Problem recording video at any resolution at 60 fps - OnePlus 8 Pro Questions & Answers

Hi everyone, I have a problem and I would like to share it with you because I think it is a very serious software or design flaw and it may be that this could happen to some of you.
This is the second device with the problem, I returned the first one to Amazon and I have unsealed this right now
I have realized that recording video at any resolution, when I zoom at maximum, I focus on an object and when I view the video the object is displaced, I don't know if you understand me.
It is as if the camera that shows me the image on the screen is not the same as the one that records the video, it is the displaced objects and I am testing it with the second oneplus that Amazon has sent me and the same thing happens to both, so I think this can happen to more devices
When it is most noticeable is with the maximum zoom but if you look it always happens but obviously it is clearer with zoom
This happens to me in any resolution at 60fps
In this Youtube link I show the problem, the video is in 4k resolution 60fps but it happens in any resolution 60fps
In the video you can see perfectly how the white letters are up during the recording and when I play the video they are seen in the center and that is not normal. The other day I recorded a helicopter flying and when I played the video the helicopter was not seen
The phone is just unsealed and is the second in 1 month and a half.
It is European version
I would really appreciate if anyone can test what I have commented to see if I am not the only one.
Thanks in advance and sorry for my English

@vrg3030
When you zoom you're changing lenses. There is a handoff which occurs..leave the camera on one of the stock zoom states there are 3 of them.
They should all work afaik, perhaps not the most zoomed out one, but the other two should be fine..

Thank you for your answer but I do not understand that in a device of € 1000 I cannot use the maximum zoom in any resolution at 60fps and the worst thing is that in other forums they tell me that this problem does not happen to them ....
You also have that problem?
for me this is not normal in such an expensive phone

I haven't noticed it personally as I don't tend to zoom so much. It's best to try to keep our optical rather than the digital zoom.

I personally think that if a device has certain characteristics, they should work correctly, it's like buying a car with 6 gears and only being able to use 5 because the sixth doesn't work well.
I like the device a lot but I can't live having paid more than € 1000 knowing that it has this fault because for me it is a fault
I have tried other devices with 4 cameras and that does not happen to them, I have tried to record a car from 50 meters away with the zoom to maximum and I have not been able, you can see the video in the Youtube link that I have put

I'll take a look pal. Is only compare a OnePlus 8 pro with a OnePlus 8 pro though mate.
Let's see if we can set up a test whereby we can isolate it indeed it is an issue or not.
Has to be specific though and replicatable.

I have already spoken with Amazon and they have told me that they are going to check it because it may be that there is a defective batch. I will inform about how this strange story is developing.
It is really something very strange and doing more tests I have verified that it is not only with the maximum zoom, if I press the button zoom X3 or any zoom level it also happens.
I lean out of my window and record a car at less than 50 meters and while I make the recording I can see it on the screen but when I see the video the car does not appear, it is as if the lens that shows me the image on the screen while I am recording it is not the same lens that records the video.
very strange Thank you for answering

No worries man.
An yea that's weird.
Are you turning on HDR by any chance when recording, I've noticed that stabilization is lost when that's on.

It does not matter if I use HDR or not, I record an object at the top of the screen with the maximum zoom with the object in front of me and when I see the video the object is in the center of the screen and when it is something that is further away and moving is not even seen on the video after recording it

Ah ye that's not right, I think the alignment of the lens, it has to be..
I can confirm I do not have this said issue. Definitely not and Amazon or OnePlus must take responsibility for that, it's a factory defect, perhaps their standard testing process doesn't cover zooming in detail.
So you say that if you capture something onscreen whilst zooming in and is present in the preview, it will not be present in the playback?
If so then I would query the lens, this isn't something a software fix could change. In no way.

Exactly, what appears while you are recording then does not appear in the video. It is very curious and seems to be related to what you have said about the alignment of the lenses.
It is the second oneplus 8 pro that Amazon sends me and in both there is the same problem that is why they have told me that they will notify it in case there is an error in a series of devices
Another curious fact is that with the new Gcam which uses 3 lenses of the oneplus 8 pro this problem does not occur and the truth is that it gives good results

? Nah the gcam only uses a small percentage of the zoom capabilities.
I'd say that's why. Zoom and take a pic on both, you'll see what I mean

You are right, Gcam has less zoom than the stock camera but as I said before, the problem occurs at any zoom level although it is obviously more visible as the zoom increases.
That is what makes me think that it may be a software problem because I have done a test by putting the Gcam and the stock camera at the same zoom level more or less and with the Gcam I get the image correctly and with the stock the problem occurs
Another thing that makes me think that it is a software problem is that it only occurs in any resolution using 60fps, if I use 30fps it does not happen so it cannot be a design problem or that the lenses are incorrectly positioned

hi, there! new to the forum as i got my op8pro couple of weeks ago. i can confirm the issue, it is strange that only appears at 60fps, and only when zoom is used. in my case at least looks like the video is being cropped...like u said, at rhe time of the recording i can see the "whole picture' on the screen, but then when u play the video it looks to me as it was being cropped from the original video and only showed a portion of the "whole picture". i think it's probably smth to do with how the software is processing the video when zoom is used at 60fps.. don't thing is hardware or has something to do with the positioning of the lenses..

