get a launcher from the playstore.
i like FCC and CarWebGuru (i'm using the latter) just download and install and select "always use as homescreen".
you might not be able to find the radio, bluetooth, tpms and other stock apps in the drawer anymore.
if that is the case you need to install the correct apk's to get them visible in your app drawer again.
here are the apk's: http://www.mediafire.com/file/14sodhuv8mvl7g6/stock_apps_for_AHU_%288227L%29.zip/file
download, unzip and copy the needed apk's to your usb stick or sd card.
insert the card/stick in your Head unit browse to the files, click install apk.. and BAM! full working stock apps!

Thanks. That is very helpful.
The stock apps on my device are quiet bad. The BT app for example does not sync properly, does not support favorites and has very poor functionality and UI.
How can I change a stock app to a better one ?

Welcome to the forum. So as you have probably started to notice, the unit you've bought is not up to expectations but fear not, there are plenty of optimizations that can be done to improve the user experience. Feel free to visit this thread for inspiration and of course software that can help you on this journey. And check out the video in my signature that will demonstrate a lot of these improvements.

Hi everyone. I have 8227l demo android headunit in my car running on android Go 8.1. It has 2GB RAM, 32GB ROM (have verified that it really has these specs). All apps run fine but Google Maps app works very slow, lags too much. Kindly anyone guide me how to fine tune the headunit for a better & smooth speed of Google Maps working. Thanks

This is a common problem with these units in general. What you need is a modified firmware then root. You can speed up your head unit considerably this way.
Check out the video in my signature and at 1:54 you can see the speed of Google Maps but on a 1Gb RAM unit.

Apologies, I thought I was replying to another post with similar question. I don't have anything for 2Gb RAM units, is what I was meaning to say. But there are plenty of stuff for your device out there.

What can I do with my device to get the best out of it? What do you recommend bro?

Hi,
I installed Joying android unit JY-UQS03N4G, and it worked okay. But now it does not recognize both the USB ports and Im unable to connect via USB.
Your advise appreciated.

Got it back. Ran 'factory reset' and both USB s working properly.

Well, it all depends on your skill level. Here is what I'm doing to these devices as part of my charity project (you can find more info here)
HARDWARE MODS
1. Installation of TDA7729 sound processing chip (if not present) - without it Fade and EQ do not work
2. Boost the sound quality of the onboard radio and sound effects (exchanging SMD components)
3. Installation of TDA7850 amplifier powered by external 18v power supply (custom built by myself) as well as replacement of capacitors controlling the bass and the treble. Active, temperature-controlled cooling system with additional heatsinks to ensure the proper heat dissipation - this requires modding the case internally as well.
4. WIFI antenna - increasing the average download speed from 1-2 Mbit to 30-40 Mbit
5. Vastly improving the microphone quality by removing the internal mic and replacing it either with a better internal mic or an external one.
6. Proper heatsink on the CPU that feeds into the aluminium case
SOFTWARE MODS
1. Installation of custom firmware (normally publicly available on 4PDA)
2. TWRP recovery
3. Root
4. Viper4Android - massive sound improvement in combination with the TDA7850 mod described above
5. Custom UI and startup logo (boot animation)
6. Speed hacks using root to greatly improve the performance of the head unit
Much more can be done as well, things like installing SDcard reader, AHD chip, RDS radio and other cool stuff.
Hope this answers your question

XBMC Tegra2 Build

I managed to get a build of XBMC working on Tegra2's including the A500.This only works for SD content currently and hardware decoder support will be necessary to get 720p and 1080p support.
Please note the Tegra2 is an unsupported platform currently.
DO NOT post builds to VANILLA builds. They WILL NOT run on Tegra2 devices.

If you receive a flickering screen after the update, clear the application cache and reboot the device. This may need to be done more than once.

Found it cool let me know if I can help in any way cheers wondering is audio choppy on your a100? Audio is choppy and video tends to get out of sync and a bit of stutter even on sd video. On the plus side the touched skin works well with this build
Awesome! Awesome!
Works like a charm on my A500. Installed some plugins and my fav NAVI-X. Its 3am and I need some sleep. So I will continue to play around with it over the next day or so.
XBMC on Android takes it to the next level on tablets
One thing I did notice was the volume level seems to be in the low side even after I cranked everything up.
srry to be ignorant but what exactly is xbmc for? is it just basically a media player?

