Question about changing from EU to global ROM (call recording) - OnePlus 8 Pro Questions & Answers

Any one know if the global ROM support call recording out of the box? Really need that feature.
Also if it has it and I flash it, will the global ROM support all 3g,4g,5g bands as the EU ROM do?

Mine doesn't (Sweden) and when I run the abd command to enable it, it works but then it incorporates new bugs, like hides the comment section in instagram when replying etc so you can't see what your typing, also in other apps it hides the text box when typing so your typing in blind.
So anyone with any, I mean ANY SOLUTION please let me know, thanks :good:

It was not active on my phone as well(Greece) but I'm rooted so I just installed the Magisk module.
Have u checked this thread? There're are several ways for rooted and non-rooted devices(compatible with 8/8 Pro)

What's your model mate,?
It's plausible that your carrier didn't want you to have that feature.
I know certain locations at restrictions on certain functions.
For example; in Australia you need to keep the audio turned on when taking a picture, apparently it was restricted so you couldn't turn it off.
Not sure about now but that's where my money is.
Might be worth simply flashing a normal EU firmware, the same as my one and i cannot see why it wouldn't work..
Post your about phone screen. Obviously hide your IMEI / number if it's on that screen (shouldn't be there but just in case)
I do have the EU phone but I'm in the UK, so could be an EU thing not UK.
Let's see what your model / variant is and we'll go from there

Identical
Did you get your phone from a provider or straight from OnePlus?
Is it's the provider then it's down to them I'd say..
Flashing a firmware may fix it. Downloading a full update from oxygen update may do the job.
Beyond that I'm not sure pal.

Got it from a regular store, so it's a retail OnePlus model not branded.

To my knowledge the operator decides if it's available or not, unfortunately. No call recording with any operator in sweden (I've tried). I use the magisk module (oos native call recorder enabler), been using it on op6, 6t and now op8 pro. No issues.
Edit: it even works on oos11 DP3...

Got mine from 3 UK on a 24 month, not locked to any network.
3 were the only network in the UK to get this phone.
They don't tend to mess with features like EE have in the past and although id prefer the EE network for speed and stability, 3 haven't actually been that bad, their 5G hasn't been great though, I don't have 5G on at all.. as it's not been worth the battery hit. 4G usually gives me around 100Mb whereas EE was around 275Mb in the same location (my house)

Well personally I'll never buy another Sammy again, least not until they start allowing Qualcomm to provide all SOC's, the difference is night and day between the Exynos and Snapdragon.
I had the ultra on order and it didn't arrive for so long so when I saw the 8 Pro I switched, after looking at the problems that chip caused I'm glad I did..
I'm sure there should be a call recording feature you can install.

EE Wifi Calling

Is anyone looking to work on this for the Nexus 6p?
I have one preordered from the play store and as such won't have the "feature" enabled by default (as you have to purchase the device directly from EE so they can load their own stuff on it)
However, seems the guys in this thread came pretty close, some got it working http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s6-edge/help/ee-wifi-calling-t3082364
At first it seemed like a few simple XML changes were all that was needed, i can't in fact make out from the 12 page thread if thats correct or not, some claim it worked with these changes, some said flashing EE's own firmwares etc was needed.
Please post any knowledge on this here, anyone who purchases from EE and is willing to share information/dump firmware would be greatly appreciated i'm sure :highfive:

I'll be interested in this as well, I've ordered mine from CPW on EE. I'm sure there'll be no problem enabling it we'll just need to extract the required elements from the EE ROM. I'm sure someone will produce a flashable zip.

I'm sure someone will. This is a nexus device, the owners tend to be more technically inclined so I don't think it'll be an issue.
The EE wifi calling is more than just a change of an xml file (which is Samsung specific) They use a VPN tunnel for the wifi calling which is not an application you can install and is embedded into the EE firmware for the S6/Edge.
Also don't forget that EE only allow wifi calling on phones brought through EE (in store and online) and I do not know if a pure stock android N6P would even be EE branded with wifi calling enabled etc.
I thought all nexus device came with stock android even carrier devices a

They only "allow" it because of the embedded firmware you mention, not so much a decision to disallow it.
My hope is that whatever code is embedded could potentially be extracted/applied to stock? I guess we need someone here with an EE nexus to help us out . My other half just received a google store notification that her 5x is being delivered today, so maybe someone with a 5x direct from EE will be around soon :fingers-crossed:

The chances are pretty much 99.9% that a Nexus brought through EE won't have any EE bloatware added whatsoever and will be pure 100% stock.
I'm hoping it can be extracted/reverse engineered also - but I wouldn't expect it for a little while at least.
The guy who has a 6p that posted a couple days ago showed a wifi calling option. He was on t mobile. I never got to where he replied if it worked.

