LineageOS 16 and maybe 17 ... no basic settings option suggestion for developers - LineageOS News & Discussion

For some time I compared different roms for Redmi 4x. I summarized basic options in the table and sent to the developers.
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet..._q-erkzYRjm2PRzNjwmNyNTPE/edit#gid=1328689442
As:
- there was no interest in errors and there was no effective response as to any corrections
- it is impossible for a single person or a 2-3 person group to createstable rom
- the number of reported errors and thus the possibility of making corrections is strictly dependent on the number of testers, which of course depends on the population rom brands
- a lot of roms have single editions, without any later updates, including we are wasting time testing what is not allowed to work properly
I decided to go back to the most popular LoS rom because:
- is constantly updated
- the system only downloads about 1 GB RAM!
- the installation file is only about 550 MB
- no need to install Gapps
- the system is not overloaded with unnecessary overhead settings and applications
BUT, there is a lack of basic settings / features, maybe they have been forgotten:
- dark background of text messages and call log for dark mode
- camera with 50% cut menu
- it is not possible to add 8 or 9 icons of the desired settings to the top bar, shortcut bar in one line ... the maximum current quantity is only 6 (almost all other roms can personalize the appearance of the bar)
- no built-in number blocking option: not in contacts; reserved; from phone booths: unknown
- no parameters during charging, even current; sometimes fast charging does not activate and we are not aware of it, and tel when we care still charging in standard mode; if there was such information we could disconnect and reconnect the charger which often solves problem.
- options in the gallery: editing, sharing, deleting after viewing the photo could be placed more ergonomically in one place, e.g. under existing in the upper right corner drop-down menu with "three dots" and that same without obscuring the image itself (I think AOSPextended has it)
- default icons: camera; browsers, sound / screen recorders are not clear
- small date and watch with seconds on the upper beam
- list of connections as in older versions of android with a specific date and time, not in the type "3 days ago"
What do you think about it I suspect that the above functionalities are also not present in LoS for other devices, but they would rather be useful. Perhaps some of them will be restored in LoS 17.
I put this case also into reddit LoS group:

[4-Feb-2008] Pointui Home 1.02b released!

hi,
the new version is out, look here.
Original PoinUI files attached on this post.
Code:
New Features
* Smartphone support
* PDA's (without phone) support
* Voice mail count is now displayed under the missed call count for those with phone networks supporting this feature.
* Lock screen will fade back to Home screen to allow you to see all of the status information even when device is locked.
* Translation support - see the forums for more information.
* New customise option: can choose digital or analog clock.
* New customise option: Lock Device, Show Home, or Show Home Screen when device is switched on.
* New customise option: automatically switch bluetooth on only during phone calls and switch off at the end of the call (not supported on all devices). The idea behind this is that if you only use bluetooth during phonecalls for headset etc and don't need it on all the time, then this option could be useful to you. It will turn bluetooth on as soon as an incoming/outgoing call is detected, and turn it off when you hang up.
* New customise option: can choose to use Home's comm manager or system default if supported.
* New customise option: can choose to not show screenshots in Currently Running screen (if your device has issues showing the screenshots).
* New customise option: can choose to Show Home, Show Call Summary Screen, or Do Nothing when call is finished.
* New customise option: can choose to use Home's task bar or standard system task bar.
* The list of applications now merges the list of favorites so you can view the entire list together
* Call summary screen added to display who was called and how long call lasted for at end of call.
* Lock screen can now be used on smartphones - you press up then down on dpad.
* You now have an additional option to "Lock Device" on power on.
* Battery saving - now only uses marginally more battery power than normal - smartphone users should notice a big difference (of course this is dependent on how excessive you are with using it).
Changes
* Taskbar in all other standard apps is no longer changed except for the Start button area which still takes you to Home's Task Menu.
* Windows Media icon has been replaced with Favorites.
* Appointments summary shows only the next 7 days of appointments.
* Tasks summary no longer shows completed tasks.
* Force close now returns focus back to Home.
* Ringer volume and profile button on sound screen for non-phone devices are no longer displayed.
* Appointments now display all day events in bold and should not display events that have been completed for the day.
* "Today" and "Tomorrow" in appointments also now show the date after them
* Smartphones no longer have a Windows Mobile section as it's not relevant.
* Shortcut no longer includes "." at start which was causing issues for button mapping.
* Soft key on Today screen no longer overridden. (NOTE: you will need to reset it back to what it was manually if you have a previous version installed).
Bug Fixes
* Many bugs fixed!
* Memory leak issues fixed.
* Lock screen locks keys as well, and when orientation changed while locked the keys remain locked.
* Recurring appointments now displayed.
* Hardware buttons now working.
* Volume controls now working.
* Volume controls support stereo.
* Control panel applets have had a number of bug fixes. They still are only categorised correctly for English ROMS unless you use a translated terms file as described in the forums.
* Battery shouldn't show 255% any more but some devices for some reason do not report the correct % when asked and can take a while before they report it successfully.
* The speed that tasks load has been improved and should no longer cause freezes.
* Currently Running screen causing device to freeze has been fixed on most devices, but still is problematic with some devices in which case you need to switch off the screenshots option.
* Closing home sometimes caused it to freeze needing soft reset issue has been fixed.
Known Issues
* See the forums for more details.

