My hero seems to be a bit slower than usual. I stared up astro file manager and used their process tool to show that com.smithmicro.DM is running at around 70%. Why would this process be using so much CPU and is there any way to alleviate the cpu processing being done?
what does com.smithmicro.DM do anyways? I mean, if it's nothing too important, you could always remove it.
i dont know, but i thought i read this was to be on the ignore list as it manages the data between your phone and your SD card.
I pulled the battery on my phone, and so far it looks a bit better.
it's causing my update PRL/Profile to crash and cause weird bugs (i.e. PRL showing 26762 or something random until a profile update/crash).

From the sound of this info, it seems that the app probably isn't totally necessary. App name coming soon. Do a nandroid, remove the apk, and reboot. If nothing is wrong, then we know we can remove it safely. Do some testing, like download a file from the internet to your SD card. That would be the only thing that concerns me about this app. App name coming soon, again.

If you kill the process "com.smithmicro.DM" you will no longer receive over the air firmwear updates. The "DM" stands for device management, and I know for a fact that HTC uses smith micro for their FOTA updating.

Wow, LG really knows what they are doing with their apps. And RIGHT on time too. 60 days after launch. I wonder if this will continue. Also, seeing how the last round of apps still remain, here's hoping any new apps won't replace the old ones.
I am really not regretting buying and keeping this phone after all, even if the buttons are still a bit wobbly. If LG comes up with a phone with an IPS panel like they are doing with their Tegra2 based Android phones, but with WP7 on board, then they will have another customer...again.
PS: The total worth of the apps is around 30 dollar US...Respect LG, respect.

Well here is the bad news. After installing all the apps, I have discovered a sad truth. Not all the apps are up to date. The corresponding paid version in the Marketplace for an app, let's see Weave, is several releases ahead. Same with Cocktail flow. This was my initial fear as well. LG is basically offering these apps AS IS and probably will not update them past the 60-days offer. If the apps are not tied to the original developer, then basically we are screwed with no updates, and have to stick with out version 1.0 apps from LG. Nothing against LG, but if you promise something, then do it right.
You're right. This issue should be brought up to LG if we want a chance of getting updates. They probably won't do anything about it unless people make it known that it is important.

Do you know what the plan is after the 60 day period? I assume they'd be removed from the app store, which in turn probably means no more updates. hopefully you have info to the contrary.

Thank you for the information. If only LG was so transparent in communicating with consumers. Cocktail Flow is one of the few apps in the marketplace that is just amazing to LOOK at, and even more impressive to use. I had it purchased before LG put it up. Amazing, and has gotten me some praise on my mixing formulas nowadays (Hehe). My question for you is whether the updates will stop after the 60 days, or will it be tied directly to your actual app...because if it is the former, that is kinda...a downer...
What happend to this apps? Two weeks ago they were available to download in LG marketplace, but now they arent.

+1 My device was reset after entering a pin incorrectly and now that I am trying to reinstall, these apps listed at the top of this thread are no longer on the marketplace. What is going on? Older LG apps are showing, newer ones are showing but not all of those are there:

I know some of the apps said "60 days of free download for lg handset owners" so they probably took them down because it's been 60 days.
This is what I was afraid of. As of now, the free apps that were off Marketplace (not the LG developed ones) are no longer available, possibly new ones are coming.
Two matters to think about:
1- If you reset your phone, there is no way to install the apps again, even if you downloaded it before. This is due to the fact that the xap files are not stored locally on your computer or anywhere when syncing with Zune. iTunes stores an app on the synced computer no matter what, even if the app has been removed from App Store.
Basically, if you have the apps, don't delete them, until someone figures out (or at least shares with us) how to extract xap files.
2- If you have the apps right now on your phone, then the apps are STUCK with their current version, probably forever. For example, if Weave updates their app to version 2.5 or above, you are stuck with 2.3 ANYWAYS. I voiced this concern early on if you look back at the earlier posts in this thread.
So, we should either petition LG to bring back the apps, and disallow new installs, which I believe has more to do with the Marketplace's structure than LG. OR, get Microsoft to tie our apps to the Marketplace equivalents.
Also, Microsoft should adopt Apple's model of backing installed apps through its Zune software.

OK. So are there other ways to grab the XAP files off the LG phones using TouchXplorer or Advanced Explorer? This way we won't need to wait until LG or MSFT figures out what they are going to do?
So far, I have not had any success with either of the above tools, but that could just be me, or maybe there is a device specific tool for the LG Optimus line of phones?

I think it should be implemented in MarketPlace. Normally when you buy app, you have it assign to live acount. To solve it, they need to make an option to assign a free application OR make an option to add a "prepayed" (or free for some group of users) option to some application and some device id (ie from LG). IMHO MarketPlace architecture does not allow any of this solutions now.
My biggest hurdle right now is that I have to hard reset my phone, which is the only solution to get rid of the 8000FFFF error in Zune Update. This means I won't be able to back it up on my PC. So somehow I need to grab the apps before that. Heh.

