How do I get a Bluetooth OBDII scanner to pair on this Android 10 head unit? - Android Head-Units

I just bought this Android 10 head unit from eBay, which claims OBDII support, and even shows a ELM327 Bluetooth scanner in the description. I have that exact same scanner. Problem is, I have no idea how to connect it to this unit. The seller isn't helping. I think it's a language issue, because he keeps answering in ways that have noting to do with my question.
If I go to Bluetooth, there is no option to list Bluetooth devises. I can connect my phone via Bluetooth without any problems, because I do that on my phone's end first. But with the ELM327, I can't do that (there are no buttons on it, you just plug it in). I need to do it from the head unit first, but there is no options that I can see. I installed Torque, but it won't work without first pairing the ELM327.
I know the ELM327 works for a fact in my car's OBDII. The pull-down menu doesn't list Bluetooth devices either. If I go into Settings/Bluetooth, the only options are auto connect and auto answer. Is this an Android 10 problem? Am I over-looking something? Please help. I may have to return it for false advertising.

Try going into the extra settings with pin 8888 206 5678 and under one of the menus you can select other options to put on your menu screen. Look for obd and select that. You can then pair from this

How do you go into extra settings? I've looked everywhere, does it specifically say "extra settings"?
Could this menu be it?

The little settings cog on that screen. Press that and enter one of the codes. Probably 8888. In this menu you need to find the options to add to your menu screen. You need ‘obd’
That’s how I did it

I have a similar question as well, i have been in my extra settings and I cant find any bluetooth

Thank you so much, it worked! There are so many extra hidden settings in there. Anything else useful?

If your referring to pairing to an obd device then you need to add ‘obd’ to your menu screen. I’m not sure which setting it’s under, if you have a look through you’ll find it

honestly I could careless about the odb2 I am just trying to connect different things to my unit, i tried headphones, odbii and the main thing I want connected is vero vn7500..its a ham radio

The question I think we should all be asking is, what version of Elm 327 does our head units require, and what version does our OBDii supply. Is it, ELM 327 V1.4, V1.5, V2.1, etc. I've read that V2.1 doesn't work well. Also, my phone uses BLE 4.0. That seems to work with my ELM 327 OBDII from Obdation. Here's a blog: https://blog.caristaapp.com/the-truth-about-obd-adapters-e98ddf022bf8 Both the article and the store I bought the elm 327 mini says something about Low Power. Well, the BLE 4.0 is Low Power. How can we determine if the Head unit, app and elm 327 supports low power or not?

That's not correct.
The truth about OBD adapters is not in that blog. These obd adapters are knock offs, using stolen IP/code.
The real issue is that the head unit resellers code code the units to require a specific obd knock off adapter that they sell.
New member, the information is covered in the forums, we can chose to read it, or not.

MarchNZ, thank you for your comment. I stand corrected. So, what's our recourse? Do we buy better products, root the device or give in to the cheap suppliers? While I've been researching the cause and fix of this problem, I went back to the supplier and asked how much their obdii adapter is. Honestly I bought an obdii from Obdation for $10. Bought the HU for $179 (dashradio on eBay). They want me to buy their obdii adapter for $69.00. The picture looks exactly the same. Have no way of knowing what's on their obdii. Is their away to see what's on it, like an Eprom reader or something?
Already ordered VieCar BlueTooth 4.0 Dual obdii adapter. My guess, which is probably pretty good, that won't work either. Thanks in advance for everyone's advice!

Genuine type OBD adapters exist, such as an OBDLINK type, SX = USB or LX = BT.
They may not work with cheap Chinese origin greybox Android head units without mods.
My unit is an MTCD type, using a USB OBDLink SX (USB), connects every-time and is blazing fast. The SX also works but is not as fast or reliable to connect.
More on fake ELM327 knock offs here: https://timyouard.wordpress.com/201...-counterfeit-elm327-obdii-adapter-from-china/

