Help with what to install... - been out of the custom ROM world for a spell - Galaxy Tab 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello again XDA! I'm an old has-been on here that used to be big into flashing custom roms on forgotten devices, but a wife, career, and two kids put me on the "just work dammit" path for some time. I now have a 7 year old that's been using an LG tablet I got duped into buying from US Cellular (don't ask...I don't wanna rant). Dumb thing's got 16Gb ram and it's ALWAYS full. So my mom offered her old Sammy Galaxy Tab 4 10.1 (SM-T530NU) for him or my daughter to us a while back and I picked it up today. I tried to sign my son in and come to find out that the sammy is surprisingly still on Android 5 and doesn't support Google family link . I'm looking for a ROM...or something I can do to make this thing support the family link min specs, let me use an SD card instead of internal memory (since this also only has 16 GB), and still has full use of Bluetooth, cameras, mic, and Netflix/etc.
Is there ANYTHING I can "upgrade' to that would fit all this?

Just look here on this section. Before asking, look better and you will see lineage 16 and lightningfastrom 17.1. I advice you the first one.

Htc Shift With Win 8 2GB ram and 128GB SSD!

Hi all, this is my 1st post.
I've just upgraded my HTC shift with Kingspec 128GB sad and 2GB ram. Now the shift feels super fast!
My version is the italian one and liberate with Romeo OS and running win 7 before the upgrade. i got the sad along with an oem version (built 9200) of windows 8.
install was by using the usb tool to boot and install the OS. i was intending to use the acorns true image however, the image was screwed and hence i decided to install the windows 8.
it's not a path for novices but people with a bit of tinkering knowledge will be able to to do it.
Wifi works and SD card works.
Worth of a mention is one seller on Ebay whom sold me the Keyboard. It came with a few broken keys and they offered to send me another at no extra cost!
I got the memory from here ebay.com/itm/251325732211
SSD from here ebay.com/itm/121184667524?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649
The sad sure took his time to come. almost 1 month!
For those who are willing to take the gamble to upgrade, Go ahead. It's worth it.
Battery life improved significantly. Now running close to 2 hours with simple email reading and bait of youtube here and there.
Looking to get another battery and leather case.
a pictures say a thousand words.

Did the speed increase alot(with the SSD)? I am wondering that cause we're limited to the slow 800mhz processor =/
Thread was going downhill fast. Since the OP hasn't posted here recently, the thread is being closed.

Can we get UMS working on the S5, please?

There was a project for UMS on various Samsung devices, that worked up until the S3 and Note 2, I think, but it hasn't been updated in two years. There's been hundreds of comments on the thread though it looks like the OP hasn't responded in two years. The project is likely dead at this point. He was last online in May, but I sent him a PM regarding the project to see if he plans to continue it, or if he can supply the source so someone else can. Either way. would anyone be willing to look into getting UMS working on the S5 (or any device, for that matter)? I ask because I bought a Kenwood car stereo a few months ago and it doesn't work with MTP (why, I don't know, stupid design flaw). I have a 128 GB SD card in my phone and it almost seems like a waste.

Galaxy Tab 4 7-inch (any way to make apps work from SD card?)

Hello. Looking for ways non-rooted (would be best) or rooted to move apps to a uSD card on a Galaxy Tab 4 7-inch Wi-Fi. What a horrible situation, I bought a few of these tabs during Christmas for my kids and all of them were out of space in a couple days, and when I tried moving apps to a uSD - was shocked to find out that I could not.
Sorry, I did find a couple threads regarding this, but since I started this new topic I didn't know how to cancel it out. So maybe there's some new suggestions that will come of this.
Thanks all!

New Nexus User

I posted a thread over on G+ asking for advice on a few phones and an Edward Lewandowski replied telling me to check out the 6p. Well initially that was my plan A, so I'm going with my plan A. I have to wait for a few more days before I get my pell grant refund back (EC Engineering at University of Alabama). I've been following Swappa the last few days. What would y'all recommend for storage? I was thinking about getting a 128GB one I found from a guy selling for $425. I'm coming from a HTC One M8, so where are my other M8 users?
S/o to Edward Lewandowski (hope I got the spelling right)

Storage is really gonna come down to what you use it for. 64GB is more than enough for me but if you store a lot of media on your phone it might not be. Are you planning on modifying the phone? If so check out my guide here:

I make 64 gb work but find more storage is never bad. I use multirom (eventhough my daily driver has been Pure Nexus since early July) but I might test out more roms if I had the extra space. It turns into a bit of a detterent if I know I have to migrate data elsewhere just to test and then put it back. But generally speaking, 64 gb works fine for me.

Tab A (~10")... which is which

Hi,
At the moment I'm looking for a new tablet for me and my wife. I've made my pick (Tab S5e 128 GB), but my wife wants something lighter, as most she'll do on it is read or play HayDay.
She has her mind set on a Tab A, but there are several at the moment, 10.1, 10.5,...
Requirements for a wifi only tab A:
Lineage or other custom rom support
Snapdragon CPU
For the rest no requirements, but I thing a 64 Gb version is a tad more future proof. The Exynos CPU is a nice one, but hardly supported by custom rom builders. (I tried for the Tab S2, luckily @ripee and @tripLr took over)
Which one is which, is the 2019 version a better option then the older ones,... To many Tab A models. (at least the S series are numbered)

Why would she possibly need 64gb for what you described? The SM-510 with 32gb is way more than enough to do what she wants. I have mine rooted with a custom Lineage 16 ROM and a 17 one is "in the works", just waiting for a few bugs to be solved. Yes, there may be more custom ROMs for Snapdragon SoCs, but that is just because they've been around longer. I also have a 2016 SM-t580 with an Exynos SoC and I have 6 different Android 10 ROMs on it and I don't have them all.
IMO, unless you are watching 4k movies or are an avid "gamer", there should be no reason to need more than 32gb of internal storage when you can always add a 256gb SD card. And, personally, I'd never use a 10" tablet for either of those activities
Added Note: I don't consider people who enjoy a pleasant time with Hay Day to be "avid gamers". That app works quite well on my old 2016, 16gb Tab A.

Hi Lewmur,
Could you offer a quick comment on the recent SM-510 vs the 2016 SM-T 580? Love my 580, does most all of what I need well, but I'm thinking the RAM's too low at 2GB. Just started looking around and thought the 510 might be a better 'daily driver'. And, I think your advice to the OP was spot on.
Cheers! :highfive:

To be honest, I don't use either tablet to do anything that stretches their capability. The battery life on my 510 seems better, but then again, its is new and the 580 is three years old. The Antutu benchmark on the 510 is much better at 113745 as opposed to the 580 at 83259. Bottom line, if I had to pay retail for a 510 to upgrade from a 580, I wouldn't do it. I bought my two 510s for $80 and $50 including shipping. They were both in like new condition but with one catch. They are "Not for Sale" models with only 2gb and 16gb. The "Not for Sale" doesn't mean they are not legit. They both "registered" with Samsung without a problem. They just couldn't be sold "retail" and don't include a warranty.
edit: For an 80 yr old with shaky hands, the 510 does take a much better photo.
