I am getting a cracking and electrical buzzing sound when listening through headphones. Some times all the audio is lost and I get a very loud and un hearable buzz. I thought there may be a problem with the Type C to 3.5mm jack, so I tried using other dongle but the device says that it does not support the connected audio cable. (It is OnePlus cable).

After 1 week using this phone, my top speaker is broken already, i thought it's a software problem but the problem is still here after i hard reset my phone, no sound is coming out from the top speaker anymore. It is so weird for it to happen especially on a brand new phone.

While the inbuilt Speaker is excellent (best i have ever tested) the problem lies with:
1.Lack of headphone Jack.
2.No inbuilt DAC to drive out through USB Type C normal
Type C to 3.5mm won't work it has to have a DAC built in
which causes more problems such as lower bit rate as
for higer bit rate you need to purchase a adapter which has a DAC with higher bit rate converter as in-box one ships with 24bit which is quite okay(32bit is better) but the price is quite high if you damage it.
3. The DAC situation causes another problem of humming sound when you're near high magnetic field/electric field such as loudspeakers - high tension electric wires as this interferes with DAC.

Any sound mods available to further benefit from the ROG 3's excellent speakers?
Viper4Arise (2.5.0.5) was brilliant on my OP7T Pro.
I would be very interested to get V4A (Arise) on ROG3 if possible - tried a Magisk flashable .zip but unfortunately did not install.
The latest V4A FX via Magisk unfortunately is just not the same quality.

I almost had the same problem, I took the phone to the store I brought it from and then I found out that it was the dongle's fault, Then I was given a Pixel Dongle and it works just fine now, Oneplus dongles are only for oneplus phones that dont have headphone jacks and it doesnt work on other phones, so try out a pixel one or research a bit on headphone dongles that would support every device ^^

Speakers are working perfectly for me. Never tried the USB-C to jack as I can use my Corsaire vengeance 2000 with a USB-C to usb a OTG adaptor and the wireless dongle of my PC headphone. And I don't see where the lack of a jack is a problem when we have 2 USB-C and an adaptor given with the phone. The speakers of this phone are incredible, much better than any small wireless speakers I ever tried (smaller than a jbl flip wireless speaker). There is an option that allow louder sound, it make sound much stronger but loose the bassy feeling.
In game the speakers are enough to enjoy a very good gaming experience. I use my headphone only when I need not to make noise.
I enjoy this phone every way possible and the sound is one of the best thing in this phone.

V4A FX 2.5.0.5 working much better than latest version.
Speaker volume crisp & louder.

Best audio experience I've had to date on a mobile phone.
This was expected as Youtube reviews said as much.
Audio also seems better via bluetooth speakers, coming from my OnePlus 7T. Placebo affect, maybe.
Don't have cable headphones, so can't comment on whether they work ok or not.
5 star rating.

I'm coming from a Mate 9 and Axon 7, so those are the most recent devices I have to compare to my ZenFone 4 Pro.
In general, the ZenFone is definitely louder than my Mate 9's dual speakers. Mainly, voices are much louder and clearer on the ZFone. I'm one of those people in the minority who give speakerphone loudness/clarity #1 priority in a phone evaluation. I listen to music out of my speakers all throughout the house and have Voxer conversations constantly working out in my shop. Headphone and bluetooth speakers aren't a valid option for me.
One thing I will say is that my Mate 9 seems to be better in the mid range/higher bass section than the ZPhone. I'm still playing with the EQ settings on the ZFone, but I think the Mate 9 is a just a bit better here. The ZFone's speakers can distort a bit at max volume with certain EQ settings set high.
Overall, not on the level of the newest U11 boomsoud, but better than my Mate 9, and WAY better than the Axon 7. I don't care what anybody says, the Axon 7's speakers were incredibly underwhelming. My Mate 9 put it to shame on sound quality and volume.
+ Quite loud!
+ Doesn't easily distort on high volumes
+ Uses earpiece speaker for stereo playback
+/- no true stereo speaker set-up
+/- earspeaker has got different frequency response than speakerphone, so the stereo image ain't very pretty. But at least they tried.
+/- pretty 'eh' midrange and absent low-range, like on most phones

compared to the z3compact it can get a lot louder. it sounds more full, like you are listening with your headphones in. tested with a youtube video called: music sound test for high end system hd version. but the bass is lacking (but then again it is a phone)
The speakers are good but I want to address the headphone socket controversy. I was unhappy about losing the headphone socket but since using it, the dongle hasn't been an issue for me anymore. its tiny and easy to forget its there when listening to music. I get some good bass from both speakerphone and the earbuds and being more of a music listener than a gamer or movie watcher,, sound quality is a big deal for me.
So give this video a listen and tell me what you all think of the sound from both the speakers and using the dongle and earbuds. i'd like to hear everyone's opinion.

