Unable to root Redmi 7A (MIUI Global 11.0.5 & Android version 9 PKQ1.190319.001 - Redmi 7A Questions & Answers

I recently bought Redmi 7A phone with the sole intention of rooting the device. But it looks like there's no way to root it. :crying::crying: I was able to unlock the bootloader, install TWRP but after that I'm stuck. Tried Magisk & SU.. both of them failed. Not sure how to proceed from here. Desperately need your help...plz

I was able to root after booting from a patched boot.img (fastboot boot patched_boot.img), installed Magisk and let it patch the flashed boot.img
You'll need a patched boot.img, don't know where I found mine (11.0.13 EU)

Same. Unlocked the bootloader, flashed vbmeta and recovery, everything works as expected. When I flash the patched_boot.img for 11.0.5 global the device keeps booting to recovery. Flashing magisk+-permissiver has no effect.
Sorry, figured it out.
1. flash boot.img
2. reboot into recovery
3. format data
4. install magisk+permissiver
5. reboot
Thanks everyone here for all the work.

I have done it. All i had to do is patch the boot image using this tool: https://github.com/YaAlex3/patcher-oss
I used miui 11.0.5 global and it just worked. The boot image is attached. The steps are: wipe everything exept sd card, then format all data, reboot back to recovery (can be 32/64 bit), flash miui_PINEGlobal_V11.0.5.0.QCMMIXM_a3def89fd4_10.0.zip (i hope it is the same image, if not, contact me, and i will send it to you), then flash boot image attached here and lastly flash Magisk-v19.3.zip.
I dont recommed you to upgrade to higher versions of magisk, because it could break your system.
So this is how i got it working, good luck!

Here is the boot image!

Hi, I tried your method and I think the magisk installation work but i can't verify because every time I reboot my device I am automatically redirected into recovery. How can I reboot into system now?
Thanks

Stuck in Boot Animation

Hi!
I have a A2107G and unlocked it, coming from B04.
Everything worked so far, but I have messed around with bootstack/modem and now I am struggling.
I flashed a new ROM with TWRP (different versions) and the ROM (doesn't matter which one) is stuck in booting animation.
What can I do to bring it back to life?
Also another question: After switching on, directly after the ZTE logo coming up, a black sceen with some infos coming up and stay there for 5 secs.
Is there a way to get rid of this

Yes, I have TWRP.
So i should flash a stock image and start over from scratch (with rooting, ...)
Is the posted screen normal?

Yes it is normal. It means you've unlocked bootloader.

Heh. I don't know if there are flashable stock zips for the A2017G, the way I know of is flashing the stock recovery and using an official zip. But you shouldn't go back to stock if you want to use custom ROMs. Try this:
-Get an SD card, put
~ a custom ROM (RR, LOS,NucleaROM (i prefer NucleaROM, just sayin)),
~a Magisk 13.3 zip or SuperSU 2.82 zip,
~an OpenGApps zip (I use pico), arm64,
~a TWRP 3.1.1-0.img and
~A2017X Universal Bootloader and A2017G modem.
-Wipe system, data, cache and dalvik
-Install the Universal Bootloader, then the Modem, then the ROM and last the GApps and magisk/SuperSU
-If you had something important on the internal storage put it on the SD with the File manager under Advanced
-Go to Wipe -> Format data -> type Yes. This will get rid of the possible encryption from the stock ROM, but it will wipe your internal storage too.
-Reboot to system
You can use the 5 seconds screen to get to TWRP with the Volume buttons. Pretty handy I guess. There's a zip out there that gets rid of that screen, but you risk black-screening your phone with what seems to be no immediate fix (you'd be looking at an RMA)
So, after you use the phone and open TWRP again, you'll have an old version of it (3.0.1N-0 or sth). So go to Install, choose Install image, and select the TWRP 3.1.1-0.img on your SDcard. Then Reboot -> reboot to recovery and you can do whatever you want.

