How to enable/force Always-On VPN and prevent VPN Start-Up failure? - Nexus 10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I use AdGuard in Local VPN mode and no matter which version of AdGuard I use, VPN eventually disconnects or fails to start after device reboot, but that only happens on my brother's Nexus 10 tablet with the latest update (Android 5.1.1, I think). AdGuard FAQ lists this problem:
Why a VPN can not be started on Android 5?
There are two known bugs of Android 5 which may break a VPN start-up. The only solution is to reboot your device.

Would rooting Nexus 10 and installing a custom ROM fix the issue of VPN Start-Up failure? Is there a way to enable/force Always-On VPN in a custom Nexus 10 ROM? Always-On VPN option exists in newer Android versions, but I can't find it in the latest official Nexus 10 (Android 5.1) options... AdGuard requires Android 5.0 or newer. I also can't find an option to disable Battery Optimization in Android 5.0/5.1.1, which could be the cause of the problem...

Help Setting up Open VPN on Android???

I have a home server, running Ubuntu 12.04 LTS with Amahi. It has OpenVPN support and the Open VPN server is infact working, according to the Amahi dashboard on Amahi's website (not my local server).
I have two Android devices that I would like to connect to my OpenVPN server, one is my Verizon Galaxy S4 (running the Hyperdrive rom). The other is my Nexus 10 running the latest Cyanogenmod Nightly.
I have followed this tutorial, but there isn't an OpenVPN setting in either device's Network settings menu. Does anyone have a good how to on setting up OpenVPN for Android?
Does anyone have a guide for this? I have searched quite a bit and haven't had much luck in figuring this out.

If you did not add VPN support during the install OpenVPN will not work. I just re-flashed Hyperdrive RLS 9.1 safestrapped on my VZW S4 and upon adding that option during the aroma install - OpenVPN started to work. I unfortunately wanted to do a restore from my old one (without the vpn support option) because I had everything setup perfectly. Is there a way to later add the VPN support that the aroma installer takes care of during initial setup?
I think you can dirty flash, since it's the same rom and same version.
I did select VIN support, but that doesn't have OpenVPN support.

Pretend another Android SDK?

Hello,
I want to use an App called Untis on my Android 7.0 device. The problem is, that untis goes trough several servers and the server I need blocks "due to security reasons regarding SSL" Android 7.0. So is there any possibility to pretend an Android 7.1 SDK so I can login to Units?
I have a rooted SM-G928F.
I hope this thread is in the right category.
