bricked 10.1 I don't have any logo, just block screen. sp tools didn't help:( - Walmart Onn Tablets General

hey guys, i think my 10.1 is fully bricked.
I tried using the tool but no go.
it boot up with black screen and no logo or recovery

What model number does your tablet show on the back in the lower right. If you managed to get one of the newer 10.1s when they replaced the original, that may be the issue. I don't have both models to test but I believe there may be some partition differences between the original vs tnnv 10.1 models. That would explain it not being able to find the boot animation after a restore. I tried browsing through some of your older posts but didn't see that you ever mentioned your exact model number.

Okay so there are 2 images available for that model on the backup thread. One thing you may want to be careful about in SP tools is to make sure all the available images in the backup are checked before you hit the button to begin. I believe caffienepizza!'s backups only have the required items and having the issue you describe, you'll need to do full overwrite. I don't know how familiar you are with SP Tools but its the first restoration application I've run into that the device has to be off and gives no sign that anything is being loaded. I avoided mediatek devices to this point but the tablet market being what it is, this was the best device anywhere near my price point. I usually wait a few seconds after the check box image shows up in sp tools before disconnecting the device. You aren't getting any errors in sp tools when you do a full restore are you?

In the thread 100003562 CFW root help. There is a full backup you can use sp flash tools to restore. Just turn the system off and plug it in sp flash only works with the unit turned off.

how comparable is 2.3.1 and 2.3.3 and how similar would the cwm be? I ask because I have a cheap dopo md-702 tablet that I would like to try working with. It has 2.3.1 and I was wondering how to get cwm to work with the tablet. It has a rockchip rk2918 so any ideas on where to start digging?

Most cheap tablets cannot have cwm due to the lack of recovery menu. Cheap tablets are already rooted. Just install superuser and do whatever you want with. But once again. Due to lack of recovery you have to be careful with what you do.

In a very interesting sort of way the tablet has a recovery mode but it takes multiple steps to get to it. The long and short I used quick boot app to boot to recovery (which looked similar to a download mode) and then had to try different key presses to get into the actual recovery mode. I can run an update.zip from the menu but nothing else. It looks so similar to what the modded cwm is for our phones that I wonder if there was a way to look at the codes and compare. Also note worthy after I used Titanium Backup to unistall the phone (bad idea) I had to hit the reset button to see if I could start it back up, and it booted back to just the basic apps but still had the google play app (this tablet did not come with google play originally). There are just so many little nuances that I'm not sure what is going on with this tablet. I need to have some time to connect it to my PC so I can see if there is a way to look at the tablet through the computer similar to what I used to do with my windows phone.
There is also an upgraded model of the tablet that has 4.0, with a 1.2Ghz instead of 1Ghz processor. Is the OS (android 4.0) a part of the firmware? If I have the firmware from the newer model what are the chances it would work with the older model?
I want to copy this post over to the tablet thread and hopefully get some hits over there.

As long as you have a way to get to recovery from boot up you shouldn't have much of a problem. And Android and Windows work differently on many things. But android is more open. *you can do whatever with it* and if I'm not mistaken you can upgrade your firmware to 4.0 through recovery. Some tablets you can upgrade by downloading the firmware on the tablet's site.. Try that if it doesn't have the option to do a system update in the settings.
Right now I'm bricked, used the firmware from the upgraded model but worried that because there a gig of additional memory, but the rest of the hardware specs are identical, so right will not boot. Fuzzy lines, going to try and drain battery then charge and boot into recovery.
Let me clarify, I used the firmware from the manufacturer for the upgraded model. So I thought out would work. I've not given up but not optimistic. If I'm lucky someone can pull the original firmware and I can miraculously get it into download mode again for a reflash, that is if I can't get a factory reset.
UPDATE: I can power on to the first animation, the infamous penguin. Going to see if either computer will notice it tomorrow. If neither will, I'm not sure I can do any thing more.
UPDATE: it will connect but windows doesn't recognize it. I'm thinking I have options but will take time.