Hi, merry christmas to all!
I have a similar problem.
I am trying to install a Android 10 10" radio in my car.
The seller (CN) has no idea (they only want to sell, my guess)
I can't get any OBD dongle paired with the radio.
I found the hidden settings for BT by using the search bar in settings,
I set the code from 0000 to 1234, also unmarked the "auto connect" so I get the code input requester.
But while I am typing in the code, it disapears and tells me, code is not correct.
You can try it as fast you want, also to the point you only have to klick "ok" --- but it will not work.
I also tried a USB keyboard, so that onscreen keyboard will not interrupt.
Didn't help.
I show it in the video
Does anyone an idea? A special App?
Why do they make it so hard? They know, that many people want to use the Android device like it is able as a phone or tablet, specialy in a car with a OBD2.
IMO that’s deliberate with a bad mind making it harder and harder to use and config a system.
Then we also don't need the Playstore anymore, just bloodware the derives and the user has to eat it like it is. We are closer and closer to this situations.
What do the developer think? ANdroid is gettig worse and worse in the free usability.
Btw. my dongels I own myself:
- KONNWEI KW902
- vgate iCar Pro OBD2 Bluetooth 4.0(BLE)
And they work with all phones, tablets, laptops - also with DDT4ALL and other programs with no problems.
THANKS!

I have same issue with android 11

I used this

Bluetooth pairing - automated. Simply turn on Bluetooth and connect!
play.google.com
Even though my car doesn't seem to be connected or at least doesn't show it in the bar the odb2 works with the torque pro app.
And the only way I could reach the Bluetooth settings was with a Menu entry in the fcc launchers settings...
But that didn't help either because I didn't even get a "enter pairing code" prompt.
maybe that helps too...
Fcc Car Launcher - Apps on Google Play
Car Launcher for Android Head Units, tablets and phones

Last week a friend was on visit, I tested his OBD dongle, that is an older version but worked!
I ordered the successor modell, https://www.pearl.de/a-NX3014-1523.shtml but it doesn't work...
I am getting mad with this ..........
These Apps also don't help in any way, as the system behind can't understand the dongles.
Is this the product of incompetence from the Android Developer or did the Chinese srew it up?

Eonon Android 5.1.1 bluetooth issues & canbus issues

hi guys
new to the forum, hopefully someone will be able to help me
my unit has stock MTCC-KLD6-V2.97 Aug 02 2016 with a RK3188 and 1024x600 screen
Firstly the Bluetooth is not working, quite a lot of apps hang at the part where it try's to turn the BT on, especially one app i really need to work.
I honestly don't know what model of BT chip is installed in the head unit, apparently its BT 4.0 as listed on there website
I have been into the factory menu and changed the BT from WQ_BC6 to WQ_BC6B (as suggested somewhere in this forum) but it has made no change and the BT is still hanging at powering on.
Eonon have told me that the Bluetooth only work with devices that don't require a pin and the radar detector device i need to connect does not require a pin but still it does not work.
Not quite sure if eonon has set the setting wrong and i need to change it or i need to goto a custom rom or I need to pull the unit apart to find out.
Found someone else having trouble getting there ALPconnect app to work aswell on these units, in know ALPconnect wont work on older unit like the 4.4.4 as they only had BT 2.0 and the ALP BT only supports 4.0, but this android unit has 4.0 so it should not be a problem but it is.
sterod said:
The app I use, ALPConnect, does the exact same thing. Fortunately, the hardware on mine includes a hardwired speaker and GPS setup that work standalone. The benefit of the app was to get a nice big visual notification of a trap, as it would come into focus, duck the audio and play an alarm. It would also report the frequency of the radar and the type of laser hitting me. While I can get by without all that, I can't have the music blaring like I usually do, as the little speaker is only so loud and the Joying head unit doesn't have Mute Input wire to duck the audio.
While this is going slightly off topic, you may want to look into the AL Priority, it can interface with your V1 too and you will also gain laser protection. This thing has saved my a** countless times and paid for itself already many times over.