I found the volume very low until I maxed it out and then went into XBMC. IIRC the XBMC volume is independent of the device volume. The xbmc volume also has a large number of levels, I find it easier to adjust the volume within the app by holding down volume up / down.

I have had good and bad success with SD content depending on container format, movement and other factors that tend to pop up with video encoding. 720p is close, it looks like the Tegra2 devices will need hardware decode support for 720p or 1080p based on the framerates I was seeing.

You need to add a source. When it pops up you will want to select "root filesystem" instead of "sdcard". This will let you navigate to the external sd card mount point. Usually somewhere under /mnt. In my case it is /mnt/external_sd on CyanogenMod.
Works great on my A500!
Great build already
Kinda works on my toshiba thrive have to tap a cupple times to get stuff to work
At the risk of sounding the fool, does anyone here know how to:
A.) Change the time zone. It says it's 1:47 AM tomorrow on my a500.
B.) Change the weather from celsius to farenheit? Here in the US, C is weird. I see 28 degrees & expect to need my snow shovel.
Thanks!

I believe these options are somewhere under the settings pages. The XBMC wiki has pretty good information on how to adjust the various settings.

Are you using the default skin or the touch optimized skin? The touch optimized skin does a better job than the default. However, they are still working out some quirks with touch.

This is an awesome start for this on the A500. If and when this works fast and efficiently on my tab, it will replace a lot of different apps I use to do the job that just this one can do For now, I will just keep tweaking it as best I can and see where I can go with it. Thanks to the folks working to make XBMC on the A500 a possibility.

I installed it and have been on the road, haven't had time to really do much other than install some apps,
I got update files from my seller but didn't test them yet... The file naming suggests they are encrypted like the. An-21u's if I remember right the encryption got figured out at some point, I'll have to research it when I get some time
Other things I found out so far:
- USB keyboard/mousd doesn't seem to work
- sub out only works with radio, nor poweramp Pandora Bluetooth or even built in music app. I ended up connecting my subwoofer amp to the rear channel
- hard drive works, I use a 128gb solid state hd.
Some apps are not compatible according to play store but can be side loaded (eg. Tablet talk and if I remember right poweramp), some are compatible according to play store but force close (eg gmail and weatherbug)
that's all I got so far, I thought I was buying another an-21 identical to the one I already have because I knew what to do and don't have too much time lately and here I am with the latest...

Somebody (you?) posted the same file "4.4syestem.zip" in the AN-21U dual core thread a couple of days ago, and I got it already investigated by a real expert for this. It turned out (in the emulator) that it's the dual core firmware. You could double check - maybe something went wrong.

Did you check whether the system update files were somewhere on the unit? I couldn't find them on mine...
One more comment: My seller always told me that the firmware in the quad core would be the same as in the dual core. When comparing Sciallo's quad core files to my dual core files then there is only 1 significant difference: libandroid_runtime.so (of course the stock app apks are also different but this is not important here).
I'm no Android expert but I could imagine that only some native libraries would have to be modified for the new quad core hardware.
Would i.e. a new libandroid_runtime.so be sufficient?
I will try to contact my seller. I wonder if there could be differences between units. Since they all have the same hardware I doubt it but multiple sources might be helpful.
Got Root rights program: KingRoot , it is permanent.
nice, this is the unit I was looking at on ali express. What I don't understand is looking at the R16 on google, it looks to be a quad core A7, not quad core A9. Can someone link me to the specs of the R16?

how is BT audio quality? How is mic quality?
Have been playing more. I haven't come across any incompatible apps. However I have noticed Easy Connect doesn't work most of the time and Bluetooth connect is glitchy.

Wrong unit. I have seen that unit before, but its not any of these, however it is another Hybrid unit of the AN-21U
Quadcore Unit (Tontek)
Here's some more info/video from me regarding the quad core unit. I also own a dual core unit from the same manufacturer (Tontek), and I have to confess that the quad core is just superior in any way. My main expectation was that the unit performs faster and that apps like Poweramp and Sygic are running reasonably now - this I just can confirm now. Basically, Tontek seems just to have adjusted the firmware to make it run with the new hardware but all apps look / behave the same as on the dual core. Unfortunately, the seller did not provide the system update files to have a closer look into the firmware (i.e. to check if Red Mod could be adjusted to run on the quad core).

