OTA and Non-OTA Firmware for N986U and N986U1 - Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra Guides, News, & Discu

See Post #2 and #3 for the Links to the Firmware
ALL of the firmware posted here can be flashed on any N986U/N986U1 Device. The firmware is NOT carrier dependent and is only listed next to some of them in order to have an idea if you might get OTA when you flash it
Understanding Firmware naming:
N986USQU1ATGM
N=Note
986U or F etc, the model of device
SQ, FX etc = CPU and model specific
U,S,E = Update, Security, Engineering, respectively
1,2,3,4,5 etc = bootloader revision (This is important! You cannot go to a previous revision)
A,B,C,D = Android version
T, U = Year (T=2020, U=2021 etc)
A,B,C etc = month (January A - December L)
1 - 9 and then A - Z =build compilation. This basically means how many builds there are in a month. They start at 1 and go to Z
So N986USQU1ATGM would be
N968-U-SQ-U-1-A-T-G-M
N968U (Note 20 Ultra Carrier version), SQ (Snapdragon), U (Update), 1 (Bootloader version), A (Build 10), T (2020), G (July), M (22nd build)
How to enter Download Mode:
Turn off the device.
Connect USB cable to your PC (Leave it disconnected from the phone)
Press and hold down the Volume Up and Volume Down buttons. While they are still pressed, plug in the USB cable into your phone.
The phone will go into download mode press volume up. In Odin you will see that phone is added.
Dirty Flash:
I would only do this if you are having to manually update to the newer firmware and would not do it if you are coming/going to U/U1 or from beta firmware or if you are on an old firmware. I'd also highly recommend doing a back up prior to the doing this
Load these into Odin
BL
AP
CP
HOME_CSC
Do NOT flash CSC or USERDATA, either of these WILL wipe your device
This is a "dirty flash" and these can sometimes cause issues. Keep in mind if things start going sideways and stuff starts not working right, your first step to a solution will be to wipe the device.
Tips on flashing U1 Firmware:
You will have to wipe, can NOT dirty Flash going between U and U1 firmware
Use the patched ODIN linked in post #2 or #3, Odin3_v3.13.3b (They are exactly the same)
Have an active US Carrier SIM installed to get carrier features
If you get your CSC Stuck on XAA/XAA/(Insert your carrier here), and can not get Carrier options back.

Nothing yet, it'll take a bit of time after release for the firmware to start getting pushed out. This 1st one is a July release, so it'll most likely be the end of the month for the 1st round of security updates to start

Yeah sorry that is July build and not sure if that is what device will ship with out of the box. But could still be good to have.

@Venom0642 and @butchieboy, fancy meeting you guys here

I read somewhere earlier there's a day 1 patch already. 500mb, just posted as big fixes / optimizations.
Got mine coming unlocked from Samsung. Dumping att and going to TMB. With att getting more and more anti-unlocked, and the service getting crappy here lately, it's time to switch.

Yep, this will be for the US Carrier versions for the Ultra, might toss the U1 firmware's here too.
I expect Samsung will maintain the way the firmware is loaded. On the N10+ for example, you can flash any of the N10+ firmware regardless of whether is says "TMB or SPR". If there is an SIM installed that is active on a carrier's network, when the firmware is flashed it will detect that network and install the associated carrier features.

The carrier that I work for told me that ATGM is final, but with the way things are right now, it's almost impossible for me to meet up with them to get these devices on latest firmware.
Thanks again for posting the firmware for Ultra. If you can do the same for the regular Note 20. I will owe you big time!!

U Firmware

Hey.
Has anyone been able to get the U firmware working on a Tmobile s7 edge? I got an error along the lines of "sw rev check fail fused 3 binary 2".
Thanks.

Are you on the latest security update? I think the U firmware is patched up to May or so, these device bootloaders won't allow downgrading, maybe with the eng boot you can flash it, but from what I've been reading there's no going backwards, only flashing of the same updates or future.

I would assume so since they usually have the base the same, the V and other software versions are able to use it, so we should be too once it's on the same update level.

I'll just have to figure out when the U firmware gets updated to the July patch. I'm a bit surprised that T-Mobile is ahead of the U firmware. Any idea why that is?
Sent from my SM-G935T using Tapatalk
I think we're all surprised really, lol, but they missed us on the May patch, so we jumped straight to our current update. U isn't as popular as the carrier versions in the US, so that may also explain the slower updates.

Ok, so it looks like the August patch just dropped for the U firmware. So theoretically, will I be able to flash that now?
Also, in firmware zips, I always see a CSC and a HOME_CSC. What is the difference? Which should I use if I want to have a full and complete flash?
Thanks.

