Somewhat misleading/inaccurate detail on current Onn offerings as author seems to be conflating specs from 7" and 8" models. Hate when journalists don't do their homework.

It's gonna be more expensive than the last edition. Also the 10inch is now FHD!

https://fcc.report/FCC-ID/XMF-MID1035/4596735
In hardware revision says has lpddr4
https://fcc.report/FCC-ID/XMF-MID1035/4596710
6600mah battery

Bluetooth 5.0
https://fcc.report/FCC-ID/XMF-MID1035
At bottom ac wireless
Hope it's based on g series not p series chip , probably going to be P22 based though. It matches 2ghz octocore bt5.0 wifi-ac and lpddr4. G70 based chip would be way cooler though. Like what was put in realme c3 only with modem removed.

SoC in new GT 10.1

Hi,
since at this point it is unknown whatever updated 10.1 will still run on Tegra 2 or something else (Exynos 4201) I would appreciate your opinion on this matter.
What do you think will be inside?
If two versions will be available which one will you buy?
Of you hear any thing new in this subject - please post here.
Since Tegra 2 has some limitations (video playback) I personally hope it will run on Samsung's own SoC, will play all video formats and divix/xivid with DLNA and playback from SD will work beautifully.
I have an issue with Sammy using their own chip for one reason. When every other phone was running a Qualcomm chip and the Galaxy phones were using Hummingbird chips, there was some optimization in the android code that was not included for Samsung chips.
Since Honeycomb has been built around the Tegra 2 chip, I fear the same thing will happen.
Don't believe HC was built around Tegra2...hence the reason for no Dual-Core spec requirement. Hell, it's up and running on devices of all sorts as we speak.
I want Tegra games more than support for h.264 high profile video playback.
So, I want Tegra

If you want games you should wait for a SONY tablet ;-)
Why do you assume that it will have a worse performance in games than Tegra 2?
I think that it will be better than T2 in both cases.
BTW: thera are gossips of new Moto tablet coming out around fall with T3 (QUad core Tegra) inside...

Assuming he's talking about the PS3 and TegraZone games that require a Tegra chip. Other chips could probably play them, but think Nvidia has it so they look specifically for the Tegra chip.
Not that gaming is my main priority, but I saw all those "Tegra optimized" games on the Tegra Zone.
They are all nice games
It will be sucks if they don't perform as expected on non-Tegra tablet.
Because as I said, I could care less with that H.264 high profile. I can still "convert" them or stream (via future app ala AirPlay on iOS).

More than likely, Samsungs SoC will be nearly identical to the Ipad 2's A5 SoC, which has already shown to be several times faster in the gfx department vs a Tegra 2.
Also, the Tegra 2 is missing the NEON optimizations in most other A9 SoC's.
So I put my vote toward Samsung's SoC.

But like all great hardware, it's only as good as the software it runs. I'd rather have the Tegra if it has exclusive content or specialized support from Google.

There were news reports that Google was going to make Tegra 2 the reference platform for Honeycomb but that never happened. Now it looks like Google is working with LG to come out with a Nexus tablet this summer so it'll be interesting to see what they are putting in that.
Personally I hope Samsung steers clear of Tegra 2 and goes with their own SoC.
Isn't LG already releasing the G-Slate? Are they gonna release another one in the summer? Thats just not a great strategy me thinks.
In sweden there is now a IT fair called Dustin Expo, and one off or bigger computer sites reported that Samsung not going to use Tegra2 like the other manufacturers.
They will use there own dual-core ( probably Exynos ) and Adeno 220.

Looking forward to hear from Samsung whats up, and what spec the 8.9" will have and some reviews on how good there skinn on HC is.
The hardware that Samsung is about to release i really like, but they sucks on software updates and improve the products thay have released. So should i get the big and heavy xoom whit updates or the light and sleek Samsung without support
There is also Asus Transformer to choose from.

Besides Touchwiz, I say it depends on how you're going to use it. If I decide to get a tablet, it'll most likely be the new Galaxy Tab because (I'm going to assume here) that it'll most likely play any video and audio format I throw at it. I think that's the big difference (codecs) between the two as of now besides Touchwiz.

If true that would be the best news of the current tablet season as Tegra 2 sucks BIG TIME!
I would also want to know.... how close in design is Apple A5 (the one in iPad 2) by Samsung to Exynos by Samsung
I wouldn't mind if it had their proprietary SoC as what really matters in these tablets is the GPU. It seems the T2 chipset is getting a bit long-in-the-tooth despite not being heavily utilized yet. If Samsung is pairing with the Adreno 220 then that's better than the Tegra 2.

Why would they add an adreno 220, when a Mali-400 would be a lot better? Seems like an odd choice to me. Also that prototype is running Tegra 2(assuming it's the same device that's been shown off at other venues).
Maybe we'll see the Adreno 220s on the SGSII as well?
Wasn't the prototype just a 10.1v?
@Toss3
Presumably, the SGS2 will be equipped the dual-core Exynos clocked at 1.2GHz. I say "presumably" because, just like now, Samsung hasn't revealed the true name of the processor, only the clock speed.
Oddly enough, there will also be a Tegra 2 version of the SGS2.