I have noticed that these units vary in the AN-21U updates,
For example: http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Tonghai_Create_AN-21_U#Versions
My Unit runs the update "System Version 2.6.40". Now of course these numbers will not match up with the quad core unit's numbers since all these updates have been modified, however they all vary in which update they carry. Now what does this mean? I don't know. Yet...
I can confirm that kingroot works, @imableeblob you might want to update the first post

I've been getting the usual Chinese stalling techniques from my seller. Still on it and they're still promising to provide the update files.... we'll see.

New Pumpkin HU with Parrot Bluetooth

Has anyone bought one and how do you feel about it?

11-RQ0364E: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01B4DGDB6
No difference
I've one and the microphones are still in parallel so I had to cut the front
mic to get decent sound from the external. Not worth it.
I've asked a bunch of question a week ago and they promise answer within 24h. No response yet.
I like the home screen it's nice. One of my questions concern the icons on the home screen. They
seem not to be replaceable.

Did you contact Pumpkin by emails on Aamzon?
I have also asked them some questions, very pleased with great service. And I'm planing to buy one with Parrot Bluetooth, but thank you.
OS: Android 4.4 Kit Kat
CPU: Rockchip PX3 Cortex A9 Quad Core 1.6GHz
RAM: DDR3 1GB
Nand Memory: 16GB
Radio IC:NXP TEF6686
Bluetooth IC: Parrot FC6000TN
Audio output: 4*50W max
Screen Resolution: 1024*600
Cold Boot time: about 25-30s
Just FYI-
I have this unit: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01B2JNF2C?tag=xdadevelopers-21
While everything else is impressive, bluetooth still sucks at the moment. Volume gains are terrible, and the MIC is still low. I have to literally crank my sound to 30 before i hear a heavily static'y and distorted conversation.
I did see a youtube video demo by pumpkin that did not seem to have my issue, so im wondering if i may have a bad chip. Don't get your hopes up too much though!
My experience in another thread: http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showpost.php?p=8902358&postcount=57
UPDATE:
Most all issues have been resolved after some back and forth and rom updates:
Fixed:
Bluetooth sound is now separated from other sounds. So now bluetooth volume control now works properly and comes through loud and clear.
Still not perfect:
The MIC kind of sucks. People struggle to hear me clearly, but it does work. Not a deal breaker for me, but I wish it was better. It would probably be a lot better if i cut the internal mic cable on the deck and just use the external one
My steering wheel controls work most the time. Sometimes they are not responsive. Honestly though, I believe that this is an issue with my Scosche head unit adapter for my car. It is known to be a problematic piece of ****.

I had an answer which didn't make wiser. Sent another question about the bad BT sound. Also about
the fixed icons on the home screen. I like to put my own icons there, but it's hardcoded and can't be changed.
The DAB-radio works excellent, but you can't upgrade to the 1.5 for better layout since it's a system apk.
I'm not happy with what they call an improvement.

There are pictures on Pumpkin's web-page. Or is it any specific picture?
Had a late reply again. Icons on home screen are hard-coded. They will ask
factory to change, will never happen of course. Neglected to answer question about BT-audio.
If you buy try to buy via Pay-Pal so you have a free return.

The installation is on hold since the FW is not up to the standard of my now fitted KLD. The BT is no improvement, the Icons are not an improvement either.
DAB firmware old style and so on.
The size is standard Chinese DIN size and not real DIN size. It wont fit in a standard DIN that's for sure.
Ive got this unit installed for couple of days
The price is ok for what you get.
Currently found flaws:
Does not fit very well in a standard Double din frame.
DAB application is annoying, desperately need the 1.5 somehow installed,
Bad reception with the 3g-module ordered from autopumpkin. This is in a dutch Metropolitan Area
Only mastervolume , no application specific volume control. you cannot hear google maps above radio/dab/mp3
perhaps someone can answer this:
Is there a custom rom available (malaysk?) (its KDL6) for this device?
This Mine installed in a Skoda Octavia

I have the RQ0364E since jannuary and have no problems. The fm radio works much better how with my old Erisin and also the bluetooth works very very well without a microphone. I only don`t like the original apps and launcher, so I installed all the KGL apps and modded the Dab-app a little bit to the KGL-style. You can download it here if you want: https://mega.nz/#F!69JH3SwZ!G30W-fliypsgxOMw6NigBg
I have already a newer version with grey background when you press a station button and white font instaed of the pink one. I can also upload it if you are interested. The Dab reception mostly also works well, but it would be nice if there would be an app wich switches between FM and Dab.

