Please forgive me if this is a trivial or already asked question, I am a switcher from iOS and on the market for a new Android peripheral.
The matter is I like the Mate (right display size, dual size, right memory...) but I just would like a stock Android experience (at the present time I use a nexus 6).
Is it possibile to install google applications such as the dialer (which is mostly need for native voip)?
Should I change app launcher or, instead, root the device?
If it's the latter, can you root the Mate 8 and install a as stock version of Android?
What happens, then, for future upgrades? Are you going to lose some features?

I know this is not the answer you want but I find the EMUI absolutely wonderful and have no intention to go to stock. EMUI has a uniformity and consistency of iOS.
Yes there are Google apps you can install like the launcher or Google SMS app and Gmail app etc.

also, by using a different launcher like nova, google or nexus u can tweak ur mate 8 to look like stock android. especially in combination with a theme

What launcher do you guys prefer these days? I've been sticking with Nova for ages myself but it's always interesting to see what others are using. There might be something worth switching to.

Since you are talking about launchers, a little bit of offtopic. I am using nova launcher and when leaving the configuration with the home button, the app remembers the position in the nova menu, it is very annoying and it did not happen before. Any ideas?? Thanks
Smart launcher 5. It's actually unique. Nova prime is nice but it's like all the others, dock on bottom, apps and widgets above.

CPL launcher
Nova Launcher Prime is good and my goto launcher. Square Home 3 is a nice Windows 10 launcher. I also recommend Smart Launcher 5. It's handy they way it automatically sorts your apps into categories.
I think that depends on the personal taste of each one... I prefer 100x Lawnchair 2 over Nova.

I'm also very happy with Poco launcher. I could only last a couple hours in MIUI without an app drawer so I installed the beautifully compatible Poco Launcher and looked no further. The updates have only made it better (night mode, MIUI 10 icon animations), can lock the phone with a double tap, great overall.
How does Nova compare to Poco on the Note 7?