Hi!
Thanks for your help and the time you spent on my problem.
I have tried all that stuff already, but maybe not in exact that order. Will try it this evening.
In case i will be able to bring it back to life, I have 2 questions, pls:
1: You mentioned the 5sec-screen and a zip to get rid of it.
Where could I find it (not seen yet) and how do i get into fastboot, when I skip this screen?
2: When I setted up my Axon with a Custom Rom and SU and everything was working as it should do, I was not able to write to /system (or deleting something in system/apps)
How do I get rid of this restriction? I think I have found an instruction once, but I failed and afterwards my device was stuck in animation.
orry for bothering, but the Axon really drive me nuts. Never had such a hassle with my Nexus

Can you just leave the 5 sec screen alone? You can kill your phone, and there doesn't seem to be anything you can do really.
If you're insistent, you can find it under Themes Apps and Mods, called "We remove the inscription that the bootloader is unlocked" made by NFound1.
And about the restriction to modify the system, connect your phone to a PC with ADB, fire up ADB and configure it (USB debugging, ADB over network if you have the option, permit the connection) and issue 'adb reboot disemmcwp' (disable emmc write protection, that is. Write it just like that or your phone will reboot and you will still have the protection active).
The phone has its difficulties and all but it's easy to work with once you get the hang of it. And, you know, your big cores don't just die all of a sudden, which is a good thing!

to go back to stock, download the full zip of any version you want, and download stock recvovery from b08, you have flashed it.
from twrp, format data, and try to boot, if you cannot, reflash b09 recovery from twrp, select image and the recovery you download, then go to stock recovery and update from sdcard. it allways work for me, if you stuck in boot animation again, reboot recovery and wipe data.
after you succesfully boot, reboot edl, and reflash twrp, the version you were using before witn axon7tool, thats all

However, I'm not able to flash LOS by using the B05 bootstack.

What B05 bootstack? You have to use the universal bootstack and the A2017G modem file...
Both are on the LOS thread. It seems weird that carbonROM would even boot without the universal bootstack though

Help needed, ze552kl bootloop after flashing without uninstall magisk

Last working state :
1. Android O version WW-15.0410.1803.55
2. Bootloader unofficial unlocked
3. Rooted with magisk
Reason for flashing :
Update to latest Oreo then re-root but flashing failed due to magisk not being uninstalled first
Current state :
1. Able to enter fastboot
2. Twrp is intact
3. Magisk uninstalled using twrp
Actions already taken :
1. Uninstall magisk via TWRP
2. Re-flash WW-15.0410.1803.55 via TWRP
3. Wipe dalvik/cache
4. Factory reset via twrp swipe
Still stuck in bootloop
I'm thinking of flashing Oreo stock recovery prior to reflash Oreo firmware via Asus flash tool. Found Oreo stock recovery image from 15.04.10.1711.6. Is this usable? (Edit : found suitable version and bunch of other versions, big thanks to Iceboy91 on following thread : https://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone-3/help/request-stock-recovery-boot-img-stock-t3763381 )
But before I do anything even more stupid, I need your advise on correct next moves, guys.