I'm really hoping this is the case. I get F&F discount on EE so it makes sense to get my handset through them at serious discount. The only downside is that my previous devices have all had EE firmware, bloatware and SIM lock on them.
If the N6P comes unmolested then that would be perfect. The only thing I can see them adding is SIM lock (although I disagree with this on principle too - I should be able to put whatever SIM in my phone I want....).
I'm struggling to get any useful info on whether the Nexus will be hacked around by EE - I would sincerely hope they are prevented from doing so by Google as the entire premise of Nexus is that it's pure Android and all the benefits that brings...
Because it's a nexus and there is only 1 model number for the international variant there shouldn't be any ee bloat, just the same as the iPhone. And therefore any 6p should work with WiFi calling on ee just like the iPhone. Ee have already advertised the 6p as having WiFi calling so we should all be good to go. The ee representative I spoke to when sorting my new sim only contract assumed that this would be correct.

If that turns out to be the case I'll be very happy, I guess I'll just have to wait until Monday to find out.
I concur. Also waiting to see if they're going to get the 64 and 128 versions in. The lack of SD card is the only fly in the ointment for me so far (I have a 64gb card in my One M8 and wouldn't want any less now).
I bought iPhone 6s Plus directly from Apple and was surprised I could make wifi calling, just Enabled wifi calling under phone settings. I was informed by EE only phones bought directly from them would come with that option.
That'll be interesting then, it suggests there's something proprietary to enable it on EE devices?

Generally yes. But not always. Look to the US past Nexii to see carriers being allowed to fiddle. Verizon especially.

For EE, in this case I believe they are making software changes so the 6P's from them will probably have a different build number. Though I need to find others who appear to have unlocked international versions come from EE (it does happen) who still have different build numbers to people who bought it from agnostic stores.
I don't know why some people are so confident EE will change nothing. They are making firmware changes on all other devices with WiFi calling, nexus willl be no different
Regardless of what people think the answer as some suggest is not to buy from EE direct, I didn't start the thread for that workaround, I don't want a device from a carrier I want it from Google. I don't want it sim locked or touched by anyone else, that's fair right?
My other half received her 5x two days ago so roll on 6p deliveries!
You should test to see if your other half's 5x works with WiFi calling on ee.

S7 International on AT&T carrier

Anyone using S7 International version on US AT&T carrier?
Care to report any issues? Drawbacks? Limitations, etc?
I'm curious about the this as well
If so, any issues, like with GPS? Also does Samsung pay work?
I don't get why Samsung has made this so complicated: some of us want t faster updates, custom roms etc and are willing to pay for it. And in this particular case a slightly faster more efficient variant.
I just got the 930f, and using it on cricket. So far, I see no drawbacks, but I haven't used it enough. Cricket was auto detected and APN settings already configured. The 930f from ebay was sealed, and no European sim needed.

LTE works fine, but this is missing band 30. But Band 30 is very new, and I believe it's mainly big city markets that use it.
^great thank you for the info
I got the international S7 Edge (935f) and I am using it on ATT.
The ebay sellers remove the region lock before shipping, which requires a 10 minute call in the originating country. I also had no issues when putting my ATT sim in and didn't have to change APN settings or anything, it all worked immediately. I get 4G LTE and speeds are typical for what I am used to. I could also use my phone as a wireless hotspot right away, which was very important to me, and something ATT does not allow without a separate plan. No band 30 as was mentioned, but I can live without that. Also, no samsung pay (for the time being), and no voice over LTE, which I never used before anyway. You're also on your own for warranty.
Not many disadvantages to taking the international over the carrier brand, and you will get a lower cost, bloat free, and rootable/fully customizable phone as an advantage. Very happy w/ my purchase.

I'm curious if the Samsung Pay app is missing or if it's present and just unable to be configured due to the model number. Thanks! Also, I read someone complaining about GPS with their SM-G935F here in the US. Can't imagine why that would be, but have you had any issues in that area?
samsung pay is not even present. It needs to be baked in by the carrier.
As for GPS, it's perfectly fine. I used it earlier today and it locked in & got me where I needed to go without issue. I don't see why people would say GPS would be impacted by an international phone? GPS will be the same in all of these, and it will connect to the same satellites all the other carriers would use. This isn't like a car where it needs to have region-specific maps pre-loaded.

