Was any one able to change CSC of Galaxy note 20 ultra? exynos variant OXM multi CSC? - Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra Guides, News, & Discu

So i am trying to change the CSC of my Galaxy note 20 ultra from DTM to DBT or VD2 ... all of them are a part of OXM multi CSC firmware.
Flashed via ODIN using the right CSC file, and the flash was successful however the CSC did not change ... Tried multiple times and ended up with the same outcome.
Samkey still does not support N20 ultra !!! Any tips on how this can be done?
I am running the latest firmware with August patches.
Security Patch Level 2020-08-01
Product code DTM - SM-N986B
PDA N986BXXU1ATH3
CSC N986BOXM1ATH3
Help will be highly appreciated.

I tried and SIM card CSC change is no longer working, i have an INDIAN SIM and once inserted in note 20 ultra, it detects the sim but no longer pushes for a mandatory restart.
Something has changed somewhere, and i have a feeling its got to do something with One UI 2.5 update

Since the release of the S20 series this method no longer works. That's why everyone had to use samkey.org or the free apk by the mysterious Dev but since the August security patch both no longer works.

By the way I try mysterious Dev APK Not working anymore.

I have root on N968B , if anybody has an idea of what will work, I am willing to be guinea pig

I just did the *#272... method. Still working on my N986B/DS even after the Aug security update . I even reverted it back to the original CSC code before I sold it yesterday. Sold it and I have now the N9860 512Gb Hongkong variant. Tested the *#272... code but it's not working on this unit.

Since you're rooted, Just edit the cscfeature.xml file with <CscFeature_VoiceCall_ConfigRecording>RecordingAllowed</CscFeature_VoiceCall_ConfigRecording> and reboot. Voila!

2 things that made the *#272*IMEI# work on my N20U5G Exynos (Aside from having an OXM fw, see attached files)
1. I copy-pasted the IMEI. If I just type in my IMEI, it will not work.
2. I used Samsung's stock Phone app. Having been using an Android One device, I am used to using Android's Phone app. Since it's my go-to phone app in my N20U5G, the code will not work on it.
From my understanding, this code only works on Exynos variants of N20U/5G. Since the DATA feature for my SIM2 was disabled on its original f/w, I changed my CSC code to XTC. Now I can set DATA on both SIM slots.

Well, Just Follow OP Instructions.
My Phone Rooted, I Follow Dr.Ketan Instructions how to root in Exynos section.
Am on latest Stock Rom, All Bloatware Remove with Adb Shell command.
1. I do Not install TWRP.
I extract Patched AP (magisk) and copy Boot.img, then convert Boot to Patched Kernel.tar
And Follow OP Instructions for CSC
"You will also need to edit mps_code.dat inside /efs/imei to reflect the carrier you desire. This needs to be done from a rooted system or from TWRP. After doing this and rebooting, you will be booted into your carriers system."
"Keep in Mind" You Must Copy mps_code.dat from your system to your SDcard then modify it with your desire CSC carrier Code. (For me I use Fx editor) (I have FX file Explorer Plus Root v8.0.1.0). Replace your Modify File to your System.
Reboot....

I think most would prefer a non-root option as some apps may no longer function correctly (i.e bank apps).

Yeah tribalfs,
Same here. No way of changing the CSC of my N9860 .
So for now call recording only with an extra app "BoldBeast" (with some quirks - like lower sound volume on the caller side "compared to our own level", and non-working on Bluetooth calls).
But it's better than nothing (My Note 9 still has call recording "using the Thy SIM Swap/reset trick", but I wanted a new experience "need to move" ).
Cheers,

try force restarting your phone using the volume down and power and see if it takes you the the screen where is says there was an error during an update screen and reflash the firmware again. it should not have taken 2 hours on that part and i can only assume that the app froze on your. with an average computer it should really take more that 5 minutes to completed a firmware flash

Activating Reliance JIO - VoLTE on S7 Edge with non VoLTE firmware

Hello All,
I have S7 edge bought from Singapore. I have downloaded Phone Info app and following are the details :
Product Code : SM-G935FZSUXME
CSC Code : XME
Available CSC Codes : CAM, GLB, MM1, MYM, SIN, SMA, STH, THL, XME, XSP, XTC, XTE, XXV
CSC Country : Malyasia
I have got Reliance JIO card and trying to activate it. Unfortunately I cannot do it since current version of firmware does not support VoLTE. I need to move it to some firmware which supports VoLTE.
Let me know if you need any other information in order to give me suggestion on how can I activate my Reliance Jio card, without rooting the phone. In case rooting the phone is the only option, I would like to know if I would continue to get the updates given by Samsung in future ?
Thank you in advance.
Yes it is possible to do it without rooting you just need to install the CSC Firmware of the country you want to change it to, using ODIN i have mentioned the steps in a previous post its not a big problem and very easy to do.
PS- the India Firmware supports VolTE but you must ask if you can install it over even if the phone doesnt support that version, i think you can but i am not sure

