SIM unlock Verizon VS995 for different carrier - LG V20 Questions & Answers

I have a LG V20 (model VS995) that was previously from Verizon. I switched to google Fi and my phone has never worked correctly. After months of delaying doing a full data reset as per their suggestion, I finally did it and rebuilt all of my apps but now when I go through the Google Fi activation process, it says the SIM card can not be read. I even ordered a second card just in case but I get the same error. I have tried multiple times. According to Fi support, they are saying my VS995 was never fully SIM unlocked from Verizon. Before I left Verizon, they told me their phones aren't really locked so there was nothing to do. Can anyone verify that I really don't need to unlock my phone? I have been having issues for months and now my phone has zero phone functionality. It can't send or receive calls at all. I will gladly go to a local Verizon store if needs to be SIM unlocked. I am hoping one of you has an answer as googling "VS995 unlock" beings up countless web sites with zero valuable information that actually works.
FWIW, my phone is not hacked at all.

All VS995 models come SIM-unlocked out of the box because Verizon at that time was required by law to do so (they started SIM-locking their phones again around June 2019), so there is nothing needed to do on Verizon's end to unlock the phone, and I'm not sure why the SIM card can't be read unless Google Fi gave you a Sprint SIM card, which is totally different and only works on the LS997 model. As far as I know, Google Fi's main networks are T-Mobile and Sprint. The VS995 is rather bad in reception for Fi since it has none of Sprint's LTE bands and only has LTE bands 2 and 4 for T-Mobile (lacking bands 12, 66, and 71).

Moto G4 Play XT1607 usage on all 4 US carriers? real world experience.

The Unlocked Moto G4 Play, XT1607, is suppose to work out the box on all 4 US carriers. Which means it should also work on all MVNO's too. So, what's the experience out there for those that are using it? any troubles getting it to activate? In particular, with verizon or sprint or their MVNO's? Is it passing Sprints FEC? whitelisted?
Personally, I've tested a CC XT1607. I had to get a SIM unlock code since it was locked to CC. It wont work on Sprint because its CC branded and therfore, not on sprints whitelist. It appears to work on GSM- I've tested with a freedompop global SIM and after putting in the APN, and it seems to work ok. However, I haven't been able to get it to connect to Verzion. I'm testing with an activated BOOM mobile "V" SIM, and haven't been able to get it to connect, even after calling BOOM support...
I'm on H2O Wireless using this phone, works fine. They are an MVNO of AT&T. I have an older Verizon SIM card laying around that I want to see if it will work in the XT1607 here soon
Tracfone BYOP here (GSM-ATT) on XT1607. Before CM, was a little finicky with APN settings. Though the real issue I had was when I lost my number (it ported back to my old phone and TF had to ship FOUR sim cards to fix). After putting CM in, I've noticed the cell antenna is more sensitive. It will show reception even when IP is unavailable (denoted by a black X on the signal icon; this happened during a recent power failure and the cell towers were at capacity). When there are multiple towers in area, it swaps between them constantly (2 bars -> 0 bars -> 2 bars -> etc.) but my LTE is still rock solid at about 10Mbit.
No issues w/Verizon on unlocked, rooted XT1607 with stock ROM. Dropped in SIM from Droid Mini (required adapter) and was off to the races. Only minor glitch was healthy spamming of com.phone.android has stopped FCs which was quickly rectified by clearing cached data. Voice and data operate with expected clarity and speed.

My xt1607 is working fine on Ting MVNO using their GSM side that is on the T-Mobile network. I've seen band 12 (700 MHz extended range) occasionally and VoLTE seems to be used.
I've used my XT1607 on T-mobile (briefly), AT&T MVNO (FreedomPOP), and Sprint. Also roamed in about 8 other countries in Europe and Asia via Sprint Global Roaming, and used prepaid SIMs to access 2 non-USA GSM/LTE networks.
Works great on all GSM/LTE networks.
As usual, Sprint's crappy network technology gets the short end of the stick. On stock ROM, PRL/profile updating usually works, but **non-stock ROMs cannot update it**.
If you are going to run a non-stock ROM on Sprint, **back up your EFS partitions** before flashing to a non-stock ROM; restoring them will help you fix network connectivity issues without the hassle of flashing back to stock.

