Where to get Odin and TWRP for T530? - Galaxy Tab 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
It's been quite a while, getting on for 10 years, since I've been running a custom ROM.
I'm quite comfortable with the process of flashing, I have done it many times before, just a little lost when trying to track down the latest/recommended compatible versions of Odin and TWRP for the T530 (Galaxy Tab 4 10.1).
I've been having a pick through on the Galaxy Tab 4 forums here, but I couldn't find a thread which clearly stated which versions of these apps to use and where to find them.
Can anybody provide this information?
TIA
Edit to add that I'm intending on flashing [ROM][UNOFFICIAL][matisse][millet] LineageOS 16.0 if that makes any difference

OK, So I totally missed the link to the recovery I'd need in the thread for Lineage 16, lol
Just going to try and track down odin now

Sorry to not get this Tutorial as elaborated as I wroth before but I get flustered by getting a error when submit
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I use a windows software call SamFirm do download VERY FAST the lastest original firmware from Samsung servers.
Link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s/general/tool-samfirm-samsung-firmware-t2988647
Note 1: You need to specify the “Region/Country” of the Firmware. For that, you can look at some sites that have the same Firmware (Links below). But don’t download from this sites, because is VERY SLOW.
http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=SM-T230NU
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SM-T230NU/
http://www.androidayos.com/galaxy-tab-4-stock-firmware/
http://forum.xda-developers.com/tab-4/general/links-stock-galaxy-tab-4-firmware-t3013128
Note 2: The region “BNN” is for the Samsung galaxy Tab 4 7.0 Nook Edition
How to use SamFirm:
1 - Model = SM-T230NU <-----------------(Ex: Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 Nook 7.0" = SM-T230NU)
2 - Region = BNN <------------------------(Ex: “BNN” for Nook Edition)
3 - Auto = ON
4 - Click "Check Updates", if firmware for the particular region exist you see a msg in Log Window below
5 - Check CRC32 = ON <--------------------- Check is the file is intact
6 - Decrypt automatically = ON <----------- Decrypt file after download
7 - Click "Download” and choose the destination folder
8 – Extract the .md5 using 7-Zip (Nota: WinRAR get error sometimes)
9 – Done, now you can use Odin3 to upgrade you firmware
Cheers

It sounds like you were asking about custom ROMs, as opposed to keeping official firmware up to date which is what BXA is talking about. For the record, instead of installing an extra app just to keep up to date on official firmware releases, you can always check my threads which I keep up to date on official firmware releases for all Tab 4 variants:
--Official Tab 4 KitKat Firmware thread
--Official Tab 4 Lollipop Firmware Thread
Assuming you were inquiring about custom ROMs, below is a list of the most popular and/or well-maintained ROMs that will work for your device (pro-tip, even if the ROM says it's only for the SM-T230, it will work on your device, but you probably will lose IR blaster functionality). Before you ask, there are no viable CyanogenMod-based or even AOSP-based ROMs for this device (or SM-T230). They tried to get CyanogenMod working for your device, but as of right now the available builds either don't boot entirely or boot but have bugs like Wi-Fi not working. I'll link to the thread with the relevant info and downloads, but don't expect much, certainly nothing stable enough for daily use. The list I promised you:
--Acheron ROM (well maintained, popular, great dev to interact with, and even though I don't own your device, my recommended starting point)
--Prism Barebones (unfortunately apparently no-longer maintained, but still a solid, popular ROM by a well-respected dev, a legit alternative to Acheron)
--TranchidaKat (seemed to be gaining in popularity, unfortunately the dev recently took a break from maintenance)
--T230 Smooth ROM (I don't really know much about this ROM, but from what I can tell it seems/seemed reasonably popular)
There are a couple more ROMs I feel reluctant even mentioning, and can't really recommend with any sort of confidence. The first had an OK dev (seemed to be in the up and coming, eager to learn but not experienced stage of being a ROM developer): Octagon ROM
The next ROMs I'm going to mention I can't recommend in good confidence not just they're now slightly out of date, but because they seemed to have a few bugs, but more so the developer doesn't do much to instill my confidence in their knowledge base when it comes to developing ROMs for android. Also they're not really custom ROMs more than they're just the stock ROM with themes and skins applied, as opposed to any real under-the-hood performance improvements: Everything Google ROM; the previous ROM with a Marshmallow skin; and Android 5.0 Lollipop Material Design -{theme}-
Finally the CyanogenMod thread I mentioned, even though as I said, you will be disappointed if you insist on downloading anything to try it out: http://forum.xda-developers.com/tab-4/general/dev-cm12-1-t230-nu-development-thread-t3190971
One last thing before I go, in case you haven't found the custom recovery you need, you have three (although the first two are more recommended) choices: an older version of TWRP which I can guarantee will work: http://forum.xda-developers.com/tab-4/general/root-galaxy-tab-4-7-t230-t2835264
Or a newer version of TWRP which should work for your device but I cannot personally guarantee that (click the link that says twrp-3.0.0.0-degas-160207-0212): http://forum.xda-developers.com/tab-4/development/recovery-twrp-2-8-1-0-samsung-galaxy-t2922795
Regarding that newer TWRP, I'm pretty sure I've seen posts confirming it works for your device but I can't recall for sure and I personally installed the first (older version) on a friend's SM-T230NU, so your call. If you have a strong personal preference for CWM as opposed to TWRP, you can try the following recovery, but it's not actively maintained any longer, so be warned. Although to be fair, it works fine as far as I can tell, so again your call: http://forum.xda-developers.com/tab-4/development/recovery-philz-smnu-t2980094

