Default app and notification settings being ignored - OPPO Reno Z Questions & Answers

Color OS v.6
Been wrestling with some really infuriating problems with this phone since i bought it 4 months ago.
Default apps are ignored when clicking links via Chrome or Google search - if I select Waze as open by default for maps, and select DO NOT OPEN for Google maps, it will always open Google maps when I click a map or directions. If I select do not open for YouTube and either always open or always ask for newpipe or YouTube vanced, it will always open YouTube links in YouTube. It just completely ignores the settings
Opening via Firefox will work sort of, but for some reason FF have added a little 'open in app' button step so you have to load the web page for YouTube then select the android button for it to bring up the select app dialog, so it's rubbish and frankly a deal breaker. Also this doesn't work for directions, neither Maps or Waze are options for directions, bizarrely.
Another thing thats frustrating is that it forgets notification settings. If I set a notification as unimportant, like a battery usage alert or WhatsApp web is open, it will appear again an hour later.
Does anyone else get these issues? You could argue the first one is a chrome/google issue, but i have never had this problem on other androids. My OnePlus works fine for example
If anyone has a solution to these, I would be grateful for hear it. At the moment I am done with Color OS weirdness and considering a custom rom (if one exists)
Edit: Actually I can't get it to open any app via chrome. Everything opens in chrome. Tried resetting everything but it won't work.

Google docs woes

Though I may be remembering wrong, I swear I had Google docs working in the default browser. But, regardless of that, nothing works now. I have Dolphin HD, Opera, and the Google Docs app installed and NONE work. I have tried going through the google docs app and it appears to open a browser (address bar opens). Once a doc is opened, if I tap to edit it, the doc field flashes orange, but the keyboard never comes up. I've tried a variety of combinations of mobile editing, desktop editing, etc. with no luck. Am I missing something here?
I'm running a rooted nook color with updated relevant apps... not sure what else you'll want to know. Thanks
Nothing? I'm assuming it works for most people since I don't see a huge outcry regarding it... does https work for you all?

Open google currents articles in chrome?

Some don't like it but I really like google currents so far. However there is a button for linking to another app. In there I currently have Bluetooth (what would that do?) google+ (not sure what that would do either) gmail andftp (Why it would put my ftp app in there I have no idea...) and colornote that I have installed. All seem useless except colornote, but what I really want is open link in chrome. I wonder/suspect if I install another browser it may show up but why isn't chrome there? Or is there another method of opening an article in a browser.
My motivation is to keep or bookmark an article if desired. I wish currents had a means of bookmarking or 'starring' an article to permanently store the article similar to pulse.
But I'd be happy for now having open in browser. Is there a way to do this or control what appears in the link button?
I too would very much like to be able to share with Chrome. I tried "Andmade Share" but it wasn't able to expand my options very much.
Download an app called Flashify: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nightshadelabs.anotherbrowser&hl=en
Once you've installed, open your article in Currents. Click the 'share' button and select Flashify, and then choose your browser .
It works only from the 'Share' menu, so it won't appear in your app draw.
I have FF Aurora installed and gives an option to send to FF Sync. I just tried it and don't see it popping up on my N7 in Aurora or on my PC in FF.
I also have a send to Gtasks option which I have installed. It sends there as a task with no problem. I can open Gtasks and click the link and it gives me option to open in Aurora or Chrome. And it ends up on all my PC's since I use Google Tasks.
What warrants an app getting in the share list?
I have: Bluetooth, goog+, gmail, flipboard, 7notes with mazec, IM+, andftp, tubemate. and colornote.
Of the above, only colornote is of any use. Why would I want to send a google currents link to flipboard?!
Is this just borked or is there some logic as to what apps go in there?

Try my app "Currents Web Viewer" (play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.emseedroid.webviewer), it's exactly for that! It will let you open Google Currents articles in any browser of your choice.
You can also use the free lite version "Currents Web Viewer Lite" (play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.emseedroid.webviewerlite). Lite version only limitation is that you have to use embedded web browser but it's fully functional and allows a very unobtrusvie full screen mode.
Hope you'll find it useful. If so please give it a good rate on the play store!

[Q] Just rooted, can't get "searchmarket" onto the Nook Glowtouch

I just rooted my Nook Glowtouch. It has the newer firmware, thought I don't have the version handy.
I'm following the instructions found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2_r-_BxLKys
I'm at the part where he's talking about installing "searchmarket" but the Opera Classic browser is taking me to the google play web page instead of launching the Google Marketplace. The install from Appbrain is not working, I even tried installing appbrain but that didn't work as I expected it. For whatever reason, I'm getting full pages instead of mobile pages for these sites, so it's difficult to navigate and I'm not sure what to expect.
Is there a "searchmarket/apk" or equivalent available? I don't read Chinese, so I wasn't successful on the dev's site, though it seems more like a blog than a dev page.
Or is there another recommendation for doing this or a better searcher?