US996 on sprint

I got a us996. I popped in my sim card, added an APN, and changed my imei. I got data but no mms or calls. I've searched around a bit but I couldn't find much. If anyone has a work around or knows a solution let me know.
Appreciate it
I would be surprised to see a US996 work on the Sprint network (I happen to own both LS997 ZV7 and US996 USA models). It is known to work on Verizon, but I've never heard of anyone using it on Sprint.
First, the phone's IMEI would have to be whitelisted by Sprint. You can use various Sprint IMEI checkers to verify - Ting's BYOD checker works well for this: If the IMEI is clean, then it will tell you the phone will work on their CDMA network.
And don't you need to do a specific activation process for all phones on Sprint? Just transferring a SIM card between phones is not enough.
Also, I don't think any of the US996 variants have all of Sprint's LTE bands (they seem to lack bands 26 and 41), so even if you get it to work, your LTE signal coverage won't be very good.

I just changed the IMEI to my sprint model to get the Sim card to work. I can get data but can't send MMS or make calls (besides it saying it's forwarding me to a Sprint operator). So I know I can make calls, it's just not setup right.
That's where I think the activation features of a Sprint-branded phone (hands-free activation, profile update, PRL update) come in. Without those or some magic action of a Sprint employee, you're probably out of luck. Unfortunately, there is no LS997 KDZ firmware out there; otherwise, you may have been brave enough to try to cross-flash that onto your US996.

T-Mobile SIM Unlocked OnePlus 7T Pro 5G McLaren Edition on AT&T/Sprint/Verizon

I already SIM unlocked my T-Mo McLaren 5G (and waiting the 7 days for bootloader unlock) but I don't have any other carrier SIM on hand. Can anyone test the McLaren 5G with other carriers and let us know if it is working fine/how well/how it compares to original carrier phones? (SIM Unlocked McLaren 5G of course) Thank you!
probably not much help, but my LOCKED T-Mo McLaren 5G ran a mint sim exactly like the t-mobile sim. so, t-mobile mvno's should work.
cheaper plans same 5G coverage.
My phone was granted unlock by TMobile but I don't have the TMobile unlock app . How did you unlock it

How? I tried the network unlock from settings as shown above and I get "Unlock Failed" Error Code=255
I bought the phone online and I live in Canada so I can't even make a T-Mobile account and they wouldn't do anything regarding a network unlock over the phone when I wasn't a customer.
Tried a few websites but they all say the IMEI registers as CDMA yet the phone has a SIM card slot and the specs say GSM so I'm very confused as to how to get his unlocked so I can try and use it on Bell.
mine worked on freedompop att, on mint now, same 5g as t-mobile

You should check and see if it has been blacklisted. If not you can possibly use Mint Sim. Mint Sim is an MVNO of T-Mobile which you can use without sim unlock I believe.
It will NOT work on Verizon at this time. I've spent hours on the phone with Tier 2. The farthest I got was " I filled out a form to have yours added to our DB and I'll call you back in a week either way". Needless to say, that call never came. I can get Data using my VZW SIM but no calls or texts.

Just a quick thought... Did you try installing the Google Dialer and Google Messages to see if it was the Oneplus apps preventing the calls and texts.

Unfortunately, unless the IMEI is in the VZW DB, you won't get SMS and I'm unable to make calls. I read a few people were able to make calls but no SMS/MMS or RCS messaging. From what I've read, calls should not work due to the IMEI issue. I honestly don't understand how anyone could make calls with a VZW SIM.
As of software version .25 today, Verizon CDMA-less sims now work. Previously only data came through, now talk/text/volte are all functioning. You'll need to have the SIM provisioned CDMA-less with a different CDMA-less phone before swapping the sim card in. Note that as of software version .16 however, band 13 support has been removed.

I thought 13 was the primary band for VZW LTE? If it's gone after .16, wouldn't updating to .25 be an issue?