Will Asus FT run properly on TWRP i/o stock recovery? Last time I did it booted to TWRP and I can't proceed. Kindly confirm if it's possible and I'll give it another try. I am left with another option which is flashing corresponding stock recovery and boot image.
To save your time from trial and error recovering from similar problem, here's what I do.
Issues :
1. Flashing raw on stock with TWRP stuck on eternal 'unzip image'
2. Flashing raw on stock ROM with stock recovery and wipe data OFF was successfull but could not enter system (stuck on Asus logo with circling progress).
Also unable to enter stock recovery at this point.
Steps taken to recover from bootloop :
1. Flash corresponding recovery and boot image to replace TWRP (BE CAREFUL WITH SOFTWARE VERSION)
2. Firstly, flash basic Oreo RAW firmware which can only boot to fastboot found on this post : https://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone-3/how-to/updated-unlock-relock-bootloader-t3749456
3. Flash full RAW Oreo firmware found on the very same post mentioned on #2, but with WIPE DATA SELECTED.
Note : Step 2 might be skippable, up to you to try
Hey ,
If you wanna upgrade to latest Oreo update, just follow these steps (most of the users did not report any kind of bootloop)
1) Flash stock recovery
2) Sideload the latest firmware .zip
3) Reboot and flash TWRP & Magisk
Link for stock recovery/boot images by @shakalaca :
https://mega.nz/#F!lw02CLpA!hpetR2-Sec1F__gHPNRE9Q!E09B3BbA
If anything happens, RAW firmware is there for you
Note: Do not remove/uninstall Magisk via TWRP. Flashing latest update will remove Magisk automatically.
Thanks for the tip, my problem has been solved, but better solution is certainly welcomed. Will do when caught in the same situation.
Here is what I do:
Skip automatic update and do it manually through TWRP.
First flash update then reinstall latest magisk in order within TWRP.
Reboot.

AFT just needs working fastboot.
Flashing raw via aft will restore all stuff to stock state.
Twrp will be replaced by stock recovery too.
I wouldn't recommend flashing stock zip via twrp.
Another way to get back to. Stock is to replace twrp by stock recovery (after wiping data, cache, system). Then flash boot.img and finally use update via SD card option from the newly installed stock recovery.
Also you can take twrp backup of stock rom (system, data, boot) and restore whenever you want to go to stock (after wiping system, data and cache).
All methods tried and tested.

Help! OP 6t McLaren 9.0.12 won`t boot into system after Magisk update /uninstall

Hi everybody,
I have a OP 6T McLaren, Oxygen 9.0.12 and I tried to uninstall Magisk 18.1 and update to Magisk 18.2 canary and something went wrong. After flashing I got the following error:
!Unable to unpack boot image
---
Updater process ended with ERROR: 1
Error installing zip file `/sdcard/Download/magisk-uninstaller.zip
The same error when I try to flash any Magisk version.
Phone doesn`t boot into system now. I can fastboot into TWRP and access files and folders.
Thank you very much in advance for your help.
Flash the magisk uninstaller then reboot. Then flash magisk.
I can't flash magisk uninstaller or magisk. It gives me the above error.
Even if I flash twrp installer in temp twrp it installs without error but after reboot it boots only in bootloader.
What can I do now to get the system working again?
-flash stock boot.img (where do I get file for McLaren 9.0.12?
-use MSMdownloadtool from here?
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-6t/how-to/tool-6t-msmdownloadtool-v4-0-oos-9-0-5-t3867448
flash this ota via temp twrp?

Try
Reflash OOS 9.0.12
Flash twrp
Reboot recovery
Flash magisk
Reboot system
Backup your data
Sent from my OnePlus6T using XDA Labs
Mclaren uses the same stock restore image.
I've been there format data .my friend let's his SD card encrypt or get errors on top of letting twrp (wrong version won't decrypt data either) if you do that reboot in system make sure adb is on and oem and auto updates are off
use different twrp the test build works better I had problems with orginal TWRP too
Solved!
All I had to do was flashing stock boot.img to boot_A and boot_B. Now It's working again...
Thank you very much for your help.

Ah.. Stuck in exactly same situation. Did you unzip the stock rom and flash boot.img through fastboot? Or did you take any different steps?
Niks.
Yes, unzip and flash both files via fastboot.
Just a note.
When installing Magisk and TWRP; I always install Magisk in one slot and reboot. I then use a partition backup tool to grab the stock boot image.
I then flash the stock boot image so the phone is completely stock again.
At this point I go through the TWRP and Magisk install the normal way.
I do this so I can always flash back to stock.
I also don't care about retaining TWRP or root.
I just start all over. It takes a few minutes but I don't usually have issues.
I also local install the same ROM to both slots before I install anything.
This way the opposite slot will always boot with the same version of the ROM.