Hi Utkarsh,
Thank you for your response.
Whom should I ask ?
See the thing is i have a solution, and i know the Indian firmware version supports VOLTE, It is about finding the firmware version of the CSC that the phone supports.. What i am not sure is if you can install a CSC fimrware that is not supported in your phone, for that send a PM to mods or people who know. I will list the steps that i did
- You dont need to flash your ROM, you can change your firmware to INS CSC and it works.
1) i used the Phone Info App (Download from the Google Play Store) and saw what CSC Codes were available for me to change to.
2) I downloaded a new firmware from Sam Mobile - You can google for them entering your model no - G-935fD, i am not sure if they are available here in XDA as well
3) My phone supported India CSC (You can see supported CSC's using the Phone Info App so i downloaded the India one it could be different for others.
4) I then downloaded ODIN and used the tuorial in this forum to flash my phone and change the CSC code.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7SK3IMprKVQ this is the link with a step to step guide.
5) After that i factory reset my phone and downloaded the July Update Patch.
My phone after that has been able to make calls and i can see the VOLTE symbol, depending on the firmware it should either automatically come or you might have to manually enable it.
Hope this helps everyone else also. Factory reset usually helps and downloading the latest update too..

Hello,
I did see this post over here in XDA, but my issue is that my phone does not support India CSC. As mentioned in the original post in Phone Info shows me the following available CSC codes (Missing India ) :
Available CSC Codes : CAM, GLB, MM1, MYM, SIN, SMA, STH, THL, XME, XSP, XTC, XTE, XXV
Hence I am not sure if installing Indian firmware through ODIN will help or not. Do you know if that will work ?
I can confirm that is possible to change via Odin without root the CSC even to one which isn't currently available. Yesterday I've changed my CSC from ROM to ORO in order to have access to VoLTE and VoWiFi. I'm not rooted and OTA update it's working. One thing to cosider is that the phone will reset to factory settings.

Ok perfect. I am downloading the Indian version of the firmware. Will keep you updated. Just hope that my VoLTE get's activated !! Keeping my finger's crossed !!
Also, thanks for the quick response.
Depending on network, sometimes it's necessary to send a SMS or call a special number in order to activate VoLTE.

Hey I was successfully able to reset my CSC to INS (India). So thank you very much for that. But I am still not able to see the VoLTE option in my Dialer -> More -> Settings, which most of the people have confirmed that they see it.
I am on Reliance Jio and Idea in Gujarat, India Are you aware what should I dial to enable VoLTE ?
My phone is getting an update, just hope that it helps to get me to see the VoLTE option !!
It should be in Settings/Mobile Networks
If you phone is not rooted you needed Volte option in your device than yeah you needed INS CSC to get option in Indian Carrier.
So simple and best way is to Download your Samsung S7 edge INS firmware from sammobile.com and enjoy.
or you can try custom Rom so try exyfire Rom for S7 edge and than flash INS CSC whose Zip is available to download.
Just download the following zip file and flash it using TWRP. In the Aroma Installer choose Indian CSC option and you are ready to cruise on the Jio craze. No need to flash any FW

Dont worry just back up your phone, download the latest OTA updates and factory reset your phone , it should work seamlessly the Indian CSC does not have any setting to turn it on/off , let us know how it went

I am facing the same issue. I am still not getting VoLTE option. I flashed phone with latest Aug 2016 INS firmware from Sammobile which has July 2016 security patch. Once flash without factory reset, second time flash followed by Factory Reset. Still no luck.
Later check with Samsung and Jio Helplines and they say S7 Edge will not have VoLTE option under setting, it is active by default, but none has an answer as to why VoLTE logo doesn't show up? If i have to make calls, the same gets routed through Jio Join App and if i uninstall the App the calls doesn't go through at all.
Some Expert please help!
I have the Samsung S7 Edge SM-G935FD bought from UAE, (Made in Vietnam) and it has multiple CSC but not for India (INS not present in CSC list).
I was getting 4g but no Volte, so no calls/sms.
I read this entire thread last night. Got the latest India firmware.
Flashed as per post #42 of this thread. Wiped cache,
After rebooting, I got the LTE sign, but still no Volte, checked for latest updates, I was all up-to-date.
Put phone on flight mode and back on.
And voila, Volte!!