it is galaxy note 8.0 gt n5105. Also it has wifi and lte
Think 5100 is similar.
Install android 7.1.2
I update n5105 from android 4.2.2 to android 7.1.2. Everything seems good. but there is no Samsung application. I install from Google play. But any of them does not work. Especially I want to use snote and spen. But does not work. How can I add samsung applications? İs there anything like Gapps may be called Sapps?
As far as I know, those Samsung applications will work only with Samsung ROMs. They need some proprietary functions not present in third party builds. There is software to use the pen, though. Coto Note comes to mind. Haven't used it for anything but brief testing, though.
Samsung apps mostly works only on Samsung Rom. There are some modded als also for Stock (vanilla) Android.
So if you use that 7.1.2 Rom you must find other apps than Samsung ones. They won't work.

Would you mind sharing the secret to getting that installed? I'm trying to do the same thing, but I can't get past the signature verification error. I'm not sure what to do.
Just got given Samsung GT-N5110, Yikes KitKat lol... Lets not!
Good old Odin, TWRP and now trying this build!
Glad I found this post with useful links, near end of 2021 too!!
Thanks!
This is crazy was asked can I do anything with it was going in Bin! I said wait No! that tablet is old, guy said you can't load much on it because it was old...
Actually really good old tablet, I went from memory and this forum...
I am not at Noob so skipped through a lot and did what I membered!
Same keys as S3, put in Download mode, use Odin to blast bootloader, reboot and quickly press right key combo before official software kicks it out.
Reboot again and see friendly TWRP as your bootloader.
I just saved a not bad old tablet from bin! I gonna keep, so glad for this forum!!!!
My main and only phone is a Samsung Galaxy A10 because it is my only 4G device decided not to mess with it BUT was phone to try with device I was given as tablet... Never push your luck!
I have made a brick before in my time!!!
Happy ending here!!!
Nice to be back!
Yes that old Samsung Note 8 has got new lease of life!
What memories from S3 that good old reflash Boot loader and hit key combo before original bootloader is retained!
Got TWRP going, got my Gapps and root, job done, nice!
WARNING:- Anyone with old Note 8 please don't just jump in! Yes it is possible, don't ask me if your a Noob, don't ask me what is a bootloader, what is Odin, what is TWRP, what is Root?... You can turn your tablet into chopping board! I am playing with Lineage on mine, you playing with Cucumber on yours?
Thankyou awesome links!
Nice Job, last step TWRP root file and enable in Dev Options!
Fully Rooted and enjoying the fact someone is still updating build for patch level.
Old tablet but not that bad once you get rid of KitKat lol!
This guy was going to chuck it out and said to me it will be limited because of old software... He told me dispose of it.... Just showed him now and he asked why did Samsung do this update for you not us, answer is they didn't!
This is why I love Android over Apple!

Best root process?

I’m going to wait a little bit before doing my root. I had a Galaxy Tab S 10.5 recently die on me. I tried replacing the charging port and the battery but the thing was still dead. So I ordered an S5e. It should be arriving tomorrow. I’m just curious what everyone is doing with it now. I did a quick search and it looks like root is available now. But the instructions I found are outdated saying a recovery method (TWRP) wasn’t available but there was a news announcement saying it now was. So I’m kind of lost.
Like I said, I want to play around with it unmodded for a while before I root it. Just looking for a clear cut “best” way to go about doing it and seeing what the most recommended options are.
On my s10 I remember having TWRP as the recovery and Cyanogen was the OS.
Thanks!

I spent the whole weekend in my new s5e wifi edition, the truth as follows:
There are 4 ROMs for this tablet:
Original (shipped with Samsung ROM, Android 9) - Everything works fine, antutu v8 183k, but full of crapware from Samsung, suspicious apps and services, don't waste your time doing root on this ROM
LineageOS 16 (Android 9) - So far the best ROM at this moment, antutu v8 183k too, stable and HDMI issues too, but there is a workaround, (look my other HDMI problem thread)
LineageOS 17 (Android 10) - Trebuchet launcher crashing constantly, HDMI issues so I didn't test antutu because felt too unstable, so I gave up too
LuisROM - antutu v8 170k and HDMI issues too, so I gave up
I installed all the ROMs using TWRP, the root just works with magisk, the official LOS16 root su zip doesn't work. Once you have the TWRP installed you can just install the magisk .zip the same way you do with the ROMs, then the magisk manager will appear installed automatically where you can check the root status. Good luck!