basicly smth like that

Or my god I thought that I was the only one to whom this happens, if you look at YouTube videos you can see perfectly what I am talking about.
Anyway, it happens to me in any resolution at 60fps and using any zoom but obviously it is appreciated more the more zoom I apply. One day I recorded a helicopter with the zoom to the maximum and when I wanted to see the video it did not appear on the screen during the entire recording ,the helicopter was advancing which means that if what I am recording is in motion the problem is accentuated.
And from what I have been able to see this only happens to some devices because with several people with whom I have spoken in different forums they comment that it does not happen to them or at least they say that

Shutter speed and autofocus

Hi
I have a g2 and I have problems with autofocus recording video and shutter speed
I would like to know these two features in Xperia z compact Thanks and sorry for my English
Enviado desde mi Nexus 7 mediante Tapatalk
What would you like to know?
I don't see a question in your post. I don't believe there are any known issues with the shutter speed or AF during video, if that's what you're asking.
Actually in videos there is a small problem. When changing environments or light conditions the focus is lost for a second and you have to move the phone a little so it can focus again. But for everyday use (i mean shooting in good light conditions during the day) its perfect ! Pictures are also great, you can check the z1c photography thread. There are shots from CM also.

Camera 2.0 Available

It looks like Camera 2.0 is starting to roll out in the What's New app. I had to forcibly refresh mine from the menu to get it to show up. It's now the same UI that we saw in the IFA videos.
Initial impressions:
- It's noticeably faster to load up on a cold boot
- It's loads even faster after the first load
- With the phone off, I can press the camera shutter button and load the app in 1 second
- The UI is more responsive now
- Quality seems a tad bit better in low light but I'll have to take more photos to confirm

I've got it too, so far its fast than before, nice to have a changed UI, will need to take more snaps to confirm on the quality of pics.
Hmm, I had it show up, download and install. Opened the camera and it was the same. Checked the app and it still says 1.0 what the?
Solutions anyone?
You really have to open whatsnew several time to get this to work, but it suddenly updated and boom, xperiance is alot better than before! Nice update!

Just downloaded and startup time seems blazingly fast compared to the old app and the one on the Z3c. That was from a cold start and using it after I'd been browsing for a few minutes. Will see how it fares across a whole day...
All sorted, love the new UI. My camera launches quick, about half to 1 second from cold and instantly after closing and relaunching.
How do you launch the camera? With button or with icon camera?

Much faster in both cases. With button takes like 1-1.5 seconds. With icon, takes <1 second
Just had a morning walk with my toddler and have been snapping shots as well as checking email, etc.
The camera is much faster - this is the phone I was hoping for!!

That's really odd - how fast is the camera on the second start?
Maybe some other process is slowing the camera down. I disabled the "Photo Analyzer Service" as other XDA users had said it cause camera performance issues on earlier Z phones. The only thing I can suggest is that you try that if you haven't already.
In the second start is faster. Disabling photo analyzer don't fix the problem

I see huge improvement to previous Camera app. Number of details increased and when zooming in pictures does not loose on quality
Yes the new camera app is much faster. But i was hopping for a better manual mode too, like raw support. We'll see, maybe with the marshmallow update.
Like shutter speed control, with it the camera would be totaly perfect.

Where did you buy it from? Can you send it back?
Thanks for the great review! Very helpful.
I really am incredibly tempted by this phone, after hovering with my finger on the checkout button for a couple of days I decided to hold off.
1. The Mi Note 2 due to be announced in 5 days is shaping up very interestingly and may not be too different a price point
2. There's still no TWRP. The standard 5s had a port in a few days but the delay and lack of outrage makes me cautious there's not going to be much active development outside of MIUI and coming from a Redmi Note 2 I wouldn't mind a change.

Not sure if I can send back as there's no manufacturing defect with the phone it's just that camera sucks.
Bought it for camera but noisy and no bokeh is a deal breaker
Samples below.
HDR, auto and stereo mode in that order. I have to say HDR is very slow. If you shake during the photo process you'll have blurred picture. You'll notice auto is noisy!
I am thinking to change g4 (bootloop issue) with one of Xiaomi phones. Was very tempted to buy 5s plus or 5s but will settle with MI5 Pro....

prying open a phone to replace cameras is not fun (at least not for me) and there is a very little guarantee that it would work as firmware needs to be adapted. Better live with it or get phone you love (tested Huawai Honor phones and they have awesome dual cameras) than getting stuck with one you dont like
Ther's an app compatible with this camera? The stock can't Save raw photo..