Secondly the control menu in the android head unit for accessing the cars buttons via cambus does not work, all steering wheels button seem to communicate back and work, but i cannot set my clock on my mazda 3.
Also have noticed that the radio wont mute when notification occur or when using other apps like google maps, no way to set the different volumes in this stock rom. Have played around with the factory menu volumes but it makes no diffidence.
Is it viable and worth changing to a different ROM, like Malaysk? or should i message eonon?
any help would be much appreciated
thanks

I'm having exactly the same issue with a Pumpkin MTCC-KLD6-V2.91. (RK3188/1024x600)
The device I want to pair with appears in Bluetooth settings (with a phone icon?) but connecting to it does nothing. It's just a Bluetooth SPP device, like so many other devices.
Malaysk's ROM (from 7/25) doesn't change anything here.
Any suggestions would be most welcome.

Waiting on a reply from Eonon, but initial news is not good.
Some serious BT issues in this model the MTCC
Anyone know if any Malaysk's Rom's avalable for the MTCC-KLD6-V2.91 that have no BT issues
I'm having the same issue, though my unit (MTCC KLD6) does not show any devices at all to pair with, and the car unit does not appear on my phone.
I'm wondering - if I take a usb BT dongle and attach it to the usb cable, would that work?
I think it might be another issue with your BT, it should connect to your phone at very least.
Have you had a look in your factory menu to see if the MCU has the Bluetooth option set?
Password for me was 126
Unfortunately the unit does not support external USB Bluetooth and probably never will, unless the manufacturer MTC/Klyde adds the required drivers to the unit or a Awesome developer by some stroke of luck here adds it to the unit. I doubt to see the feature in this unit

Thanks for the reply. Yes, i checked to make sure Bluetooth was enabled in the system settings. I've tried a few of them (change setting, reboot, attempt pairing), i guess the next step is to try them all one by one to rule that out. I've sent an email to the seller to see if they have any ideas.
The vendor told me to connect the Key-1 & Key-2 wires from the canbus to the car, not sure why they'd think that would solve BT issues?
Did this fix the issue? I'm unable to see any Bluetooth devices and other Bluetooth devices don't see it.
Sorry to dig up an old thread
I have the Eonon GA2180a (android 10) - and having similar issues to here
I want to pair a bluetooth remote (read, steering wheel controls) to the head unit, but the bluetooth search just shows blank! I can connect to it using my phone but it appears some things are hidden to connect to with these android units? Looks like the bluetooth 'app' is the only way to connect too, theres nothing in the android settings to access a bluetooth menu or anything.
Did anyone get anywhere with this ?
cheers

Finding the Joying Torque APK

Does anyone know where you can find the APK for the hacked Torque app uses to get around the Bluetooth connectivity issues (for the JY-UL135 if it matters) in the app with OBD readers? After I updated my head unit a while back, the app vanished (along with some other stuff, like the MirrorLink and such, oddly enough). I tried replacing it from the app store, but obviously that didn't work because of their stupid handling of the Bluetooth stack. I've scrounged around and so far have come up empty. I don't care so much about the other stuff, but having Torque was one thing I was really hoping to utilize.
are you still using the Joying ROM? it is in there somewhere. I forget if they have an "OEM" app or if that was Malaysk. But you can also use the APK installer app that is there and if you look at the head unit memory it will find the apk in there

Yeah, still stock. I'd thought about trying Malaysk's ROM, but was wary of the unstable state that it said it was in. I'll take a look. I know the tool you're talking about, I'll go dig around on it and see if I can find it somewhere and report back. Thanks!
You were right. The APKInstaller had them under OEM/apk. Unfortunately, I got no love from my OBD adapter as I'd hoped, so I guess that was an exercise in futility. Here's hoping they realize this is pretty much an issue for everyone trying to use OBD on their units and they patch it.
has yours worked before? I got a cheap one from Amazon and it worked with the Joying version of Torque.
I got this one to work:
https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00P...UTF8&psc=1
At first I could not see it. So I changed my Bluetooth password on the Joying to 1234 to match the OBDII. Then I had to disconnect my Samsung S7 Edge. Then when I searched I found the OBDII. I was able to connect it and reconnect my S7 Edge, and have both my phone and the OBDII adapter connected at the same time.

