[HOW TO - YOUTUBE VIDEO] Root (Magisk) - Galaxy S20 & S20+ & S20 Ultra - Exynos-only
Hello everyone,
Here is a complete video guide of a method that wroks very well for rooting the Galaxy S20 (or any other Exynos-based S20 such as the S20+ & S20 Ultra) and installing Magisk onto it.
It works only on Exynos-powered S20 devices (S20 - S20+ - S20 Ultra including all 5G versions), not on Snapdragon versions.

Enjoy!

thanks mate nice how too guide

Thanks man, nice guide!

You're welcome, guys. I hope it's useful, I know that some people are less inclined to make mistakes if they follow video instructions instead of written steps

What? you don't need this to update with data still intact! Everyone just repeating things without fact checking. that guy couldn't even explain why it's needed to flash this.

Chill mate, I read in the thread he didn't answer and I too used and flashed a magisk patched boot.img way before Jesec or this how to video popped up without flashing vbmeta. It's widely understood why and how anyway. Jesec is by far more knowledgeable than you or I and personally thought he'd disappeared for good ?

Dual boot or multi rom?

Hello, I was searching the forum and Google and didn't really find much.
I was wondering if the S7E had the ability to dual boot Roms? The goal for me is to have a N7 port on another slot than my standard rom that I'm running. I have a 935F.
Any help on this would be appreciated.
+1....but i don't think will have such thing thanks to exynos chip
- tapatalked - from my VANTABLACK S7 EDGE
Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. I recall being able to do it on my Nexus. I also believe my s5 had the option. It's been awhile though.
me too i had this on my nexus 5.zperia z2 and even xiaomi redmi note 3 Pro but they all have in common a Qualcomm snapdragon chips
- tapatalked - from my VANTABLACK S7 EDGE
Yeah, too bad you can't do anything with the snapdragon on the S7E. I started out with a snapdragon, got so angry with it and traded it out for the 935F.

i have the exynos chip but what's wrong with SD chip
- tapatalked - from my VANTABLACK S7 EDGE
I also have exynos now. Nothing was "wrong" with it. I had a locked bootloader which limited the things I wanted to do. Trying to make Roms work the way I wanted was a PITA. Hence why I switched.
Dual boot is possible with Dual Boot Patcher on note 5 which I had before S7E , so that means it is possible for exynos chips but I don't know if our S7E is compatible with this app, as I decided not to root this time .

I'll test it out now and report back.
Thanks for the find!
Update: As of right now I cannot get it working. I get it to say "Switching rom" and then the rom stays the same. I will continue testing.
So, I tested it out and I was not able to get it to work. My initial problem was that aroma installers were not supported. I tried both TWRP and in app flashing. The error logs stated it failed to update the binary. I'm not a dev, nor do I pretend to be one so I have no idea how to fix that.

To get it working our device model must be supported and on the list of supported devices included in the app which I guess is not but is possible with some dev help.

It is on the list of supported devices actually. That's why I was hopeful. Everything goes like it should, but when you switch to the rom nothing happens. Or you get it to say "Switched roms" and you are on the same rom. The dir isn't populated with the boot.img either so you can't manually flash it.

Could be. I just updated my BL and CP, so I'm going to test again and see how it goes. I'm not aware of any 935F kernels that support dual boot though.

When I had the note 5 N920c some roms were successfully booting as a secondary rom and some perhaps most didn't because of twrp recovery, but there were moded twrps which solved these problems.
As I decided not to root then I don't know if there's a work around for S7E or not.

dave7802, Sorry from being new... but can you explain your statement? I'm an iphone user that is looking to switch to android, and I'm thinking of buying an S7 Edge. I want to be able to dual boot it. Sounds like you were able to get it working, but would you be able to help me understand how? Sorry totally new to this whole idea of ROMs and dual booting. I just want to make sure the phone I'm about to buy is going to be able to be dual-booted. I'm in North America, and I read on a different thread that the NA phones are not BL unlocked.. is that going to be a problem?
Sorry to ask so many wide open questions, but you are the first person that I have seen to confirm dual booting of an S7 Edge.