Asus Zenpad 10 (Z300M) Boot Loop after update

Hi everyone,
I just updated my Asus Zenpad 10 (Z300M) via OTA.
The tablet booted and I saw the Lock screen. But after a couple of second it reboot.
I've tried a factory reset. BU it's the same probleme: It boot up to the "first start" prompt, and after a couple of second reboot.
I tried to install a custom recovery to flash a new rom with SP-Flash Tool (following this post nstalling TWRP and rooting Asus Zenpad 10 (Z300m))
But I got an error when I readBack.
And even if I flash the recovery, I can't access it on the tablet. I got a message "Your device has failed verification and may not work properly" when I try to go to recovery
Can you help me with this ?
Thank you
Same problem. When WiFi is ON.
When I put WiFi OFF - the tablet works fine.
Last firmware doesn't help, reset too. I think there is no solution at this moment, except maybe to flash an old firmware with Android 6.
I'll replace it in store. No idea about Asus control quality of their firmware... but this problem is pretty common.

What I do not understand! Purchased this tablet due to the thread you mention on here for TWRP using the SP Flash Tool 5.132, right? I just went ahead and used the SP Flash Tool version been using and got that individual error right at the end so did NOT try flashing the recovery! He was very talkative B4 getting this tablet but now after speaking of errors, no responses.....? The version SPFL he says is the only one that works, its option.ini file DOES NOT have the READBACK part in it for changing from false to true...... the very next versions of SPFT after do.....
any ideas????

Bro, are you serious? I don't reply to your messages for a few hours so you call that whole recovery/rooting thread some kind of a scam or conspiracy? (This is not my day job btw.) The error messages you are talking about are a result of you rushing into this thing and not doing your homework, skimming the directions and/or failing to use common sense. Of course SPFT 5.1532 does not have the read-by-partition option. That's why we use a later version for that. Exactly as it says in the OP. And if you were to do your homework, you would find out that the "..failed verification.." and/or "...different operating system.." messages are expected because of verified boot process built into the bootloader.
I'll give you that

The link on the Z380M is what threw a flag for me because that Asus tab isnt rootable. If this is some combo of slipups between tools & devices that lines up just right to get TWRP on its not described very well in the OP. Using the 5.132 (?) you can not readback with that option.ini file.... so what am I missing? The bootloader unlock app isn't written for this tablet is it? written for the zenphone 2 (3)?
Wow, I'm not sure if you're trolling at this point or what. If your ASUS ZenPad 10 Z300M tablet is not rootable, then you are the first one to report such a device on XDA. You still keep saying you can't readback with SPFT "5.132". I hate to sound pedantic, but I think it's better if I make my reply in list form.
There is no 5.132. The recommended version is 5.1532.
SP Flash Tool version 5.1532 does not have the "ShowByScatter" feature at all, as I've told you at least twice.
You can read back any part of the flash ROM by specifying the range manually in 5.1532 or other versions.
You can read back by partitions specified in the scatter file by enabling "ShowByScatter" with SPFT 5.1548 or higher only.
You can flash to this device by using SPFT 5.1532 only (and a couple of older versions).
As for the guide not being clear
I did not write that guide. That is @justshaun's post. I only wrote one section of it and made some corrections to other parts.
Yes, you might encounter some stumbling blocks when blindly following the steps without knowing why you are doing them. But this is a good thing, to be honest. Because if you don't understand even a little bit about what you're doing, and are not able to solve those types of problems, then you have not crossed the pretty low bar for safely modifying your device. In that case, I think you're better off not bothering with this whole recovery/root thing. It's for your device's safety.
All of the problems that you're having have probably been discussed in one thread or the other.
As for the bootloader unlocker
I have never used the unlock tool.
It does not work sometimes, maybe even most of the time.
ASUS has removed the link to it from their download page
Take it up with ASUS if you want to make it work.
Just want to mention for anyone else struggling with this issue, what fixed it for me:
I found the reboot would only happen when wifi was turned on, and even more weird, it would only happen when connected to specific wifi networks. After doing a factory reset I was able to set it up again by tethering to the wifi on my phone. I then found that I actually was able to connect to the problematic wifi network but only by setting a static IP! This has completely resolved the issue for me.