The speaker quality with music is ok, nothing great. BUT the quality when using speakerphone during a call is horrible. It's like someone turned the bass all the way down and the treble all the way up. Sounds hollow and tinny and crackles. Not sure if it's my particular unit or a software issue. Unfortunately the equalizer in the sound settings only has any effect for music and not for calls.

Unfortunately P20 doesn't have stereo speaker like Pro version and sound is just standard and average and nothing special.

For me it's sufficient. If I want more I hook it up to my jbl charge 3.
Sound coming out of the single speaker is kind of thin but clear and loud enough for talking head videos and games. Bass is almost completely lacking, but hey... Use headphones for music.
Loud enough, but muffled sound (low clarity). The Honor 10 even with single grill has better clarity in my opinion. The only real downside of P20 sadly.
I have to disagree with everyone here and say I believe the speaker to be very good. I've owned all the latest flagships including P20 pro, s9, iPhone X, one plus 6.
The speaker in my opinion is very good for a single speaker. It's as loud if not louder than many and the depth and range of sound is good .
Obviously stereo speakers would be nice but this does not do bad for a single speaker.

Do you suppose that I have a defective phone since even without comparison to another phone (such as the Honor 10), I can tell the speaker sounds relatively unclear and muffled, especially in low-medium volume.

Hi guys, can someone provide a little review of the speakers? Curious how the perform. I see it has dual speakers, do they sound balanced? Bassy or tinny? How is sound effected when it's on charge, given the usb port is the speaker!
Cheers
Tested in store

Speakers sound good, i feel the bass in them..But not the loudest.. With the charger in it just sounds a bit muffled but its not bad
i would like to know how loud sound in headphones is> huawei phones normally fall short in loudness in heaphones
I would like to know how is it compared to Samsung Galaxy S9+ or Note 9. Does it have Dolby Atmos settings?

Yes it does have Dolby Atmos as does the p20 and p20 pro.
I'm more interested in the headphone output where Huawei phones are normally dire.
But as it uses usb-C, the right sound quality should lie in the interested dac on the headphones, that also goes for usb to headphone jack, it lies in the dongles dac.
I use with the USB-C dongle and Sennheiser HD 4.30G, the sound is very powerful.
My Mate 20 Pro shows a crackling symptomatic whenever i do sth. that would emit a sound.
Even with the speaker disabled (vol. on 0)!
How-To:
1) Get in a quiet location & Turn down the media volume to 0 (mute)
2) Open any audio playing app (Telegram, Whatsapp, Spotify, Youtube etc.)
3) Press your ear against the USB-C charging port (if you hear some faint whitenoise coming out of it, wait until its gone. If you dont hear anything continue with 4)
4) With the phone still muted perform an action that would trigger a sound from within the application (play video / music, or send a message)
5) You should hear an audible *POP* sound coming from the speakers.
// If you cant hear it try this:
A) Get an audio file between 50-100hz and play this after you completed steps 1-3
(I tried toggling mono sound too)
If you still didnt hear anything i need to RMA my unit :S
Expected behaviour:
- The audioIC should not power up if the volume is 0.
- No crackling on normal audio playback.
Kind regards
Although the speaker is inside the USB C Charging port, it's still outputting loud and clear noise. Definitely can distinguish if you're listening to a song and then you put in the charging cable, however it's one of those things where if you started the song with the charging cable plugged in, then you wouldn't notice a difference unless you were severely autistic.
Overall, very nice speakerphone but not perfect. Would have preferred the speaker grill.
Only just picked up the device today after letting family member use my p20 pro... Yup it's all clear and doesn't sound too tinny but only gripe is the volume feels like it's a bit low even at max.. quality is pretty good and on par with majority if not better In my opinion that is..
gsmarena review is up, speakers are up to no good compared to the likes of Samsung and Apple quality

Audio output thru speakerphone when doing video calls s terrible! Seems that the other party is whispering at max volume.

Well.. it's dual speaker, the bottom speaker is loud and clear but, the top speaker isn't that loud. So, it doesn't really give stereo experience

Have you changed the speaker settings with the wizard? Give that a go! I've seen a reviewer change his, and after the change, he liked the way it sounded.

Exactly, i increased all those pointers in custom Equalizer. Omg...now its more louder and the outdoor sound is much more louder. Loving it more
How does this "tweak" compare to the ROG Phone II's supposed amazing front facing speakers?
Hey guys, I was wondering if that stereo speaker setup(?) really has a good effect for listening to music compared to a front facing stereo speaker setup like the Axon 7?