Hi everyone,
It is possible to change the CSC and firmware without ODIN or rooting.
1. Download Samsung smart Switch.
2.Click more on the right corner
3.Click Emergency Software Recovery
4.Click Device Intialization
5.Put your Model no
6. You need the local INS serial no ( Check Google with model no- I got one from a face post for SM-G930FD)
7. Click Ok, and follow instructions.
8 After Phone restarts clear cache memory. (Check Google with phone model)
9 After phone restarts Volte appears.
Thank you.

Do you mean the Samsung Smart Switch mobile app? I dont see any option that says 'Emergency Software Recovery'

G950FD from Iran (THR) with pre-installed Persian/Iranian Calendar

I bought an unlocked G950FD which turns out to be CSC THR (part of OXM) so should mean it's from Iran. I have found it generic enough in almost every way to be used internationally (in English) with two noticeable exceptions that i'm trying to solve.
1) there is pre-installed Persian Calendar in the OS which appears after the Gregorian date on the AOS and lock screen. I also noticed this extra date appearing on the Samsung Calendar app under the western date, but i don't use this app at all so can easily ignore. The AOS and lock screen is seen all the time and would displays: "MON, JUNE 5 (KHOR 15)". I looked through every settings on the phone and many forums online, and there is no software way to turn this off.
I thought a potential solution would be to replace this stock ROM with another region since any of the multi-CSC OXM firmwares should be compatible with the phone. So I tried to flash another region using Odin. I tried Singapore (SIN and STH) and completely reset/wiped the phone two separate times. However, despite flashing a large (almost 6GB) file onto the phone it still remains in THR when i looked in settings. I guess I misunderstood the purpose of different firmware regions, I thought i would be changing my phone's existing firmware to another region and get a different set of default apps and localization behavior. But the Persian date is still there on all the same screens.
Am I flashing the rom incorrectly? Is there some setting that i omitted that would give me the desired result of a Singapore OS? Any other ways to change CSC and get rid of unwanted parts of a regional firmware?
2) Another problem is when i receive calls on my local sim card, the phone number shows up without the country code, but if i store my numbers (on Google contacts) in "+<country code> <phone number>" format then the contact is not linked to the incoming call.
Apparently this is fairly common with international phones being used in another market. There is a workaround where i can edit my numbers on google to not have any numerical country codes but instead use the flag drop-down menu on google to indicate country associated with the number. I'm ok with that solution but is there another way? Would flashing a regional firmware that is my location solve this? The region that i intend to use the phone is not part of the OXM multi-CSC list of countries since they only sell the snapdragon variant here.
I would like to find solutions that would avoid root and custom roms, but if that is the only option here, i am not against going down that route.
Thanks a lot in advance.
My eventual solution and what i've learned.
So as i described above, i tried to flash many different versions of G950FD or G950F firware with multi-CSC OXM, but never saw my CSC change from THR. Nothing changed on my phone despite installing large files through odin which was always confusing to me. For the record, i tried BTU (UK), STH (Singapore), and SIN (Singapore) which are all part of the OXM.
I learned from another forum that the sim-card installed matters, so i was just trying different non-middle-east regions by picking UK or Singapore but my actual home region does not support this model/cpu variant. I don't have a sim-card from any OXM regions, only Hong Kong and US ones.
Then i found an old Australian (Optus) sim card from a trip and found a G950F firmware version with CSC OPS on Updato. Not part of CSC OXM but same PDA/Phone version and was told it's safe to flash. When i flashed that firmware with the AU sim card installed, i got the AU OS and all the old regional apps were gone. I got some Australian ones but nothing i can't uninstall. My caller ID problem also seem to be fixed. So i consider the problem fixed.
In all of this, the PDA version numbers were always the same (AQDG), so i'm still a bit unclear as to what the CSC file is specifying and doing.
Am i correct to assume that multi-CSC OXM firmware contained regional apps/settings for all the various regions but without a sim card installed to tell it which one to pick, it kept selecting the factory region of THR? And when i flashed the Optus firmware, did i really need the sim-card installed? Would it have changed the firmware to OPS because it's outside the multi-CSC OXM group?
You live in Hong Kong, right ?
I do too, and have a UAE S8, and Samsung Pay doesn't work.
Does your working around things allow you to use Pay, or you get stuck on the splash screen as well ?