I've never had it work on the unit, but I hadn't tried until now when I realized the app had vanished. I have two readers, one is a bit bigger, the other is a smaller blue one just like the one on the Joying website. The bigger one has always worked with my phone. The smaller one doesn't even seem to work with my phone, so it might be that it's just straight up cheap, defective, Chinese crap in this case. I'll try changing the pin though and see if that helps.
I do see the communications lights flashing on it when the stereo is trying to get going with it, but it never manages to hook up.
you have to change the password on the Joying to match whatever the OBD is
Yeah, so this is neat. I got it working.
I DID have to change the password to 1234. But the funny part is, it still didn't work with the little blue dongle at first when I tested it. I moved back to my bigger one and connected it (worth noting, the blue one identifies itself as OBDII in the list, my big one is CBT - I mention this only because I've seen others report that the reader needs to be name OBD or OBDII). The little OBD icon didn't show up in the status bar this time, but Torque did see and connect to it without issue. So, not exactly how I thought I'd get there, but I found the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow after all.
Thanks for the suggestion, problem solved. Too bad I can't update the app. Part of me wants to see if I can get OBD Fusion to work on it (I like it better than Torque), but I suspect that'll be a fruitless endeavor.
I'm still trying to get mine to work changed password and see it as obdll but it just says paired device disconnected. Any ideas? I have the fy Android same as joying I guess thanks

Eonon GA6150 BlueTooth question

Hello xda people!
I recently purchased an eonon head unit for my E46 316i from ebay. Specifically a GA6150 (rk3188), which was sold together with a reverse camera.
I am really happy with my order, and pleased with the HU's performance. I managed to connect succesfully my OBD adapter, my bluetooth phone and my wifi hotspot and all is working great.!
Although, I found out something which bothers me. I have purchased a Bluetooth RGB LED controller from ebay, in order to DIY install some LEDs in the interior of the car, and I wanted to control them from my eonon android HU. I can control them through my S7 Edge Android phone via the app called Happy Lighting. I have found out that the manufacturer of these controllers is called Triones. So my problem is, that when I open the app, it asks me to turn on the bluetooth, and allows me to press one of two buttons, allow and deny. If I press allow, a message will appear saying: "Turning on Bluetooth" or something like that, with a spinning wheel, indefinately. It will not stop and it will stay like this all the time, making the app useless, making me press home button to exit. All this happens, even though I know that bluetooth is actually on (I havent yet found an on/off switch for Bluetooth, so I suppose it is always on). If I press deny, then I can enter the app, but I am not able to see any of the bluetooth controllers, is there any way, to make the app think that the bluetooth is on? Or actually turn it off or anything? Would you please help me figure out what should I do? And one last question, is how can I change my screen orientation from landscape to portrait?
I will attach a photo of the details for the version of my Head Unit.
This is the link of the HU I purchased from ebay: http://r.ebay.com/aegMSa
And this is the link to the controller: http://r.ebay.com/aDfflI
While this is the app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.qh.Happylightgoogle&hl=en
Thank you very mych for your time!
Yep had 3 Paypal disputes with Eonon about that issue a year ago on a MTCB unit, I would imagine it would be the same with the MTCD
I think they route all Bluetooth information through the MCU and use non standard configuration of their Bluetooth drivers. So applications that ask to turn the BT on cannot as it is not configured that way.
This is something they were not willing to fix or were unable to.

First of all thank you for your reply, i really appreciate it.!
Second, damn it. Damn them! That is really frustrating, i've managed to find a bit more info digging around here and in russian forums. It's sad that i cannot use anything else via bluetooth other than a few OBD adapters and my phone..
I will shortly contact Eonon for my MCU update file and see if anything can be done there. Otherwise, i will see if anything can be fixed via a custom rom and xposed stuff.
P.S.: If there was any other android HU that could support full BT, i would gladly return my Eonon and buy that instead..

Joying intel Sofia units is a bit better with the BT, but do some research first.
Good luck with Eonon
From memory it to do with kernel drivers and BT stack and they would not fix
Also be careful with Eonon and returns, additionally PayPal protection does not cover car audio products.