I have downloaded everything in the OP again and will attempt to get twrp on tablet again. I did notice one item that was causing my problem that you could call a newbie f/u... I'm using a new browser that has adblock builtin & on by default and it was causing the "loop" when trying to download the recommended SP Flash tools. I got the ones from the link downloaded and they have more internal components like the newer SP Flash Tool versions....... My bad.
Will go through the steps again hopefully later today, my apologies man.

Restore BNTV460 Stock Firmware help

I flashed the extracted aiomobilestuff.com BNTV460-v1.0.0_20180724.zip using spflash tool. However, the tablet now barely runs. The barnes and noble settings and apps crash if I try log in. The startup wizard crashes the first time, and I sometimes get a red border around every time I tap something.
Is there a way to fix this tablet or is it a dud now?
Ive tried factory reset, clear cache, nothing works. Interestingly, if I go to the normal settings app, nothing appears under serial number, etc. So it's no longer being able to read some of the hardware I'm guessing.

I've been experimenting with my own since I bricked mine as well, and I was able to bring mine to full functionality. Here are a few things I learned. The scatter file in the firmware on the internet is messed up. They made the scatter file incorrectly, so as a result, whenever you flash the device with it you have to completely flash it. Their firmware has also been tampered with and probably doesn't have a serial number in it. So, I bet you wiped all of your partitions, including ones that potentially had the serial number. I dunno how to fix it, maybe see if you can get a new one from B&N for no extra cost. Unless you have a full sp flash tool backup of the device before you bricked it, I'm unsure of what to do for you. I was able to help myself because I only messed up system.img, which I took a backup of before modifying it, and I used the wwr_mtk + sp flash tool guide to make a proper scatter file so I could flash my system.img using download in sp flash tool. (Also sorry that it's been a few months since I've responded, I just thought up how I could fix my own device last night and successfully did it). Also, here is my scatter file.

So here is the only solution I can think of (if you still have this device).
Download the latest boot.img and system.img (available here https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=4349826312261752630 ) and use the scatter file to flash them to the device (download mode and check system and boot and select both of the files). Let me know if you encounter any errors if you try this. NOTE: This rom is only for the Oreo version of this device, BNTV460, so for anybody with the BNTV450/Marshmallow device, your device likely will get messed up by this.

I'm getting an error, "S_DL_GET_DRAM_SETTING_FAIL - Obtain DRAM Failed" when trying to flash any firmware files. I've tried a few different versions of SP Flasher and drivers... any input on that? How did you power on your device for flashing? My battery is completely dead and I'm plugging it in after hitting Download of SP Flasher... it recognizes the device and begins flashing, but fails.

Questions I have for you that may influence how you should handle this:
- Is the tablet you are on the Marshmallow Nook Tablet 7 (BNTV450) or the Oreo Nook Tablet 7" (BNTV460)? Ignore the rest of my questions and my advice if it is the Marshmallow BNTV450 one.
- Did you flash the stock rom that the original author of this thread flashed (the shady one that messed his device up) before trying this?
- Are you able to boot into any kind of OS? If so, let it charge and then go into that OS and finish charging before doing anything
That error sounds like a result of the shady stock firmware, since it has a different scatter file. Flashing that rom makes people lose some specific device identifiers that make it so the original firmware from B&N won't work anymore as I have seen so far.
Here is my advice if you have the Oreo Nook Tablet 7": Charge the BNTV460 as much as you can, and follow this guide to make a backup of the exact firmware on that Nook Tablet 7" https://forum.hovatek.com/thread-21970.html If the readback step gives you that same dram setting error, your device is likely a brick if it cannot boot into any OS, and you should try to exhaust any type of warranty or replacement plan with B&N that you have to get a replacement, otherwise you can continue with the rest of the guide to make a proper scatter file and rom backup for your device. I will try to guide you to my best of my ability, but this is a really confusing area due to all of the things that can go wrong and all of the risks of bricking the device permanently.

