Massive increase of ads on Youtube after switching to Xiaomi Mi 9T (K20) - Redmi K20 / Xiaomi Mi 9T Questions & Answers

Hi there
Past week I had to replace my defunct HTC, my first choice was a OnePlus, but due to budget reasons, I bought a Xiaomi Mi 9T instead. MIUI annoyances aside, I noticed that now youtube is riddled with ads, it is almost unusable. I am watching the same channels I used to before, but now it has like 4 or 5 times more ads.... did you noticed this same behaviour? is it normal?
Thanks.

just use blokada and your ads are gone (in every App)

Yeah, I went that route and so far is being a pain in the arse. In order to install the split apks with SAI, I had to disable MIUI optimizations in developer options, and after re-enabling them, now my apps permissions are all messed, I found out whatsapp would't show my contacts name anymore, to discover that every permission had been revoked. That happened to lots of other apps, some of them will ask for them the next time I launch them, but others will just not work properly, and now I have to figure out everything. And on top of that, with Vanced I have to give up my Google credentials If I want to have access to my histoy, subscriptions and so on.
I wish I spent couple hundreds more in a OnePlus or a Pixel, I would save it in pain...
Thanks.

installed vanced this week and none of ypur problems was present.
youtube is private company, so they do what they want basing on your internet profile. some videos have 20 ads and some have jist one

I'm using 9T since September...
right now I have unlocked bootloader, but Stock 11.0.4, not rooted, just Vanced and haven't got ad on youtube since I installed it. I use it everyday for a few hours at least
adaway also works, but you need root - it modifies host file.
educate yourselves and then go to discussion with others

Actually there is YT Vanced apk (root not required) abd YT Vanced module for Magisk.
Both block ads in YT, apk does not fully work with YT accounts, module does work with YT accounts
As answered earlier yes: AdAway (needs root but) modifies hosts file and hence it DOES NOT block ads in YT - it has been discussed and confirmed/explained many times in XDA AdAway thread (also in DND66 thread that also modifies DNS but through VPN and does not require root)

I don't want to root my mi a1. But I annoyed with ads in mi a1. Is any method for editing/replace host file without root access or without custom recovery. Or any other method to ad free Android without advertisement
Sent from my Mi A1 using XDA Labs
Its possible without Root. To Block Ads in your Network get yourself a Raspberry Pi and install PIHole on it. Point the DNS Setting of your Router to the ip of the Raspberry and your hole Network is AD-Free not only your smartphone.
Pi-Hole is a local DNS Server with blocklist support.

Is their impact on battery consumption because DNS app run all time whenever mobile data is on.
Initially I tried both DNS66 and Blokada. Both are powerful, but i settled for Blokada( excellent UI, literally zero load on phone and good features ). Currently after rooting I am using Adaway and MinMinGuard( xposed module ) together it's a deadly combination.

my phone blocks any data to facebook

A2017g with lineageos and magisk.
this evening i did something to block all communication with facebook: either through app or if i try to visit the website via chrome. any other app works fine.
at first I thought it could have been an ad blocker, so i disabled in xposed minminguard and in magisk unified hosts adblock. i also rebooted the phone several times, but the problem persists.
do you have any clue how could i fix this?
@Ficus*,
Have you fixed this issue in your phone? You can contact with FACEBOOK or cancel the restriction on FACEBOOK.
Adnlocker.

If you use the Unified Host Manager app, disable the Master + social option, or use the whitelist.
The Master + porn option also blocks 4chan, lol.
Yes that was the reason probably, I blocked socials in Unified Host Manager app. In the end i solved by just removing unified hosts adblock and using Minminguard on xposed instead.

working Youtube apk for Fire tablet

hey! is there a bug free version of youtube for the fire tablet?
the official youtube apk keeps freezing when I switch to my subscriptions and the one Amazon provides is worse than the mobile website!
Get the Google Play framework/services/account manager/store APK files on your device, then just download the official YouTube tablet app from there.
YouTube and most other Google apps rely on the Play Services to function properly.

No- it doesn't require anything. I use it on a Fire HD8 (and everything else since it kills all the ads). You can check out the features here:[Magisk] iYTBP - Youtube Vanced [Official]

if it no longer applies does that mean I don't have to sign in? No link anywhere in this thread anymore so I hope so.
came back to my Fire HD 8 (2017) after months to give to my father. running great with play store and bloat removed thanks to the Tool provided here
My only issue is I cant update it (which isn't surprising after running a tool like that) and for some reason cant install any apks unless form the app store (amazon store is gone) The installing apks part was new. Don't recall that being an issue. i even have "install from unknown sources" allowed in security and toggled it off and on between reboots.
My work around for Vanced and MicroG was throwing the apks in "Bloatware removal root folder"\Apps and then editing the Fire Tool.bat to include new option to install microg and vanced. I just copied the install commands for launcher/hijacker and edited to push the new APKs. very simple and worked perfectly.
Didn't try to logging in yet, was going to let me father try to use his account. If we can't it's not a deal breaker. ad free youtube on his tablet will work great. Really regretted buying this tablet at first but after XDAs help, its the best little tablet that could for under 50$.
PS. As for Vanced. Use it on my non-rooted One Plus 6 phone and love it. It's where I got the idea to install it on this tablet. Only odd thing is I installed the same apk on my phone as the tablet. The one on my phone applies the proper dark theme but the tablet doesn't. Again, not a deal breaker.

There is a Vanced mod for Magisk, but you can also go to the Vanced thread on XDA and download and install the non root Vanced. Apk that works on anything, along with the MicroG.apk in order to be able to sign into YouTube. I don't believe you need the MicroG.apk if you are rooted.

OP6T users, what adblock combination do you use? Rooted and non root

As per my title, I would like to know what other users use for blocking ads.

Will try that. I think what happened is that too many entries is on the hosts file. I am trying to use the masterlist from a thread here. I want to restore hosts file but ES file and root explorer can't delete or rename it
non-rooted using blockada with energized and steve black host scripts and adguard dns selected works just fine for me,However this non root thing is a bit new to me,I usually have always unlocked and rooted all previous devices prior to the 6T,but I don't see a reason to do so on the 6t so far.it is quick and great battery life etc..well with exception of missing TB and I more used to adaway.

Non-rooted, using Torguard paid VPN with their ad blocking DNS set within the settings. Works very well. I was a compulsive rooter and was using AdAway butt this works fine and no root needed.
Firefox with uBlock origin, simple and effective, no root necessary
Energized basic list, no issue so far
Adguard. Just got a lifetime license for eight bucks for their holiday sale. Once you've got it set up, forget it. Works better than any other method I've used, because unlike adaway and others, adguard actually blocks elements in pages so you can't even tell there's an ad that's supposed to be there. You can export/import your settings if you reset or change phones. It has per-app settings, too. There's a reason it isn't free but it's worth every penny imo.
Is that holiday sale still going on? I need to find that link and get that

I had magisk 15.4 and everything worked properly for a long time. But suddenly Google Pay refused make payments because of modified system. I've upgraded Magisk to 18.1. I've checked SafeNet test in Magisk and was passed OK. Separate app for SafeNet tests was OK too, but Google Pay still refused to work. Then I discovered the Google Play shows my device as uncertified. I found the answer which resoled both problems at one time:
Clear the data/cache of the Play Store and Google Play Services.