Yes i live in HK, so with the AU Optus Firmware I got a AU version of Samsung Pay with all AU ads and suggested businesses. I can get past the splash and login using my normal Samsung Account, which shouldn't have a region. BUT so far i haven't had any success adding any of my HK credit cards, i assume it's a version compatibility issue. There is no way to pick which regional version of Samsung Pay on the Play Store, so i guess it looks at your phone's origin to determine that part of the app.
I am not that keen to use Samsung Pay, but of course interested to know if it is possible. It says to call the banks to get my credit cards added, so maybe there is still a chance and i will post if i do succeed.
Do you think Samsung Pay is particularly good for HK? Would using Android Pay be comparable here? I'm not that experienced with mobile payment apps in the past. Seems like the membership card storage function will still work on my Samsung Pay so at least i have that and can slim down the wallet a bit.
Hey there buddy,
Finally found a thread that represents my problem also, in my case i have a s8 G950FD that shows the same thing on my lockscreen, by me it shows (KHOR18)!
Is there any way around it, i mean a fix?? I would greatly appreciate any help
Yes that's the Iranian calendar date so the day will increment everyday. Khor is abbrev for the current month.
Yes I have a solution (read my second post in thread) but involves flashing with a sim card and 950f or 950fd firmware of the same region as the sim card. You will need to reset and erase phone data.
If you need help flashing stock firmware there is a long thread on this forum and where I found the answer about how the sim card installed might make difference.
What region/sim are you currently trying to use your s8?

Hey there again,
Thank you very much for the time. I am in SE Europe, to be more precise Republic of Kosovo. My SIM is from Kosovo ( we are considered i believe to be in Europe carrier wise)
I do need help flashing the phone as i have no experience whatsoever i just recently switched from Iphone to Samsung, this being said i must also mention the fact that i would definitely need help. I dont want to mess up the phone i just got it like 2 days ago
Things to consider:
- You can flash both 950F and 950FD firmware on your 950FD.
- You need to find your desired firmware. And that region needs to match your sim card, use Updato or SamMobile but the firmware package is a >3GB file and takes a while to download. Make sure you only look for versions for model 950F or FD.
- You will need to download Odin and Samsung usb drivers to flash the firmware onto your phone. Follow the thread "OFFICIAL STOCK Firmware-update (Odin) thread Samsung GALAXY S8 SM-G950F" for the guide.

If you decided to go the "SIM card CSC" method then follow this step by step:
https://www.sammobile.com/forum/showthread.php?t=37711
But I personally think you should do it through flashing a firmware with odin but properly and pay attention to step 6:

Hope they help you resolve your issues.
Good luck.

Yes, if you are changing country/code of CSC, then the system needs to recalculate the partitions.
And don't forget no short cuts! Every step should be done.
Good luck.
ooo man this things is killing me now the problem i have after i have rooted the phone is that the computer wont recognize my phone in download mode ??????????
Hey Peeps,
Small update on how things are for the time being. I have been following all steps as described with odin. Last night i had issues with my laptop not recognizing my phone in download mode, got rid of this issue by changing laptops. To be honest dont really know what to do again help is appreciated since that date thing is really annoying

Update SM-G935FD Dual Sim to Android 7 ?

I bought this phone from the USA about year and a half and I'm using it in Macedonia, Europe the whole time. It is a dual sim, but I'm not sure which country it is exactly from, Taiwan maybe I guess?
The model is SM-G935FD and the Baseband version shows: G935FXXU1APB6.
I tried updating it manually, but always says you're using the latest software version even though android 7 has came out a long time ago.
Can you tell me:
1. How can I update to android 7 ?
2. Why am I not receiving an update automatically, even though this feature was working when I bought the phone. I was getting regular updates automatically ever since I bought the phone up unti a point when the 7 came out.
3. If I update the firmware through an SD card or whatever method you suggest its best, will I continue receiving regular updates automatically after I install the v7.0 ?
4. How can I check what country is this phone from?
Lots of questions, would be glad if someone can clear these things up for me so I can understand better how this works with samsung and different countries models etc.
Thanks up front!
try smart switch on PC to update it... frend of mine had s7 flat and no update via mobile phone, as soon as I connected it to pc and turned on smart switch update came out...

I wanted to mention that, but I've probably forgot. I did try Smart Switch, but it also said, latest update already installed. Any other ideas?