Thanks for the quick response. It is the BNTV450/Marshmallow, which may be part of the problem. I do get the same error on the readback. It may be time to just retire the thing and grab a new ereader, I got a few years out of it and it was cheap.
EDIT: To respond to your question, I did use the shady ROM above. So note to others: don't do that...

Yeah, your device may be completely bricked. The Nook Tablet 7's are confusing due to the two of them being only slightly different, but different enough for disaster to happen.

****UPDATE*****
With the newly uploaded rom all you have to do is download use sp flash to install .
May still have to run " fastboot --disable-verity --disable-verification flash vbmeta vbmeta.img " command in fastboot mode.
Step 1: Downloads
Download Magisk manager and update.
Download ADB & FASTBOOT.
Below I'll have a link for windows. for linux run command "sudo apt install adb".
Dwnload boot.img and vbmeta.img.
Download SP Flash Tools and wwrMTK <---Will make this much faster XD.
I have all of these available
here--> https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1lREGI_nd7kghuR6vCDjhiOZvbWrpJfBo?usp=sharing <--here.
Step 2:
Install magisk manager and update.
You can either download on the tablet or sideload with adb.
For sideload in windows shift + right click in the platform tools directory and click open power shell here.
Make sure you have MagiskManager-v8.0.0[1].apk saved within this directory.
Then run command "adb install MagiskManager-v8.0.0[1].apk"
For linux Right click the directory in which you have MagiskManager-v8.0.0[1].apk stored and click open terminal here.
Then run command "adb install MagiskManager-v8.0.0[1].apk"
Step 3:
Either make a backup with SP Flash tools or use the boot.img i have provided and copy it to your tablet.
Open magisk on the tablet and click the install then click select image to patch. Locate the boot.img and select it by clicking on it. Watch it finish make sure it fully completes the patch and creates the magisk-patched.img file. Also it may or may not be necessary to patch the recovery.img depending on your system. most likely not.
Step 4:
Flashing the .img files.
Now that you have adb and the images necessary to flash your device power it down and back up holding the volume up key. Once It boots it should load into the bootloader screen click the up key until you have fastboot selected and then click the down key.
Now that you are in fast boot mode you are going to navigate to adb fastboot directory and right click and select open powershell here. again make sure you have all necessary .img files stored in the adb fastboot directory. you should have the patched .img and the vbmeta.img stored in the directory for windows.
Run these commands:
fastboot flashing unlock
fastboot --disable-verity --disable-verification flash vbmeta vbmeta.img
fastboot erase cache
fastboot flash boot magisk_patched.img
fastboot reboot
Wait for it to reboot and then you will be rooted with magisk. enjoy.
I'm always grateful for donations paypal email for donations is on my profile.

I just want to see if the same thing can be done with the 10.1"? If the files are identical great, but I don't want to risk needing to restore my tablet by just trying it blind. Not yet anyway.

Thanks for everyone's work for these tablets. I have both the new 7" and 10.1". Does anyone know how to edit the lk.bin file to remove that ugly Orange State warning after unlocking the bootloader?

That thread has a modified lk.bin file to remove the orange state warning. It has worked great on both of my Gen 2 7 inch tablets

Something must be lost in translation. I'm looking for a patched lk.bin for the 10.1", not the 7".
If anyone is interested, the 7" version is not compatible with the 10.1" version. Luckily SP Flash restored it.

Yes it worked too if anyone has the same question
Help! I followed the instructions in the OP, and everything worked fine. I then used ADB to uninstall some of the preinstalled apps, but I think I uninstalled something I shouldn't have. i'm getting crashes from mutltiple apps (Bluetooth, Contacts, etc).
I've downloaded the stock firmware/full in the linked GDrive share; how can I restore back to this stock firmware? I'm pretty new/noob with this, but I am familiar with Linux commands. (familiar enough to be dangerous...)

