OnePlus 7T Pro (T-Mobile 5G McLaren) custom kernels - OnePlus 7T Pro 5G McLaren Questions & Answers

Hi. Not sure if this has been mentioned anywhere, I didn't see anything, but has anybody tried to run a custom kernels on the T-Mobile 5G McLaren variant yet? I see that elemental and maybe some others work on the 7T pro, so theoretically should be good on the 5G model. I want to try, as I'm curious if using a different kernel might help with the terrible battery life, but wanted to get some input. Anybody???

i think theres none for the 5G mclaren, i have used some custom ones from 7t pro but as you cant mount system rw in 5G model, the kernel settings dont stick on the stock kernel and i have used custom settings from the kernel dev and i saw worst battery.
if you want battery life there is a section here that people share there own ways, and me as well, mayor battery problem is 5G, go to my profile and look my posts, i have excellent battery life but you need to disable some settings that they advertised the phone from, like 5G

blu_spark works well, the oos version. It's the only one I have tried but seems great. You can even add this .json url to Franko Kernel Manager to install it and get updates through the app

Awesome. Thanks. I figured something would work, since others do on OP7T Pro models. Have you noticed any improvements in battery life though?

Feels better but I have no proof I haven't done any testing.

Root and GearVR

In all my searching I have never found anything positive about using the Gear VR with Root.
Some people have gotten lucky and have it work. Mostly using the stock modified Kernel but I can't be sure that this will work with my Model. G928F as it states that it is designed for other models.
Is anyone happily using their european Gear VR with root? If so what is your setup?
Thank you.

Hi,
I'm from the Netherlands, i also have the G928F.
With the modified kernel it works great!
So yes. i'm verry happy with the Gear VR.
Using Audax Rom with the Stock modified kernel.
t-mobile stock modified works fine.
Thank you everyone. I am sure you can understand my hesitation. with it being labelled T-Mobile. If anyone else has had good experiences with this or other kernels/ROMs please let us know. The more feedback the better.

hi. same for me here. i had same issues.
i found that for me Stock modiefied Kernel and Orgia rom works best. i have G928F. and everything works just fine, no worries about the kernel. it will work.
i also heard and read that skyhigh kernel is reported working. but it was not for me.
i know that you should stay as much stock as possible with rom an kernel from what i read.

New owner contemplating lineage flash

Hello,
I am new to android and recently ordered a Leeco pro3 for $120 (couldn't pass it up). I have read that it does not get ota updates in the US, so I have a few questions. Is there any detriment to using an outdated android version? Can I still run apps like facebook, twitter, and Snapchat? If i flash to lineage, will I still have all of the features (camera, Snapchat and facebook apps, etc)? I know the IR blaster won't work, but this isn't an issue. I just have read that certain apps won't work and want to avoid having a phone with no camera or no social media apps such as Snapchat. Thank you all ahead of time.

If all you need is just core functionality then I would there is nothing wrong with running the stock rom. Everything will work right out of the box and all of those apps you mentioned should run just fine. Not to mention you should get really good battery life. With that said if you like some of the features that come with Nougat based roms such as better Doze and Camera API 2 support so you can install apps like google camera and give you camera a nice performance boost then go for it. I have installed all of the aftermarket roms available in this thread and IMHO Paranoid turned out to be the best. I havent had a single issue with it and it has the latest drivers taken from Oneplus 3's source code.

Thank you for the quick response. Given the fact that you have gone through using custom roms, have you been able to use snapchat on Paranoid? I have read that custom roms cause the app not to work. Also, for someone who has never used an android device, how hard is it to flash a custom rom? I am very interested in having a better camera, as I will be coming from a Lumia 950 XL (it has been deteriorating and Microsoft seems to have given up on W10M.). I know that this isn't on that level, but anything I can do to get the gap smaller is good. I am also interested in other features, but have to ask - is your battery life significantly worse running a custom rom? That would be a turn off. Thank you again.

Nope my battery life is near identical to stock and everything works on Paranoid. My favorite thing about it too is that all viarations of Google camera also work which will give you great pictures and videos if you play around with them far better than stock imho. But play with it first you will find that you can do far more on Android than you can windows mobile. The ecosystem just doesn't compare. If you want to to install a rom then follow the guides but make sure you do your homework before just jumping in. It's not difficult but a screw up could brick your phone. But there are also many guides for unbricking as well
Lineage has new Android versions first, but doesn’t have good battery life on this device, use a different ROM. If you want Snapchat, you can use a ROM that passes Safetynet or maybe Magisk’s hide feature. Oreo ROMs don’t pass safetynet, but some other Nougat ROMs do.

This is great news that the camera actually improves. Do you have snapchat issues with this rom? I just want to ensure I am able to enjoy everything android has to offer (well, as much as possible on a year old phone for now), as I have missed quite a bit of apps on W10M.

Paranoid does, so does AICP I think, both for nougut, not Oreo ones yet as SELinux is not working on Oreo. There are others that probably do also, but I haven't tried them yet.

This is tremendous. I am already turning into an android fanboy and I haven't even got the phone. It is quite impressive that the opensource community can get the latest editions stable on these devices. I just saw no need to go buy a galaxy or near $1K smartphone when the SD820 is still a powerhouse in my eyes. Do I have to root to install Paranoid, or just unlock bootloader and flash? (I may be missing a step but am going solely off of how I understood the guides)

SD821, not 820, the model with the 820, the so called elite, has nearly no development.
You have to flash a file to unlock the American model’s bootloader. (The SD821 powered x727 I think it’s called...) the Chinese model x720 has an unlocked bootloader, but is missing US carrier frequencies so it’s worse for Americans.

It looks like there are the same roms though. I even found paranoid. Is the 820 to 821 really that big of a difference? This thing was so cheap.

