Can I use the Samsung Galaxy M30s/M31 on a UK network? - Samsung Galaxy M30s Questions & Answers

Hi, given that the Galaxy M31 does not yet have a forum on XDA and since it is so similar in specs to its predecessor, the M30s, I thought of asking this question here. I am very interested in this phone model (M31 specifically) and I am curious if this phone is compatible with the cellular networks in the UK. I am mostly interested in the massive battery and there are just so few choices with such a huge battery.
If it is compatible, then I am thinking of purchasing this phone from India the next time I visit and using it in the UK. But before I make such an investment, I wanted to double check that it can work here otherwise it might become a heavy paperweight.

I purchased my m30s from Amazon.co.uk and can confirm that it works on 02. The handset is unlocked so I can't see why it won't work for other networks.
Just so you know, there's a big seal sticker on the box stating that a European SIM must be used, but it also says that to use a SIM from another region, a 'cumulative call over five minutes first be made with the SIM card from European operators.'

Region unlocked

hi, i think i should tell this to people who wish to use your phone in other region. PLEASE READ STICKER ON THE BOX. My mom live in germany so my phone was bought from germany, full paid.when I got it I put my Argentina simcard in and it's locked.we contacted T-Mobile and Samsung and I got this info.
to unlock region :
at your first time put your region simcard in the phone ( your simcard must be in the region as the phone) , do the setting. When you are done , Make a call for 5 minute to prove your region and done.(Now your phone is free to go.)
update unlocked proved (Dec 12)
I did factory reset. Put region simcard (germany) in to my phone (germany).mom made a call with her germany simcard to her friend in germany for 10 mins, after that I tried my Argentina simcard and it's unlocked !!! Now my note 4 is region unlocked at first I wasn't sure if it will unlock but we tried and it's worked.

It all region locked. You can check your phone by put simcard from your country. You will see that it ask for Pin , your simcard can't be use ,it's mean your phone is locked . if you live in other region and already have a phone with you. Please try my methods by buy prepaid simcard of germany or use EU simcard if you have one and make a call to germany number or your friends in EU for 5 mins or more, after that it should unlocked.
I know it has a lot of unlocked website that you can try but i also saw many people got some funcions problem after unlocked . I think what I did is safest way to do or try.
work lte 4g in argentina? which model?
You need to make a minimum of a five minute phone call on a local sim prior to it going abroad, sorry to say that it's common knowledge but... it's common knowledge. There's a massive sticker on the side of the box.
Stupid idea.. So what happens if you buy the phone duty free at an airport? Does iPhone do this or HTC etc
Silly question, can't you just buy an unlock code for the device and voila, region unlocked?
If anyone could help to buy the region unlock code for N910F :/

No just Samsung. It's quite simple, you get the phone you make a local phone call for five minutes, you rebox the phone, I think it's to stop people reselling them overseas.

That is impossible coz I am in India. But I am Going to US and will be having a 2 hour lay off at UK so I might get a sim and use it. Will that work?

If it was originally from the UK yes it will, I'm not sure if it's the UK or the entire European region. I'll find out, more to the point what does the box say? AFAIK you buy the phone then you make a five min phone call then it'll be unlocked, has to be on a local network

Argentina still not fully support 4g. Model n910f
you can also unlock it by visiting a samsung service center in your country. luckily the good models of note 4 like 910U dont come with that stupid sticker.
Thank you for posting this as i'm currently in a similar situation and i've been searching the web for unlocking experiences of people from Argentina or at least South America. I live in Argentina too but i'm currently in France visiting my bf i am thinking in buying a Note 4 or S5 here, so according to what you said i could buy just whichever version here in France (carrier free ofc) and to get it unlocked i need to make a 5 or 10 min call with my bf's sim (from France) right?. I so worry about getting it locked by mistake and then having my head ripped off by Samsung when paying for the unlocking in Buenos Aires xD

I have 910c and just unlocked it by calling a local number for five minutes. What keeps me worried is if I flash a new firmware or update to lollipop it will be locked again?
Any idea?
I'm not sure. im not really expert about this . Sorry, but I did rooted and unroot my phone often. It does not effect region unlock.
I guess you already know this, but for those arriving here via Google: no, the phone won't get locked again after a firmware update. I bought a Note 4 SM-N910F in UK and region unlocked it there with a local SIM. Later moved to other countries and received plenty of OTA firmware updates, and always could use any SIM cards from any country. Even a firmware rewrite with Odin didn't cause any issues.

