Can I Upgrade To MIUI 12 With A Locked Bootloader? - Redmi K20 / Xiaomi Mi 9T Questions & Answers

Wondering if it will work fine using the local upgrade feature.

MIUI 12 China Beta ROM? I don't think so...
I think it requires unlocked bootloader. (maybe I'm wrong...)

Okay, thanks for the info

You can't. The current beta release is only intended for use in China and as such you cant flash it through the System Updater. The only way to flash it outside china is through TWRP for which you'll need to unlock the bootloader.
Also I'll suggest never to try flashing anything apart from the official OTAs if your bootloader is locked. Because if something gets messed up with a locked bootloader, you'll end up with a hard brick which can be a real pain to fix. Might even end up having to go through all the EDL and Authorized Accounts mess. Once you unlock the bootloader, its fine.

Do you have a special developer version? If not, you have to be on firmware 98.15.66 or OLDER. Basically, your phone cannot have been updated since around March 2013. If by some miracle you still have old FW, then you can use Motopocalypse to unlock BL.
If you are on newer FW, regular XT907 and not developer, there is no way to unlock BL.
You might keep an eye on this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2679190
Right now, only phones made in 2014 can be unlocked with that method and it costs $43, but maybe someday they will have the ability to unlock 2012/2013 phones.
OR you could try writing persuasive letters to Verizon's Corporate Office.

[OTA][X1068] Anyone captured the update to 5.0.2 in [KXB21.85.27]

Hey folks, I created this thread just to separate this version of 4.4.4 which can't update to Lollipop using the current OTA file outhere. So I ask if someone which have this version receive the update to try to capture and share with the people.
Currently the only way to downgrade as I understand is downgrade the firmware to the KXB21.85.23 but for this you need to unlock bootloader, which will make you loose your warranty. So for people like me stuck with this version please you this thread to don't generate more doubts in the other threads. If you have other ways to downgrade without unlocking bootloader please share!
Best regards!:good:

Is there any overview which software Version Runs on which xt106x hardwareversion and on which Country Variant?
There were that much discussions of Different version combinations that i am probably not the only one who has lost the overview..?
This KitKat version was never an official OTA. So you can't upgrade from this version. Officialy you can't have it. Downgrade to .23 and you'll be fine!
Edit:
About loosing your warranty: you've installed the .27 update with een unlocked bootloader. So your warranty was already void. Relocking your bootloader brought it to 'Status 2' meaning you had it unlocked in the past. Never unlocked is 'status 0'. You never will get your warranty back by relocking it.
I tried it not working

That's what I said! It was impossible to instal .27 without a locked bootloader, downgrading with a locked bootloader is also impossible!

OK, possible... Where did you buy your phone and, more important, what is the bootloader status? If the bootloader status is 0, then you're right and I am wrong. If it's 2, then your bootloader has been unlocked in the past!

Bought new from Fnac in Portugal on Dec. the 16th. How do I check the bootloader status?
Please note that i'm not a devoloper, so I don't know this things deeply, but I do know what is an OTA, factory images, root...etc, meaning I Know that I haven't unlocked or rooted the smartphone.... that's why I'm telling that .27 is official, probably came preinstaled in the latest batch for EMEA region.

Okay, my bad then! I was wrongly informed! So just wait and the lollipop OTA should be released in a while!
Send from my XT1068 using Tapatalk.
The main difference in this version is coming with more languages support, as I said we are stuck in this version and of course I'm not thinking in unlocking the bootloader because in case of something goes wrong in the phone I could have the luck of Amazon trade for another new or sent to Motorola and there I'am screwed ...
If someone Find anyway possible without have to unlock the bootloader fire it out!
same here...i guess we have to wait.
Actually 27 is an incremental update. Motorola has updated Moto G 2014 software page with the details.
Google launcher was update and some minor improvements.
My one was bought 2 weeks ago in Poland.
And 27 was preinstalled.
well, im in the same boat,
was using the xt 1063 version lollipop then migrated back to 4.4 stock
stuck on .24 titan retbr ds retbr en br oi br
So with the news of today saying will roll out the new update for lollipop any one if have this version and bootloader unlocked can make a favor of post here the file for this Version?

Humm... i think the official OVA that was released today it's only for version .23 (Brazil, India and US) and probably the same version of soak tests, but we will see
24/01 and still no OTA update for my xt1068 in France (phone bought on amazon, having a reteu firmware)

I am waiting for CM, not yet unlocked/rooted: Do I update to B27?

I basically am holding out switching my daily driver to the Axon 7 until we have a fully functional CM or other clean ROM with root capability. My Axon 7 is on B20, and I got the update notification. Any reason I should avoid going to B27?
My concern is that we've found an unlock workaround for B20 but I am not clear if it works on B27, and I don't think ZTE has re-opened unlocking after the B27 update. So is updating a big risk that I won't be able to unlock/install CM when it is feature-functional?
I'll be very simple and easy answer.
Yes , Unlock Bootloader with know method base on B20 and you'll still be able to get goodies

I am sorry, I am interested too in this topics and I do not understand well.
If I unlock the bootloader on the B20 and root the phone, can I simply update the smartphone at the B27 (and others) with the ZTE OTA updates without brick the phone or lost the unlock bootloader?
Thanks
Edit: I found the asnwer in an other topic, I am sorry.