Exoon Q2 Mini Dongle vs Tronsmart T428 (Identical?)

Hi everyone,
So I am about to order a Tronsmart T428, as after some research I have concluded that it looks like the best Android stick out there.
It has the new wifi chip (Broadcom AP6330), which supports 2.4Ghz & 5Ghz wifi and Bluetooth 4.0. The rest is basically the same with all the RK3188 chip Android sticks (Quad 1.8Ghz/2GB RAM/8GB ROM/Support for microsd and 1 full sized USB2.0).
But, as every new technology it has some bugs, mostly in XBMC which is why I have been postponing the purchase.
Now I have found the Exoon Q2 Mini Dongle has a new ROM, which supposedly enabled hardware acceleration on XBMC and promises a smooth performance (please see here).
When comparing the hardware of the 2 products, I find it 100% identical (from reading the specifications).
Could anyone confirm that? Would the Exoon Q2 Mini Dongle ROM work with the T428?
If this would be true, it would make these small pens an extremely good buy, as the media center abilities are the biggest selling point for me).
Please let me know what you think.
Exoon's other devices are just the Minix Neo X5 and G4 just put a different sticker and added a 100 buck on to the price the rom dev has his roms on MINIX forums if you load one you get the Exoon boot logo so yes they will probably work but finless Bob makes better Roms
Sent from my Nexus 7
I see exynos 4412 as SoC for the q2, t428 has rk3188
Sorry my bad it is this one..

Still 100 bucks cheaper

Thank you all for the replies.
@quincyquinn
I still don't have the T428, waiting for it to arrive as I already ordered 3 . This thread was made due to the fact that I was reading the Exoon claim that they have developed a ROM for their Q2 and Q2 mini stick which has flawless playback in XBMC with hardware acceleration, something that T428 still did not have (or at least I thought that they did not have).
When comparing the specifications they even have the same WIFI chip, so I was not sure if their ROM would've been better on the T428 than the current official ROM.
Good to hear that there is something better to use, its a pity we don't have a place on XDA for the Android development for these devices.
As for the link you have posted, thanks for the suggestion, but it's not only the slower CPU but also the fact that it only has 1GB of RAM that puts me of. Plus it is more expensive than the T428.
@NixZero
Please see the specifications for Exoon Q2 mini dodge here
And for T428 here
Unless I am missing something they look to be exactly the same on the hardware side, with both of them using the same RK3188 chip.
Have a nice day.

yeah, they looks like exactly the same dongle with just a different sticker, I was looking at the q2 box (why the heck they call everything with the same name?) which has a samsung cpu.
in theory you should be able to buy a 428 (less expensive) and burn one of their roms to get any advantage they have but looks like they still have to make a custom rom, there's not even a specific forum page for the new dongle on their forums.
the "firmware" page refers to the samsung one, not the new rk3188.
Exoon Roms are just custom Roms for the T428 they will not work any better than any custom ROM. Finless Bob and a few more make better Roms for these rock chip devices but the big problem is rockchip do not release source code for any chip so xbmc devs any limited to what they can do this is why the Samsung chip might be a better in the long run
Sent from my Nexus 7
Thank you all for your replies. I still hope RK3188 will get their source code released, it is still a relatively new chip and apparently with a good performance. If RK3066 has XBMC working correctly, it is just a matter of time to get it working on this new quad core edition with a slightly higher clock .
By the way, yesterday the new firmware for the T428 has been released (4.2.2) with working bluetooth and netflix improvements. I should be getting mine next week, so I will be able to give more information about the performance.
Back to the topic, if EXOON is claiming a flawless play for 1080p content on XBMC on their Q2 and Q2 mini dodge, by this logic owners of T428 should be able to have that also.

What is the fastest processor I can find in one of these head units?

I've been looking all over ali express find tons of conflicting info but I think I have deduced that the rk3811 quad core a9 is the fastest processor you can find in these units ( please correct me if i'm wrong). I want to upgrade the headunit in my benz cls500 and do a full overhaul with a new amp to get rid of the crappy fiber optics amp. The only reason I havn't pulled the trigger is because I was hoping to get a 9 inch screen that fits flush in the center console, something like this....... http://www.aliexpress.com/item/8-8-...ation-Central-Multimedia-for/32603628957.html .... and although it seems to have been released relatively recently it appears to have older technology in it. Do they make this style with the new processor and the 4.4.4 os.
well, there's a 10.1 inch unit

I believe the Rockchip PX3 Cortex A9 Quad Core 1.6GHz is the fastest processor in these Android units now. Maybe the manufacturer will release the eight-core version later, but who knows how long will it take. 9 inch screen is not the limitation, I find a 10.1 inch Android unit... only watched the review video, don't know how will it work after installation. you can have a look.

Yea I was actually interested in the 9 because I think that is the largest that fits into that very specifically shaped Mercedes cluster. I was hoping to keep it pretty factory looking. Well, I just googled the "quad core Android unit review" and it showed this in-depth review. After reading that review, I start to pay attention to that AutoPumpkin brand. They have released a few quad core Android units and also uploaded the review videos on YouTube to help us know better about their products. Of course, you can searched other brands by yourself via the net, such as Eonon, Joying etc. Since I don't know much of these brand, you can figure out by yourself. Besides, you can search the Android unit on Amazon or eBay. Don't just focus on Ali express.