Does anyone know where in the phone is located the region lock information (e.g., what partition)? And/or how to back it up & restore it if necessary?
Also: to unlock my SM-N910F from UK in another region, can I ask a friend to send me an activated UK SIM and make an international call to UK?

International Versions

Are all international versions of the Edge+ alike? Is there any one particular international version that should not be purchased because it will not work on a carrier or be rootable?
You have to rely on spec sheets and user reports. Versions C, F, and I are most likely candidates to work with GSM networks. Most other versions will probably work but with limitations (e.g. no LTE) I know that Note 4 SM-N910C works on AT&T network with full LTE compatibility. Dual-SIM variants are usually not fully compatible.
I wish there was a aggregate database stickied in the forum but it doesn't seem to materialize because XDA members are all over the globe. In any case I would inquire with members who have first-hand experiences.

What is the difference between 928c, 928f, and 928i?
I've seen 928c 32 gb for about $750 and 928i 64 gb for $1900???
Edit: ehh, I found the 928i 64 gb at $1049 too, which makes more sense given the space. Still though, which to use on AT&T in the USA?
AT&T S4 i337 > SafeRoot > SafeStrap 3.71 > HyperDrive RLS12
Tasker-ized
Would really like to know about this aswell
Specifically the G928i. Is this one bloatware free? I heard its from Australia but it does not specify which carrier. I already made the purchase, waiting for it to get here so there's no way back...
I thought the "i" stood for international, turns out the international version was the F.
Does anyone currently have the G928i in hand that could help me clear this things out?
Thanks
Hi ... I have the 928I as i'm now living in Australia and its with Telstra. There is bloat but looks like there wont be any custom roms from what I've read
I purchased the G928i and couldn't be happier. I had some Galaxy bloatware that comes with all S6 devices but no carrier bloat. Runs perfect on US ATT. It can also take CSC Firmware updates from MM1, SIN, STH and XSP. All of these are Singapore based firmware updates.
It's also easily rooted (trips Knox) but with no custom ROMs available currently. I'm getting approx. 10h sot with NFC, BT, WIFI running non-stop and no power saving mode.
So one fella says it has no carrier bloatware and the other was says it has.
I don't know who to believe ;/

You can call them and ask what Model IDs they have available. They had both a G928i and G928c when I ordered a week ago.
I am using G9287 seems not getting any high SOT for 6-7 like others usually around 5 or less not sure if dual SIM will use more energy but I am just using one card anyway

People need to be aware that the International market is not like the US market. Generally speaking we don't have custom versions of a phone, so all devices could be the same model, but the 'carrier' (network) may still lock it and install there own software.
So a 928i may be available as a generic unlocked phone with no carrier bloat, or it may be full of it. It all depends where it came from. In the UK models are usually locked and bloated if you bought direct from the network, but if you bought from a third party reseller (on any network) they are usually unlocked and bloat free.
Got my G928i, zero bloat, fully unlocked. pretty happy about it.
Went from a 4 inch(iphone 5) to a 5.7 screen, it feels enourmous, I like using my phone laying down at night at it feels awkward holding such a big phone now XD

Galaxy Note Fan Edition

Hi Guys,
Im on holidays in Asia and I found a Samsung dealer with stock of the Galaxy Note FE black onyx, international version (not the Korean), dual SIM (new).
Do you think it's worth it to buy them? I'm tempted to buy one and maybe sell one on eBay.
How much are they currently selling at? I just found some second hand ones on eBay.
Thanks!
Best regards

So I'm currently using the international note fe. I live in Malaysia so that's why it's the international variant.
I noticed when unboxing that it has a warning saying that this note fe can only be used with an sea sim card only.
There was a regional lock guide in it saying that this note fe is a sea model and only should be used with sea sim cards.
It also stated that to use sim cards from other regions, a cumulative call over 5 mins must 1st be made with a sea sim card. If a sim card from other regions is used for activation, the phone may not work.
Hi!
I guess yours is from a Malaysian carrier, the ones I saw here are being sold directly by Samsung, therefore there are no such limitations.