Thanks for that. Wasn't aware that they combine the Internet connection with the GPS in these phones, makes sense though.
Still, I speak from personal experience with the phone, GPS locks instantly and works great with Google maps. Haven't used it with any other 3rd party apps yet though. If others have had issues I'd like to hear their personal accounts.

MHA-L29C567B167 BIG update for USA Version spotted.

Big update for the USA version spotted. MHA-L29C567B167
Updates include:
This update optimizes the drawer homescreen display.
Adds a feature, which enables you to send and receive group messages when you use a SIM card without MSISDN.
Adds a feature, which displays contact names in group messages for a richer experience.
Optimizes the drawer homescreen display for better user experience.
Fixes an issue where you cannot use Google Voice when using the SIM card of a certain carrier.
It's currently installable/rebrandable via a paid service, but not able to be installed any other way yet.
Edit: I am currently rebranding and installing it, so if anyone wants to know anything about it, let me know. I'm in Japan right now so I can't tell you any America-specific carrier features, but otherwise, feel free to ask anything.
Did they added more choice for fonts?
Do the messages appear when using a different wallpaper other than the OEM ones?
Changes in the camera?
Does "Ok, google" work when the phone is with the screen off?
Immersive mode where you do not see the home, back etc buttons until you swipe up?
Thanks!
I've got it installed:
http://imgur.com/a/1qwGN
So far I notice that the US version uses google as default keyboard and not swiftkey or swype. Otherwise, it's too early to know if there are any major differences.

I don't know what the original font choices were so I don't know.
The camera seems the same as before. No 10x zoom strangely, just 6x.
OK Google only works with screen on or device charging.
No immersive mode.
Good to know we'll a full ROM for your service or others that pop up.

I need a copy of the offline full rom, if you have it available PM me. I need it for testing on my KangVIP Slim rom and I would like to extract the system etc and make a US based ROM. I'll return the phone before I pay to rebrand it back to the US version. I have a week left to send it back. I printed out the return shipping label last night. I'm 75% sure I'm sending it back. The phone itself is great but the software is not. The more I pick up my Mi Max and start to use it the more and more I hate EMUI.

The kernel was built on February 9, so it's actually the newest update in terms of build date. But it seems Huawei is going in a slightly different direction for features in the US firmware.
I installed it and am now using it, so I'll report regarding anything I notice that differentiates it from the other international models.

As mentioned in the original post, it is currently not being pushed to phones or signed for installation by Huawei, and therefore cannot be installed on phones right now without a paid service like FunkyHuawei. In the future, if you have the US model, you will likely get it as an OTA update. It's anyone's guess when, though.
Is there a difference in LTE bands between the US and other versions? My wife has a U.S. Version and I currently have L29C636B158 and places where she has 4 bars of LTE I only will get H+. I've checked APN settings and they are identical so it's not that. I just purchased a US version and am going to sell the one I have now but I'm more so wondering for down the line if I flash a custom rom if there is anything I'll need to do to preserve that LTE band from the US version.

No, there's no LTE band difference. I took a Chinese model to the US and got reception on T-Mobile the whole time with no issues over New Years. All of the same US LTE bands are supported by all versions.
But by any chance were you on T-Mobile in a Band 12 area? That's the only thing I can think of, as I think T-Mobile does some weird things with Band 12.

C636 I believe is the Chinese version of the mate 9 which does not have the correct us bands. There's no way to get those bands in your version. You'll have to purchase the us version. Flashing does not alter capability in terms of LTE capability.

No we were both on At&t. I know there's a difference between the two because even with fresh reboots there were certain areas in SoCal that her mate 9 would get solid LTE and mine would not lock on no matter what and I'd only get H+.
CptAwesomes explanation seems legit, I remember reading somewhere that one of the models had a different LTE band, I was thinking it was the US model but I guess it's the one I have which is one of the SE Asia models I believe. That's good news then since I already purchased a U.S. Model and will be selling this one shortly. Clears things up for my future flashing needs.