Add links to the \Windows\Start folder.
Ok am I missing something or is there still no way to reverse the slide up and down and side to side? Its backwards from every other finger sliding program I have used and it just makes it feel wrong.
Man I can't believe they still haven't made this an option.
Can I use this one for VGA? because I ever tried using the previous version but can not display well
just edit your Menu under Settings
i have folders in the \windows\start menu folders such as '\Office 2007' and '\Accessories'
how can i access them?? i hope favorites can also support folders in the future version.. i kind of like the way PoinUI is right now (optional top bar, optional homescreen).. because i only want PointUI to be an Application Launcher of some sort and not a complete overall UI..
also, can the scroll function be reversed? i mean an option to do so? because i use FtouchFLO and TouchFLO for general OS and application navigation and it's scroll/finger swipe function is when you swipe up, list scrolls down.. and a swipe down does the opposite direction (list goes up)
it is a bit disorienting to have a different/reversed swipe/finger scroll direction in PointUI other that what the whole OS has..
besides those requests.. i'm enjoying the launcher 100%
dont know what happened....phone froze during a phone call...uninstalling
screnshoot please
This is pretty good. Have decided to give it a go now that you aren't stuck with that hideous blue!
Just one question - how do you go straight into Contacts to make a phone call. I have been using pocketcm which is great, but now have to go looking for it as an application, instead of just hitting the soft button.
Or am I missing something?
still no way of changing which email account to use from the main page i see (defaults to outlook/exchange) even though i've not got that set up at the moment and have done with the windows live mail
that and the backward touch scrolling is making it hard to use this program which does look really good.
it just needs its own email/sms reader and contacts just like its got with the recent calls list.

Every resolution is supported. The two configuration files LANDSCAPE.XML and PORTRAIT.XML contain the screen size and button layout positions - if you have a differente size screen you can simply edit these two files to move the buttons around - full instructions are included in the XML file
So I have seen the great work that people have been doing here - and I absolutely love the themes from Greatbal - but the overhead from SPB (and having to have it installed) do not seem to justify the actual overhead.
I decided to start writing my own fully customizable fullscreen page - this will be updated as I add more features - and will post the executable for people to send and leave me feedback!
Transparencies are fully handled.
If you like the application and want to support me - you can do so with my Paypal link below - it is set to just $5 as I think this is plenty for anyone that so wishes to donate (all donations are going to be sent to Great Ormond Street Hospital here in the UK). THANKS!

FAQ:
Q. It crashes because of xxxxx
A. First try copying and running the files from system memory as some devices (HTC Touch) have issues resuming from standby with program running from the storage card. If the program still fails - edit the config.XML and select YES for errorreporting - then run the program - when it crashes post the errorreport text file here and I can try and help you.
Q. Why is there nothing on the calendar or music or blah blah page?
A. Because the app isnt finished yet - as clearly stated above! - more is being added
Q. What version of WM do I need?
A. 6.x - it does not work on WM5 or below
Q. How do I install it?
A. You dont! - simply copy all files to a folder on the device and run the EXE - that's it - no install - no uninstall - nothing changed on the device - no registry entries required.
Q. What is the default unlock sequence
A. 1 single guesture - ^ (you can change this on config.xml)
Q. Can I change stuff?
A. Yes - everything! - the landscape.xml and portrait.xml contain all the positions for the icons and layouts for the skin, while config.xml contains details about non-skin related options
Q. What Compact Framework do I need?
A. You need either 2.0 or better still 3.5 - unfortunately some custom rom cookers have not fully incorporated CF into their build and this may cause you problems - not just with my app but anything that uses CF. My only suggestion here is to try an updated (or different) base rom! - it works perfect with all the WWE builds with CF installed - so I know it's the rom
Q. I get a white screen when starting the program
A. This can be caused by two things - either you did not UNZIP all the files into a directory (this will contain the program files and TWO sub directories :- PNG and WAV) or it can be caused by a problem with the custom ROM you are running and due to the cooker not implementing the compact framework correctly - and the only solution to this is to use a different rom (this will affect all programs that try to access these portions of the CF not just mine)

