Speakerphone (loudness, clarity) - Moto G Power Real Life Review

Proper etiquette aside (hint: don't use speakerphone while doing your "business" in a public bathroom), rate this thread to express how you think the Moto G Power's speakerphone performs. A higher rating indicates that you love it: it's loud and it's clear.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!

i noticed on mine that the call clarity from my speaker isn't that great.
There is quite some noise.
any other people here that have that too? or is mine simply a bit busted?

Mine is fine (just got the phone this afternoon). When you say there is some noise, in what way?

i think i figured it out,
i had in-call volume maxed out, and then the speaker gives some background hissing ... don't know how to explain the sound itself...
i found out it was a software thing because in Skype for business the sound was very clear as expected

Well, it just happened to me 10 mins ago on a call I put on loudspeaker. SO, I'll try that tip. Wonder if the Dolby audio is also a potential

I've been testing a bit more with this,
i made a phonecall to a friend of mine, and indeed some crackling background noise witch seems to be generated when he speeks.
i made another call to him with max audio output from Skype for business, and the sound is really clear.
so i guess therefor that it has something to do with the audio settings of the phone app.
i don't have a clue on how to fix it, but just to clarify, i don't mean the loudspeaker , just the internal normal speaker.
I haven't tested it on loudspeaker

Ahh, I'm getting it when on loudspeaker, not when in call speaker. Interesting. Yes I do think it's the phone app that's the issue. Seeing as it's stock I wonder if it's a current bug.

due to some issues with installing viper4android i had to unpatch my bootimage to get my phone back working, and guess what, it works fine on the non rooted version....
so it apears it has something to do with
a: the patch
or
b: an interfering rooted app

I'm not rooted on mine so now I'm not sure what it could be heh.

I'm particularly satisfied with this Motorola Moto G8 Power but indeed, during calls, the sound from the internal speaker is quite poor quality. When my interlocutor speaks, his voice is not very clear, it sizzles at times...
Let's hope that an update will arrive soon!

after some time on the non-rooted version, i sadly have to conclude my problem is still there.
my previous assumption that the problem was because of rooting is off the table

These stereo speakers are awesome, so loud sound. I think, main reason you must buy this phone, is speakers

Speakers on this phone are amazing
Disable built in Moto Dolby., I use an APK called package disabler.
Install Viper4droid Legacy with updated V4A APK.
Install Dolby Atmos for Android Q (Via Magisk Modules)
Disable sellinux ..I use an APK called Adiutor Mod APK
Bam..adjust the sound to your liking

Absolutely ridiculous, best speaker i ever had in a smartphone

@jhjhjhjhjhjh was right about the speakers of Moto G8
I followed his tutorial and got the best sound out of my phone
I have attached screenshots and .apk for anyone who wants to give it a shot
I disabled Moto Audio with Package Disabler
I also installed ViPER4Android FX with apk then updated it from Magisk Manager, when you notice V4A restarts your phone, you need to install Audio Modification library, Busy box for Android NDK from the downloads by searching for them and that will solve the problem
Then you need to download Audio Configuration Database Module into your downloads folder and install it as a module then after you can install the Dolby Atmos module too
Then finally, using Kernel Adiutor-Mod app, you go to MISC controls and change Current SELinux status to Permissive and check apply on boot
Enjoy

Hi sir, are you in stock firmware? If yes, do you have a problem with top speaker when example: use voice chat in a game, or Meet? Me and a lot more of people its reporting the same audio issue on Lenovo forum: the phone sounds like under water and only from bottom speaker and just will be fixed rebooting. The last answer from lenovo team was could be a hardware issue, but i think its software issue, cause only happens when using the microphone in some apps.

Is the speakerphone call problems still an issue with the Moto G Power? From what I have been reading, it is likely a software problem (other than the fact that that one of the speakers is right next to the mic), and maybe has been updated away.

[Q] Speaker Phone

Hello, With my Aug09 kernel I still do not have the speakerphone working properly on my blackstone. The speaker just comes out louder out of the front speaker, instead of activating the rear speaker. Is there some configuration that I can set that will identify the rear speaker for speakerphone?

What build? What exact kernel/rootfs are you on? Has the speakerphone ever worked?
Speakerphone works fine on my RHOD, but obviously the hardware is different.
FRX07.1 i just want to confirm speakerphone doesnt work on my blackstone either. it just puts the volume a step higher. on winmo the speakerphone makes your ear bleed if you hold it close and there is an automatic background noise removal
I'd still like to know if the speakerphone ever worked guys... or if it has always just been low/poor/non-existent?
I has not worked in the recent buils (last 12 months or so)
But If I remember correctly in older builds it used to work, but I may be wrong.

If you can pinpoint a point in time (or a combination of files) that speakerphone does work on, that would be interesting.
Have you tried the new acoustic code too..? I wonder if that helps. It's still pretty experimental, so its not without problems...
My speakerphone worked fine when i was running FRX7.1 apart from the crackle i was pumping music and everything....

Gone with the new acoustic. Speakerphone is much louder, and the crackle is no more.
There's a few other issues with it unfortunately, so it's not ready for a general release yet. I did a test release if you're interested. Based on FRX07.1.

Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1 (2016) Sound Playback Issue

I have had the tablet for just over a week and although it has some issues it is running ok. The latest issue I have noticed (among others ) is that sometimes when playing music (through any music/video player) I cannot hear anything, it just goes silent (after pressing pause/play)-the music is definitely playing as the progress bar in the music player shows so. Then when tapping the pause/play button all I hear is a ear aching crackle. Does anyone else have this issue? It doesn't happen all the time but occurs on a daily basis. A reboot fixes it (but then it eventually returns again)...
I had the same problem but i got it fixed. Turn off adapt sound. Sound->Soundquality and effects->Adapt Sound->turn off
Is it only when using earphones or also using the internal speakers?
Try pairing it to a Bluetooth speaker or earphone just to make sure that it is a software problem or not.