I believe that you need to download SP Flash tools if you haven't already. You can then, using the provided scatter file and the downloaded firmware, just reflash the stock firmware to the tablet. You will of course, have to re-root the tablet after it finishes

I’ll look into it sorry I’ve been having some issues lately and haven’t gotten much done on this thread. I was hoping to make an all in one spot for the newer android 10 models. I’ll get the 7 model info and stocks here soon. Is there already a working orange state mod already? If so can you link it and I’ll get into messing with it.
also these Mtk devicesseem to be difficult to get the source for. I’ve contacted mtk multiple times now and still have not gotten a response. I have however been digging through the hidden settings of thesedevices and it seems if they were to release their source they and Walmart may get into a huge amount of trouble as well as lawsuits filed against them. I’m finding these tablets have a sim installed somewhere and are uploading and downloading data via hidden software I’ve disabled the Verizon network locks and the data services in my device I just haven’t been able to really get into it to see what data is being transfer but I have also found some kinda remote camera and sound recorder software also hidden on the device.

What’s your system? Did you get it fixed? I know I screwed up my first go round with the 10.1 Bluetooth and such kept crashing after I removed one of the un used features well supposed to be unused. It was the telephony and the contacts and autodialer that caused my issues. But like I stated before there seems to be some kind of wireless data traffic that’s not supposed to be there hidden software wise and it seems to utilize the cellphone apps that are supposed to be unused. Like the original bloatware remover from one of these threads on the original android 9 versions cannot be used bc there is something utilizing the cellphone data apps.
Anyway if there is anything you need firmware wise let me know I’ll upload whatever I have available.
This is just BS. I agree about the hidden sim. I went through the different log files. This entire system is corrupt. My Google play store was installed by.... You guessed it Google Play. Click on it and I get a retry
My new Samsung phone is also screwed up and the 102.00 for Norton VPN and security was shredded in seconds.
There is NO original boot, no original system. What an I supposed to do? This is the 2nd one. Can't hard reset damn phone, Cricket because I've lost so many. I was able to hard set the Samsung without the SIM card, and it was perfect. Put the SIM card in, and all that freaking bloat comes in.
So I'm no IT person, with compromised systems that's supposed to download ANYTHING and just hope I'm not redirected?? I'm just so suck and Tues off this. I just need to search, make phone calls. I don't even do any social media any longer! Please, tell me what I can trust anymore??? And I'm just out another round it up to 500.00 and I'm in disability. I'm so disheartened and hopeless
I used this method to root the new tablet I just picked up, and now whenever I launch any app it freezes my tablet and forces a fast reboot of the tablet, I believe I am on android 10, but I can't confirm as I can't even open settings
okay, so I tried to completely flash the stock images you provided in the other thread, got everything working again, without root, then flashed the patched images you had and got stuck in a screen that just said onn with nothing else happening
edit: I have adb access to the device when it's plugged in so I'm not sure what is happening
Alright, I found out my issue, I was flashing the wrong patched boot img on an older firmware instead of updating to latest, I have gotten a working magisk root on the 10.1 tablet.
So as promised I have attached the lk.bin with the no orange state modification it does still seem to hang for 5 seconds but the ugly message is no longer visible.
this is for the 100003562 10.1 inch model but should work with the newer 10.1 inch models with the MT8768WA chipset that come with android 10.
Installation Instructions:
1. Download lknoorange.bin attached to post.
2. Open either powershell (Windows) or Terminal (linux) where you have the file saved.
3. Put device in fastboot mode by powering on and holding the volume up button and selecting fastboot with volume down button.
4. Use command:
"fastboot flash lk lknoorange.bin"
5. Use command:
"fastboot reboot"
Now you should no longer see the ugly message on boot.
Always love getting donations thanks again all and I wish you the happiest of holidays.

