Need some help with this one - Samsung Galaxy Tab S5e Questions & Answers

So I got the AT&T Variant of this tablet, and it works fine. But recently I decided to implement Call & Text on Other Devices to receive and answer texts from my Note 10+. I got the Call & Text feature installed and activated on both devices, but that's where the fun starts.
I disabled anything that has to do with AT&T (Number Sync, etc) but it seems the dialer is hard-wired to that numbersync app and won't let me change the default. Now when I launch the app, it crashes right away. Tried disabling it and installing Samsung Phone from apkmirror, but the install always fails, as does Samsung Messages.
So is there a way to install these two things to get them working, or has AT&T basically screwed this tablet over in favor of their services?

Samsung site says this function is note currently available on ATT and Verizon phones. Kinda angry

That is true. I have the Verizon LTE variant and I can't call or text from my Tab S5e unless I use Verizon's Messages+ app.

Make calls with Sprint Galaxy Tab

The dialer is missing on the sprint version but I managed to get to it..kinda. I installed LauncherPro and HomeSmack. The dialer shows up but when I tap it, it opens Network Manager and gives the error "cannot make calls with the galaxy tab". Hopefully this is a clue that someone more experienced can use. Also there are some fishy apk's I found. If anyone wants a list, or actual apk files please message me.

How are you going to make calls (if at all you somehow get that working) when you don't have a voice calling plan attached to it? The ESN is in the database as a data only device, so i see no point. This is a CDMA Tab.
It's not like the GSM models where you swap the SIM with one from a phone that has a voice/data plan attached to it.
It's assigned a phone number, so it is voice capable. This IS possible to do... but I don't want to try anything crazy until we get Sprint's stock firmware .tar in case I need to wipe completely from a screw-up.
Does anyone know when this will be released? I need it bad!
even to get it to work via Google voice would be nice.
I have hopes that there is a way to make it work. It seems the phone stuff is there, just disabled.
Looks like a Odin package is being made for the Sprint Tab
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9752852&postcount=16
Additionally, you CAN make emergency calls from the Sprint tab. I've done it
So the capability is there.
I'm also dying to make calls on the sprint tab...really hope someone can help us out.......

The point is not whether it is assigned a phone number (it's a CDMA device so it IS assigned an MDN on the network) or not but whether the account (in this case the Tab) can make and receive phone calls like under a normal plan.
Bump for the cause. I activated my Sprint Galaxy Tab in my country without problem but I still see the roaming icon and the legend "International". Is there a piece of sotware that informs the tablet that Im not using it in a Sprint network or inside EU?
Sorry but my knowledge of cellular networks is null.
i receive calls on spring galaxy tab
i got incoming calls on my sprint galaxy tab but i i dial a call the message comes up i did alot of changes to it trying to get it all working but i didnt realize that the incoming was working since i was only trying to make calls on it and last night someone called me and i was able to talk on it.
only incoming though
so now we know its for sure
with this its obvious that its possible to get outgoing since everything is all there i have my line on cricket and web works for a bit but it reverts back
i was messing with files of a galaxy s but they wont work anyone know how to
be able to install them on the tab i just copied them to my filesystem and they wont install

How do you indicate your desire to place an emergency call? There's no dialer to even punch "911" into...
My clueless-noob side is surely showing, but this is something I'm very interested in, please forgive what's probably a silly question.
Sprint Galaxy Tab and GrooVe IP
I installed grooVe IP last night on my 7" Sprint Galaxy Tab. It was a little bit of a hassle because first you have to set up Google Voice. Then you need to download the Google Voice app and go through the setup. I rebooted my phone and was then able to get more setting adjustments on Google voice website on my desktop to set up my tablet. It seems that I can now make calls from my Tablet. I tried a few different numbers. 2 things I can't get to work is the bluetooth functionality (always comes out through tablet speakers even though "Bluetooth" is the only option selected) and being able to receive calls. I was reading on Google that they are currently working with Sprint to roll out selective call forwarding but that my number is not allowed at this time. Strange that it will let me make a call but not receive one. Anyone have a work around for this. I tried to set up my voicemail but I could never dial into my tablet to enter the activation code provided by Google. If I could get it to receive calls I would be ecstatic. I love being able to do a search on google for a business and when it shows the phone number, be able to call that person by touching the number and not having to do it from my regular phone. Especially when driving.