I'm not one to stifle innovation, but i'm curious how this is/will be different from something like RLToday
(both are full screen, and use XML for configuration)
http://rotlaus-software.de/forum/viewtopic.php?id=1171
RLToday:
1. vjtoggletodayiialpha to remove topbar and bottom bar.
2. vjokbutt / mortscript to have X/OK icon we you lanuch application.
3. Mortscript to have Signal, battery, Wifi, Bluetooth, Volume on our new customized topbar.
The program I am using is pure .NET - no mortscript, no vjtoggle required to create full screen
I intend to replace all the original functionality of the device where possible.
The one thing I cant stand is a beautiful today screen and when you press the "messages" button you get the bloody horrible white page with the message display - I intend this to replace the messaging, calendar and contacts sub pages and make them feel a lot nicer to use.
I am using the full API and some imported DLL calls to reference the information on the device directly instead of using scripting programs - and as such as you can see - it's tiny in size and runs very quickly!
I have also already managed to code left and right guestures for page swapping although they are in the code provided - the guestures currently do nothing.
looks VERY promising, will keep an eye on this thread!
this is indeed very promising n will help to reduce the use of multiple programs and plugins
Nice! Sounds like alot alot of work...hope you find somebody to help you ! GL !
Nice work
It looks nice and promising, keep up the good work. I wish I am good at art work.
Hopefully somebody with good art sense will help you. Good luck friend.
Sounds like a cool idea.
1. How did you replace the home screen?
2. iContact has a fairly portable titlebar module you could use... it's in C++ win32 though.
The home screen isnt actually replaced - it's still running behind - the key is to use the API's to adjust the window up and over the title bar and make my app foremost so it takes over.....you can see the start menu still working by pushing your "windows" soft key - the menu will still pop up bottom left - although I need to make the title bar visible again when my application loses focus - something to do.
The main screen is actually just a custom built graphic which is updated periodically - but that has events behind it that detect "zones" on the page for clickable areas - the page is re-drawn in the back buffer and then flipped to the main screen to prevent any flicker - currently the display is set to update every 5 seconds - need to assess battery performance based on update speed.
The advantage is that because the page is built up from "element" small graphics pieces that can be interchanged or replaced totally and also resized to anywhere on screen - the layout is completely changeable!

Oh, in that case, you could make the carrier, battery, signal strength, etc., configurable too!
They already are! - download the program and try - the icons at the top are all png/jpg/gif files in the PNG directory and the size and position of the icons at the top can be configured through the XML file in the application directory
<OperatorTextX>0</OperatorTextX> <X location of operator text
<OperatorTextY>0</OperatorTextY> <Y location of operator text
<OperatorTextSize>7</OperatorTextSize> <operator text size
<SignalX>155</SignalX> <signal strength x pos
<SignalY>0</SignalY> <signal strength y pos
<SignalW>25</SignalW> <signal strength width
<SignalH>10</SignalH> <signal strength height
But still everything that is included up to now - is all within 55K!

Hope you can keep working on this as it is quite promising.
sounds good, a new fullscreen skinnable gui that needs no other apps. i only know two really good ones: mobile shell and pointui. pointui has a batteryproblem and isnt skinnable and mobile shell isnt freeware hard to skin.
But you will have a lot of work man. thanks and good luck.
Ok - am going to leave the rest of status icons for the moment - I have all the API references for Bluetooth, GPRS, Edge HDSPA etc to see if they are active or not and will put them in in due course.
Next I am going to work on the new "send SMS" screen - this is going to be a total replacement for the horrible white screen sender - much more like the diamond SMS screen - but I found that to run really slowly on my Kaiser (under the mobile shell) - so will hopefully be making a much quicker version!
First thing to do is the screen layout - again the size and position of the entry box and the name box and the background will be customizable through the XML - yes - I am making everything move/sizeable lol.
Next will capturing the keyboard input to the boxes and finally using the SMS API to send the mesage and return to the main screen.
Looks promising, I'll be checkin this out the next days.
Keep up the good work!
wow this is amazing...one question will the sms program be a replacement threaded style ap or just to send? If this becomes something like point ui but with complete control that would be awesome. keep up the good work.
I intend a full SMS replacement UI - the SMS sender screen is already done and will be uplaoded shortly - the SMS history will also be completely re-written to be able to be viewed threaded or non threaded - however you want to see it! (hopefully)
thinkin of flash integration?
No plans for flash - but I can play flash moives through the .net framework - although - my aim to make a fast replacement.
Please see the latest version for bringing up the SMS screen - it is INSTANT - makes you wonder what MS is doing with their screen and why it's so slow at loading

