The megapixels haters thread - Samsung Galaxy S20 / S20+ / S20 Ultra Guides, News

So ive been hearing alot of BS from users that megapixels does not matter, that they are marketing gimmicks, i was even banned from reddit android sub, because i claimed non true things. So let's see who was telling the truth, and who was talking nonsense, looks like someone did not inform well about new ISPS, new image formats, and new bigger sensors that DO take advantage of higher MP count.
I got 2 identical crops of a car, you be the judge. Both shots were taken in HEIC format, and than converted to JPEG for compatibility. 64MP vs 12MP.

And because i was laughed at and getting ridiculed, ill post proof for the second claim i made, 8K snapshots, are much better than 12MP pictures from the main cam in daylight, again IDENTICAL crops, night and day difference!

Ignore the ones at reddit. I noticed there is more ppl that refuse to take criticism there and very narrow/closed minded.
Megapixels do make a difference. But does it matter? It depends on what you are using the photo for.
If just a casual holiday vacation photo, it probably don't matter unless you want to crop.
If it's for professional work or the photo will be printed out, then megapixels is very important.

But they claim THERE IS NO difference, its not about practicality.

I think software>megapixels. However, who cares if you were banned from that sub. A majority of them are children who have no idea what they're talking about.

Its not about who cares or if, its about the facts, and what is right or wrong. Being banned for telling the truth certainly feels bad.
The debate was this, does the S20 offer better pictures from 8K snapshots, and 64MP vs 12MP, as you can see the answer is a clear yes, when i talk about megapixels i don't think every phone has benefits from higher resolution, but new high end phones certainly does.

You'll be surprised at how many ppl there are that loves to troll, esp at reddit. That's why i prefer xda, more matured people especially mods.

Atrix 5MP Camera vs............

Here are some comparison shots from my Atrix compared to pics from my iPhone 4. Most of them are very different......
Some of these are in low light, but all are on default - automatic settings, and iPhone 4 has HDR turned off. Flash is on Auto on both also and it came on the exact same shots so there should be no difference there.
Feel free to post more comparisons. The Atrix shots are 1st and iPhone 4 2nd btw.

wow thats pretty bad...
u sure u did everything right lol
The iphone has a backlit sensor and I don't think the Atrix does... it simply has a better camera sensor so this is no surprised to me =\
the iphone does have a tendency to oversaturate its pictures though...
that's pretty bad :'(
engadget was lying then when they said that the camera was good enough to use it on a daily basis

Maybe its better outside and that's how they tested. I'll try it out today.
I'm no camera expert, but the Atrix camera is great (but not as good as the iPhone 4). It could be much greater if it fixed the lighting control issues. Too much light. Too much JPEG compression, too.
I've definitely gotten better results than the ones above, but the camera isn't as good as the iP4's. I don't generally factor the camera into my phone buying decision too much, but it's nice to be able to get a good shot. I've had an x10, iP4, Captivate and Inspire most recently. The x10 and iP4 had the best cams. I wouldn't go back to any of them because of it though.
btw, I like that table

that sucks. we need more of this, and it would nice to see a captivate vs atrix comparison.
And inspire vs atrix comparison would be useful as well.
It's also not as good as the Captivate, but it is by far not the worst.

These were 2 quick shots and I think the flash was reflecting heavily off of the guitar in the shot.
lol, and seeing them both blown up they both look like crap. My bad.
Same photo with the winmo htc tilt:
Outdoor pics.
Captivate
Atrix
Honestly, the atrix is probably closer to what your eyes see. Which isnt always as pretty as a camera picks up.
iPhone 4 tends to saturate the **** out of pictures especially inside. Those actually dont look all that bad.
Well one thing is for sure, There is a purplish hue in its pictures.
Even on the first page the Atrix photo's look more "real".
Iphone even the 3gs does SOOOO much processing to an image it's not really a reflection of the hardware... Iphone pictures look better because of MUCH better processing software.
My 3gs iphone can take nicer looking shots in CERTAIN cases then even a older canon 5 or 6mp dedicated camera.
I think the Atrix pictures are great... there is a bit of blue/purple hue but I think a better camera app would probably fix that.

Motorola XOOM
Notion Ink Adam
Thanks for the video. What is that annoying clicking sound on the Notion Ink Adam?
The Notion Ink Adam pic looks a bit overexposed, I brought the exposure down 1/4 of a stop in LR3, but the Xoom pic still looks better. Alot less color & luminance noise with the Xoom. I don't know how much you PP'ed any of the shots.
I tried but couldn't match the WB & color cast of the Xoom to the 5DII, maybe i'm just not good enough, but I couldn't do it.
Your comparison clearly shows that these cell phone cameras while they're getting better, will never have the IQ of a crop body or FF DSLR. Just not enough light gathering ability. I might dig up my colorchecker passport and see if I can't compare my Xoom to my 450D.
As a fellow photography enthusiast, I always find these kinds of comparisons interesting..thanks
Wow! I love your picture setup. Lol. Tigger, fruit, and jenga pieces! Excellent taste my friend. I love it! The xoom rocks for a camera.

As I see, the Xoom is very bad in the color. It's not respected comparee to the 5D Mark II, but I don't care because I don't want take pictures with my Xoom. I don't shot pictures with my phone so..

Its kinda hard to compare the Xoom camera to a dedicated device like the Canon that costs around 2-4k depending on where you buy.
Still the photo the camera in the Xoom produces really isn't that bad. At least compared to the Notion Ink anyway.