It is their main band, but VZW has a lot of band 5 around and thick cell density so it would still be usable, just not the best experience possible. Version .13 had band 13 enabled, but I never tested .13 to see if VoLTE was working.
As of last night. Still no go for me. I had one of my VZW Sims put into another CDMA-less phone, called VZW and had them make that SIM CDMA-less. That phone worked for calls and SMS. Shut down that phone and the McLaren, swapped SIM but same problem. No calls and no texts. Called back and was again told my IMEI is not in the VZW DB.

I have a Verizon tracfone line tied to a Oneplus 7 Pro, moving that sim to the T-Mobile 5G McLaren works after a reboot for calls/text/VoLTE. Maybe something is happening on postpaid VZW causing CDMA-less to be removed when you're moving the sim, I'm not sure.
VZW finally added the 7T Pro McLaren to their DB. I put my VZW SIM in and booted it. I was able to make and take calls and send texts outbound. I called VZW and had my line setup as CDMA-LESS and started getting texts. Data is working fine.
I tested a Verizon prepaid SIM. It connected to LTE and data, SMS and phone call all worked with no problem.
I'm on build 10.0.25.HD61CB
I've never contacted Verizon about this and I'm not provisioned in any special way. When I ordered the Verizon service I signed up with a BYO Pixel XL.
I have to pay my t-mobile one plus 7T pro mc claren phone completely off before I can get it sim unlocked by t-mobile right? Thanks In advance for any information on this topic. Thanks!!!

Fresh out-of-box MotoE4 XT1766 worked w/new Tello GSM Sim UNTIL last in long-stream of Motorola updates

We were sent Tello Sims to 'upgrade' our Tello service on UNLOCKED Motorola E4 XT1766 phones Tello sold us 2 yrs ago. The new Sims HOSED our cell service and now our accounts can't use old Sims.
I understand this whole mess is the result of recent mergers & transitioning from CDMA to GSM...but Tello's on-line system erroneously approved our phones for the switch, sent us Sims & Tech Support helped guide us thru failed activation process. Tello offers no additional help & insists we need to buy new phones. Forums hint at some sorta voodoo by Sprint network (that Tello previously used) to disable the GSM radio in the phones (Seems PLENTY Unethical of Sprint).
Fortunately, I had a spare E4 that never had ANY Sim in it...put the new Tello Sim in and it provisioned without issue...GSM, VOLTE, GoogleVoice...everything was working fine. Hidden Service Testing menu confirmed it was using GSM. I hesitantly applied the seemingly endless string of Motorola 'security' updates, one every few days, and it seems the LAST one has now HOSED service on the new phone (that NEVER had Sprint Sim in it)...now saying "Invalid Sim Card" with previously working Tello GSM Sim. (Seems REALLY Unethical of Motorola)
So the MotoE4 IS technically compatible with Tello GSM (thru T-Mobile) UNTIL its disabled by Sprint Sim OR something in Motorola updates. A Hard Factory Reset doesn't remedy the issue.
These MotoE4's with all fitting accessories perfectly meet our needs & none of our crew wants larger, new phones.
I see plenty of settings & info in Hidden Service Menus...but nothing like a 'switch' or flag for enabling GSM Radio.
COULD a custom ROM overcome whatever the Motorola updates did to the new MotoE4 and/or overcome how Sprint disables the GSM radio in our Old MotoE4s?

How can I carrier unlock this phone? Trying to see if it works on TMO

So I have a Sprint G6 with me, no sprint account and trying to see how to carrier unlock this to use on TMO. I tried putting my sim card in registered to TMO since I read that since the merger you can apparently do this, but it didn't work.
What am I missing?
I just activated an old LG G6 I have yesterday on my Sprint account(trying to see if they'll offer me a free phone on this line,no bill credits.)
Anyways, when I go to Settings/General/System Updates there is a UICC Unlock tab. When I click it, it checks the network, then says "Your Device has been unlocked to support any inserted any inserted UICC." I may have unlocked it years ago. If yours was never unlocked when it was active on Sprint, then it probably CAN Not be unlocked unless activated on a Sprint account. Do you know anyone with Sprint that can temporarily activate the phone to Unlock it?