[Q] N4 on AT&T - possible to get visual voicemail?

Coming from an iPhone on AT&T, I'm looking for any solutions for visual voicemail on the N4. Does it only work on phones officially supported/sold by AT&T? Any solutions without redirecting my voicemail to another provider such as Google Voice?
I don't see at&t's visual voicemail app in the play store but you might be able to side load it just fine (if your on the LTE data plan that includes visual voicemail). Or, just go with Google voice. Why don't you want to use that? I've used it on many phones for a few years now and it works just fine. Never had an issue with it.
There's also apps like youmail, etc. but behave like Google voice AFAIK

+1 on the G Voice. I was in the same boat as you (iPhone 4 on AT&T) and switched to G Voice with the Nexus. Haven't looked back. Also, if you used Voice on iOS it's completely different and integrated tighter on Android.
Ah, there's an AT&T Visual Voicemail app... It didn't occur to me to check the play store first. And there's also an AT&T Messages app too that cannot be used at the same time as the AT&T VVM app. I'm not sure what plan exactly I'm on, when I called them I told them to provision my SIM for 4G/LTE (APN: phone) even though I know the N4 is not an LTE phone, but wanted to make sure LTE is available if I move the SIM to a different phone.
Based on the reviews I'm not sure I want to mess with either of these 2 apps
I'll try and live without VVM for a while and then consider using GV if I must have it.
Just use GVoice. The att VVM app doesn't work well on non-specifically supported devices. I have a vivid right now and even though the vivid is a supported device, the custom ROM I'm running doesn't like the VVM app. GVoice works great though and has so many options like setting different greetings for different groups/people.

Are you prepaid? I've heard, at least from a friend on T-Mobile Monthly4G prepaid plans that they're unable to use the conditional call forwarding settings. The network denies the change.
Can somebody point me on a good tutorial for GVoice? Can get it to work... AT&T regular iPhone plan before..

I ran into this. I had to go into google voice on the phone and disable it,?. Then the number you must call using your phone will go through. Sorry, can't remember exactly, but you must inter that mmi number before you have it set up on your phone...

Has anyone figured out a way to side load a working AT&T VVM .apk? Yes, I know gvoice is an option but I prefer to try to keep all vm's under AT&T.

I decided that I can live without VVM, I just do it the old school long press 1 now... At some point I think I will port my mobile number to GV and get it over with, which will also get me ready for the rumored Google cell service late next year.
The N4 is not officially supported by the AT&T VVM app, but it may or may not work. You'd have to find a recent apk from someone and just install it on your N4. Then you have to call AT&T as they have to enable the VVM feature for you. If you already put the correct N4 IEMI on your account they will probably not do it, they will say your unknown device is not supported. If they don't pay attention, they might enable the feature anyway. If you go through the pain, let us know what you found out.

Good news is that I have not added the N4's IMEI on the account, it still has my GS3 listed. I will give AT&T a call and have them add my IMEI and the VVM feature to my account and if all goes well, they will get it done. I saw a .apk floating around here a few months ago, not sure if that is still the current package or not but I'll report back and let you know of my experience.
I'd look for a very recent apk, the LG Optimus G is a supported device for VVM so chances are it may also work on the N4.

Upload the apk to the phone and then install the apk on the device. Once installed, reboot device. Once rebooted, open the ATT voicemail app so it can call home and configure itself. I'm using an international version of the motorola razr hd and ATT VVM app works just fine for me.
Just note, you won't be able to get the apk from google play. you'll need to search the interwebz for the apk.
One thing to note, if you're not using an AT&T branded phone, you do have to use workarounds for installing ATT VVM app.

Contact name doesn't show up when they call - using Straight Talk AT&T on Verizon N3

Contact name doesn't show up when they call - using Straight Talk AT&T on Verizon N3
Hello,
I am having some problems with my contacts after switching to a verizon note3 from an AT&T note 2. I had no issues on my prior phones (t-mobile HTC One, AT&T s3, etc) and all of my phones get their contacts imported automatically from my google account.
For some reason, when my friend calls, their number shows up as "+xxx-xxx-xxxx" with the plus sign in the front. Unless I go in and change all of my contacts to have that + sign in the front, my contact's name doesn't show up.
I also had trouble calling them back by pressing the missed call because of the plus sign (I get a voice message saying something like "the international call you are attempting to place is not possible". This has been fixed by an app called "prefixer" which can take out the + sign everytime I make any calls.
Other than changing all of my contact phone numbers, is there any way I can make my default contact app ignore the +?
International Prefix
I have the exact same issue. With a Verizon SIM it works just fine, but with a GSM SIM the calling number appears (incorrectly) like +212-555-1212 (rather than simply 212-555-1212, or even, correctly, +1212-555-1212)
Can this be fixed in the ROM or kernel, or better yet, by the user?
Thanks