No problem, in your case just unlock bootloader and get the update.
No need to root till you are B27.

Cool, so if I unlock my bootloader on B20, I can do the OTA update to B27 and that won't cause problems? Can I install TWRP on B20 without breaking updates?
Bootloader unlocked = no more OTAs for you.
DrakenFX got us from unlocked B20 to unlocked B27 - I have faith in him

I've unlocked my bootloader on B20 and was able to upgrade to B27 with no issues.
Stock B20 -> Upgrade to B20_Boot -> Unlocked bootloader -> Downgraded back to B20 -> Upgraded to B27 -> Bootloader still unlocked

Oh, of course you can UPDATE. You just can't do it via a "real" OTA : you have to go here, get the files, apply modded updates via sdcard.

What about receiving OTAs on rooted devices that haven't unlocked the bootloader?
I'm on B27 and I've been waiting for some progress before unlocking or rooting due to the plethora of issues reported like broken wifi, or camera, etc, but I'm getting tired of BS that could be dealt with if I had root such as the insufferable YouTube ads. I'm not going to watch an unskippable 30 second ad for a 2 minute video. I looked into it and the process of simply rooting it seems pretty convoluted (requiring drivers, flashing multiple things, etc) and some parts are ambiguous. For example there was no specific instructions, on the guide I was looking at, about how to install TWRP which I want to see stated clearly since again there are reports of people screwing up their phones simply trying to install that.
I'm kind of surprised there isn't an all-encompassing sticky with links to every possible issue and how to resolve them and I'm sitting here wondering if there's every going to be solid support for this device with easy root/unlock/recovery/updates like other flagships have.

About B27 and Cyanogen
- From what I've read, you still have to downgrade to B20 to unlock/root/twrp then update to B27 using modified files.
- Once you got TWRP, you have several options to restore your phone in case of problems (despite full stock firmwares being limited to EU models - officially)
- From the actual state of Cyanogen, to me, you're better off unlocking+rooting and using xposed than installing CM
- Unfortunately, the systemless root isn't compatible with Xposed (and likely will never be) so you don't have a "temporary" solution
- Think about us poor A2016G users in europe
About Root+OTA's
- If you have systemless Root, you can have the OTAs, but it will wipe the root...
About TWRP, if I remember correctly there is one requirement:
- Being unlocked (Guide here)
- Installing it (Guide here)
I am, myself, waiting for a repartition tool, because 14GB being used by system is making my eyes roll so hard I'm getting motion sickness. A stock MM build is 400MB today, and I can't believe there is 13.5GB worth of camera and wallpapers in here (so, wasted space)
- We can dream it's here for the Nougat Dual Boot system, but even then, 14GB !!!

Nope. I used the official ZTE OTA update that I grabbed from ZTE servers myself. I did not use any sort of modified update. Yes, I did sideload it via sdcard, but that was because I didn't want to bother connecting to the network. I used ZTE's official update and applied it through the stock recovery fine.

See above. Did not have to use modified to update from stock B20 (with unlocked bootloader) to stock B27 (still with unlocked bootloader).
I am interested in this post as I am in the same boot. I am kind of waiting for stock firmwares before I start messing around because things have gone wrong it the past that only a fresh install have fixed. I am good with my current build and am just missing xposed and all the ad block features.

My bad, I just assumed that unlocked meant modified recovery with TWRP (and in that situation, it seems OTA won't work). "Just" unlocking the bootloader with everything else stock is usually rare.

Google Pixel Android P DP2 to 8.1 [Verizon Pixel]

Hi everyone
I recently got a Verizon Pixel and i want to roll back to Android 8.1 Oreo, i am currently on Android P DP2 with a locked bootloader, i've enabled OEM Unlocking (done under Android P DP2) but didn't want to unlock the bootloader! how can i roll back safely! do i need to unlock the bootloader! if my bootloader is unlocked can i lock it back! what are the possible issues/benefits if a bootloader kept unlocked!
Thank you.
Just unenroll from android beta program by visiting android beta website and you will get an ota which will revert you back to android 8.1.0
I've heard that some people who did, got a softbrick after the OTA update! I want to roll back manually.

You have two options then first One sideload the latest ota file of 8.1.0 which is of june. And then wipe your internal storage . For doing this you won't have to unlock your bootloader . And the second One is unlock your bootloader and flash the latest factory image of android 8.1.0.. Backup your data because both will cause you to lose your data.

Pixel's are finicky as far as relocking the bootloader due to AVB and dm-verity. I highly recommend against relocking these phones unless they are COMPLETELY STOCK. Also if it is a Verizon device you will not be able to unlock it again without using an exploit which is a bit hard to find and a bit scammy

Q>after Unlocking bootloader and installing TwRP

I'm running latest MIUI ROM global as of this moment . Will this break the OTA updates once I altered the bootloader and recovery?
no it would not.
Unlock bootloader make this device not certified
You should be able to update it .. but you won't be able to update certified apps
I see, thanks for the input guys
waiting for mine to unlock, what twrp version did you use?
this phone is not completely certified and the author of this rveviev believes that his low price is a consequence of non-affirming.
I do not know if this can move the discussion.