It will depend if its EXYNOS
If so you should be okay, If its Snapdragon then its locked and there is limited support.
The dual booter Patcher app, Bascailly allows you to installed selected ROM's in the Internal or External Memory.
And from within the App you select your Current ROM, Upon restarting the device will boot into the addtional ROM.
Now chenxiaolong is updating to Support android 7.0 And the dual booting is newly supported for the S7 Edge so it may be some time before its perfect
But keep in mind that the Root method Magisk is also bringing a Universal Dual boot so this may be another option.
CM builds are not yet created for this device, So it is only Stock ROMS you can dial boot

Thanks this is really helpful. Based on what I found online about the Snapdragon distribution, the US 100% snapdragon, so I think I'm going to pass on this brand/model. Any other recommendations for devices? I'm thinking the Google Pixel, or the 1plus3T. They are both really new phones, so I'm guessing they wouldn't be supported. So new to all this, my head is spinning.

They were doing this with marshmallow previously and there's no problem with knox. You end up with the G modem.
Have a read of the posts about it. I assume you would need to flash mm 920g first then update to nougat.
Samsung pay stopped working after factory reset on nougat.
1)So far good battery life with almost constant use on stock nougat 7.0 on SM-N920G india..
2)Maximum 5hrs of SOT with quiet heavy usage like lte data as well as wifi enabled most of the times as per availability ,Music ,Social networking like Facebook, whatsapp, hike, instagram, twitter, pinterest, tumbler and many more i use daily with WQHD display mode instead o FHD which is default as i wanted it to compare with MM
3)Power saver mode is also disabled so just tested it as daily personal usage with Lte Data and Wi-Fi enabled as per availability, Power saver disabled, WQHD display mode with Auto brightness on, Most of the preloaded bloatware disabled as i always prefer clean touchwiz without unnecessary apps
4)Didn't tested heavy graphics game through game mode(As i am not games-lover but a social-freak),performance mode on ,maximum brightness like 70-80%
5)Deep sleep is not tested as i didn't keep it aside to acquire proper deep-sleep but as per moderate battery drain i can say it might been solved as it is for Turkey users

S7 edge (SM-G935P) rootable?

Update: There's still no clear answer on this. What's the difference in what Chainfire says is impossible, vs, what people are doing in colormedroid's SM-G935P Root thread?
I've been reading all day and I've still no confirmation on this: Is the S7 Edge (SM-G935P) still unrootable as of Sept. 2017?
Thank you
Following up for the long-weekend.
Searching and searching and finding:
This post from May of 2017 says the device is not rootable without disabling encryption:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=72204306&postcount=978
This post from July of 2016 has very clear steps for rooting the SM-935P (snapdragon, even):
https://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-s7-edge/how-to/root-t3410424
What is the difference? Is it just that this process involves the disabling of encryption as Chainfire mentioned in his later post? Is root possible on the snapdragon variant of the s7 edge? I see dozens of posts from people who claim to have successfully rooted, and then entire articles at a later date by renowned developers who say "nope".
This might be a pain for people to continually answer these basic questions, but I've been reading for hours and have no better confirmation one way or the other.
Thanks for your time.
Bonus question-
Many posts report no custom recovery because of the locked bootloader on the s7 edge devices, however the LineageOS installation instructs the user to use Heimdall to install TWRP-
https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/hero2lte/install
How the what now?

