Just wanting to make sure before I unlock my bootloader and install a custom rom - Xperia Z2 General

Hello,
I used this tool to root my device, install recovery, and backup TA.
Before unlocking the bootloader, I just want to make sure that I'm going to do the right thing.
1. Unlock bootloader using fastboot
2. Restore TA partition to get DRM keys back.
3. In TWRP wipe dalkvik, system and data
4. Install custom rom by flashing in TWRP.
5. Flash magisk zip to root device.
Is this right?
Thank you!!

You need to backup TA partition before unlocking bootloader. If you restore your TA backup then bootloader well be locked again.

Ok, thanks. I have already backed up the TA partition.
Is there any way to restore the DRM keys without relocking bootloader?

You can do it in stock rom and stock custome rom. I'm using this tool https://forum.xda-developers.com/crossdevice-dev/sony/poc-real-trim-instead-drm-fix-t3552893 it makes your device acting as locked bootloader with full drm function.

OK thanks.
However, I will install a new Android 10 ROM.
Is there any other way?

I think you don't need it in android 10

OK then.
Are the rest of the steps alright?

Before installing android 10 make sure you have flash 291 ftf first
1- backup TA
2- unlock bootloader
3- flash twrp for android 10 with fastboot
4- wipe system, data and cash
5- flash rom
6- flash gapps (optional)
7- flash magisk then reboot (some roms needs to reboot before install magisk)

Backup existing Data after fresh install of TWRP before ROOT

Hello,
I have an S7Edge and looking to flash it. I am currently in Nougat 7.0 and would like to backup my data before proceeding with the root.
I have flashed the phone with TWRP but when following this tutorial: https://forum.xda-developers.com/s7...overy-official-twrp-hero2lte-3-0-0-0-t3334084
People say that you have to format the Data Partition in order to proceed with the installation of SuperSu and NO Dm verity.
Is there a way to backup my phone data [w or w/o TWRP] before ROOTING my phone with TWRP (format data partition to decrypt, install no dm verity and install super su)? This is so after my phone is rooted, I can restore all the apps, pictures, etc.
Thank you for the help! :fingers-crossed:

Hi,
Thank your forwarding me to your thread. I think I figured out a way to fully back it up with the following steps:
1) If you are in Nougat, downgrade to 6.0.1
2) Root your phone by flashing CF-Auto-Root in Odin (it should not wipe any data)
3) Once phone is rooted, you can backup your phone with TitaniumBackup or Flashfire
4) Save the backup in your sd or other external
5) Update phone with official or custom Nougat FW
6) Root phone via custom recovery (TWRP), will have to format all your data
7) One phone fully booted up and rooted, restore from backup with TitaniumBackup or Flashfire
Let me know how it goes

Unable to OTA or flash update for OP5

Hi, a while back I managed to flash the Open Beta 3 for the OP5 but I ended up losing my files because of encryption.
Anyways, I'm not able to OTA or dirty flash any updates. I've tried both stable OOS 5.0.2 and the Open Beta 5 updates.
This is the message I get: https://i.imgur.com/wigXV3f.png
unless you relock your bootloader you won't be able to update. i tried everything. make sure you backup your data before you relock bootloader beacause this process will wipe everything.
cmd code to lock bootloader - fastboot oem lock

Yeah that's really annoying, that's what happened the first time when I lost all my data.
What steps do you recommend for backing up? I have Titanium pro. So I would basically have to backup, relock, wipe, flash, root and restore?

OTA Installation fails after restoring STOCK TWRP backup

Hi. I have a Moto G Plus US variant XT1644. I did a clean backup (stock ROM) when I was on NPJS25.93-14.7-3 (boot, system and data).
After that I installed many custom ROMs, all of which caused my phone to drain battery and heat up so I decided to go back to stock by restoring my backup.
After I restored my backup I instantly received a new update via OTA (build NPJS25.93-14.7-5). So in order to install it "officially" I grabbed a stock recovery.img (in this forum) and flashed it before tapping on INSTALL so that everything keeps unmodified before applying the update. But when it reboots and tries to install the update I get a message "Error!".
Please any help would be much appreciated.
1)When you took the TWRP backup, do you remember if swipe to allow modifications was allowed in TWRP? If so, then the system partition in your backup might be flagged as read write, which would prevent the OTA from flashing.
2)Is the recovery from the same build as NPJ25.93-14.7-3?
3)Do you have a custom logo.bin to hide the bootloader warning?

I think he can flash the 14.7 US Retail without deleting the Data Partition to get back to Stock and then do the OTA updates.
He can check this thread out:

1) I definitely took the backup after allowing modifications so this is probably why.
2) yes
3) no

Yeah, I´ve been following that thread. I will try to do that and try to make clean backups (without allowing modifications). BTW how should I make a backup of the recovery and bootloader with TWRP ? Thanks.

You don't have to flash TWRP, just boot to it. Use the command fastboot boot twrp-3.1.1.0-athene.img and keep it read only. Make a backup of the system and boot. Root with ElementalX and Magisk. Then use Flashify to backup recovery, if you have not flashed TWRP.

Is there any way to root without losing everything?

As the titles says. I don't want to configure everything again
Yes
Btw u need unlocked bootloader for this
Make sure you have done it already

yes
Seems to be like deadlock
Do as full as possible backup of your current system, apps, data.
Export it to external storage.
Unlock the boot-loader. /≥168hrs/
Install the same firmware.
Root your phone.
Restore the backup.

Why to install the same firmware?
After unlocking bootloader, he'll already get a clean system...

Because for me it always is better to start as clean as possible.