If I understand you right, you want to change the icons in the original launcher?
Thats no problem.
First you need to root your unit, install apk extractor from play store, extract the launcher and put it on your computer. Then you have to download the APK Image Themer: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2579389
After that you have to decompile the apk with the program, go to res/ drawable... and there then you can change the icons or also make the background, how the kgl launcher has it invisible. After changing you need to decompile the apk and also sign it.
Then you can install it on your unit.

I would screw up half way, trust me. I tried to copy the launcher to my Malaysk's unit, but it only works halfway. The main page doesn't appear.
The other pages with Pumpkin's icons work.
So the Malaysk firmware is compatible with this device or not? Can anyone give a one word answer?

I've noticed that these things are becoming popular and I thought why not make one for my Android head unit?
(I have Intel Sofila 3GR variant)
After doing some research in Computer Vision and hacking UIServer app, I'm happy to announce that it works
You can see a live demo in my youtube channel - https://youtu.be/bRYOB4MqHmo
The solution is software only:
1. it uses a computer vision algorithm that I've created that changes the perspective of the rear camera to top view.
2. A simple, analog, 480TVL video camera is enough for this algorithm! which means no hardware mods are needed!
3. An initial calibration process per camera per car is needed (usually takes 5-10 minutes)
4. In addition to the top, 360 view, it also undistorts fisheye lens!
It translates rear camera view:
into top camera view, with a memory of previously seen space:
Hope to release the app when it will be steady enough.
Until then, I've ordered a PX5 CPU based Android for better performance.
Looks promising!
Not bad. Keep going and updating.
thanks!
I've did some retouches, now it looks even better - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dzpn0ROKkX8
What's the CPU load like when that's running ? I presume you have added the usual heatsinks & fan to your Joying ?
All original hardware, no extra heatsinks (its 20-5 Celsius out here right now).
It runs 2 threads at full speed so it takes like 50% cpu load (100% for each thread that runs on an individual core).
Holy f**k this looks amazing. I would love to try it out (got a joying PX5 unit).
This is awesome ! Any release soon ? even if it's beta
You will have the self driving car manufacturers paying you billions for this soon ?
can't wait to try this!
any updates on this?
I have "Joying SC9853i",
would be nice to try this app !!
hope you will release it for Joying SC9853i !!
Hi, sorry for not updating for a while, it's not easy to find free nights for that project.
I've stabilized the code a bit but it still isn't good enough for releasing it - it jerks when reversing too fast and my analog backup camera has a very poor and noisy quality which doesn't help either.
Another issue I'm facing is that in order to listen to reverse gear interrupt I have to do dedicated reverse engineering for each model which isn't trivial.
What I do have and will update soon is more videos, I've added a feature for recording the top view perspective. It does work perfectly in many scenarios and even OFF ROAD! which is very cool!

Is your joying active cooled? may help with the jerking.
Why listen for the reverse and not just use it as an app first, and listen for that intent later?

1. I want it to be automatically - as soon as I hit reverse gear I want to see that top view (and that's what we have now ).
2. not only this interrupt needs special treatment per different MCU model, but also getting the video feed is not always trivial. Those Chinese manufacturers aren't using Android HALs as they should be using. That means - I can't just open an android Camera view and see the reverse camera (in Joying luckily it is like that, but in others like ALLWINNER its sucks, need to hack into some process and send it a proprietary IPC message)
3. I haven't modded it for cooling but it has some fan in there. I'm in a hot country (32 celsius easy) so it might worth a try because sometimes FPS is high and sometimes very low without any good reason.

2: I'm running this rom but can't see the reverse camera on my device unless I supply power to the "back" wire.. So I'm curious if it would work with mine.
3. I've got a joying single DIN and it just overheats on the regular (Dutch weather, so not that hot) and it thermal throttles a lot or just shuts off/boot loops because of it, and I've ordered a cooling kit online.. so it's likely

AC8257 base unit - new Firmware + MCU update with Android 11 & Android Auto wireless

Hi,
After struggling hard to find how to update my unit (what doesn't seems possible with USB key in my case ; only with a MicroSD card), I finaly did it.
This new system is Android 11 based, and allow to connect to Android Auto wireless, sounds good uh?
My unit is AC8257 based, and has 8 core, 64 GB ROM, 4 GB LPDDR4 RAM @ 1024x600, but the upload also contains 800x600 & 1280x720px, there is .BAT files that make easyier to pick up the good Android_scatter file.
Here is where I come from first :

Do you know if this fixes the issue on the factory Android 10 firmware with the accessibility services being deactivated even though I've disabled the apps from battery optimisation?
Hi,
the accessibility menu is available, but how to ensure the service is running?