I'm sorry for my noobish questions, but can you please explain to me how to choose the country of my firmware? Do I need to choose a country which I currently reside in? Or do I need to choose a country for which the phone was made? I just want to use English language, even though I use it in Macedonia, Europe.
Please kindly advise. Thanks!
1. How can I update to android 7 ?
i had the exact same problem as you smart switch n ota both said i was on latest software. All you need to do is goto sammmobile download firmware for your s7 edge model if your phone is non carrier or unlocked then you can download any carrier version. after that download Odin n Samsung drivers n view an odin flashing tutorial on YouTube.
3. If I update the firmware through an SD card or whatever method you suggest its best, will I continue receiving regular updates automatically after I install the v7.0 ?
I am getting all the 7.0 updates.
4. How can I check what country is this phone from?
if i remember correctly Its written on the smartphone box although u don't need to worry about the country all you need to know is the model number.
But to tell the truth there is no performance difference only ui change but still if u want to be on the latest version then use Odin. good luck.
I have flashed my s7 edge about a dozen times n haven't faced any flashing problem just be sure to use original cable n try not to use the computer while the flashing is happening. use odin in adminstrator mode n if possible kill extra background processes like chrome etc (not needed but i still do it just to be safe)

Just checked my phone with PHONE INFO app and there seems to be no CSC code?! All these field are empty:
Original CSC Code: blank
Firmware CSC Code: blank
Active CSC Code: blank
Available CSC Codes: blank
CSC Country: blank
I tried dialing *#1234# and it says:
"USSD code running"
but it shows some kind of error right after:
"connection problem or invalid mmi code"
and does not enter the menu with the CSC code. Tried restarting the phone, switching sim cards and what not.. Nothing worked and I have no clue what my CSC code is now.
My original box is gone and can't really see what country it was made for, but as far as I can remember it didn't say anything on the box. The title of the original amazon.com listing says: Internationally Sourced (Middle East/Africa/Asia) Version G935FD which doesn't say much.
I don't know what to do, I'm a bit scared to flash it with just about any country firmware. There's got to be a way to find more about this phoe CSC?

Download cpuz app from play store. From the app you will find what is your phone chipset. If it is exynos download any 935fd nougat firmware and flash it with Odin.basically 935fd is a unlock version. it's support all csc version and you will also get update how much I know.

I'm looking the rom for Oreo but there is not exist yet, I think...

Help please, I flashed rom and ruined phone

Sorry, but I am a newbie so forgive me if this is stupid!
1 I had a slight battery problem so decided (why??) to flash the rom on my unlocked S7 edge. I used the 'BTU' version.
2 after flashing rom i cannot make or receive voice calls
3 i went into a samsung store they said it was an unlocked SM-G935F and had 'XEU' firmware.
4 they kindly reflashed this for me but it didn't solve the problem
5 I have just tried downloading and reflashing again with the XEU firmware. But I still cannot make or receive calls
one weird thing is that the odd text seems to get through to me
Anyone got any ideas on how to unbrick my phone? Very much appreciated.
Sorry, one extra piece of information. I am on '3'. But if I put an O2 sim in the phone it can make and receive calls. But before my first flashing it worked fine with '3'.
It seems I must have flashed the wrong firmware but have no idea what was on there. The previous owner used a EE sim in it. But it was bought not locked to a network - i think. There was no network branding on the phone.

Hey, can it boot? If yes then flash a custom rom. Some custom roms have multi csc options. Make sure to enable oem unlock before doing anything and flash modded twrp and take full backup

Yes it boots and works ok with an O2 sim but not with my '3' sim. Everything else works fine.
Thanks for your reply. But I don't want to use a custom rom. I want to get my stock rom working.
Does anyone know of a solution to this problem please?
Would it be possible to flash the wrong CSC - for example and American CSC - I am in Europe and on European CSC?
Many thanks
Bob

I'm really not sure why you suggest everyone to install TWRP? People with less knowledge shoudn't know that flashing twrp will break the knox and they won't be able to use secure folder etc. Please put more information with such suggestions.

They're probably already tripping Knox if they're here and seeking help.
I'm replying coz nobody else did and it's merely a suggestion.
Twrp can save a bricked device and it's important to make backups before experimenting. They're not kids ffs

Try flashing XEU rom via odin but use CSC file instead of Home CSC you'll loose your data so don't forget to take a backup via Smart Switch.
one more suggestion flash older firmware (again 8.0) from XEU later connect your device to pc and update to latest via smart switch.

Many thanks that sounds like an interesting idea.
But.............. if I go back to the first version of 8.0 (oreo) will it wreck Knox or anything else to do with security. I want to still be able to use samsung pay for example.
Also, i was told by a samsung shop person that you can't downgrade because there are systems in place to stop you. Though i dont know if he meant from 8 to 7 or from recent 8 to older 8.
I am planning to flash this:

due to fact that its original software was xeu. Is that ok?

you wont break the knox and you don't have to go that much back just download 2 version back from january or february will be enough.
you can't downgrade your bootloader or turn back to android 7.0 that's what they mean. Smart Switch shpuld fix the problem for you.