It stinks because I had an additional coupon bringing this to $120s. A dual sim (necessary for work) phone with a sd820 for that price seemed too good to be true and now it seems it is. However, if I can still get the play store ill be fine on any rom (would prefer a custom).

So ya you got the Elite. I do recall there being a couple of ROMs for that phone just poke around this forum and I believe you will find them.
you can find all the detailed specs here:
https://www.gsmarena.com/leeco_le_pro3_elite-8614.php
The only thing I would really be concerned about is band support and if you will get LTE or not. It looks like its a mixed bag here:

I checked the band support and that's good. Will this come with the play store though? And if not, is there a way to install it on the stock rom? I just want to make sure I have the basic apps (although I'd prefer a custom rom)

Please include "T-Mobile version compatible"

When developers on XDA create mods, ROMs, etc for the 6t, I'd like to request that they post whether or not it is T-Mobile compatible o, or if they don't know, just post that. And, if someone does find out after the original post whether it's compatible or not, that they add that to the original post.
I know these developers do a lot but this would be helpful to a lot of us who got the T-Mobile version. Thanks.
The answer is yes. It's T-Mobile compatible.
There's no real difference between the devices. If it works on one, it's going to work on the other.
sorry for posting this here, but for some reason, I cant add a new question/topic..
Can you get the home screen to rotate when using the stock launcher on the Tmobile version?
I assume I could with Nova launcher, but I am trying to get used to the built in one..
thanks so much!

That's not a hundred percent accurate. For example the pixel camera that was ported over had to be changed to accommodate the T-Mobile version. There are some differences. As someone who's not developer I don't know exactly what those are but I do know that there are some differences and there have to be some modifications on some things.

One thing had to be changed. It's because he has a compatibility list built into it based on the device name in the build.prop. He could have checked against a different build string and there would have been no issues. He only does this to cut down on complaints of devices he's not supporting. It was a self imposed limit that was quickly remedied on a device that was a few days old. This is limited to this app only and is not the norm at all. The only other time you'll see something like this is a mod to make the international launcher use Google feed, which the TMobile version already has. Or a mod to bring some feature from the international version to the TMobile version. In that case there's no need to mention it, it's obvious. No need to add a feature/app/mod you already have. And the person who made that will definitely mention that they're bringing the feature to the T-Mobile version.
Edit: also these mods will be few and far between since the way to install those mods will require an unlocked bootloader/root, and at that point, someone will most likely be running the international rom just to stay more current/more features.
Mods will work the same. ROMs will work the same. Kernels will work the same. Magisk mods will work the same. Apps will work the same. The devices are the same.
Your request would make sense if we shared a forum with the OP6. The devices share the same device tree, they are extremely similar, but there are minor differences between the devices that might make a handful of things work on one but not the other.

Opinions On 6&6T Upgrade.

I'm basically asking for price to performance, From what I read around the forums "Both" Devices are amazing. How is touch sensitivity between the both? I know some owners have multiple devices in the house, So could you lady's an Gents Help me out with a selection? I know the "T" model don't have the audio Jack but that don't matter since I only use Bluetooth. What would be best for ordering 3rd Party or from OP main site? Any Opinions are welcomed from both devices good or bad. :good:

Well see this question needs you to have a decision on which you want to buy...
If the 6T yes right from OnePlus website
If the 6 then you have no choice but a third party seller like Amazon etc... Because OnePlus is not selling the 6 on their website anymore since they sold out to cycle in the next gen device's for this year.... 6T will be in this situation as well in a few short months when the op7 drops...

Hi, I'm not seeing a McLaren edition in my location I'm guessing it was a limited time offer, I'm in the US I have nothing in stock for it. From what I looked at about the McLaren it is a nice Device. I was wondering if Op site offered better support for shipping, Had a package come in once that looked like it did 5rounds in the octagon. BTW I'm not knocking amazon just delivery. :silly:

Advice re: Exynos on T-Mobile

I am at the point of having my 935T fixed for a bad charging port and new battery, but I got to thinking of replacing it with a flat or edge Exynos. Reason is that I need to be rooted and the SD root method (eng kernel) is horrific and I am craving having a phone that actually works with some speed. I am sick of the lag.
I am wondering how difficult it would be to use an F version and get VoLTE and wifi calling on it? How about video calling from the dialer?
Finally, can a working CA be enabled on this?
If any of those are not possible, would someone mind saying how they find their day-to-day phone usage to be without the feature in question?
If possible, any good links would be appreciated.
Thanks.
If you flash a Pie port on an international s7 edge all those features work by default. I have an SM-G935F and can confirm on Pie no additional steps are needed. If you stay on Oreo there is an additional zip file you need to flash from heretekhd.com. I used the detonator for s9 oreo port of s8 and it worked fine. Just make sure to take a full nandroid backup before you do anything as things can always go wrong.
Thank you for the information.
What carrier are you on? Have you noticed anything with data rate and lack of CA?

I'm looking at AOSP and apparently VoLTE is not possible on those builds. Do you have one you can recommend?

Apologies I didnt know you meant AOSP. Unfortunately that does not support the features you are looking for. I thought it you were talking about Samsung 9.0 OneUI.

Not tied to any specific route, AOSP was just one of the ones I looked at. The only constant is really the phone - s7 flat or edge.
I am getting my s7 repaired and staying with the horribly performing rooted device. In the interim I am using a stock s7 and am really enjoying the phone actually working. I think I am going to get an international s7 anyway just to play with it and see how this all performs.
So what are some options to get VoLTE and wifi calling onto an Exynos s7?
Thanks.

Answered in my first reply. Flash Pie and that's it, or stay on Oreo and Flash TekHDs Detonator for s8 (s9 port for s8).