[APP][SVC][Mar 8, 2010] BattLineSvc V2.1 / Battery Indicator Line in Title Bar

Overview
You've seen these before -- the little green line at the top of the screen that indicates the current battery level. This app is really nothing new or revolutionary. The main difference of BattLineSvc is that it's a true Windows Mobile service, so it does NOT use one of the precious few 32 slots available for processes. You can find more information about services here. This app has been tested on Windows Mobile 5, 6, 6.1, 6.5, and 6.5.3.

Current features
- Shows a nice bar along the top of your screen to indicate battery status.
- Color changes based on 'warning' and 'critical' battery levels, as well as when the device is on AC power (configurable).
- Immediately correctly resizes when the screen orientiation changes.
- The battery level is updated immediately when the device notifies listeners that battery status has changed (or you can specify an interval if your device isn't sending notifications.
- Can show a bar at the bottom, left, and right sides of the battery bar (if you want it).
- Can be offset from the left and right, if you need it.
- Height of the bar can be changed.
- VERY low resources used -- runs as a TRUE service and uses as close as 0% CPU as is possible by an app like this. So it's good for even older snail devices. :-D
- Has a configuration app (requires .Net CF 3.5)
- AppToDate support!
Recent Changes (See CodePlex or changelog.txt for longer changelog)
- (2.1) Fixed a bug where on system start-up, it would pop up a notification box to let you know the service started. Annoying! And fixed!
- (2.1) Fixed the styles in the notification boxes for start/stop service.
- Fixed bug where sometimes the line would not show up, even with the 90 second boot-up delay. This was due to the window being created too early (not actually delayed, even though the subclassing was properly delayed. Oops!
- Boot delay was reduced to 30 seconds from system start-up; so far no issues with it starting too early!
- Added a "right side offset" which works as the left side offset, but for the right side.
- Added a "right line" which works the same as the left line.
- Added a new color setting for when the battery is charging. (Default is a light gray-blue.)
- Battery status, by default, no longer refreshes on an interval, but instead by waiting for battery notification events. This makes BattLineSvc even more efficient! The interval timer is still there in case your device does not work with events only.
- Reduced the number of subsequent refreshes by requesting a synchronous status refresh; previously it would wait asynchronously which was less efficient since the update could take anywhere from a few milliseconds to several seconds.
- Removed a redundant battery status checking method which monitored the registry (no longer needed because the new power event-based system works better and is more efficient).
- Removed a few other old segments of code that were inefficient.
- Added user notification for starting/stopping the service with the start/stop apps.
- Added a configuration program (yay). Requires .Net CF 3.5. You can still edit the registry manually.
Registry
Look in HKCU\Software\Avian Waves\BattLineSvc
Colors are best edited as hex, using the following pattern: BBGGRR (seems backwards, but it's due to the endedness of DWORDS in CE). Your registry editor may not show leading zeros either, keep that in mind.

- Height = (int) Number of pixels tall for the battery line.
- LeftOffset = (int) Number of pixels from the left edge that the battery line starts.
- LowPercent = (int 0-100) What percentage of battery charged is considered low (yellow).
- CriticalPercent = (int 0-100) What percentage of battery charged is considered critical (red).
- ShowLeftLine = (bool) Show the vertical line on the left side of the title bar where the BattLine starts.
- ShowRightLine = (bool) Show the vertical line on the left side of the title bar where the BattLine starts.
- ShowBottomLine = (bool) Show a line on the bottom of the battery bar
- ColorForegroundSolidNormal = (color) For 'normal' (not low) battery charge, this is the foreground color, default is bright green.