It's the downloaded services that show up under the accessibility menu from other apps like for AppMgr III, macrodroid, bitdefender and most reboot apps. On my unit that came with Android 10, these services get automatically disabled by some task manager or something.
The killing app system you mention might be DuraSpeed, that's supposed to free up RAM. When my unit was Android 10 based, I had a menu to disable it, not sure it's still the case, gonna check Asap.

Oh is that what Duraspeed is. I thought there must be some other/extra task manager killing it off but I was only looking at other apps that might be doing it. I'll look at disabling it. Do you think the android 11 firmware is better, do you like it more than 10?
Was Google maps slow to open or to start navigation after you enter an address on your old firmware or is it faster on 11?

I think the Os is better, for few reasons:
- a bit faster on startup, I set it up to auto launch Waze when it boot, whats seems to be done easyly.
- better UX, you can choose between 4 layouts for the launcher, and one of them offer the possibility to personnalize 4 or 5 apps shortcus from main screen, what I found really usefull in daily use.
- Android Auto that can work wirelesq, even if I now realize Android Auto is useless when you have an Android unit.. you can do more straight from the unit (if connected online) than thru limited features offered by Androïd Auto.
about Maps delay, hard to say as I mainly use Waze, i don't have enough track records with G Maps on this unit, that I only receive 1 or 2 weeks ago...
I'll add a few screenshots of the launcher, do you want to see particular screens/menu?

I think I might know of the 4 launchers. From an xyauto bundle?? Hopefully which is this one as it's the only one I've found that's even close to the type of layout I need and I was going to try and force load it in the morning on the current firmware.
I wonder who made the original firmware you had that listed the hardware as ac8257, but now you have the bosion b200 firmware I think with android 11, as my factory Android 10 firmware is the b200 already.

How did you go checking if Duraspeed is still part of the android 11 firmware? Do you have any downloaded services under accessibility and do they stay enabled?
I disabled it and the downloaded services stay enabled after a reboot now but something still turns them off once the system has been running/idle for a while.
What do you have to do once you've downloaded the firmware. Do you run some bat files on the PC first?

Hi,
After struggling hard to find how to update my unit (what doesn't seems possible with USB key in my case ; only with a MicroSD card), I finaly did it.

Below, a picture of the app/system that detect that my phone is close by and ready to pair with Android Auto. I first had to connect it with wire to show him the way. It now seems automatic.

The file doesn't have all the scatter files for the other bat files. Looks like you saved/uploaded just what was created after you ran the 1024x600 bat file.

hi,
oh. it seems this package is already set for 1024px (vendor did it) but it's easy to adjust
what's your resolution?

Thanks, I managed to work it out and unfortunately this new firmware hasn't fixed/changed my issue with the downloaded services being disabled. But has now added an issue of the hotspot enabling rather than wifi after every reboot even though I've disabled carplay (which seems to be what triggers it)

hi,
i manage to disable this autowifi turn off/ tethering turn on.
on my side it was caused by Android Auto that detected my phone nearby (phone already associated thru wire), i turned off wireless settings on Android Auto on my phone (s20) and it stop turning off my wifi on every reboot.
about the launcher 4 display, are they same than on your prev system?

No, I just had the 1 'ugly' UI on the factory firmware. Not using Android auto on my phone (but I'll double check for any related settings) and I don't even think I've paired it via Bluetooth since the upgrade.
it seems this system (or unit?) don't allow to enable both wifi & wifi hotspot.
in wifi, advanced settings you can try to enable auto connection to wifi.
what I did on my side is paired my phone with bluetooth, and add a script on my phone with Bixby Routines to tell the phone to enable the wifi hotspit when he's connected to the car with bluetooth. As this way when I get in, bluetooth connection is automaticly done, the phone auto turn on hotspot, and car unit auto connect to it... when I disconnect bluetooth, it stops hotspot automaticly too...

I'm not sure how that happens. Did you have all 71 files saved to your USB drive as I initially had some trouble with the upgrade as my PC didn't copy all the files over. Maybe you can just do the upgrade a second time incase it missed a file. I've also read that some of these ac8257 units have fake images, mainly that it says android 10 but it's really 9. Probably needed to use aida64 first to check the hardware but what does the aida64 app say you have for ram?