Forgive me but I am new to this.
So are you saying:
1. Download:
https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-s7-edge/SM-G935F/XEU/download/G935FXXS3ERLF/251612/
That's the last but one from January 19.
Which has: PDA G935FXXS3ERLF
CSC G935FXEU3ERKF
2. Can I just flash that. Or must I remove the bootloader from that package and put in the current bootloader?
And I was presuming I would do all of that with Odin??? Am I wrong. Is there a way of doing it with smartswitch? (I have reset the phone and got rid of all of my information already)
update: tried flashing last rom , that didnt work. the one before wouldn't flash - i notice it has numbers'3' in the various codes rather than 4.
still not solved
Many thanks again

Flash the os via odin (select CSC file not home CSC) Untick re-partition option on odin. (Instructions)
Select all files except home_CSC from odin. BL-CP-AP and CSC
After your device boots, skip settings till you see the home page. Connect your device to pc and launch smartswitch (It could ask you to install smart switch to your device) and update latest firmware over smart switch.

Unforunately, I am getting nowhere. And cannot get my phone to work.
Odin will not let me flash any files which have '3' rather than 4 in them. For example I can flash
BL_G935FXXS4ESC1_CL14843133_QB22373776_REV00_user_low_ship.tar.md5
Because it is FXXS4.... the '4' being the important bit
But I cannot flash:
BL_G935FXXU3ERL3_CL14843133_QB20951136_REV00_user_low_ship.tar.md5
because it is FXXU3.... the '3' being the important bit
This seems to reduce me down to the last firmware for both XEU and BTU neither of which enable me to make calls on '3' network like I have done for months before flashing.
Thanks for all of your kind help

Bob, can you flash latest XEU? We are going to get new security patch update in few weeks. April security patch not yet release. If you can flash latest XEU you can update your device to upcoming update via Smart Switch.
Still bricked: cannot make calls
Thanks for help everyone.
I thought I would give you my conclusions so far in case they are helpful to anyone.
1 My phone was working perfectly for SMS, phone calls and data on the '3' network.
2 Because the battery life didn't seem good I decided to flash it
3 It turns out my phone was initially sold with 'XEU' firmware. But I didn't know that and so I flashed it with 'BTU' firmware - the latest edition.
4 As a result the phone could not make or receive calls on the '3' network. But... it can make and receive calls on the 'O2' network. However, '3' is my contract network and so I want to stay with that. Also, I think the companies are running down 2G transmissions ?? so eventually I may have problems with O2 .
FYI it seems the problem may be that the phone is not sending or receiving certain frequencies as otherwise why would it work ok on O2 but not 3??
**********Tried to resolve by:
5 New sim card
6 Factory reset
7 Clear partition
8 Flashing, again. I tried:
a latest XEU
b latest BTU
c previous XEU
d previous BTU
e previous XEU but with the modem file from EE
f previous XEU but with the modem file from 3
g previous XEU again but then did an over the air update to current XEU
Non of them worked.
*****Conclusion
My phone still will not make or receive calls on the 3 network - it won't register on the network (yes I have tried resetting, selecting network etc etc). It sometimes works with text messages though?? And 4G sometimes works. Otherwise the phone works perfectly, just not for phone calls.
Again on the O2 network all seems to work and I can make and receive calls.
So, to for me, it is bricked in that I can't use it as a phone.
I find it completely inexplicable that I can't get it to work on 3 for calls. There doesn't seem any logic to it.
But thanks everyone for all of your kind help. If anyone has any more suggestions I am willing to try them. Especially if they know how to turn on the relevant frequencies on the phone.
Bit of info: Samsung kindly ran a test to check the reception and transmission of signals. But the test wouldn't even start because it couldn't test the first frequency (apparently it should test lots).
RRoyy
Many thanks again for your reply. You've been very kind with your time.
Yes I can flash the current XEU but it still doesn't work. And I flashed the previous XEU and then did an update using over the air from the phone. But still it doesn't work.
Very best wishes
Bob
Weird
I put an EE sim into my phone (the previous owner had bought it unlocked but used it with an EE contract).
Then I put my '3' sim into my phone. And............ I was able to make one!! call.
After that it stopped working.
That was on XEU where I had downloaded the previous version and let it update over the air.
Does this in any way help diagnose the problem??
Thanks again.