- ColorBackgroundSolidCritical = (color) For critical battery charge, this is the background color, default is dark red.
- ColorForegroundSolidCharging = (color) For when the device is charging (on AC), this is the foreground color, default is light gray-blue.
- ColorBackgroundSolidCharing = (color) For when the device is charging (on AC), this is the background color, default is dark gray-blue.

- TimerIntervalSeconds = (int) How often do we look to see if the battery level has changed (in seconds)? NOTE: As of V2, set this value to 0 unless BattLineSvc is not updating on your device. Zero means disabled. This settings is no longer necessary as BattLineSvc now waits for battery notification events, instead of updating on a timer.

FAQ
Question: My battery life seems to be draining faster after installing BattLineSvc. Is BattLineSvc causing this?
Answer: Probably not. The current version of BattLineSvc has no active polling. This means that when there is no battery status change happening, BattLineSvc is 100% idle. In Windows Mobile, applications and services are event based. You can set up a "loop" type of system (loop over and over, constantly checking for something), but that's inefficient. Even in older versions of BattLineSvc that made use of TimerIntervalSeconds to update the battery status, the updates were done a timer. So, you see, when BattLineSvc starts, it sets itself up to listen to system events, then it explicitly goes to sleep and waits until it receives a message. This is all handled in the OS and it's the way efficient apps are written in WM.
Okay, so you are wondering, well maybe a lot of events are firing and it's causing more CPU and therefore more battery drain. BattLineSvc listens for battery events and also power change events (on to idle or idle to on). None of these fire very often, unless there is something wrong with your device or your ROM. Even if they did, it wouldn't matter unless they continued to fire when the device was asleep/idle. In WM, an app must request to stay awake when the device goes idle (users presses power button). BattLineSvc is set up to use unattended mode, which is the mode where WM goes into after you press power-off to turn off the screen, but before it's fully asleep. WM gives all apps requesting unattended mode 15 seconds to complete their task. If they need more time, the app must explicitly ask WM by reseting the idle counter timer. BattLineSvc never resets the idle timer! So unless another app is doing this, the device will fully sleep 15 seconds after you press the power button, which is normal WM operation.
Okay, so that's the long winded explanation. But you want answers! Well, I always would encourage you to A/B the situation by running BattLineSvc for a few days, then uninstall it and try it a few days without. I think this will persuade you in 99% of cases. Please don't post on this thread if you have done less than a week's worth of power testing. There are so many thousands of things that can cause battery drain, you can't tell with only a few hours worth of testing.
One thing that causes power drain, which is the TRUE reason most people think a new app did it, is your cellular radio. Sometimes, for random reasons (atmospheric interference, dead zones, cell tower glitchy/busy), your radio has to work harder to get a signal. In fact, sometimes you may notice your phone is warm while its idle and you know you aren't downloading or anything. That's the radio! I've had a fully charged phone go down while it was in my pocket doing nothing in half a day due to this. The next day, all is well. Zero changes on my part. It just happens. It sucks, but, well, there's nothing you can do short of turning off your cellular radio. Luckily its rare unless you know you are driving out of coverage area or something. Which is why apps are blamed sometimes. You install an app, then the power drains and you logically conclude it was that app. You uninstall it the next day, and all seems well. This is why you need several days of testing - to rule out these random things!
Finally, you must test from a full charge. You can't install BattLineSvc when your device is half full, then see the last half of the battery drain faster than your first half and come to any conclusions. Battery drain is not linear! It's subject to the nuances of the battery. Usually the last half of your battery will drain faster than the first half, but it all depends on the detection algorithm and the battery itself. The only true test is from full charge with exactly the same operating conditions (all other apps the same, usage the same, no background tasks like downloads/refreshes happening any different from the previous charge).
Good luck in finding your power drain and I do want to know if it is BattLineSvc, so please report it if you are having an issue, but don't post anything until you've done a full week of testing with BattLineSvc installed and BattLineSvc uninstalled.
Thank you. It seems to work well on my HD2. How can I get rid of the original battery WM6 indicator?
Stephen, search for reg settings called TBOpt and ShowTitleBarClock, You'd probably get Your answer.
What I really wanted to say is that the idea is REALLY nice, although I personally dismissed all the bars and stuck with QMenu's numeric display of battery and memory on the taskbar - tho it's a bit buggy. I guess I am a numbers' freak If someone could rewrite that to a reliable, small, resource-saving service, that I would really appreciate. To date I haven't found such app...
If You need any ideas what to develop, I would be glad to present my list
Good work and respect!
nice job - try to implement "breaks" in the line - like SPB Pocket Plus bar
(so that you actually get a feel of steps)
also looks nicer and feels like it measures something, not like there is something wrong with the pixels at the top of the screen
wm 6.5.5 (build 23540) Touch HD Blackstone
Works fine on said device and build, just changed height to 1 pixel.
Attached a screen shot but can't really see it that well, it's fine in reality.