Why not root the original rom and delete as much crapware as possible after root? That was my plan when my tab S5e will arrive.
You speak about TWRP but in this guide: https://forum.xda-developers.com/tab-s5e/how-to/galaxy-tab-s5e-sm-t720-root-t3947806 and that is the only decent one I could find, they explain that TWRP does not work on the Tab S5e because of changes Samsung made. Are yu saying that TWRP works?

Those posts are a reference, dont follow their procedures hoping that will work as they described... yes I AM using TWRP it works, get from their website "twrp-3.3.1-4-gts4lvwifi.img.tar" and "vbmeta.tar" then via ODIN, flash them, one each time, rebooting after the process. Once you have the TWRP installed, you can play around with any ROM and do the root as I explained before. I don't trust in a ROM full of crapware, its my point of view, cleaning based on tests you can never be sure if there is nothing left stealing your data or forcing updates or whatever samsung decides... so LOS is the way, clean, open-source, nothing to hide.

that is amazing news....I would love to try this out with my device and downloaded the files you suggested. I also found "PGP Signature vbmeta.tar.asc", do I need that too?
I have to admit that I have not much experiencing rooting...I only installed TWRP on my Samsung J5 phone years ago and after that I loaded another rom (I think lineage) on it. a stripped down version that offered more intern memory and that is still running smooth on my phone today.
So would it be possible to give me some more advice? Is it correct that I have to connect the S5e with Odin by booting it in download mode? And can you tell me where I have to load the files in Odin? Is it in the AP section?
And are there options I have to enable in Odin? (I heard something about a reboot option you have to enable or disable).
I hope you can help me with those questions. What model of tab are you using btw? Is it a 720 ?
Thanx in advance,

Galaxy Tab 4 "Value Edition" (SM-T533, matissevewifixxx)

Hi everybody,
I've been looking up and down in this sub-forum but can't seem to find an up-to-date ROM (Nougat or up) that seems to be suited as a daily driver for the Tab 4 SM-T533 "Value Edition" (WiFi only, no LTE). I understand it has a different SoC than the regular Tab 4, hence the ROMs available for that one won't work.
Does anyone have a recommendation for a good alternative?
Currently, I am still on Stock Android 5, rooted (with SuperSU) and TWRP in place. So, I'm good to go, just need a decent ROM.
Thanks for any hints and tips!
Cheers
I have the Tab 4 10.1 wifi only edition t530 and there are craploads of roms. Old but still available. Most don't have working camera. I'm currently running a Dual Boot setup where Stock is my primary rom and LineageOS 14.1 is my secondary rom i can boot into whenever I'd like. Pie has also just been released for this device.

Thanks for getting back. Also for reminding me that I forgot to mention the model name. I edited the OP to point out that it's a SM-T533.
Now, the trouble is that the SM-T533 and the SM-T530 supposedly have different hardware so the ROMs for the 530 wouldn't run on the 533.
I'd be happy with Nougat already. Wouldn't even need to be Oreo or Pie.
Too bad, but it seems there aren't enough devices out there so that it would make sense for any developer to spend the time porting a ROM to the SM-T533.
Cheers

Hiya
i acquired ex demo model of the tab4 T530 and T533.
i managed to fix the T530 model flashing with Odin but no joy on the T533.
what i noticed is the the firmware for the T530 had BL CS and AP files ,but the T533 are only i big file, @Poorusernamechoice developer was supposed to break the firmware into AP BL and CS but alas i have not heard anything back , please assist anyone who has the know how
@musafir 7 Thanks for your reply. I don't believe that after two more years chances have become bigger that anyone puts a minute of work into this. :-( By the way: We still have the tab and it's still running, though it's being used only scarcely now.

Thank you for your reply,my tablet is still in a demo mode smirking at me,could some one assist @thisisapoorusername explained to me what i need to do but we mere mortalz lack the confidence to execute the linux command to split the SM-T533 firmware in to AP BL and CS.

Custom ROMs?

Are there any custom roms i can use with this tablet, Thank you.
If you look around about you'll find out these are Treble devices so you can use GSI's on these.
But would one be able to find for instance, a ressurrection remix treble image??? Then I'd want to know how to root the tablets, if I decided to buy one, of course, there's the question of, "would I brick it" since I'm used to doing phones, and everything is so hard to go custom on these days, since being made rootless only at around android 10, at least for stock android
I'm trying to update my samsung galaxy tab 3 8.0 WiFi to a custom rom and what custom rom would work on the tablet and can I install a custom rom on the tablet with out a computer can someone point me in the right direction thanks

You might want to search the Samsung Galaxy Tab forums for this answer. The development community around the galaxy tabs is quite active depending on the model. You can locate the model number of your tablet under the settings menu or on the back of the tablet by the bottom. It should be something like model number SM-T*** Mine is an SM-T380. Search the model number and you might find a better answer