Please let us know how flashing the new August U firmware goes for you. It does look like the new U devices are now on the V2 bootloader.
I have an official SM-G935U and after the update it says on the bootloader page RP SWREV: B2(2, 1, 1, 1, 1) K1 S1. My hope is that at some point I can flash the official T-Mo firmware to my G935U if the G935U falls behind in updates again.
CSC will wipe the device. HOME_CSC will not wipe the device, from what I understand.

Isn't the T-Mobile firmware on version 3 bootloader? That means the flash from T-Mobile to U won't work. BTW, I've already flashed from U to T-Mobile. I would not recommend flashing the Tmobile firmware because I still don't think it's possible to go back to U.

No problem. Hopefully the U firmware will eventually upgrade to bootloader version 3. I'm kind of scared that it may never be updated because T-Mobile updated it with the July patch, and the U firmware is already at August.

When did you try doing this?
Yesterday, about 1 p.m. EST
It looks like mine has BL 3 when the U firmware comes with BL2.
It's really sad but there is no way to flash it on my device.
God, this is a little infuriating. Why is the T-Mobile variant the only one on this new version of bootloader? This T-Mobile S7 is now officially more locked down than even the Verizon or AT&T variant, that's insane.

ADB updates from server for N950U-ATT version

Thanks to @Venom0642 and @DanMc85 i was able to get updates for Note 8 AT&T version. All updates are 100% AT&T stock from servers and can be apply by ADB sideloads. I will try to keep them up to date. Some updates are released and other not, so it is yours and only your choice if you want to apply them or not. Remember there is no updates to unreleased updates and if you apply unreleased update and AT&T will go with different one then you applied, you will have to ODIN back to stock and start again. So choose wisely.
Good Luck

I got the Note 8 unlocked and flashed the att version.
The version you have here is the latest and my phone is telling me I have the latest already. Is there a fix for this? It will be a pain to have to sideload and restore every time I want to update the phone. Wonder if the unlocked phone is checking Samsung's servers and not AT&Ts. Any ideas on this? Also where do you get the update files? Thanks for any help.

For AT&T SM-N950U1 users who flash the carrier Firmware have to sideload updates...this only affects AT&T users AFAIK. All the files are in different threads in this section...you can choose to flash complete AQIA (latest) or AQH7 (original) and then sideload the update AQH7 to AQIA as found in the threads...there may be an apn setting for OTA updates to work that you can edit though....adb sideload is simple enough though.
One may try just putting the update listed in op on their internal storage and boot to recovery and select apply update...to avoid wiping

How to NOT install
Hi,
I had registered in the members app to be part of the BETA program but then - given the bugs appearing - wanted to refrain.
So I unregistered in the members app.
However, the phone already started downloading the beta. Now i was able to pause the download, but after 2 days (and 1 restart) it still shows the progress.
Any way I can securely and fully stop the download & installation of the beta?
Thanks, Moritz

You get the beta from here : https://forum.xda-developers.com/s10-plus/how-to/android-10-beta-mega-mirror-t3990851
You can also get any stock S10+ rom from https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/ and flash it your S10+ no matter where you bought it. All the S10+'s are the same no matter where you get them from. They are set up to your carrier by the Sim card installed.
I took my Verizon bought S10+ and Odin loaded U1 AT&T software so I could have an unlocked phone. Them I loaded the latest Android 10 Beta rom on it so now I have an unlocked (0 carrier bloat) S10+ on Verizon with Andoid 10 One UI2, HD calling, VOLTE and everything else they offer. Now it also is blazing fast with a long lasting battery.

Here is a forum that is the problems with the Beta. https://forum.xda-developers.com/s10-plus/how-to/bugs-oneui-2-0-android-10-beta-t3983463
I think mine works so well since I am on Verizon and don't use the apps they are having problems with.

No lag for me but I use Nova as launcher and have it tweaked for speed. I also have all the animation settings set to 0 in Developer options.
Ok thanks for the input. May give it a go

You can always Odin back to 9 but that would require a factory reset so a backup to Smartswitch or some other way would be suggested.
Yeah I'll likely do that. Even if its laggy for me, hey it's not forever is it so I'll just put up with it.

SM-G975U1 compatible One UI 2 beta update

Does anyone have an ODIN compatible update for the One UI 2 beta that would work for the US factory unlocked S10+ (SM-G975U1)? I saw a T-Mobile only update.zip, but that only works on T-Mobile locked ones.