Which exact model number do you have? (S, K, L , F, F-DS)
If it's the F or F-DS, no SIM Unlocking is required.
If it's one of the Korean variants (S, K. L), it might be SIM locked, if the phone was purchased on contract & still has an outstanding balance.
The only other scenarios I can think of is that your service provider is selective in which phones it allows on their network, or, the phone just isn't compatible with your service provider.
If the phone is indeed SIM Locked, there's sites on the web that provide unlocking for a fee.If you end up having to go this route, contact the provider to make sure that they can indeed unlock your particular phone.

No, just the single SIM with SD Card slot.
I've had both the "S" & "K" versions (both single SIM), I'd imagine the "L" version is single SIM as well.

Battery life is fine,I can make it through a workday or weekend day w/no problem.
I don't have any real hard data,I haven't bothered for the last few years to pay attention, most phones do fine any more.
FWIW,here's some info on my set-up:
1) Four G-Mail accounts,all syncing all day.
2) Bluetooth: Samsung Gear S2 & I use a B/T headset (streaming Google Play Music) for 30-60 minutes per day.
3) I don't do social media,if you do,use the browser of choice instead.......I hear most (facebook) social media disease apps kill battery life. If the mentioned app(s) do OK for you, carry on.
4) Screen on-time varies, probably about 3hrs/day tops, you could easily get another 2-3 hrs before you see a low battery warning.
5) As for SIM usage,it seems to have little effect whether I use one or two.
With this typical usage,I still have anywhere between 30%-50% battery left after about 12 hrs total on-time.
If you have less, check your WI-FI/data connectivity & check your social media apps (if you use 'em) for battery usage.
I have the dual sim model too but I'm using a single sim and an sd card. I dont do facebook as well but will do instagram occasionally. morning full charge usually will end up around 30+ percent with around 6 hours of screen on time with whatsapp, wechat and instagram.
Samsung Galaxy Note FE SM-N935F SIM locked
Hello guys, i recenctly bought a Note FE and it is not working in my country. It says SIM Network pin blocked. Enter SIM network PUK. Please i need help
Its not your phone, it is the sim card locked probably because wrong pin was entered 3 times and now you need PUK code to unlock. If u still have the original plastic frame for your sim or paperwork it should contain the pin and puk codes otherwise u need to contact your telco
Unlocked Phone
Guys is there a website or a software that you insert the IMEI number and it does provide you with the code that the phone requires when you insert an overseas SIM in it.
This is the phrase that you might probably see when you insert a SIM card in a locked phone "SIM network unlock PIN" then you should enter 8 digit numbers. Did anyone manage to get such an issue solved?
The story similar to the other people, the phone was purchased from the Middle East, but it didn't work overseas, and the message above kept appearing when a SIM card is installed.
Steps of the solution:
Called the network provider, they said they can't do anything
Contacted Samsung overseas, they said you gotta contact Samsung in the place the phone was purchased.
Contacted Samsung in the place the phone was purchased, they haven't replied yet.
So if you have solved such an issue, please do share the solution with us.
Thanks,
Medo

Any Luck Activating Unlocked Flashed S20U5G on VZW?

I've been trying since Saturday but the network doesn't recognize the device, can't get them to whitelist the imei and they're saying my 988U1 is not compatible, it was a Sprint 988U to start
I bought the unlocked version from Samsung, did a Sim swap and everything works fine. You'll have to give Sprint a call, they like to lock IMEIs even after full device payment
Why didn't you just return it? Phone isn't even 14 days old... Carriers will not unlock a device for a couple months usually to "deter" theft.
I had no issues activating on Vz after flashing carrier firmware on my unlocked device. I didn't try it when it was unlocked so can't say on that. Why not flash it to the Vz firmware? There's a thread on it if you search for it.

OP said it was a Sprint 988U from the start, so either he's talking about software or device being from Sprint carrier. Assuming it's Sprint device since many people have had issues pertaining to locked devices from Sprint
If you activated it with sprint, how long would you have to use the device before they allowed you to unlock it,? EE UK usually makes it easy 6-9 money's depending on the handset but I think the Vs with Verizon and sprint is a little more competitive.