SMS on LTE Version

I don't know if this has been common knowledge or not, but it is possible to send/receive sms on the tablet if you have a fully operational line on your sim card. Data only won't work. But, if you take the sim from your phone and put it in, you can indeed text.
Hangouts doesn't work, I'm assuming because they restrict the sms feature from tablet-specific versions. But, I did find an app that happily sends/receives texts.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tigaomobile.messenger&hl=en
MMS isn't working for me, I don't know if it's a limitation of the app or my apn not being proper(I did set it to have the correct mmsc info).
Maybe someone can get a hangouts app from a phone and sideload it onto their tablet to test that out.
I'm able to send and receive SMS on my LTE table, I use the built in messages app.
^Must be a difference in the US and EU variations then, because there is no option for SMS in the US version that I could find.
Hangouts?
I use 8sms on consumer cellular sim, data&txt in Colorado. Uses either tmo or att
Textra works great as well.
Until I was able to disable at&t all access (pre loaded bloatware on my U.S. model ) it was the SMS app even on the consumer cellular Sim.

I let the att app update. Then in app properties it was able to disable like normal apps!

Wear24: Able to use as standalone LTE device (on Verizon) without Message+?

Hi all, like many, I was able to get a good deal on the Wear24. I've searched and read through many of the posts here, but have not found an answer to my question:
Has anyone successfully enabled the Wear24 to use as a standalone device (added to their Verizon data plan, able to get its own data and make phone calls) and NOT use Message+ for messaging?
I see plenty of posts about being able to use Android Messages instead, but they involve not linking to your Verizon plan/phone number (bypassing that part of setup, then disabling Message+). I'd like to be able to have my Wear24 act as a standalone device on Verizon (for data, primarily, but also calls), but not be limited to Message+ for messaging (or have to use any other bloatware).
Thanks in advance!
From what I have read you need to use Message+ to do the number sync between the phone and the watch.
In all honesty I used to use Android messenger but I've switched over to message+ long before I got this watch. They've improved it so much I actually prefer it over any messenger out there. Maybe give it another try, it may just solve your problem? Just a thought

I was able to switch to use Android Messages and keep LTE and number sync. Here's how I did it...
1. Activate watch on Verizon and go through the steps to step up calling and messaging with Messages+. This is important as it creates the association between the watch's mobile number and your phone's mobile number for number sync.
2. Let watch update to Android 2.0 if it hasn't done so already
3. Do a factory reset on the watch
4. On reboot, readd watch to Android Wear app on your phone but DO NOT activate calling, instead click SKIP.
5. Promptly go to play store on your watch and download Android Messages and let it install
6. Go to settings/apps/system apps on the watch and disable both Messages+ and wear24.
That should do the trick! I've tested it by turning the host phone off, switching watch to LTE only connection and was able to send and receive texts from Android Messages. These texts had my phone's mobile # on them as proof that number sync still works. After that I also signed into Play Music on the watch and was able to stream music without issue.
There are a few issues that I haven't worked out yet but are definitely not deal breakers.
1. I can no longer make calls from the watch in LTE only mode. Honestly, the speaker on this watch is junk so I don't mind.. When connected via Bluetooth it still works also.
2. Can't initiate texts via Google Assistant. Again, not a deal breaker at all. You can still reply either directly from notification or the Android Messages app itself.
I believe both of these shortcomings could be corrected if someone could figure out how to change the default messaging and calling apps in Android Wear to point elsewhere than Messages+.
After making these changes I'm pretty happy with my $50 investment! Hopefully these changes will help you guys as well. If someone were to figure out nfc and Android Pay I'd never look at my Gear S2 again

You do have to pay an additional $5 per month, and a $30 activation fee to get stand alone lte through vzw. You also get another line in your account for it with its own number. I just did this, but it doesn't seem to be working correctly because I use yaata not android messenger or messages+.
