Note 20 Ultra vs OnePlus 8 Pro - Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra Guides, News, & Discu

So I know this will not be a popular opinion, but I received my Note 20 Ultra today and I am not sure I like it more than my OnePlus 8 Pro. I also have a Note 10 plus and when I got the 8 pro I noticed that I used it more than the Note. I know there is a lot going around about the 8 Pro screen, but I guess I am one of the lucky ones. My screen to me is awesome. The sized is a little slimmer than the Notes and a little easier to hold in the hand. Has anyone elses moved from a 8 Pro to a 20 Ultra? What are your thoughts?

If I didn't rely on my s-pen and camera so much, I'd probably own a OnePlus 8 Pro.

I own both phones along with a note 10 plus and temporarily an s20 ultra (until it gets traded in). I would say the OnePlus 8 pro is a marvelous phone. With the addition of the AOD with the latest update it is essentially perfect. I moved to the Note 20 ultra as my primary phone mostly because of the superior multitasking, more storage (yes I need it) and the flexibility of wireless DEX. People say the OnePlus phones "feel" faster but I honestly could never tell the difference.

I had OnePlus 7T for last 6 months, had 8 Pro for a week and now have Note20 Ultra for lat 3 days...I would say 8 Pro is better phone overall (not considering Camera and S Pen)...Software on 8 Pro is lot better than Note20 in my honest opinion..palm rejection on Note20 sucks for me...I still love Note20 screen and design and I am going to keep it until 8T pro comes...I wish they tone down the curved screen on 8T Pro..I didn't like the curve on 8 Pro...

OnePlus 8 Pro?

I currently have a Pixel 2XL and am starting to itch for an upgrade. I was excited for the Pixel 4XL but I can't justify the price for what you get. Then the OnePlus 7 Pro caught my eye and I'm considering buying that with the Black Friday deal.
Do you guys think it would be worth waiting for the OnePlus 8 Pro (April-May 2020) or should I just pull the trigger on the 7 Pro with it's current discount?
I'd go for the OP7Pro if the black friday discounts are substantial. selling the OP7Pro in future will not suffer much loses if you wish to change phones in future.
Get the 7Pro for the win! Then trade up to the 8 later...
Getting the OnePlus 7Pro was the largest jump in phones as far as tech/display and just all around happiness with the device(previously used the LG G7/Mi Mix 3). Easily money well spent and to be honest, if i completely bricked this one i would try to buy another one to replace it.
Well I heard the 8 is gonna have a hole punch. So if you want the gorgeous display get the 7pro

HOLE PUNCH?!?!???! BLEGGHH. I cant go from a full, un-interrupted display to a silly looking punch hole in my screen. I really loved the look on the Mi Mix 3 and i love the look on the 7Pro( i never use front facing camera's anyway)
I have both the 2xl and OP7 pro and love both. 2xl camera still runs laps around 7 pro but 7 pro is in another league in every other measurable.

That is disappointing to hear. I love the camera on my Pixel 2XL and feel it might be the only thing to make me return the OnePlus 7 Pro when I get it.
In my personal opinion I feel that camera quality is very subjective. Let's face it, we are talking about looking at the majority of our pictures on a 5 or 6 inch screen that has more resolution than most TV's! The only way you can tell if one camera is better than another is to hold them side-by-side while looking at the exact same photo....who does this? The camera on the 7 Pro is great...it takes pictures...in color....on a fairly large high resolution screen. To make our choice for a "phone" (communication device) based on how accurate the pictures might be (which again is subjective) is not the way to do things. There are too many other things that are necessary for one of these compact computers to work properly that I feel that the camera is the last, and the least important. If the battery runs out...no pictures...if you cannot maintain a good network signal, then you basically have an overpriced camera. It's just gotten way out of normal reasoning to worry so much about the camera on a smart phone. YMMV