The adam is simply unusable in this demo From bad quality to whatever that clicking sound is/auto focus, does not compare to anything but ****.
I'm a photographer enthusiast. My canon 5d mii is my standard benchmark in comparison. Luckily neither tablet beat my canon our else I would have tossed it lol. I should have added my nexus in the video test too much I thought it would have been too much.
the clicking noise was adam's camera trying to focus near and far objects. Which was unacceptable...

Gotta say that I think that the Xoom has phenomenal performance for a tablet in the video camera tests. Was not expecting that at all. Could do better on still photographs. The Notion Ink's performance was obviously less than optimal, to put it very kindly.

The last photo I crudely washed out the little girls hand out of the frame.
how in did you get so close to that cute lil creature?
I just put the phone within 12 inches of his face. He was very docile. I even had him sitting on my shoulder. Not sure if he was scared or what his problem was, but he let me hold & pet him without too much moving around.
What attracted me was we were in the back yard, and heard this noise that sounded like a dog, it was this little guy. I looked all over this small tree, didn't find a nest of any kind, no other squirrels any where. Street next to the tree...didn't see any road kill. Not sure if he fell out of a tree, was abandoned or what his problem was. Plan on checking tomorrow to see if he is still there...take some shots with my dSLR.
Cute little Pup.
If the sounds were like a high-pitched 'yelp' that is normally an indication or associated with a call to either a mother calling her Pup/Kitten or the same calling the Mother.
Good shots btw..... Clear and evenly lit. The latter one I would have maybe used flash but that would have more than likely scared the little guy away.
I had a look at all three EXIF Data. Nice to see there were variations.

I think most people who were complaining about photo quality were, like me, doing so before the recent OTA firmware updates. When on KKA the focus didn't seem to work at all - since updating to LA4 the camera is focusing properly (in most cases) and I've got some great shots.
If you guys don't know about it, check out Pano - I've created some amazing panoramas with it.

http://www.xperiablog.net/2013/04/18/camera-shootout-xperia-z-goes-up-against-the-galaxy-s4-and-htc-one/
It's good that this gets more attention, but I don't hope that Sony will only look at this problem as a compression problem, because there is a lot more wrong here.
Sorry but I've had a good test of the Sony camera compared to HTC one and galaxy s3 and the xperia camera edges it barring the odd bit of over compression but I'll take it for less noise and better colour reproduction than both those phones
I believe the z has bigger fish to fry like unforgivable viewing angles, awful speaker quality, lag and ui skipping issues, over heating and odd and inconsistent battery life.
I loved this phone on face value but the more I use it the more I pick it apart
The camera is by far it's best attribute and is better than its competitors right now even if the photos are a little soft.

Viewing angles: You want to look at the phone from a 45 degree angle? For what reason? Or do you love that other people can read your text's?
Aweful speaker quality: Ok lets put a better speaker in, but remove the whole concept of the phone being water proof/resistant
Lag: Yeah lag..... where!?
ui skipping issues: ??? Examples please.
Over heating: Name 1 phone that doesn't overheat, isn't it logical that the processor becomes hot when it need to process something big?? Since our phone's are made out of glass we will notice it even more, since glass is a good heat conductor (You could/should've known that before you bought the phone)
Inconsistent battery life : Partly true, it also has to do with the apps that you run, so you can't really blame Sony for that.
ANYWAYS.....this topic is about the camera so lets leave other issues aside.
What's all this about the camera, the Zs camera is easily the best I've ever seen. Stop using reviews as a basis for a petition. Many of these sites have their own agenda. I've repeatedly heard them say the Zs camera is worse than that of the iPhone. Well they could have fooled me. That claim doesn't stand up at all. It's biased stupidity.

You should not expect the same quality pic in a macro shot than in a night shot. With other phone, in those conditions, you would get a nice black photo. In Xperia Z you get a noisy pic, but at least it's not black.
I have to agree with the issue here. Before I even looked at the Xperia subforum, after coming from an S3, I knew straight away that I couldn't take a half decent picture and after 30 or 40 shots didn't get a single image I could use.
I could get a perfect picture on my S3, default settings almost every time, and if not, certainly the second time.
Nobody can say that's placebo caused by popular belief because I never even saw the complaints until I had decided for myself the picture quality was apalling.
the camera app itself is a big problem because it was ported from x1,x2 (windows phones) and tweaked a bit. guys who have/had x1 or x2 know what im talking about
when sony finally makes new or updates camera app some problems might go away
Some camera problems are dued to picture softness. Camera360 automatically "improves" the quality with a focus filter, you should test it.

maybe you just dont know how to actually use a camera besides for pointing and clicking? if you just point and click, itll just take an average focus photo, and its not that great. if you press on the point you want it focused on(point and click), itll come out much better, focus and lighting.
Come on guys/gals. Watch the language.
This is just your opinion. I've had much worse cameras on phones such as the moto x. Is it the best camera on a phone? No, but it clearly isn't the worst camera ever. This is what every reviewer said. I kinda doubt you even have a nexus 6 if you are saying it is that bad.

Sounds like user error - there's nothing wrong with the camara...
This thread is useless. Not sure why the mods have let it exist as long as it has existed...
So we can discuss how the first post is wrong so as to not allow others the same lapse in judgment
You can criticize the camera if you'd like, there likely are other cameras that are better and/or worse either overall or in specific situations. The M8 tuning the camera to a lower resolution but better low light performance is an example. There are better cameras sure, but it does take some pretty good shots if low light shooting is your primary concern.
My point is, please debate the camera, debate breeds ideas and opinions which (hopefully) influence what manufacturers put in our devices. But try and be constructive, and where possible specific and/or somewhat scientific in your assessment. If you are, there's a chance we can all help each other find solutions or if need be, recommend a better phone based on your needs.
Now, who's going to hack 60 & 120fps video for us