Yea I looked at pumpkin and many brands my main issue is that the ones that fit my cars stock head unit all seem to be old hardware the only company offering the new hardware for my unit are these no name brands and I believe Joying otherwise i'm stuck with the dual core or the quad a7 processors. I started looking at ebay first but thought that might be a bit more sketch than ali express but i'll give it another look.

I believe I found a company that makes the px3 cortex a9 quad core you speak of it is called xtrons... but they are very sketchy about their info at first they list all cars that have fiber optic systems in their compatibility list then I ask them if this will work with a vehicle that has fiber optics and they tell me no. Then they send me a message sayign that this is the "5m fiber optic bypass cable" I will need. this looks like no fiber optic bypass cable I have ever seen can anyone verify that this company is not just blowing smoke. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Car-Stereo-...es-Benz-/301814784274?ssPageName=STRK:MESE:IT
I'm looking to do an upgrade from an RK3066 to an RK3188 and I'm curious if the 'PX3' and the 'RK3188' som/boards are the same - or at least interchangeable?
In my research I see that an RK3066 can (usually) be swapped with an RK3188, but the seller I'm working with has a som that looks just like an RK3188 som pictured in threads but the CPU is stamped 'PX3'.
Any confirmation this will work just like a 3188?
Thanks.

I'm curious how you were able to get such level of detail from a seller are you on Ali express? I haven't managed to get more than what is on the ad and often is incorrect info. I wasn't aware that they could swap these boards if so many the r16 quad core a9 is a possibility?

I agree, usually on AE it's very difficult to get good communication and detailed responses, but occasionally I've found sellers who will try to help.
I have no idea of the other A9 boards would work because the form factor is critical. These units have a pretty unique slot for the som, so you have to find one made for it - it's not generic.

Octa-Core processor. If there were some more folks here who had the unit I bet we could get some really good roms and/or other customizations going for it.

Something looks not right. Their hardware looks like the old style to me. Buttons and so on belongs
to old units. They claim DVD optional when the hardware has an opening for DVD? SWC optional is
kind of crazy too. The specification looks thin to me.
I have the version from the indiegogo campaign which is only 800x480 I think but it mostly performs rather well. It boots in about 10 seconds, maybe 15. Supports play store out of the gate. Some software is certainly lacking in terms of his customized solutions like Bluetooth interface for phone. But all in all it's better than anything else I've had the opportunity to play with, (admittedly limited) or researched.
I think this guy needs some growth with his company and some serious feedback and maybe he can get some more talent at his company to create some better software solutions.

I have seen some where play services implementation is junky and play store won't work at all. Some have it so that you need a spoofing app so that you can download basic apps. I'm sure they all support Bluetooth phone in some capacity or another. The implementation on this device could use some work but purely as a headset it works fine.
Oh and his specs on that page I think are identical for all of the units. So the dvd thing doesn't surprise me. The front end of the business, (store front, manuals, product shots and details) could certainly stand to improve but I'm optimistic.

If a device says it's running android 4.4.4 or 4.4.2. is it safe to assume I can run store and the phone implementations are functional. I really think I want to go with the 9 inch screen for the Mercedes because I think it looks sweet but not sure how well the quad core r7 stacks to the new quad core r9. It also runs 4.4.2.

Haven't found difference of B vs D variations.
2017 supports BT 4.1 LE, 2015 supports BT 4.0 LE.
So not much difference. Maybe better/lower power screen.

It looks like the same logic board, with a drop-in replacement for the SoC. I was honestly expecting more from them in a refresh...
Honestly, a quad-core 1.3GHz wouldn't but bad if it weren't an A7, a low-power ARM cpu from 2011. If it were a 64-bit A53 like it's sibling the new HD8, it would be TONs faster.
This has 1GB of RAM, which is ridiculous, although I think we're going to see a lot of devices with 1GB of RAM with the launch of Android GO...
It's still using a Mali-450, which is a low-power GPU from 2012.
Still using N wireless, not even AC.
Honestly, for a $49 tablet, what more should you expect? You get what you pay for....
For my sister who would love one of these to read books, it's realistically all you need, and the increased contrast ratio is nice. For anyone who wants to play Minecraft or use it as a tablet in any capacity, it's absurd. Spend the extra $20 on the HD8.
Can't complain for the price but would expect newer components at same price point. At some point, is more expensive for chip makers to keep making older parts.

Call me touched but thinking Amazon has a pretty good handle on long term component costs. They're not shopping Radio Shack for SOCs. Structures likely locked in for duration of product run with supplier accepting all sub-component pricing risk in exchange for guaranteed minimums.
Makes sense but still odd chipmakers still making such old parts. At some point it's cheaper to make newer faster parts than maintaining old chip lines. Older chip lines eventually lose economies of scale.

Western mindset. Components will likely see widespread use in less affluent markets.