No not exactly. I wasn't referring to actually talk about Meizu Pro 6 device but as others have been talking about DOF bokeh etc. I just wanted to point people at checking how they've done it on the Pro 6 device. The DOF seems to be so very good that you'd feel you've got a DSLR with f2.0 lens. At least it seems so impressive. I'm not sure about bokeh in such situation. Wehther they've simulated round diaphragm or any other shape. I suppose a completely round one would be the simplest and would also look best and most professional as more expensive pro lenses use diphragms with many more blades than cheap ones (5 or 6). And these become apparent in bokeh situation.

Video quality

Your friends are never going to believe what you did. The only way to prove it to them is with that video you took. Rate this thread to express how videos shot on the Sony Xperia 1 come out. A higher rating indicates that videos are smooth (and not choppy) and that auto-focus works very well, and that the camera adjusts quickly to different lighting conditions while recording.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
My initial experience is it struggles to focus when recording video
And it seriously overheats when recording 4k video for any reasonable length of time.
The 1080p video is class leading: no quibbles there. It's absolutely the best, most stable 1080p footage you can get, with brilliant immersive sound recording.
The 4k,... notsomuch. The image itself is fine - good colours and great DR for 4K but Sony really need to work on their stabilisation. The most recent update has helped but it still struggles some on the horizontal axis, making it not as stable as competitors. The EIS is not working well with the OIS.
So it's a mixed bag and one that is a software update away from fixing. But if you keep it on 1080p then you're in for a treat.

I've had the June update, yes. Some improvement but it still struggles not to jump on the horizontal axis, which it still does. Fine if you're not walking but really distracting if you are.
There is actually an answer to the problem, I've discovered - so long as you're not wedded to the SteadyCam effect: switch stabilisation off entirely.
Yes, really.
The stabilisation toggle seems to apply only to the EIS not the OIS, which is automatic. As it's the EIS not playing well with the OIS that is causing the issue, switching it off actually fixes it.
Your videos no longer "float": it looks like you're walking. But you're walking,... Smoothly.

I believe that OIS is locked in the Cinema Pro app, in that neither EIS or OIS are working. Apparently it's so that you can get better results on a tripod but I do wish they'd add it as an option - not everyone can justify buying a gimbal.
Hey guys,
I shot this video on our beloved Xperia 1.
As the video description says, I'm not a pro. In fact this is my first time shooting travel/cinematic video. Got encouraged because of how Sony advertised this(these) camera(s). This device inspires creativity.
Anyway, great potential in this thing to be out there at the top of smartphone camera game.
Please share your thoughts.

Yes, I used Cinema Pro app for all clips before latest firmware update. Also I used my roommate's Snoppa Atom gimbal, it was struggling a bit to stabilize phone of Sony Xperia1's size. Both previous firmware and gimbal did not help much with stabilization.
Hello, is there anyone that knows how can I record a 1080P video with 120fps? I tried some apps, they only can record with 60fps .
Thanks~
Just been to see Metallica. Took this video on my Xperia 1. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LilEirkBxRM.
The sound quality is awful.
I wish device supported 4K 60fps or CinemaPro app let us shoot 1080p 60/120fps videos. Slowing them to 50% would make "cinematic" video experience far better.

Horrid. The HTC U11 and U12+ easily beat that. This is very disappointing.

What's happening to my camera?

Hi, I don't know how but it is happening something weird with my camera.
Yesterday it was recording a video in 4K at 60fps and I zoomed to focus on a specific object which was on the table.
After having recorded video I watched it again and noticed that in moment of the video when I focused on the object, this object was out of sight, out of the shooting of the video.
To be specific I could only see part of this object. It seems absurd to me because when I took the video, the object was in the center of the screen

