Minimum brightness - Google Pixel 5 Real Life Review

I think the same as Pixel 4.
It's ok. But I wouldn't mind having even a bit less brightness.
White backgrounds with night light still kill my eyes in the night.
At least smooth display goes forced automatically at low brightness. (Unlike the smaller Pixel 4 where I had to force it manually to have 90Hz at night). So I don't need to enable developers settings anymore. (Note this last paragraph doesn't apply to old 4XL users. Just to old 4 users).

Minimum brightness is acceptable, and I use Halo app to lower the brightness even more.
However, at minimum brightness, text and grey objects start to get laggy when scrolling. I think it's an OLED issue in general, but I'm not sure.

I use a blue light filter app to lower brightness even more at night at a set time plus turn the blue light filter on. I know pixel 5 has this feature but not as effective with the app I use.

Except sunny days, the minimum brightness is sufficient to read almost all in the screen (not always simple to see the hour between cover and tempered glass)
sufficient but could have been better
in day time under dark room, regular tasks are fine. but if you go to sunlight, this needs to be maximize. under night condition as well, minimum brightness is sufficient.
Its good but could have been better

Yes especially daylight or direct sunlight
Minimum brightness is not that much minimum as Xiaomi phones have
I have difficulty using phone at night i have to use third party apps to further decrease brightness,
XIAOMI phones are much better in terms of minimum brightness
In sunlight its not that much bright but its ok
Can't complain. Though minimum is still a little too much.
little bit bright for dark room.
Just right. Not too bright.
The display can get nice and dark while still being visible.

When I read in bed in the early morning darkness, it doesn't hurt my eyes. Works especially well with the Moto display feature that reduces blue light whenever activated.
Blue light filter is a bit more mild than what I've used on other devices, but I think I prefer it that way, cuz I don't want my image to look perma-orange.
Minimum brightness is very good. Easy to read at night without hurting my eyes.
Leftmost ~25% of Brightness Slider Ineffective
This thing doesn't go nearly dim enough. As stated in the title, the slider seems ineffective at all when sliding down to below 25 or so %. Lame.

Turn off auto-brightness. The auto scaling will only go so low if it thinks the room is lighter than you want. When set to manual, the brightness goes very low.
Thanks. That helps a little, but still doesn't go as low as I'd hoped. Pretty sure with my old Nexus 6, I could get it so low I couldn't even read it. With this, the lowest is still not low enough.
to get the screen dim the way I like, I use the "screen filter" app.
As for the night mode, the screen on the x4 has a bit of a blue cast to my
eyes so I just run the night mode all the time. The whites are a bit orangeish
but I'd rather see that than a blue cast.
Now if only I could turn of the notification icon for that and
everytime i unlock the x4.
Great display.

Buggy Update
After the update last 25-10-2018, the contrast of my games became darker. It seems that my games turned darker compare to pre-update. Also there are some instance that my games are disappearing when I'm in shark mode.
I think the brightness is great as well. I have it under 50% and it's still brighter than my Pixel 2 XL at 50%.
You know the brightness curve is different on the Pixel phones with Android Pie than other phones right? It's a linear curve in brightness now. So 50% is truly 50% of the displays capability. It's been measured around 480-490 nits maximum so 50% is around 240-245. Can't say the same for non-Android Pie phones. They would hit 50% brightness at a lower setting. That being said, the Black Shark Helo is rated a lower 430 nits at maximum.

The minimum brightness is much better than the OnePlus 5 without having to use third party dimming apps
My eyes are quite sensitive and i love this screen in this regard
Minimum brightness is fine, but the auto setting dims it too much in semi dark environments. I always end up upping the brightness manually.
The lowest brightness is pretty low. Using the blue light filter lowers it further. 11/10 satisfied.
The lowest is really low, though not completely off. This is a very good move on OnePlus' part

I agree 100%. This part annoys me but I can live with it. Hopefully OnePlus sees this and updates it.

The lower setting on the brightness bar from the notification bar at the top, is very bright still. It does dim the display a lot, but if you try to use the phone in total darkness, it is very bright.
Have to agree I also find it too bright at the lowest level
Tad too bright even with the reading mode on.
Any way of further bringing it down?

This is kernel related feature, so you need to flash a kernel Clean state kernel offer this capacity
Brightness is too bright even on 0%, feel eyestrain.
I agree with other users, the display is too bright even at lowest brightness. I need some fix that works without root.
Try Dimmer on fdroid.