It appears the aren't releasing it for U1 yet. As long as your csc is part of the OYN multi-csc then you can use U firmware and use the update.zip on here.

Not familiar with the term "OYN multi-csc", however I can and have flashed different carrier ODIN packages onto my US Unlocked S10+. I assume that means mine is apart of the multi-csc. Mine is "VZW/VZW/XAA", a factory unlocked s10+ bought from Samsung's website with a Verizon SIM in it.

VZW is part of it. It should work just fine then. Just make a Smart Switch backup first

If I'm currently on G975U1ES2BSIE, I assume I can't just flash that update.zip file because it says you must be coming from BSI4. Is it safe to ODIN flash the BSI4 version and then recovery flash the update.zip? Also, in a screenshot on the update.zip thread, it said the source version was G975USQS2BSI4, yet the firmware I have been using has always started with G975U1..., so can I even use the update.zip at all?

You would have to flash BSI4 U firmware via odin first then update zip after full boot. U1 beta has been delayed now untill who knows when. So basically we're stuck with bloat if we want the beta until further notice.

Thank you for reminding me about the bloat from U firmware.... ewww.... Will definitely hold out until more information about the U1 beta comes out, especially considering that someone will likely release the update.zip for it, rendering their limited beta unlimited.
I'm curious about this as well. Didn't the release the u1 beta yesterday? If so does anyone have the update.zip we could apply locally?

I'm on BSIC (thought that was the latest U1 version)
I was on BSIE and had to downgrade to BSIC in order to take the beta update. Even though I registered, wasn't sending it and as soon as I downgraded back to BSIC the beta update came through.

Hmm so I'm not able to grab it while on BSIC; any chance you have the update.zip file
I have the U1 (512 unlocked Snapdragon). I flashed the T-Mobile U image (downloaded using Frija, then flashed with Odin), and then saved the ota zip to an SD card and flashed that update via recovery. Haven't had any issues, yet. While I'm not a fan of the T-Mobile boot screen and default ringtone, the only bloat I've identified is the Name ID, T-Mobile, and Visual Voicemail apps, which all appear to be uninstallable. It also added the video call function to my dialer, which I'll probably never use but it's neat that it exists...
I say all that because you could just install the T-Mo firmware to your VZW phone and get away with a updating to the beta and uninstalling the bloatware, if you're ok with having the T-Mobile boot screen (ideally, you won't see it much anyways).
Just a thought.

Let me get home tonight and I'll extract it
The U1 version of the oneui 2.0 beta was released yesterday and apparently still being released for many users hopefully someone has the logics to make the update zip out of it and pass it along. Not everyone wants to go through completely wiping their phone and swapping unlocked firmware for a carrier one just to test the beta.

That's not how it works. You won't have tmobile bloat. The firmwares now are all inclusive so it will install bloat depending on your installed sim card. Example, I installed it on my AT&T S10+ and got AT&T bloat. If you install on your tmobile S10, you'll have tmobile bloat.

Assuming that's the case, why not just do the entire install and setup without a SIM, then plug the SIM in after it's complete?
I used that trick on the VZW Pixel and Pixel 2 and was able to avoid them force-locking the bootloader.

Between here and Reddit it's been asked several times if that works and there hasn't been a real answer yet. Yes though, that is the case. It's been that way since one of the major updates on the S8 firmware back when it was still a flagship. The bloat and carrier files it installs are carrier dependent. That's why the total download size of firmware went way up.

Im thinking thats why I wasn't ever able to join the beta. Downloading BSIC now and hopefully installing that will make it possible to officially join the U1 beta. After going back to U firmware i remember all the things that made me switch back to U1 last time lol.

Why are there separate S10+ firmware downloads for AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon which have different Home_CSC partitions if the Samsung firmware works like you say? Shouldn't all the Samsung S10+ firmware be U1 (the firmware that comes installed on the carrier free version of the S10+) if the carrier bloat is installed via the inserted SIM?

Still waiting, on verizon
If the U1 firmware is out, can I use it plus modded odin to swap my U over to U1, wipe my phone and get 11 at the same time?
I suppose, that's what I did for the beta, my device officially is U device, I swap to U1 for test the beta and when I see the One UI 3 only for U (ATT) I restore my device but no update and then I try to install the beta but just finally when install the ATID firmware to start the beta installation the update shows up. Hope that help.

I tried earlier, I flipped over to ATT CSC's (after removing sim) via UCCD/dialer menu commands and DID NOT get an OTA, checked XAA, also, got snake-eyes!