Hello, I just read you and I was very surprised, the exact same problem happens to me, when I record a video at 60 FPS in 4k with the zoom at maximum, when viewing the video you do not see what I have recorded.
The worst and most curious thing is that they have already changed my device 2 times and in all of them the same problem occurs, I have only found 2 more people who have the same problem.
The first phone that they changed me was in Amazon which is where I originally bought it, later, since they no longer wanted to change it, I contacted OnePlus directly where they changed the camera module 2 times and since the problem was not solved they gave me another new phone but my surprise is that the same problem keeps happening which leads me to think that it is a general problem in all or a series of devices.
I returned to claim oneplus and they asked me for tests, I sent several videos where the problem is clearly seen and they say that the technicians do not see anything strange which is false.
The problem happens with or without zoom but with zoom it is more evident, I have recorded things in motion such as a helicopter, a boat or cars among other things and then they are not seen in the recording, it is as if the camera that records the video does not is the one that shows the image on the screen when recording the video.
Try it but if the problem you have is the same as mine, it will also happen to you in the photos if you pay attention.
I already opened a thread on xda but was surprised no one seems to have this problem, only one here and one on the official OnePlus forum.
I am thinking of suing OnePlus because it does not want to recognize the failure of a device that in my case cost me € 1000.
I hope we can find a solution but I am afraid that the problem is not software and is a more serious failure.
Make sure the lens are clean and the case if any doesn't interfere. Do not use 3rd party lense protectors.
Try clearing system cache.
Try clearing cam data.
A hard reset is a waste of time but a hard reboot might help.
Hard reboots shouldn't be needed and indicate a potential software/firmware/hardware issue.
Make them resolve this issue or refund your money... or live with the limitations.
I noticed the same thing when the camera is filming at 60fps. I read about it somewhere on xda as well, but I don't remember where.
It's as though the viewfinder is showing the image pre-stabilize, but the capture is stabilized and therefore is at a slightly different angle.
I figured it's really only an issue if i zoom in a lot, since what I'm filming can get completely out of frame. for those kind of shots i switch to 30fps, where the viewfinder shows exactly what is being captured.
I found the issue to be present in both 1080p and 4k 60fps.
Edit:
I didn't notice the post by @vrg3030 when i posted this lol
In this video you can clearly see what my problem is, when I record the letters on the screen then the image is shifted towards the center and when you are recording something in motion it is impossible to capture something like a car for example.
When I record the car centered on the screen then I see a small part of the car even not seen.
For me it is a serious problem sincerely because it limits a lot the possibilities of the camera and it is clear that it is a manufacturing fault.
To be able to record something in motion, you have to do it without focusing on what you want to record and that should not be the case and less on a € 1000 smartphone in my case.
I also have to say that when I updated to Android 11 it happened the opposite, in the video the letters are seen in the center and in Android 11 the letters disappear because they go up ..... incredible but true
So strange looks like it's being cropped.
Could this be a stabilization technique used similar to Google photos and YouTube which matches on screen content and shifts the frames to eliminate shake?
Then the resulting video capture crops the video as the edges which would have been uneven and changing edges?
Just a theory but would make sense.
A test for this would be to make a video in the same way but use a tripod to Trotsky eliminate shake, use a delay.
Obviously I'm not suggesting using a tripod all the time but it may result in the proposed video you see through the viewfinder

In the recording it is seen that I am using a tripod on the OnePlus 8 at the time I perform the test.
Obviously the one with which I record the video is not on a tripod, anyway although the OnePlus 8 worked well with a tripod it cannot be that it has to be used to record videos at 4k 60fps with zoom.
And as I said before, if what I am trying to record is in motion, it would not be seen on the screen as the letters appear on the video.
The letters are visible because they are static and that video is before updating to Android 11, after updating it happens the opposite, the letters disappear from the screen because they go up, it's crazy
I have done the test recording the same with the OnePlus 8 Pro, Samsung note 20 Ultra and Galaxy S20 ultra and the problem is only me, I have sent several videos recording static and moving targets to OnePlus and they say they do not see anything abnormal ..... Seriously?
All the people who see the videos and my friends who test the smartphone clearly see the problem and they do not hahaha anyway ..... I am studying taking legal action

I've just turned grid on, then recorded in 4k 60fps with HDR off and put the center point out the grid on a picture on my wall then recorded, zoomed in, zoomed out then played back, my starting lens was the centre one.
Retried with the most zoomed out lens and repeated.
Image in the center remains in the center throughout.
I'm on OOS 11.0.2.2
If it's switching lenses then I'm not seeing it
Edit: also placed a piece of blu tac over the center of the screen to confirm and it does indeed remain central

Thanks for doing the test, you have reminded me of something talking about the change between lenses, I think the failure may be related to that although I do not understand much about this topic.
If you don't mind by having time, try to record some moving object such as a car for example that is about 150 meters or so and then check if you see it correctly centered
In this video I recorded a ship that passed in front of me with the zoom and the only moment that I could see entirety in the video is when it passed in front of me because obviously at some point the ship passes in front of all the lenses and they capture it entirely but in the moment that has already overtaken me and I begin to follow it, the problem begins.
It is as if the lens that shows me the image on the screen when recording the video is not the same as the one that records the video, it is recorded by one of the 2 next to it
In the video do not use the zoom to the maximum and you can see clearly what I say, with the zoom to the maximum it would not have been seen and I assure you that when I was recording the video the boat was completely visible

That's when it goes past X3 zoom you can see a small stutter.
Will have a go at it, it's midnight here, sorry probs tomorrow.
I'd be almost certain that this doesn't happen on GCam, unless it alters the lenses.
Has anyone found a solution?