I haven't noticed it when using the speakers (I rarely use these when listening to music), only with earphones. I don't have any bluetooth speakers. The fact that it works sometimes means it has to be software right? I have noticed several bugs (incl. random reboots-sd card related?), the software is the buggiest I have used in a while, I expected better from Samsung.

I'll see how it goes. I haven't used Xposed (and any modules) for a while now, I don't root my devices anymore-those days are long gone lol.
Disabling the UHQ Upscaler (and all other music enhancements) did nothing unfortunately, I have had enough of this tablet, I will contact the retailer and see what they say.

I ended up returning the tablet, too many issues, incl. random reboots etc... But I got the 7" version instead as it better suits my needs plus costs half the price. :victory:
No bugs or major issues on this one.

Use both speakers for speakerphone?

Recently got a US F3521 and flashed over to the Euro firmware. I've really been liking the phone but noticed today that the in-call speakerphone only uses the bottom speaker on the phone. Does anyone know how to get both speakers working or increase the volume?
Also, the audio sounds great coming from this phone in general. I just wish it could be louder...
I believed the sound from either the bottom speaker or from both speakers is decided by the applications.
In youtube & music, I have both speakers output the sound, but the top one is giving smaller volume, however, Skype can only use bottom speaker.
I also flashed a US version with Euro firmware and updated with the latest Nougot Feb update.
Hmm, on both my Z3 Compact and Z5 Compact that was the stock behavior, but by modifying mixer_paths.xml you could force louder volume overall and dual speaker use always. I never made those modifications myself, so I'm not sure, but I bet the same could be applied to the X Compact for louder audio out of both speakers.
i would give it a try, where is mixer_paths.xml hidden ?
For louder audio you can download speaker boost app from play store. Works quite well!!

You can find it in root/system/etc, and if you end up modifying the file or replacing it, you must then set permissions back to rw-r--r--
Arjun in this forum had offered to modify the file (as I'm not sure what changes to make in it), but I haven't rooted and setup my new X Compact yet to pull the file and upload it:

Sound Improvement with Nougat?

When I had an axon 7 before I had issues with crackling/static noises when playing music through the speakers and bluetooth. I'm not sure if it was a hardware or software issue but I got 2 replacement devices and they both had the same issue. In the end I got a refund.
Apart from these sound issues the phone was perfect and I'm thinking about trying it again, since I haven't seen another phone I would buy this year (except xz premium).
I had the axon back when it was on stock marshmallow, so I want to know if anyone has had the same problem or seen an improvement in sound with stock nougat, nougat roms or through using any mods?
viper4arise (numbers, non-aroma) works for me. enable for phone speaker and bluetooth and reduce output gain to -10.5 to see if there's an improvement. I think it requires root and selinux set to permissive for it to work.

[GUIDE] Fix front speaker distortion in Pixel 2 XL (no root)

Hello my friends!!
I actually found a way to fix front speaker distortion without root.
1) Disable Google's MusixFx App (com.android.musicfx)
2) Install an equalizer app (In my case i used Equalizer FX. Pro Free version)
3) Open the app (if you haven't disabled yet Google's MusicFx app, it will told you to do so)
4) Depending on how is affected your speaker because the bad mounting (Google's fault) you will have to play lowering the frequencies. In my case I only needed to lower 910Hz to -7db
5) No more distortion!!!....
The only down side it's that you will get a less louder speaker, but 100% enjoyable sound!
I had to return 4 devices until I decided to find a way to "fix it" without rooting... I think Google was already trying to fix it because MusicFX app was updated in latest February update. Let's see if they officially release a fix. I think I will ask for RMA again anyway...
I will try this! My RMA has the same distortion, especially during a video call. I was debating doing another RMA, but the screen seems good so I am not so pressed to do so. Thanks for the info!

Hello!!... It works... But sometimes the equalizer stops working and I have to uninstall and install again... Maybe someone could find a better Equalizer app.
I did also wrote Google about this... They told me to wait and to be patient ... Because they are working "day by day" to solve this issue... That I will receive a notification when the fix is ready... Let's see... If not I will have to do RMA again...

Keep me posted please! I'm in the same boat, I was debating contacting them, but now I won't as I know I'll get the same canned message. The USB C adapter quality sucks too, I use an AuX cable in my VW and man distortion, no sound, feedback at times unsure if you guys have any issues there too?

I have used the USB C adapter with headphones without problem (for now at least)...
If I receive any message from Google I'll update this post.
This doesn't fix the distortion for calls on speakerphone. Any idea how to achieve that without root?
The only thing I'm doing to keep the distortion at bay is by pushing the speaker grills slightly every now and then with my nails. That seems to be working. Nonetheless, these speaker combination is still better than bottom speakers. I'm enjoying way more content than I used to with my OnePlus 3T. Myy wife's OnePlus 5T speakers are louder, but still this one experiences better for me. I hope Google made them right !! But what can we do, they took a greedy mofo for CEO.

Thanks for the solution. It works for pixel 3 as well!
the best post I've seen, I had not noticed until I made the change although I notice it even if I disable the google one thanksss (You can also increase the volume from the same application and the result is maintained)
The difference in audio quality is really noticeable.. But doesn't seem to work on apps like youtube (Vanced)... Does this only work for dedicated music apps? Works flawlessly on Spotify but would love it to work at least for YouTube...

Go to settings, search for MusicFX. The app will come up. Click on it and select disable.
My sound quality dropped massively from one day to the next. Does anyone know if this has been an issue on the 3XL lately?
I wanted to try this did but I couldn't find the MusicFX app.