US phone in the UK - CSC change

Hi all,
I lived in the US but recently came back to the UK. I got an unlocked S8 (SM-G950UZBAXAA) and I was wondering if I can change the CSC to BTU from XAA, since I haven´t got Spay to work
Cheers

oh, maybe I got the name wrong. I mean that since my phone is G950U I can only use CSCs that are available for that model. THE BTU or XEU is only available for model G950F, so I cannot get them on my phone. Is that right?

So that may be true (although I'm not completely positive you couldn't ) that they do not make CSCs for you device on those networks, but a CSC is not necessary to use an unlocked phone on a different network. I have been travelling overseas with tri and quad and phones for years and the phone works just fine with a local sim in it. The CSC just makes your phone have local BRANDING and some configurations that the carrier wants. The radios all work everywhere. This may mean that you will have to do extra work to get custom carrier specific apps and stuff (like Verizon in the us has a visual voicemail app that many people who rooted have worked hard to get back) but the phone will make and receive calls just fine.
Think of it this way, many people in the carrier switch thread have made their us snapdragon devices XAA CSC which is unbranded us generic, and they all can make and receive calls just fine. The point of sim unlocked phones is that they can be used anywhere the radios can pick up signal, and yours supports every uk 3g utms and lte signal your country uses.
Maybe someday I will prove this completely by flashing an exynos CSC on my g950u and show it doesn't brick or even fail. Might put this misinformation to bed.

Thanks for your post, quite informative. The reason why I want to change the CSC is mainly for samsung pay, which seems to be limited to us cards on this phone. Other than that, everything works great, and it is not a big concern, I think I will just forget about samsung pay and use android pay instead (althoug it would be good to be able to get some of the promotions available, so I may pop up to a samsung store and ask if it is possible to switch)

If you are staying not rooted and stock there may be a way to do that without CSC change I don't know I haven't looked into it
I'll stick to the "official" set up for now, but I'll keep an eye in case it can be done in the future. Too much information for me! Maybe when root is finally achieved it will be possible, who knows

Did they enable Dual SIM with the new 10.5.11 update?

I got a notification that the new version is available, did anyone already update to the new version? Is the Dual SIM now working?

Are you still waiting for the dual sim to be turned on? I had a feeling it won't be enabled until the android 11 is available. I
from what I have heard and read from a user in the USA witn the NA version over on oneplus forum with the DP3 firmware, both sim slots are actually working in the DP3, I`m running the DP3 OS and i just tried slot 2 for the sim and it works, data and phone calls work on SIM 2!

Well at release they said "soon", then they said by the end of June, then July, then "first of august". Now not until A11 I guess because it does work in there....but at this point I expect them to disable it on NA version too just because.
No, not waiting anymore.

I'm really disappointed with this and I've been waiting. I'm either going to get a different dual sim phone or wait for A11 to come out. Waiting a few weeks after release is fine but not 6 to 8 months, which they already going to come out with a new model.
As far as I know, only DP3 in the US supports Dual SIMs. I'm using a VZW and my work TMO SIMs working fine.

How stable is DP3 for you? I might want to switch over soon to get that dual sim enabled.

I have been struggling from the begining of this issue now day 106 -- lol My views is that this is a political issue not a tech one. It is becoming very obvious to me that OP has no intention of correcting this and since every other variant is dual sim it leads me to believe this is because north american carriers do not like or support dual sim phones. OP is trying to break into the partnership game and I'm sure T-Mobile dictated the terms and removing dual sim was likely one of them. The other very disappointing thing is that OP has become strictly regional and will not sell other variants out of your region and going to places like amazon is the only option. Here is the thing if you have repair issues support will not touch your phone and offer a replacement for your sales area only. I had a 2023 and it needed fixing. I sent it to OP and the only solution they would come up with was to replace it with a 2025 so I,m back to square one, no pun intended, I now have 2 2025 and one still in the unopened box and both are for sale with a xperia 1 on it's way from hong kong. I have had 7 OP handsets and was right in there from the startup but I'm gone. The regionalization of OP has taken them into the area where there is no room for the small group who want that raw and pure unbranded phone, easy to root and a good international tool. My advise to anyone considering OP, especially in north america is to go somewhere else if you are looking for a true international phone. Their support will not help you if it needs fixing if you purchased a "world phone" variant. Maybe a class action suit would be in order but this group of disgruntled users is likely too small. Damn !!!!!!!
I have the 11 version and dual sim IS working. U.S. version btw. Crap just realized you were inquiring about the update not DP3.