Have your Nook connected to a WiFi network with Internet access. Start a browser (on the Nook, or elsewhere), login to Google with the same Google account as you used to setup your Nook after you'd rooted it, go to http://play.google.com and search for searchmarket, click on Install, then select your Nook from the drop-down (mine appears simply as 'phone', alongside more descriptive names for my other Android devices registered with that account).

The problem with that idea is that I have 3 items called "phone" in the list. I can't find the android settings on the nook (I get taken to the nook settings), so I wasn't sure what it was supposed to show up as, or if there were a place I could change the name of it. Sounds like I won't be able to though.
I was finally able to get the app installed. I tried a Dolphin and Opera a few times. Eventually I was able to get the OS to send google play links to the native browser, which then shuffled me over to to the market app. Not sure if I could replicate though.
I was getting a bunch of certificate errors on the google play page during all of this, so I wonder if that's what was causing problems.
Solution? Time-zone!
For me the solution was to set your time zone accordingly -> because google probably checked "if your time certificates" are correct..
and also the problem could be :
"f you have any trouble getting it to install, go open the “NookColor Tools” app in the app drawer, un-check “Allow Non-Market Apps” then make sure to re-check the box again. You have to un-check it then re-check it the first time to get it to allow the installation of third party apps."

afterwards the tutorial works

WebKey & Google Play on FTV2

So, I have a PM a while back about Webkey app on FTV. Here it is

Hi there, I have just installed webkey on my Amazon TV Firestick in order to remote access Kodi installation configs etc.
When starting the app on the browser I can connect but get a plain replica of a phone on the screen with a small android icon on it but no actual way of viewing the screen or controlling anything. The mouse pointer changes when over some of the edges of the screen as though to do something but nothing seems to be working correctly. I wondered if you had come across this or can help with a fix? Thanks for reading this

I had the same problem on my FTV2 running version 3.2.6. The new version is not as feature rich (no terminal, no file transfers, no file system navigation, no way to input text easily) as the old one. Alas, you cannot run the older version on FTV2, it will refuse to start, either manually or auto-boot.
But, I have playing around with it and found that you can navigate menus using the keyboard arrow keys. Certain menu items can be invoked using mouse clicks as well (eg, if you go to Applications and open an app., you get different choices like "Run App" or "Clear Data". You can click on them and it seems to work). Also, usually once you are within an app, you can point and click using your mouse. So, even though it is crippled, it does work, though not as seamlessly as the older version. You can get the latest one at http://webkey.cc/ and there is a link for direct apk download.
One of the best uses I have for it right now is to interact with Google Play (system app). I have frozen my GPlay app at 5.6.8. As others have indicated, the mouse does not work (using K400) in the app. But, I can point and click in the GPlay app using Webkey and it makes it easy. Tip, if you need to click on the rectangle formed by 3 horizontal lines at the top of the page to get into your settings, click on the top left corner of that rectangle (of just those 3 lines) and the menu should pop down.
An interesting thing I found, if you install GPlay (5.6.8) as a user app, the mouse works, but it stops working when GPlay (same version) is installed as a system app. Of course as a user app, you get the error (976?) that won't allow you to install apps from within GPlay.

Unable to download webpages on chrome

I set up my fourth. yes fourth, V20 last week (the perils of buying used phones on ebay!) and all seems good. But I noticed a couple of days ago that whenever I try to download the page I'm viewing on chrome, it begins to download but then I get the message,
Download unsuccessful
Download is canceled The content is not valid to download
The pages get the tick in the notification bar and show up in the downloaded section, but when I click on them, there's nothing!
I've tried switching to data and have never had any issues with other phones doing this. I'm still on the stock ROM and not rooted. I'm in the UK and viewing UK sites, this is really odd. Does anyone have any suggestions as I caouldn't find anything when I searched online
This obviously isn't the place to ask for help with a Google app. Contact Google through email about their Chome app.
Would anyone have any (useful) suggestions regarding this? It's highly unlikely to be a chrome issue as I've never had problems on any other phones in similar situations (obviously I tried to contact them and went on their forums but I couldn't find anyone who'd experienced the same issue). I can't get the full UK keyboard due to some random geo lock on the H910, that's why I was wondering if anyone had any V20 specific suggestions?
I'd have happily moved to a Chromium based third party browser but I need the sync capability so that the bookmarks are also available on my desktop, so it's Chrome or Firefox as things stand (not really a fan of Opera).
As an aside - I've not found a solution to this and it's NOT limited to Chrome, it is the same when I run Brave, a Chromium browser. So the issue isn't purely Chrome.
It's a sizable pain in the posterior when travelling - it's great to be able to download a selection of web pages before setting off into areas with very patchy signal. I used to use Pocket, but I'd much rather know why I can't use the native function.