There is a ported gcam app for OP7 that closes the quality gap a bit but you have to be rooted to use the Telephoto, and Wide lenses with it. The upgrade is still worth.
I wish the front cam cutout were in the middle and not on the left side like how it's shown in the leaks @ 8 Pro.
OnePlus 8
OnePlus continues to attract attention until the official announcement of the OnePlus 8 phones, and once again new official images emerge showing the colors of the OnePlus 8 Pro.
This year, OnePlus introduces an exclusive blue color for OnePlus 8 Pro, or is known as Ultramarine Blue, on the other hand, OnePlus OnePlus 8 Pro is presented in green or Glacial Green hue, which is also offered for OnePlus 8 flagship edition.
Oneplus OnePlus 8 Pro and OnePlus 8 are slated to be offered in Onyx black, and OnePlus 8 Pro does not come in blue like the Interstellar Glow model presented in OnePlus 8.
Roland Quandt also highlighted new leaks on the OnePlus 8 Pro screen that appears curved design on both sides, while the screen appears flat in the main version of OnePlus 8.
OnePlus 8 Pro also comes with a 6.78-inch AMOLED display, with a refresh rate of 120 Hz, and the screen brightness ratio reaches 1,300 nits.
Previous leaks confirmed that OnePlus 8 Pro has 48-megapixel sensors, with the main Sony IMX689 sensor 1 / 1.43 and 1.12µm pixels, while the IMX586 sensor comes with wide viewing angles, with an 8-megapixel zoom sensor, and it supports up to 3 times optical zoom , While the last 5MP sensor comes to collect more accurate color detail.
It is reported that OnePlus company recently confirmed that the OnePlus 8 Pro phone was launched with a Snapdragon 865 processor, and also reviewed the efficiency of the refresh rate of 120 Hz in the screen, the phone also comes with LPDDR5 standards in random memory, and UFS 3.0 standards in storage capacity, as the phones support 5G networks .
Current Pixel 2 user - I'm going to ride out the last year of Google support and jump ship next year. Will be interesting to see the advancements going to the 5nm SD875, which I assume will be on most of 2021 flagships!

S20 or note 10

I am debating on whether to get the S20 4g version or the note 10 which came out last year
Both are similar in size , similar ish specs to the average person they wouldn't be able to tell in day to day use.
Also note 10 you can get around £500-£600 on eBay which makes it alot cheaper then the s20
What are your thoughts ?
It all goes down to the 120 Hz screen then in your case. If you care a ought about 120hz, get s20, if you don't, then definitely Note 10+. I don't suggest you get the base note 10. You won't find much difference between note 10+ and s20, they're literally only a few months apart.
Note 10+ is better you will get the S-pen features if you don't give much priorities for the refresh rate.
Cameras will be way better on S20 and so is the refresh rate, Note 10+ is obsolete, S20 for me, compact with good battery backup
Note 10 is bigger than S20, most noticeable in width. I have a note 10 and was comparing to S20 in CPW. S20 is much easier to hold on to. Button placement, for me, is more preferable on the S20.

I have both and camera is not better, its actually worse in some cases.
I don't like the fact that the Note 10 has all the buttons on the left... what were they thinking?
Then there's the shape of the display... weird curve... the S20 is not nearly as curved... it's almost flat.
And all the buttons on the right side.
Plus the 120hz is a nice bonus

anybody comes from s20 ultra to one plus 8 pro any regrets?

im currently planning to buy a new phone, in my country one plus 8 pro is almost the same price of a s20 ultra, currently i have samsung active 2 and samsung galaxy buds plus, is there anybody here that come from s20 ultra or any s20 lineup and regret it?
Yes, I came from S20 ultra, then S20+ (for a 7-day free trial) then to Oneplus 8 Pro.
Both Samsung devices were running Exynos chipsets and were having poor battery life and getting hot pretty much all the time, even with almost no apps installed.
S20 ultra camera had big focusing issues, even with the latest updates applied.
I have NO regrets, SnapDragon 865 is just much better and Android OxygenOS is great!

Are u facing any display issues? Like green tint, image retention, burn in , black crush during low background? Any display uniformity? M planning to buy 8 pro in india.. but the display issues most of users are facing making me think not to buy... Plz rly
hi all,
I have S20Ultra since the begining. Then I bought Oneplus 8 Pro.
PROs for S20Ultra:
great display
flat display
one ui
96hz refresh rate
one handed mode
able to customise UI using Substratum, Sinergy or Hex without root
compatible with Disabler Pro to disable bloatware
CONs for S20Ultra:
exynos chipset which is terrible
quick heating up
autofocus issues
bad overall pictures and filming due to 108mp sensor not being optimised
bad HDR
no reliable face id
I used Disable Pro to disable bloatware and i managed to get a decent battery life of almost 7hrs SoT and a decent standby battery drain
PROs Oneplus8 Pro:
great display
120hz refresh rate
good battery life
option to install and use gcam
CONs Oneplus 8 Pro:
no one-hand mode
no 90hz display refresh rate lower rate
curved display
unable to customise UI using Substratum, Sinergy or Hex without root
notcompatible with Disabler Pro to disable bloatware
no reliable face id
bottom line:
if S20Ultra would have had a Snapdragon 865 chipset or a decent comparable Exynos one
if Samsung would care to give great camera experience
if 3d face id would be available
then i would buy Note 20+ or S20+ immediatelly
If Oneplus 8 Pro would fix 3x camera zoom pictures and video
if no curved display
if 3d face id would be available
then i will buy Oneplus 8 pro without to think

Tough one. The camera is better on the S20 ultra (not the auto-focus) but not by a big margin.
OxygenOS is so much better than Samsung UI 2.0 in my opinion, and I prefer the screen of my Oneplus 8 Pro than the one on S20 ultra.
The price difference is also a factor and it is close to stock android.
I think I would have still switched. I am just disappointed with Samsung (and I had all of them since before the S7)

None, but I have the IN2020 with the BA software, and my understanding is that they mostly are safe (I saw that in another forum).
I imported it from China with the Global EU rom on it already installed (the box was sealed, so it must have been a version for the EU?)
The screen is gorgeous, no black crush, no retention.

