Quick Tip- Take 108MP photos with native lens options - Samsung Galaxy S20 / S20+ / S20 Ultra Guides, News

You can use the native lens options -Ultra Wide - Normal - 5x with 108MP. Just switch to 4:3 (Non 108) select the focal length (must be a non digital zoom) then select 4:3 108MP. You cannot switch between lenses while in 108MP mode.
Just though I'd throw that out there I have heard ppl saying it crops when changing to 108MP. But I think it is just selecting a native lens.

No Camera Zoom

I am not sure if the camera is suppose to zoom, but when i am in camera mode with the camera setting I cant zoom in or out. It stays at 1.0x. when i click on the up or down arrow it just beeps.
when in another camera mode i can zoom.
anybody have this problem?
mine zoomed the first time i tried, but not it just beeps like yours.
It uses a digital zoom, so make sure your resolution is not set to 2MP or you will not be able to zoom. Anything under should be fine
yeah that did the trick...lowering the resolution.
Just so you know, lowering the resolution and zooming doesn't gain you anything over using 2MP mode. Digital zoom is basically just cropping, so when you're on a lower res, it lets you zoom to the 2MP level, and just crops it.

HDR Modes

What is the difference between the two HDR modes in the camera? One is auto HDR, one is just HDR...
I presume its just like the flash and auto flash, when u choose HDR it forces the shot to be taken with HDR while auto HDR would only be applied if needed.

Back camera partially broken?

Hello,
I have the stock Oreo rom and I'm using the stock camera app .
I have the phone since a couple months and I find the pictures of low quality when taking close-up pics. (A pictures of a keyboard will give me blurry letters numbers for example)
In the stock camera, I have no option like portrait mode, 2x zoom or dual watermark.
In most 3rd party app, the default camera is the front one.
For what I've tried in manual mode if I zoom in and out with a finger on one of the two camera I only get an image from the telephoto one and not from the wide-angle one.
Could it be that one of the 2 camera is not working or do I need to do something to enable something?
Should I sent it in warranty?
Regards,
Better you attach a screenshot of stock camera missing the features
I don't have the option "dual camera" that you can see on the top of this photo:

I neither do have the blue icon at the top of this photo:

I've seen also in xiaomi forum that the default back camera is the wide-angle and that 3rd party app can't access the telephoto lens.
In my case the default camera is the telephoto lens and some 3rd parties app can't access my back camera.
Same happened with me, so I went to setvice center and they replaced both the cams. There is no other way. It is going to get worse day by day. My Telephoto lens was working fine but the standard one was taking blurry photos. At first it wasn't noticable but then it became more and more blurry.
You should take it to service center

Portrait Resolution?

When using portrait mode (not the full body) images come out at 4000x3000 even though it's using the telephoto lens (i confirmed by putting something in front of it to block it)
How is this possible if the resolution of the sensor is only 3264x2448?
Portrait mode doesn't actually use the telephoto lens. You'll need to manually switch to it in Pro mode to use it. (or just use gcam)
When in portrait mode when in viewfinder i cover the telephoto lens and it blocks the viewfinder so how is it not using the telephoto lens?
And how do i use portrait mode in pro mode that doesn't make sense?
And i just took a portrait picture while covering the main lens and it still worked so it's definitely not using the main lens for portrait (in daylight at least)

Wider field of view in record

I've turned off video stabilization.
When I record a video from the photo mode (ultra wide) by long pressing the shutter button, it seems to record in a wider field of view with a resolution of 1920 x 1440.
When I head into video mode and try any resolution, it's not as wide.
Any reason behind this? Anyway that I can get this field of view by default in video instead of going through photo mode shortcut?
Thanks
Welll .. in video mode it is croping in the center for 4k resolution (about 8MP of 12MP of the sensor) and for 16:9 aspect ratio.
When you keep your finger on the shutter in photo mode, it uses the entire senzor downscaled to FHD+ resolution with 4:3 aspect ratio.
(16:9 -> 1920:1080)
(4:3 -> 1920:1440)
This is how also camera makers are "cheating" sometimes as well ...
For example, Canon's 4k has the same issue .. it is having a crop, compared with FullHD.
You can try the following tests on your device:
1. Put it in exactly the same place for all the tests.
2. Switch in settings to FullHD resolution for back cameras
3. Do a :
- photo in ultrawide
- keep on shutter button in photo mode in ultra wide
- go to video ultrawide (FHD) and record a video
4. Do the same, but in 4k for back video
5. Compare the videos, and you will see the crop in 4k, but not that big in FullHD.
All 3 video from step 3 will have the same width of the frame .. only the video done in video mode will be missing some parts on the lower and top side, as it is cropped to 16:9.
4k video from step 4 will be cropped as it is doing a real 4k readout in the center of the sensor.
I hope this helps you.