Interestingly, some of the apps we downloaded from the LG app store ARE actually tied to our live accounts, which you can check using the app purchase history in the Zune client. However, the apps listed are ONLY the permanent, LG developed or endorsed ones (eg. QR Reader, Metro Scanner, etc).
None of the Marketplace pulled ones are there. So there is no record of it whatsoever.
It is as if the developers just handed LG their xap files and LG submitted them (which is almost exactly what happened), and then when you install, it is like installing a homebrew xap...
So I won't feel too bad for pulling the xap out of the phone (when I figure out how).
UPDATE: Upon further inspection, it seems the 60-day offer apps WERE tied to the live accounts, but completely disappeared after being pulled from the Marketplace. Something similar happened with Twin Blades (the zombie killer nun game), which I still have installed, but there are no trace of it on my account.
I read about the Twin Blades game and it was pulled out of Marketplace supposedly because it was too violent and Microsoft had a no Mature game policy, that's what I think I read. Mango will supposedly have a rating system and supposedly we will start seeing more mature games.
Although I've read that Twin Blades will be released soon with the blood change to green.

In case you guys don't check the main WP7 forums on here, the Microsoft Nodo update is officially available and working. I am updating my phone right now as we speak.
All you have to do is plug your phone into your PC and use the Zune software to update. It should automatically detect and ask for you to update.

I got some responses back from both the Microsoft Windows Phone Support and Dell Support. Microsoft says that they don't know when we will get it. Only that it will be before the end of the month. Dell support said that they don't know either.
This just boils down to the fact that for us here in the states, and as far as the Dell Venue Pro is concerned, the update release is in T-Mobile's hands.
I just want to know if it will fix the problems with wi-fi connections.

The user needs to install Wireshark and capture the log for Microsoft servers and send me the same. I can then figure out the direct path to the download.

Any idea if any future hacks would allow us to backup our text messages?
Why is it that we have to wait for T-Mobile to (eventually) give the ok for an update? Why didn't MS just make it so we plug our phones in, hit Zune update and everything does its thing?
Reading the Twitter updates about Euro T-Mobile pushing the update at the end of April is a little disheartening. There's no telling when US T-Mobile will push the update...
While it has been rumored and feared practically since the operating system's creation, one of the nightmare scenarios for some unlucky Android users has finally become very real. Japan's second largest mobile carrier, KDDI, has gone where no carrier has dared before and has begun disguising advertisements as system notifications on their Android devices.
It seems that an app bundled with KDDI devices is the cause of the controversial ad system. The "au one market" is a secondary market application that comes with most of the smartphones on the carrier's service. This newest evil addition came in the form of an update which prompted the user with two warnings.

Check if you have Easy Mp3 Download or DroID3Tagger. One of them should be the Ads source.
Install Airpush Detector or Addons Detector from the market to find the offending app.
Nothing root+delete offending app can't solve.
That said, still sucks, they'll probably end any warranty or whatever services they may offer if they find out. I guess you can still delete any traces of root and send it to samsung. They probably couldn't care less if you uninstalled some carrier app.
I don't mind ads at all while they aren't intrusive. I understand their purpose and their importance. But being randomly interrupted by some notification ad is the worse kind of interruption, as useless as it gets, not to mention the unsolicited data traffic and extra battery drain. I can even see them going a notch up and create random popups out of that you need to dismiss. Now, i like android the best of all mobile operative systems, but i draw a line here. If google ever enforced this at system level with no way around, i'd leave android completely.
I agree, I guess all those stuff is from carriers and not from Google so that I think it won't be difficult delete it.

Yes, I seem to be getting similar notifications, I can't for the life of me work out what app they are related to...
If I recall correctly, the Priv's OS has some application that checks the integrity of the OS, thus prevents rooting.
And can't we simply flash a new ROM which would be just a clean Android? Maybe unlocking the bootloader would be easier than cat-and-mouse play with the real BB Android.
no it does not exist and the drivers for some hw on the device to work like izat and keyboard won't work, also the priv kernel is also secure along with bootloader so if i see a custom or AOSP rom for this device i will be like on twilight zone
There have been lost opportunities here and there but BlackBerry has been active on patching all security holes and that is why is important to the company that a root has to be impossible or this effort has been all for nothing and they became the newest "Blackphone" (now that rooting was unfortunate for a device sold as a "secure" phone).
I know that there are audience in Android just for root capacity but not everybody are in a "real" need for it.
I like that the BlackBerry Launcher leave most of AOSP element, except for icons and notifications sounds.
Personally I only ever use root for CPU control and ability to delete ANY app I deem fit, and on my previous SGS5 that meant all those heart rate and other nonsense apps that ran in background and chunked the battery to no end.
Gonna assume the Priv then has no CPU management ability due to the lack of root, correct?

Correct. Though, they do use the interactive governor, and while I would kind of like to underclock the CPU a bit to deal with overheating, the default CPU management isn't too shabby. And since the Priv is almost completely stock, removal of unwanted apps is minimal, and all the carrier apps I had weren't system apps, so I was able to actually uninstall them, and what BB apps I didn't care for, I simply disabled. Learning that life without root isn't so bad on the Priv.
I just want root for Adblock for both YouTube and Chrome. I don't care if it's just a temp, as long as it lets me update the Filters for AdAway I am alright with it, I'll deal with the youtube ads.