I have not yet tried. I picked up an S7 friday, having seen posts about successful root/twrp/lineageOS. I followed the Lineage steps as far as setting up Heimdall, installing libusb drivers, and connecting the device, but found the conflicting information about the process before I attempted to flash TWRP.
I stopped everything after that point, because if I can't get root/twrp/etc, it's going back to the store.
It's the second (and last) Samsung I'll be returning. I already returned a J7 because it wasn't supported either. I don't have time to follow the scene as closely as I did before, and wasn't aware how bad the situation was for device ownership these days.
It is bad but I'm fine with how it is to be honest
All I want to do is be able to install zero camera mod. Pissing me off that I can't
I believe the difference that I've been failing to get an answer for regarding the rooting of some snapdragon-model S7 Edges, is that the device compatible with TWRP and Lineage OS are the chinese-only variants, known as hero2ltechn (which I'm probably misspelling, but I can't even find it via a google search now to check).
I'm still not even sure if that's accurate. This is after hours of reading and having to draw my own conclusions. Tons of wasted time, and wasted money (returned the S7 to the store this morning, albeit for a restock fee and nonrefundable connection charge). Very frustrating and sad!

Convert Sprint Galaxy S8 Active to T-Mobile - need instructions and some files

Hi guys! I have Sprint version of Galaxy S8 Active and I would like to switch the firmware to T-Mobile. I did do standard flashing, but feels as if I haven't done anything. FYI - I didn't use "user data" file, I don't think I had to.
I have read some posts for S8 and many of them mention "factory binary" and so on. I didn't find any of that. Could anyone gather needed files? (I did download normal firmware) A guide would also be helpful!
Thanks!

Root for the Samung Galaxy S10 5G

Hey all, I have successfully achieved root on the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G SM-G977B. The process was simple due to it being the same process as topjohnwu already published. This is the official page for the instructions by topjohnwu which do work: topjohnwu.github.io/Magisk/install.html#samsung-system-as-root. If you struggle at any point feel free to reply and I will help where I can.
Currently TWRP doesn't work but I am spending time attempting to port it over. I am in no way an advanced developer but technology is my passion. So if I am successful and another developer hasn't already ported one over I'll be happy to post, but expect bugs. Due to this my device is currently unrooted but I can quickly root it and add pictures to prove .
Happy Rooting!.
Verizon Locked?
Are you in the US? The only way to currently buy it is through Samsung/Verizon and I am worried it may be locked to Verizon. Will that cause any issues in terms of rooting?

The US version of the Galaxy S10 5G Model is snapdragon 855 SM G977U and from a bit of search you won't be able to root
If you want to root your phone your going to need an Exynos version SM G977N Unlocked & SM G977B of the Galaxy S10 5G which he has above
Your going to have to wait until someone sells a unlocked version of the snapdragon even then don't know if you can still root

Hey all, a proper guide with all the information will be posted soon in the meantime I am working on TWRP and will post updates on how I'm doing. If any developers want to potentially lend a hand then feel free to PM me or email me.

Currently I can successfully boot into TWRP by flashing a custom modified built using the s10+ device tree as a base with modifications to fit the s10 5g.
TWRP seems to work perfectly, and it seems that the current issue is all the security measures Samsung put in place. I have attempted modifying the multidisabler just by adding my version to the support list but while I do get further then without it. I still get stuck on Samsung logo before a reboot. And based in my limited knowledge on the script and also looking through the files as root previously it seems Samsung has changed a few files around. So that is were I am at.
Latest update: I am now working with ianmacd (the current maintainer of Unnofficial TWRP for the s10/+/e) to bring youse and myself a working twrp for our devices!, according to my observations and Ian's observations when building a custom kernel that the s10 5g is more different than the s10/+/e range so please be patient while me an Ian work on this. Based on everything he will now be the lead developer and I'll be the tester gathering all required files. I doubt my work will be used but it was fun experimenting with it and who knows maybe it could help. I'll continue to post updates

Thanks mate!

Hello everybody,
I have an SM-G977B and I followed the root guide in the top of this thread.
Arrived at "Unlocking Bootloader" => "Long press volume up to unlock the bootloader." in download mode that option is not in the list and pressing volume up nothing happens.
By skipping that step with Odin I can only load original roms without the root.
How do I get the option to unlock the bootloader in the download mode menu?
Excuse me for the bad English,
best regards.