I probably won't be doing that, at least not soon. I have too many other tasks on my plate at the moment. After creating a config app for this service, I will probably shelve it for a while. It is open source, so feel free to add that feature and I'll roll it into the next version.
Beautiful app. I always admire developers who make the effort to really optimize their application and minimize resource usage. Well done.
I was not able to find any information as to whether ibattery and lvmtopbat (which ibattery is based on), also run as a service. Anybody knows?

This app has been tested on Windows Mobile 5, 6, 6.1, and 6.5, but NOT 6.5.3. (Can somebody test for me?) There's no configuration app yet, so I hope you like editing the registry if you don't like the default settings. ;-)

Hi thx1200
No issues so far on my device
Thank you
Currently running 6.5.5 with manila2d. It seems 90 seconds is not enough on my Tilt to startup correctly. If I restart the service it is great. Maybe it can be a parameter in the registry settings.
Thanks
I like it, works great on my Imagio so far. The only improvement I'd like to see would be an additional color to indicate that the battery is being charged.
Good job!
Works well on my Imate Ultimate 8502..
Good job!

Yes, this would be great. Thanks for making this so lean. Apart from this request, I wouldn't add anything else as it should be kept simple to be really useful.
A really tiny little tool. Will post a screenshot from mine...
One point i have:
It will be very helpfull when there is also a right side offset.
It means with newer skins we have round corners. And with
that the left side offset is wonderfull, but i need also the
right one.
Is this possible for the next version?
Hi
Being color blind, I want to change the colors to more contrast so I found a web Hex Color Chart but when I apply a color code the bar disappears, obviously I'm doing something wrong, can someone help me with this?
Is it supposed to run on smartphones (aka "WM Standard") as well? I don't get it visible despite the service is started after reboot. Do I have to use a different class name for this?

@ tito,
you have seen the default colors after the installation and before you have changed something??? Next point from 1st posting:
as sample:
color = green
standard hex = #00FF00
BattLineSvc registry value = ff00
You have done this in this way? The leading zeros are not supported. Otherwise the light goes on now?
Hint:
If you need the hex information for a color and you have further problems with your hex calculator, publish an icon 90x90 pixel and you will receive them.
@thx1200:
i am working on a DUSK skin for your tiny app. Looks good at the moment, but not ready because the right side offset .

Hi tobbbie,
i don't think that the app is running on smartphones. So far as i understand the soucre code after reading, is this app not compiled for smartphones. I also have seen for the *.exe this resourceppc.h and this Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC SDK (ARMV4I) and this Windows Mobile 6 Professional SDK (ARMV4I) is used. That means it is for powerpc, or i am wrong thx1200?

I know why this is happening and it will be fixed in the next version (with a much shorter delay).