Flash that version and update via smart switch please not ota. I've XEU device and I flashed btu many times to my device never had any problem. Than I update my device to TUR to get updates released bu Turkish operators.
There must be something about installization process that's why I'm asking you to update your device over pc via Smart Switch.
Thank you again RRoyy
I shall do as you suggest.
I think you are saying:
1 Flash previous version of XEU???
2 Then update to current version of XEU using 'smart switch'
3 Should I flash with my '3' sim card in the phone. Or not?
Is that correct?
Also, a small point but I didn't know smartswitch could update firmware. I have never used it. But shall give it a try.
If you could please tell me if the above is correct before I do it I would be most grateful. And thank you again for your time.
Side note: Today I tried an EE sim. It does work, but only on 2G. Not on 3G or auto switch. So, it may be the case that the original flashing of BTU that I did first of all somehow made the phone only 2G? Is that possible?
++Update. Smartswitch spent ages trying to update but failed at the last bit. IT downloaded the software but failed on installation. I have no idea why.
Any suggestions??
Best wishes
Bob
Hello again. So I still haven't had any luck.
I flashed the BTU before the current version. But then the smartswitch wouldn't update it to the current version. It claimed it was already current. It wouldn't update over the air either.
I then flashed the XEU before the current version and I DID manage to get smartswitch to update it to the current version. But '3' sim still not working.
It seems that the problem revolves around certain frequencies that do/don't work on my phone. I suppose it could be a hardware issue though that is unlikely seeing as it happened immediately after I flashed the phone for the first time.
This gives rise to two quesions:
1 Does flashing the firmware get rid of EVERYTHING on the phone. Or does it leave residual bits of information that aren't overwritten?
2 Perhaps the problem is the 'CP' software which seems to be the same for all the options I can flash.
3 If I could flash with firmware from another country with a different CP file perhaps that might push the phone into action.
4 Is there a way to check what frequencies my phone can and cannot receive transmit. I don't mean the specifications. I mean the actual received/transmitted frequencies/bands.
Many thanks again.
Finally, apologies for posting this without logging in but there is a problem with trying to login to the forum on this Chromebook. The space for name and password is not visible. Works ok in windows 10 but not on my chromebook.

1) Yes I believe the efs of the phone is not wiped when flashing software. Everything else is wiped.
2) You could try another country rom. Just make sure the model number is the same. Changing the CP could work as CP is the modem file.

G986U and G986U1 Firmware Links and Flashing Discussion Here

For those who aren't already aware, G986U is the model number of all of the US carrier versions of the S20+. The G986U1 is the model number of the same device, but sold by Samsung SIM unlocked and with no carrier bloatware. Firmware is 100% interchangeable among these models: any U or U1 firmware version can be flashed to any U or U1 device at any time, assuming that you're not trying to downgrade the bootloader. Also, U firmware is identical for the 4 base files (AP, BL, CP, CSC) for each individual build, no matter which carrier it comes from. So if you download 2 different carrier versions of the exact same build, the 4 base files will be identical. Where the firmware differs is in the USERDATA file - that's where the carrier bloatware and customizations reside.
Manual Odin flashing is designed for those who:
- want to manually update to a newer version of U firmware on their U device, either because they don't want to wait for their carrier's OTA or because OTAs aren't working on their device, or a different carrier got a new feature/patch before they did
- want to flash U1 firmware to their U device
- want to convert from U1 firmware to carrier U firmware
- want to convert from one carrier's U firmware (with all apps and bloatware) to a different carrier's U firmware (with all apps and bloatware)
For those who aren't already aware, anyone can now download firmware for almost any Samsung device any time that they want, via SamFirm or Frija. There are threads and info about them here on XDA so I won't waste time explaining - do a search if you're not already familiar with these tools. But they only provide whatever the latest/newest/current version is - nothing older. I pay for a subscription to a site that gets the official releases (usually) before they hit SamFirm/Frija, so that's where my files come from. However, I don't have unlimited bandwidth on the site, and it's also quite time consuming to download the files, zip them up, and upload them to AFH. And, I do threads like this for every single Sx and Note x model - so I won't be uploading every single version. The only full builds that I upload are ones where I get access to a new bootloader and/or Android version early, before they hit SamFirm/Frija.
This is not a "beginner's guide to Odin flashing" -type post/thread, so I won't list basic, step-by-step flashing instructions. My threads are geared towards those who already know what they're doing. If you're new to manually flashing Samsung firmware (or haven't done it in a long time), I recommend you consult one of those "beginner's" guides- there are tons of them here on XDA.
Happy flashing!