Excellent analysis! So true!
OnePlus 8 pro compared to S20 Ultra has a gorgeous display with the crisp clarity of the details. The OnePlus8 Pro comes with DisplayA+ rated
I've been seen so many issues on this xda forum for this phone that its getting me thinking to keep the s20 ultra, overheat issues, besides the screen issues, sadly because I really like it, but with no official support in my Country, that would be a high risk, better scenario should be to send the phone to US / Texas and would be a hassle...

if using with playstore what notifications issues? meaning for which applications you don;t get notifications?
and what means aurora store with google but playstore won't work?

Cancelled it.
Ordered OnePlus 8 Pro.
Heard so much awful news about the lacklustre ultra is definitely a bullet dodged, especially the Exynos turd.

yep i had an s20 ultra at launch exynos version experience was really bad drain of battery even of standby is almost the same as you are using it i sold it after 10 days of use. reason im trying to reconsider the exynos version is have no choice thats my country available option only is that they may have an updates that would make the exynos likeable again

there is some notifications you dont receive like youtube gmail etc but there is work arounds but that is if you want to use mainly playstore,
if you want all your push notifications working then the alternative way is using aurora store and disabling playstore

Should I upgrade from Samsung?

I currently own a Samsung S10+. Previously I had Oneplus 6. I moved to Samsung as it had a better camera.
How does it fair when compared to flagships from Samsung(in the camera department)?
I don't intend to buy another Samsung phone(I don't like the software and miss the snappy oneplus).
One more thing is that I feel it is a rather quick change of phones like just after one year.
Should I buy OP8pro?
if camera is important for you you should be looking at p40 pro, find x2 pro (sister company of oneplus), mi 10 pro.
i will recommend oneplus 8 pro if overall value for the money and also if your only option for samsung is exynos.
but if only s20 ultra snapdragon is available in my country i will stick with that to be honest. i sold my s20 ultra exynos and now i have oneplus 8 pro no regrets.
I switched from Note 10+ because I don't need s-pen so much. And OP8 Pro feels a lot smoother, like ....a lot. Animations from Samsung One UI looks good on s20 with 120hz, on 60Hz screen it feels laggy.
Some comprasion:
- Camera, identical for me
- battery the same but with 120hz
- software faster an lighter, but One UI is ok too.
- fingerprint scanner - my God, it's enormous difference
- face scan about 2 times faster and with higher angle
- snapdragon is far way better than exynos, no doubt
- speakers seems to be good on both
- haptics are different than Samsung's, but feels premium too.
I'm really satisfied with OP8 Pro and for me it's best Android phone so far. Maybe p40 has better camera but the difference is really tiny, you should compare them screen to screen to see the difference.
In my opinion OnePlus did fantastic job this year.

Need help regarding buying decision for Oneplus 8 pro?

Currently using galaxy S20+(exynos) but tempted for oneplus 8 pro. But hearing many issues regarding display. Need help on two things.
1) How widespread the display issues(black crush, hole punch bending, green tint)are?
2) Is the punch hole camera is like s20 or like s10+?
I came from S20+ (exynos) to OP8 Pro and then to Find X2 Pro
OP8 Pro is a great device, snappy, good camera and with much better batt life than S20+ exynos
Regretfully I had to return it due to display issues: dark bar, color rendering issues at low brightness
I would guess these are pretty common with this display because can notice them also on Find X2 Pro (same panel) but to much lower extent
Punch hole is much more like on S20+ (small)
Sent from my OPPO Find X2 Pro using XDA Labs
Man I'm glad I ditched the s20 ultra for the Op8Pro! Should've switched a few years earlier even if it's just because that hideous Exynos chip. My OP has no screen issues at all so I'm lucky there.
Only downside so far is the lack of 5g but though I think OP should have this enabled from day one it doesn't hold me back on my daily routines..
For me screen, battery life and system smoothness are true Galaxy s20 series killers based on my experience with the Exynos chip.
Do have to admit I might jump the boat when the Note 20 series arrive and Samsung offers Qualcomm in the EY