Marshmallow India - PLK-UL00C675B320

I received an OTA for PLK-UL00C675B320, which is Android 6.0 marshmallow and EMUI 4.0. My comments inline in Italics
The changelog as per the update is here -
[New Year Theme]
- New Year Theme added
[Multi Window]
- Supports Multi Window
[SOS Feature]
- SOS feature added (it was there in B170 as well)
- Can send SOS messages (my advice is to turn it off for regular usage, it can send spurious SOS messages)
[Application Compass]
- A compass (that is really slick)
[Alarm Ring Tone duration]
- Can combine different sounds for a really long alarm
[Screen Recording]
- Screen Recording
[Join Contacts Feature]
- Join different contacts (was there in B170 as well)
[Intelligent Contacts]
- Group Contacts by Company name
[Message Cancel within 4 seconds]
- Cancel a message within 4 seconds (basically adds a 4 second delay, works only with the default Messaging app)
[Soft lock]
- Adds a button for screen lock along with Back, Home and Task Manager
[Some Known Issues] - The update says so, but these are not issues per se
- Applications like Native browser, magnifier, UC browser and Screen lock App removed
- Voice search removed (no more Dear Honor or Hello Emy)
- Honor ROM icon changed to Honor Club
- AM / PM will not be shown in Clock on the Lock Screen (Biggest issue of this update, especially for travelers)
- Battery setting removed from Settings (but the % remaining display can be enabled from "notification panel and Status bar" settings)
[Pre-upgrade considerations]
- 1.13 GB large
- Charge should be more than 50 %
- During downloading the upgrage package, phone remains functional (so enjoy those missing apps one last time)
- This version can roll back. Please refer Rollback guidelines available with the release. Roll back will clear User Data, so backup is recommended (I did not find any roll back guidelines anywhere)
MY OBSERVATIONS ON CHANGES
- Been using it for 6 hours now
- Biggest issue seems to be that the option for FAST CHARGING is no longer to be found. The phone does seem to fast charge though, so no option to turn off Fast charging
- Settings are organized now in groups
- Still no Screen Pinning
- Scheduled Shutdown and Start option present
- A few apps like Virtua tennis still don't dance along
- RAM usage has increased. From having about 1.8 GB free in Idle state with no apps running, I now have 1.2 GB.
- Right after Cold start, On lollipop, I used to have 2 GB RAM free, now I have 1.5 GB RAM free.
- So 500 MB to 600 MB RAM is used more here.
- Contacts now open in full screen, rather than a smaller window as in Lollipop
- Pro Camera is now called Professional
- All Other features the same
- Good Food mode is now moved to Settings and Time Lapse takes its place on the main screen
- Everything else in the Camera app seems to remain the same
- Some new cool wallpapers (there is a shark one)
- Icons now have a rounded rectangular box around them and are transparent In lollipop they were filled with a random color)
- Some App icons still have random color fill (like whatsapp) but some like Air Droid just have a transparent rectangle. Some, like Uber, still have the corner of their icons truncated
- I think it freed about 300 MB from Internal Storage (I am not sure)
I tried Google Now on tap but it did not work. All I got was "No cards now". I have turned it on in Settings.
- Icons for missed calls have changed and the notification panel now shows how long the phone rang.
- App permissions that PM Plus granted are missing. In its place is google's own app permissions. It does the same thing but while app permissions on Lollipop offered a central view, now one has to go to every app to find out their permissions and change them. There is no place where, say, I can see how many apps have access to Contacts.
- Too early to say battery life is affected but it does seem to be slightly better.
- I could not find Doze settings anywhere
- One can now create rules for Donot Disturb mode.
- Phone seems slightly faster
- There are more transition effects now
I have registered and still not received the update
I have got OTA on 7th Jan,
1.Battery seems to be same as previous version.
2.no doze mode
3.no Google now on tap
4.battery usage is hidden inside battery manager..more complicated
5.No USB mass storage option.. only files and photos option for USB
6.Animation looks nice
7.No major change in UI
8.Smart controller have new Tv shows option..but all are in Chinese...no use
9.Multiwindow option (like Samsung have) works only with selected apps
10.Recent Apps view changed to single app per page.. New compass app
12.Camera Quality seems to be improved

What would you mean by No USB Mass Storage option ? Only photos and files ? If you mean that apps cannot now be moved there, that is not completely true. I tried to move accupedo app (10 MB) and it worked fine. But then I tried to move angry Birds 2 (119 MB), it said not enough space on memory card, which is untrue because my memory card has above 25 GB free.

Issues that I am facing
I found couple of issues that I think are bugs:
1. There is pop-up that is shown whenever I try to use any of voice recording apps like 'Video Recorder', 'Screen Recorder' etc. This seems to left over from the developer. Very annoying when doing screen recording.
2. No option to choose the Data Cycle ( 'From' and 'To' dates) when setting 'Traffic Reminder Settings' under 'Data traffic management'.
Anybody else experiencing same issues??
Same here

I found a good option in this version but I don't know if it was in the previous versions or not.
the option is to keep any app you want keep running in background and not be closed even if you cleared the ram memory . :good:
run the application you want to keep running and go to the recent apps by pressing the square button and slide the application you want down side and you will find there is an closed locker icon attached to this application prevent this app from closing when you click on the trash icon to clear the memory. :good: :good:
Note: if you slide the app down side again you will find that the locker icon changed to an open locker icon and now will be closed if you clear the memory.
** this option will be useful for the social and chatting apps to keep running and receive notification all the time (facebook, whatsapp, viber, ....)