Well, you could use Firefox. It supports extensions on Android, and ublock works nicely to kill ads, though I find functionally that Chrome runs infinitely better on Android than Firefox does, so your kilometerage may vary.

Not true! The Priv is full of bloatware that you can only deactivate but not uninstall (Yahoo Finances, for example). And some of those apps will stay active and make the phone unusable despite being 'deactivated'. Like BB Hub. I deactivated it from the start and just recently saw that it still had several permissions (location, contacts, messages, calendar etc). So I revoked those permissions. Now it constantly pops up and wants permissions. I can't even add a contact without granting these permissions. Annoying as hell. It's ridiculous that BB regard themselves as a secure company with secure smartphones (which was rebutted several years ago) that emphasize on privacy but when it comes to their own apps, it can't get any more privacy invading. I so hate BB!
So I'm waiting for
a) another producer to make an Android phone with a hardware keyboard or
b) someone to make root for the Priv happen so that I can install a ROM of my choice.

I wouldn't call it full of bloat. Full of bloat is what Samsung has on offer. Yes, there are some bloatware apps that you can't uninstall, but they disable just fine. Sounds to me like your hub got re-enabled, mine has been disabled since day one, and still has no permissions, and doesn't harass me about anything.

Interesting. Did you do any of the BB OTA updates (mine's running the most recent version, 6.0.1, security patch from August 5th)?
The Hub is still deactivated, but it doesn't seem to 'care' about that. I activated and deactivated it again to no effect.
So you're telling me when you go into Settings -> Apps -> BB Hub -> Permissions, all six permissions (calendar, camera, contacts, storage, phone and BB Productivity Suite) are turned-off?
I'm pretty sure I had these turned off when I got the phone in May. So maybe some of the OTA updates changed something about it. Unless you're running the same version that I am.
Oh and the fullscreen pop-up says Blackberry Hub+, maybe this is a new thing then?
And yes, other manufacturers may have more Bloatware. But at least there you can uninstall them or flash a different ROM. And all the BB services like BB Hub count as Bloatware for me, too.
Maybe I should sell my Priv and get a S6 Edge Plus (again). I still got the keyboard cover for that model and it's flashable, although Samsung also makes it hard for the users. But the keyboard cover is not back-lit and the phone is even bigger than the Priv (already too big for my taste).
EDIT: Ah wait! I just saw that the 'Blackberry Services' were activate, so I deactivated it and revoked all its permissions and now the pop up is gone. I definitely had this deactivated before the update, but as with the other BB apps, you have to deactivate them again after each update. Guess I just overlooked this one. Yay!

I'm on the MM beta program, so that might also make some kind of diffeerence, but I stay up to date with patches, and haven't had to disable anything again. Not sure how it happened in your case, but glad that you got it sorted.
Another thing I do feel I need to bring up, this is also a BB phone made for BB people, so it does make sense that they include the software suite that their fans have grown to love. Sure, those of us who couldn't care less about BB's software, and just wanted in on their amazing hardware prowess, will find these apps bothersome, but if nothing else, visually they left Android alone, and for that, I can't not happily thank them. They could have given us something like a BB10 inspired touchwiz, could you imagine? Lol.
Yeah that's true and I'm also happy that they didn't over-customize their ROM. It's just hard to accept any deviation when you've been used to having full freedom on all kinds of custom ROMs for the last ten years.
Strange though that you didn't have to re-deactivate the apps after the updates. Then I guess I'll look into the beta program (had seen it before but didn't mind).

No, I don't I want to Restore it to Factory Default - I want to DISABLE it. I do understand that the PRIV's supposed to be secure & yes that's a Good Thing. I also understand that most users LIKE to be kept informed. I am NOT 'social' - Let ME decide what I want to be informed about & when. I didn't even get a choice of what subscription (?) I wanted (which is NONE). There's a bunch of apps that I can only Restore to Factory default. That, too me, means I CANNOT Remove or Disable them. I call that bloatware. Un-wanted bloatware. If I could remove them without Rooting, then I would not be looking to do so! I have an 'Essential Tremour' & I NEED a physical keyboard or I'd look elsewhere.

Rooting a PRIV appears to be dicey, with no firm info from Oct/2016, onwards, regarding 'safe' rooting of my device. I'm running 6.0.1 & Bell is my provider. If it makes any difference, I do not have 'Secure Start-Up' turned-on. As noted, if I didn't need a physical keyboard, I probably would not have chosen this make/model. Guess I'll live with it & keep looking for ways to put my phone on diet (& the battery barely lasts a day, unfortunately). I basically use it as a PDA - no games, few calls, occasional checking notes & calendar - it should last longer.

In order to disable some of the apps on this device they must be restored to factory default. I have hangouts and BBM disabled. My battery life is pretty good. You have to figure out what's killing yours. Do you use a case that has the preview window on the front?
On non rootable devices I use AdGuard to have a firewall and adblocker. It works by routing everything through a local vpn server. Great concept and working fine for me.