I would like to connect bluetooth accessories to my eonon new android 10 head unit (2020) - the above looks familiar as i cannot seem to 'find' the devices when searched for using the strange bluetooth 'app'.
Is there anything that can be done? I'd like to add a bluetooth remote (alternatiev to steering wheel controls) - but its not detected by the HU

SWM8802 Bluetooth settings missing

Hi,
I've just purchased one of these head units for my car. I can connect my phone to it via Bluetooth just fine for calls and music, but I want to connect the head unit to my ODB2 bluetooth dongle so that I can create a Torque dashboard for it.
However, when I go to the general settings, Wifi is listed but Bluetooth is not. I've searched and searched but there is no way for me to connect the head unit to a Bluetooth device. I've tried various third party apps that claim they are able to enable Bluetooth and connect to devices, but they all just seem to hang when I try to enable Bluetooth. Tried a system reset too, but that Bluetooth option is still missing from the settings menu.
Please can anyone help?
G
I'm also interested in knowing this. Torque doesn't seem to detect my bluetooth ELM327 at all. I also attempted to connect a USB-based ELM327 module, and Torque seems to detect it, but it doesn't work beyond that, and the headunit gives me a low-power warning light.
Hi did you get anywhere with this I have the same problem can't get Bluetooth options to show
I have exactly the same problem. I'm running a PX5 unit from Witson. Custom built for a Koleos. MCU is not a standard MTC device. I have no bluetooth option available in the settings and the stock bluetooth app does not display any search option whatsoever. It seems that it broadcasts itself for other devices to detect it but you can't search for devices. Seems like they may be handling the bluetooth via the MCU directly and not via android which is strange because they openly claimed that this device was compatible with the OBD II dongle that I purchased. They even shipped it in the same package. Will keep looking and post if I find anything.
I had the same problem with a different Chinese head unit. Solved by buying a WiFi ELM327 dongle which connected fine with the head unit's built-in WiFi.
Update to my earlier post...I managed to get mine working over BT with the WITSON unit. In the end I had to disconnect my phone completely and reboot the unit. Then I found a search option on the dialer page. Searching found the OBD II module and I was able to pair with it. After I was paired with it I was able to add my phone again and both can run in parallel. I have not been able to test much but it seems like this continues to work until the unit goes into a deep sleep and shows the startup logo again. If that happens then I need to go through the learning process again. Meh...
Hi friend, just a question, in the dialer where did you find the search option I cant find it in my android radio??
If you have the swm 8802 you cannot connect to obd2 this requires bluetooth 4 and the 8802only support bluetooth 2
Always Connect ODB First
The ODB readers are a tad picky but they connect using the same menus as any other BT hardware (headset, speaker, etc). First, turn on the car ignition, do not start.
2. Make sure no other BT equipment is connected to the head unit or even on & near by.
Next, place the head unit in searching/Discovery mode and then & only then plug the ELM BT Module into the car ODB II Port. Most cars must be 96 & newer. 95 GM with for the plug but won't work. They're usually ODB 1.5, don't ask, your screwed.
Finally wait for the module to pop up and ask for the code, it's 1234 not 0000.
After your paired, THEN open Torque and let it connect. Don't start the vehicle till the car icon stops flashing.
You should be good to go from then on. If you ever have problems after that. Make sure the app is totally closed, force stop and then follow this procedure again.

the original question wasn't answered and I have that problem too. I don't have a Bluetooth discovery/search option anywhere. the small bluetooth-like icon on the main panel just changes the color of the leds.
so can't connect new phone. although Bluetooth seems to be working, since an older phone, already paired, is still working.
Following this as my head unit is same. Theres no blietooth menu/option but it connects to a phone.
Ive tried a third party bluetooth manager but all that says is bluetooth disabled by admin??
A fix
That happened to me trying to add and ODB2 bt dongle. I had to use the app for bluetooth linking provided by the head unit. When I purchased the unit, I changed the bluetooth discovery and pairing code to 0000. Well, changing it to 1234 allowed me to add the ODB dongle.
I saw it on a YouTube video, and well, it worked for me. (And no, no native bluetooth option, came disabled for my unit as you said)
Hope it works for you too.

