Generate efs.img file from my personal IMEI number - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

Hi all,
I've been using this forum for years and years, always finding solutions to my rooting, rom or whatever problems but I'm getting to the bottom of it with this new one.
Here is the situation :
- I tried to install a ROM, it crashed, got my EFS partition delete.
- I didn't have any backup (I know, I know, I screwed up)
- I asked a friend with the same phone to send me a TWRP backup of his phone
- Now, I have a working S8, but with no IMEI
I still have my IMEI number from my phone that I would like to inject into the EFS partition. Is there a way to do that ? I don't want to change IMEI, I only want to reinstall mine. I'm trying to find IMEI tools to do that, but in a legal way (I know it's illegal to talk about IMEI change here). Or maybe an idea would be to generate efs.img files ?
If anyone has a good idea, I'll take it !
Thanks

You can't. Imei is cert protected. It has to be wrote to the device with a new cert file. Paid service my friend only way. Try flashing your stock firmware with proper baseband and such. Btw imei isn't in the efs like it used to be. That's about all of the help you will find here on it

Hi !
That's what I was afraid of, bu thank you for your answer !

Got some help from @BIOKNOX

Is there a link to the solution?

Ok so the @BIOKNOX account has been removed. Thanks for nothing, industry!
Can we have a solution to the technical problem, please? (No need to state that looking for official service was a hopeless adventure.)
How can the Problem
"IMEI zeroed out on screen. Original IMEI available on package"
be solved, please?
Official answers welcome. PM welcome.

How To Read the Imei from Polaris

anyone knows that?
What do you mean? By a program you are writing or just because you dont know your IMEI?
As for the program, I dont know, the last thing I touched was Visual Basic 6 a couple years ago...
As for the IMEI in general: dial " *06# " (without the quotes) and it will display the IMEI. Or check the package of your device, its written on it as well or as a last resort, remove the battery, there is a sticker on the back of the device carrying the IMEI.

Yes it does not work I have tried it. BTW does anyone have anytool for changing imei?
hi,
guys, you don't need to change phone's EMEI. What you need is to use MultyDID app (see the link for procedure http://forum.djawir.com/smartphone-...99-my-collection-smartphone-apps-games-5.html ). This program perfectly works for NAVITEL NAVIGATOR GPS-program, and I'm sure it will work for other GPS-apps as well.
Rgds.
change imei
i use mtty's mb command to peak into the memory and found the address for the following...
9DDD6C-9DDD7C: CID (ie. HTC__001)
9DDD7C-9DDD89: IMEI
9DDD94: SECU_FLAG (ie. 0 or 1)
i tried using mw to write the memory but the value wont stick... anyone know how to make the values sticky?
^^^ does anybody know?
For what purpose would you want to change the IMEI number for this way?
If a software will not accept your phones IMEI number you should contact the manufacturer/retailer. If it being installed because it wasnt meant for that particular phone then I'm afraid you should look elsewhere for solutions.
Guys, I'll be honest with you changing IMEI numbers to install software sounds like what it is without having to spell it out and I would be grateful if we wouldnt encourage it here on the Polariis forums by entertaining these type of posts.
Many thanks.

Polaris read only NV item *£50 Reward*

Hi,
I have a HTC Polaris that has a blanked out IMEI, it has been like this for months and as such does not connect to the GSM network.
I have tried editing NV 550 IMEI with QPST however it is read only.
The first person to post or email me a solution will be sent £50 via Paypal. Thank you.
send the phone to a HTC repairer, they would do it for around 50 pounds!
Htc quoted almost as much as a new phone on ebay!
they what?? that just does not sound right.
maybe flashing again helps
Look here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=425922
maybe this helps
try to have fun
It is stupid. I was messing around a bit with the phone so when I tried to have it warranty repaired it was sent back, so thats not an option either.
Thanks for your message Adelja.
Unfortunately the IMEI has been completely blanked out. The phone is not bricked, I just cant access the phone system because of invalid IMEI.
I have tried flashing many times, but it does not alter the NV item 550 (IMEI). I need a way of making NV 550 (IMEI) writable and not read only.

Hey matt, go into the Athena Threads of this website. Look for a user (lady), senior member name cmonex. I think she might can help you with this.
She is phenomonal. I never have had to ask her questions....she has helped so many people that alot of her knowledge is on the thread.
Anyway, PM her and see what she says. I think I remember her been very familiar with IMEI!!!
Its a try.
Thanks for your continued advice all.. keep it coming!
Anybody have any further ideas?
Maybe you can try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=418892

how did you wipe out the imei in the 1st place? maybe that will give a clue of how to write it back.
tried device_info...not working for polaris
tried WST some time ago too... i remember it can only read imei but can't write...
the unlocker and hard-spl has nothing to do with imei...

efs backup for i9505

My imei is null (so I have no signal ) on my i9505 and I don't have a backup of my efs file, can someone please send me a backup of their efs file (i9505)?
Thanks a lot
No one should send you their backup. It contains their own imei.