I guess i'm kinda lost here at what you may be stating and or asking? what device are you needing help with? I do not have a samsung so i honestly can not be of much help other then to point you in the right direction.
If you need help with a stock image for the 100003562 i have one here.

(HELP NEEDED) Onn 8" gen 2, 100011885 no boot

So I didn't happen to back up my scatter or boot.img files when I used fastboot to try and flash the TWRP for the onn 10 inch, I was assuming it would work, but now I'm stuck with no recovery, no fastboot, no system, won't boot up when you hold the power button.
The only method of recovery I have is through MTK preloader and spflash, but I don't have the correct factory images or scatter file required to reflash stock. I've been looking everywhere online and can't find the right recovery files or any guides on how to recover from this.
Any help/files/advice would be greatly appreciated!!
Two things, I got access to my old account after a password reset
and, I got my tab back up and running, as well as root & xposed + gravitybox
I'm working on a guide as we speak.
Also, I will be dumping my firmware and adding the 10001885 to the list of stock image dumps on the main onn thread.
Hope this helps if still needing it, scatter file for the 100011885 mt8168 , good luck not responsible for anything lol i still cant get mine to work, anklosburner

Hey, i've had that same issue but have since fixed it by flashing the rom to the 100011886. I used some of the posts here to flash both vbmeta.img and boot.img to gain root, with success https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/17LtLtjKg4JJU9EJdIXPsyNjen0H-ilMX?usp=sharing . i eventually went too far and currupted my rom and had a hard time finding the stock ROM. I found the stock ROM to the 100011886 and flashed that to fix the problem, now i run that as my system and it boots up just fine. https://www.mediafire.com/file/107jp6gwbiwq87q/MT8168_ONN_Gen2_100011886.zip/file
fastboot erase super
fastboot flash super super.img
Would you happen to have the preloader bin file for the MT8168? After digging around, you have helped me get closer to bringing my hard brick back to life.

I don't, but this thread may help:
[STOCK] Stock Backups/Images/OTAs
Since these tablets don't have an external online resource for downloading system updates, only a sketchy OTA app (com.adups.fota) I'm collecting a library of OTAs, as well as boot/recovery/system images. I have access to a 10.1 with keyboard...
forum.xda-developers.com
Any rom you come across has to be extracted in order to get any necessary files from it. The thread mentions using 7zip but I've personally had better results extracting using ZArchiver. Also, a workaround I've found very useful when dealing with extraction issues, is removing the extension from the file. If all else fails, you may need to erase the super partition and reflash THAT

Thanks for the response. I'm at the end of that thread currently trying to see what I can find to fix my issue. Aside from buying another one from Walmart and trying to see if I can pull everything from a vanilla tablet, I'm not sure if I'll ever find the exact files.

I wish I would have waited until I read this today instead of further messing with it yesterday. It looks like everything you have is what I need, but now I am battling trying to get the COM port to stay active when the device is plugged in. I'll tinker with it and see if I can get back to the state I had it in yesterday where it was staying connected.

Would you happen to know/remember all the settings you checked in SP Flash Tool (I assume you used that) when you flashed things to get it working? It seems that my PC is able to communicate with the device again, but I'm unsure of how to proceed next.
Have you installed all of the adb & mtk drivers? If so, you should be able to use adb to reboot into the boot loader then use fast boot to flash the super file

It's hard bricked at the moment unfortunately, so there's no appearance of life to it. Attached picture is the error I get. https://www.gizmoadvices.com/list-sp-flash-tool-error-codes-solution-fix/ appears show info about the error, but it's not something I know how to fix yet.
The only way I can get the tablet to make moves in device manager (which I assume is a sign that the PC can at least partially recognize/see the device) is to click on Download in SPFT, connect tablet to PC via USB cord, and then hold down power button, which led to the error. Errors in SPFT I've received so far are 0xC0060001 and 0xC0060003.
When the tablet is active in the device manager, I assume that the device is in a powered state. However, when the device is grayed out, I assume it's in a powered off state (see other pic). I've yet to find away to actually flash anything to it.