Change the pair code in the bluetooth custom app provided, to 1234 and try again.
I had this happen and I think I figured it out.... in factory settings there's an option to choose bluetooth connect automatically or with pin. I checked with pin and was able to pair. I think the options are reversed in the settings
I have the same problem i can't connect to the android 7.1 car head unit any more , the bluetooth setting is missing , the wifi settings appear but bluetooth doesn't appear any more
Anyone can help me to fix this issue please ?

I bought a bluetooth usb adapter and I can't select it on the system. I think this would be the way out, but we need to replace the driver inside android. Does anyone have any ideas?

I have a Teyes Spro with the same Bluetooth issues as most on this post describe. Did you find an answer to your usb adaptor to solve the Bluetooth problem? I was told to add a line to the config.txt file but cannot locate where to access that to add it.
Bought a Teyes Spro headunit and I have a problem with Bluetooth discovery on my obd II and tpms modules. Does anyone know what is in the "Developer" tab? It is password protected not accessible. The 168 factory access code does not work for it. Anyone know the password?

Identify android head unit with BT problem

Hello! I've got Winca W2-RL1051 Android 9 Head Unit. Unfortunately I can use bluetooth connection with my iPhone only. OBDII adapters (I've tried four models) don't create a pair with it. Head unit finds it, requirea password, writes "Connect OK", but it doesn't work in Torque or Hobdrive. I hope the problem is in soft.
I attach HWGEtInfo.zip from my head unit. Can anyone tell me what to do?
Thanks in advance!

Based on the HWGetInfo you do have a FYT compatible unit.
Does the name of your OBD device start with OBD or Gooddriver? If yes, it should be able to pair. If your OBD device has a different name you can forget it (although you might still try #14 of my Q&A thread)
Secondly: These units are quite stupid. What is the pincode you need to pair your OBD? If it is different from the standard pin code (1234 I think) of your unit, then change the pin code of the unit to the OBD pin code.
First unpair your iphone (same for android phones btw) and completely forget it.
Then (try to) pair your OBD device.
Then pair your phone again.

Thank you. The name of my device is 'OBDII". I tried, but it doesn't work. Maybe it's because of I don't know how to completely forget my iphone after unpairing. There ain't such option in Settings menu, Should I root my head unit?

No. rooting your unit doesn't make a difference at all.
Does your phone see it and can connect to it when you plug the OBD device in your car?

Yes, OBD device works ok with android phone and tablet. No problems at all.
Head unit can connect with phones only. It doesn't see another bluetooth devices (e.g. remote controller).
Settings -> Car settings -> Extra settings (password 123456) -> Config info ->
If the checkmark is in the BC6 checkbox, then you need to deactivate it and select BC8.
If BC8 is selected, then deactivate BC8 and change it to BC6, reboot the device,

There's no such options in the settings of my head unit, alas.
Literally have the same problem with you bro.
My headunit is 8227L china crap
Literally having same issue and also 2 of my friend's with our new head unit.
My headunit is a RK3399 PX6 from Sygav.
Obd2 shows in bluetooth menu but won't connect ever after using code 0000 and 1234.
Have the same issue. Gave up, return all OBDII bt devices. I saw a video by Charlston. He said Bluetooth obdII has to be in top level. So if you have multiple devices, remove and forget them and put the OBDII first (first position). If you get it working than put your smart phone in. Will try to add his link.
Anyone have problems with the Rear Defroster/rear defogger not working? It worked with my original unit. Guessing the wirings incorrect on the new Allwinner T3 I bought. XRC-403 2019 04 12. Guessing that's the number on the back of the unit. I have a Single Zone.
Can you help me connect Bluetooth obd2 adapter with Nakamichi android car stereo. The Bluetooth settings in the unit does not have the option to change the password which is 0000.All my obd adapters use 1234.Please help.
Also the joying unit in my other car connects with adapters that only have obd2 as their internal name..