I understand that, but no harm is done. This is the only way I can fix my phone... (unless you can find another solution).

Hi mate ,
Not clear your problem , you can call , you have data , what you mean hidden? what do you get when you type *#06#? same imei as in the sticker behind your battery?
Hi,
if I type *#06# i see "IMEI /01" only. I not see other numbers.
When I go to settings --> info I see IMEISV /01 and IMEI: unknow.
I also check EFS folder with root explorer and it seems is ok because inside have other folders and in particular imei folder with file mps_code.dat.
Thank you

If the phone works and makes calls, don't mess with it.
Messing with the IMEI is likely to break it.
This is a classic case of "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"
Who cares if it displays an UNKNOWN instead of a number? All the IMEI does is authenticate your phone on the cell network. If it's authenticating it, then it's working. Don't mess with it.

Hi,
It has been always like this?
The only thing i can think of is to reflash a stock rom ( odin) and see if it helps, maybe is firmware related , BEFORE you do make sure you have a copy of your EFS folder

Put another SIM card in it. See if it works. If it does, then sell it with confidence. (I bet it would work)
Past that what you are asking for now is how to change the IMEI, even if you are asking how to change it to the actual IMEI. It's the same steps as changing it to a stolen IMEI so we do not discuss that on XDA.

It is not true. I do not want to change imei of my phone. I know very well that it is illegal!
I only want to solve the problem of IMEI / 01 because it does not seem right to me to sell with this issue.

I will say this again....if you want to change it from UNKNOWN to a number, then that is changing it. Even if you are using a legitimate IMEI for the phone. The procedure to do that is the same procedure that is used for illegally changing it from a bad IMEI to a working IMEI from a donor phone.
I don't believe you are trying to do anything illegal, but the process to do what you are asking is the same process as doing it for illegal reasons. Therefor, we don't discuss it here.
Again though, your phone isn't broken. It's working fine. So you should be able to sell it without issue. You can confirm it's sellable by putting the buyer's sim card in the phone to test it for a connection to a tower. If it works, it's a good phone.
Also stop looking up the IMEI with the 06 code.
Look in SETTING -> ABOUT PHONE -> STATUS
That should show your IMEI there. If it shows it there, then stop worrying about it. It's just the text code that's being goofy, not the actual IMEI.

TWRP Backup - No Sim Card found

So I recently restored a backup of my phone as I was having some issues with the ROM I was on, hoping to get back to a stable version of the ROM. When it rebooted after restoring the TWRP backup it reported "No Sim Card Found".
I am in the process of flashing stock images, but is there a way to combat this in the future?

Hello,
Do you have a custom ROM installed? Did you try looking in the ROM thread if it is a well known issue?
Did you try reverting to stock firmware?
Did you try cleaning the SIM contacts in the SIM tray? Sometimes contacts can be oxidized after some time.
Good luck...

Hey,
Android 4.4.2 ? Installed on a Nexus 6P ? Are you serious?
If you want to backup contacts, why not using export option in contact app?
Export to .CSV, save the .CSV file on a computer and restore those later with contact app as well...
Anyway, is it a Nexus 6P?
Good luck...

Hey,
Lol, ok...
So why.dom't you sync your contacts on your Google account? Or export as a .CSV file?
Also, if you are on a custom ROM having this problem and the stock ROM works, I suggest you report your issue to the ROM developer...

I'm on the stock rom, it's just a backup of it with all my staff there. But thanks. I'll try to delete the contacts and see what happens.
Deleting the contacts didn't. Anyway thanks for the help. But I found a way to get it to work again and I would like to share it, because it may help others.
The complete situation: I made a backup of a stock rom (4.4.2) with TWRP and when I restored it, the SIM card was not detected at all. In MTK Engineering Mode/CDS Information/Phone 1 (or whatever number yours is) everthing was at null or unkown.
AND I FOUND A WAY TO SOLVE THIS! Flash a ROM that detects the SIM card and enter the IMEI numbers. Then, go to TWRP, DON'T FORMAT ANYTHING and then restore the backup selecting the options to restore that you want (for example boot; nvram; system;... those ones). In my case, I restored all of them and I got it to work! This because the phone memory needs to be installed and with android 4.4.2 kitkat the phone storage is not in the backup, only the system storage. I hope this helps the KitKat users and others (because I've never tested this in other versions)!