Notes:
- DON'T QUOTE THE OP WHEN YOU REPLY, kthx
- I have lots of threads just like this one for other Samsung flagships, if it interests you. For those who have already made use of my previous threads for a different device and are upgrading to an S20, welcome back
- My zips are compressed extra small for space and bandwidth savings. The default Windows extractor can't handle it, so you'll need a 3rd party tool like 7zip, WinRAR, etc
- My naming method for folders on AFH is: build - bootloader - Android version
So "SAT - 1 - 9.0" means the full build number ends in SAT, it's bootloader version 1, and it's Android 9.0. When bootloader and Android versions increment, the first build to have those changes will have its folder notated appropriately.
- HOME CSC file keeps data intact; using the other CSC will wipe data. Flashing USERDATA will also wipe data.
- Since AT&T doesn't allow their firmware to be publicly available (for any of their devices), I'll try to always upload at least one USERDATA per bootloader increment for AT&T (and Cricket, if they get this model). I'll also upload any full builds if AT&T is the only carrier to get that specific build, because you won't be able to find the files anywhere else.
- For identifying USERDATAS, and to know what region/CSC to use in SamFirm/Frija:
AIO = Cricket (not available via SamFirm/Frija)
ATT = AT&T (not available via SamFirm/Frija)
BST = Boost Mobile
CCT = Xfinity Mobile (Comcast)
CHA = Spectrum Mobile (Charter)
SPR = Sprint
TMB = T-Mobile
TMK = Metro PCS
USC = US Cellular
VZW = Verizon (available via SamFirm/Frija, but Manual Entry is required - Auto will not work)
XAA = U1 firmware
- the correct procedure for switching from one carrier's firmware to another is:
1. Flash full U1 firmware package including non HOME CSC
2. Upon boot, insert a SIM of the carrier whose firmware you want
3. Watch for the popup that says "reboot to apply new carrier settings" etc, and do it
4. After that restart completes, reboot back to Download mode and flash the full U firmware package, with the USERDATA file of the carrier whose firmware you want
Notes:
1. I do not have one of these and do not plan to acquire one, so I have no idea if anything can actually be flashed at this moment - I'm just providing the firmware. Like all other models, I'm assuming patched Odin is needed for this, but it wouldn't surprise me if a new version is needed for this specific device. There's only one way to know though, so as soon as someone gets their hands on one and can try this, please let us know
It's been confirmed that Odin 3.14.1 Patched is needed for flashing S20s - https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/patched-odin-3-13-1-t3762572
H/T @clabern
2. I don't know if using the HOME CSC will actually save data. I don't get access to that file straight from the source - I have to decompile the regular CSC, remove the parts that initiate the factory reset, and then re-compile it. Based on the S10 and Note 10, I've done what I think will avoid a factory reset. But the S20 has some new partitions, so we won't know for sure until someone tests it. So if you're willing to be that guinea pig, you're responsible for taking proper steps to avoid an FRP lock, make sure your data is backed up, etc
What are TAW and TAY

That's explained in the OP
Odin fail
Couldn't get odin to work, probably needs an update, tried 3.14.4 and custom. either freezes at setupconnection, or says write failed.

I want to know who is TAW/TAY? like SPR is Sprint, VZW is Verizon...
I didn't find this information on the internet or maybe I am not searching with the right keyword.

Freezing at SetupConnection can be a USB issue. Try again with a different port, different cable, or different PC

TAW/TAY are not carrier CSC codes. As I already stated, the explanation for what TAW/TAY is is given in the OP
Just wanted to let folks know I had to use this patched Odin (3.14.1_3B) in order to flash unlocked (U1) firmware on my Verizon S20+. Pulled the most recent firmware from Sammobile and flashed it successfully.

Yes, if by "stock" you mean "factory unlocked" aka U1.

It has been a while since i looked into flashing. I want to do the same (have an s20+ verizon) I want factory unlocked software . On sam mobile , everything looks like it has a carrier attached even looking up U1 model. Which did you pick?

You want product code "XAA". So it should be this one.

that's what I figured. Any difference going to sam mobile vs the one in the original post here, I assume both are current this early on in the game. Thanks for your help!

The one from Sammobile is more current, there was an update soon after launch. You can compare the build number to that of the software on your phone.
Anybody else flash the VZW userdata and still end up with Tmo branding, bloat, and boot animation?

If you didn't follow the steps in the OP correctly, then yes, you can very possibly end up with the same bloat as before
Ok. So I guess the one place I'm struggling, from a not implemented, but understanding standpoint is that the instructions show how to go to carrier branded versions, but if I just want the U1 firmware, do I need to follow through with the other portion, the second flashing that happens, or can I just run the unbranded one?

Just flash U1 - nothing else
Thank you for this. I was able to flash from Tmobile to the U1 firmware with a virtual machine.
