips on this board the AMLogic S905, S905x and RK3229.
https://chinagadgetsreviews.com/?s=Mxq+pro.
your board r329q v3.0 is a mxq 4k rk3229 chip
Hello pcmender2005. The chip itself says RK3228A. Its compatibility is unknown to me. There are pictures of the board here sorry if they are not clear enough I think one of them was uploaded at full image size..

https://forum.atvxperience.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=308
Is there anything I can do with it. Thank you for your response. I find optimized apps for example are smooth running so it was pure optimization was what I was after and in most cases modded ROMs offer that. ATV says of rockchip support but I don't know whether it supports mine and how I could get it on. Again thank you for the response x

Disable automatic OTA Updates without Root?

Hey i had two Fire HD 10 2019 (9th Gen) Devices.
With one i was playing around, using it casually. I used Amazon Fire toolbox for some personalization, mostly debloating and running it on Nova launcher but as an passionate Android User i wanted Root of curse. Well long story short this Device updated to FireOS 7.3.1.1 because i was not careful enough. But i still have the second (never used or turned on) Device with the not-updated firmware.
Now according to this Post: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=81211523&postcount=228 it is somehow possible to gain root even if its only temporary (that would be enough for me atm and very nice if accomplishable) but i am actually a bit scared to turn it on and disable OTA with ADB because firstly i am not sure if that is a permanent fix or if i have to apply the command every time i turn the phone on (could possibly be done with tasker or something somilar?) and secondly if the update could be faster than me blocking it (maybe i'm to paranoid right now but i want to make sure i get root on that device and really dont want to miss my chance for it because of OTA updates.
Also i tried to root it but without sucess (well i didn't know there was another hard button combination when the white triangle was showing so i was really close away from the finish line it feels like) then i went to sleep and the next morning i had the new update applied.. really unfortunate. Well thatswhy i want to make a better job with the second device!
Thanks in advance for any help! Have a wonderful day and excuse any typings

Try it to use NoRoot Firewall (VPN firewall) from Google Play, enable Stat on Boot, create VPN connection, select APPS tab, find DeviceSoftwareOTA app from list and set the check box to X (deny any internet access) on Wi-Fi and mobile data
Check boxes:
√ = Allow from internet access
X = Deny from internet access

I simply followed this post (below), and so far . . . no updates. As the OP suggests, others have suggested to him this *MAY NOT* be permanent. However, as the OP also reports, he had another device for 7 months with no update or even check for update. On all seven of my Fire HD 10 2019 devices, no update has occurred or even been checked - just the same:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=81095517&postcount=147
As for the adb shell stuff, that is beyond my current understanding. Learning about the bootless root that @diplomatic put together, I'm wondering that perhaps there is a script method that can be loaded after boot to ensure OTA is disabled every time. But then again, I'm not aware if it would still be considered permanent or what could re-enable the OTA (as the OP to post 147 above had said in the following post 149).

Thank you very much for the help. I know I can not speed things up, from a development standpoint but I also wanted to use it until there is a viable root option available

I've seen that Post and i was REALLY excited about it but i couldn't get it to work.. Could you eventually guide me on the way?
Need help with Step 9 !?!?
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=79626434&postcount=135
I am stuck at Part 9 !!
when i restart at this point nothing happens and when i start init.d scripts support app and "run scripts now"" i get the following execution results:
Code:
[COLOR="Red"]Can't aquire root privileges (date)[/COLOR]
[B]Executing scripts from /storage/emulated/0/init.d (date)[/B]
suboot.sh
[COLOR="red"]/storage/emulated/0/init.d/suboot.sh[121]: ./mtk-su: No such File or Directory[/COLOR]
In Magisk Manager i see that Magisk is not installed (and i can't without TWRP, right?)
I'm just stuck at this Point. I have read in some other Forum that there is a button combination that i can press while seeing that white triangle when trying to enter recovery mode to actually be able to enter it. and yeah from there on it would be easy i guess to install magisk and maybe init.d will recognize it then?
Thanks for helping
I got it to work! Thanks to the incredible help of @dr_docdoc :good:
I picked arm64. By changing to arm it worked
Very happy about it. thanks again!
I guess no luck when you are on 7.3.1.1?

not for now as far as I know it. my other device isn't working either
x
Try this:
Code:
adb shell pm disable-user com.amazon.device.software.ota
adb shell pm disable-user com.amazon.device.software.ota.override
adb shell pm disable-user com.amazon.kindle.otter.oobe.forced.ota
adb shell pm disable-user com.amazon.settings.systemupdates
Remove Amazon's crappy and stubborn Fire launcher (you must have another launcher installed before you do this):
Code:
adb shell pm disable-user com.amazon.firelauncher