Always boot in recovery mode after an update

Hi,
I was updating my OP6T to the new version (Magisk + Xxx NoLimits), but after the reboot post-update the device started to reboot to recovery after it booted. So I've tried to delete Magisk but the problem was still present, so I've decided to download the latest Oxygen ROM from the OnePlus and flash it from TWRP, but after flashing, the device started to always boot to recovery (before the OnePlus boot animation).
At least i tried to restore a nandroid backup of 1 month ago (System, Boot and Data), but still the device after the restore still boot to recovery before the boot animation.
I've only tried the system reboot (I've not tried to force boot another slot).
Do you have a solution to try before formatting the internal storage?
Thanks
Edit: After unistalling magisk and reflashing it again, now the device boots again, but immediately after (when the lock screen appear) the device reboot automatically to recovery again
Try this:
- in twrp , dirty flash the rom you are using (Oxygen os)
- factory reset
- flash twrp (the latest the better)
- flash Magisk 19.1
Reboot to system.
If this not working, Format data will work.

Ok, I've done this and actually is even worse, the device started to boot in recovery again and TWRP doesn't recognize that the internal storage is crypted, so i can't even access the internal storage (it shows only strange folders), so, now I can't flash the nandroid backup anymore.
I also mean FULL rom .zip.
Format data in twrp or in Fastboot. Or use MSM tool .

all of them will wipe ALL in youre phone, but it will work.

So I've to Full wipe and then adb sideload the ROM? Because at the current state I can't even boot the device, it always starts in TWRP
Edit: I've also tried the blue_spark's version but nothing changed, TWRP can't recognize the encrypted storage
you can try this first.

Hi,
I was updating my OP6T to the new version (Magisk + Xxx NoLimits), but after the reboot post-update the device started to reboot to recovery after it booted.

When you're saying you're flashing the full ROM after wiping, are you meaning the xxx no limit? If so this isn't an os rom it's just a magisk module rom that's an add on to oxygen os. You need to wipe and flash the latest oxygen os rom, stable or beta which ever you're using, then flash TWRP, flash your os again on the other slot, flash TWRP, flash magisk, if your system boots fine then flash the xxx no limits rom in twrp.

You're best bet is to use the MSM tool

Ok, I've decided to use MSM to recover the device, I've lost the internal storage, but at least the device is working again.
Thank you to everyone who helped me in this thread

Maybe it was a Magisk module that caused it. I removed pixel module from Magisk and it done the same to me.

After update to V11.0.4.0.QFJEUXM TWRP no longer available

Hi Guys,
yesterday the new update came out, great.
I of course immediately pulled the zip (source) and installed it with TWRP (source).
So far no problems.
After a while I realized that I no longer had root because the apps stopped working.
When I wanted to boot into the TWRP to reinstall Magisk, I unfortunately found that it was no longer available, but only stock recovery.
Well, I thought to myself and tried to reinstall TWRP (method-twrp-3.3.1-2-davinci-fix), which was fatal, because my cell phone only booted into the Fastboot.
Then I got my cell phone, set up again with the Fastboot method.
Now I'm back to 11.0.4.0 but unfortunately without TWRP and root.
Can someone please describe how I can get TWRP and root again on Android 10?
I am thankful for every help !!!
Same thing happening to me, no matter what I do, stock recovery keeps overwriting TWRP
Oh dear, that doesn't sound good.
I hope there will be a solution to the problem soon.
I don't want to do without TWRP and root.
I wanted to try it according to these instructions "https://miui.blog/redmi-k20/twrp-mi-9t-redmi-k20-vbmeta-mauronofrio/". But don't trust me, I'm afraid that it won't work and I can start all over again.
Flash official TWRP this morning with fastboot commands without problem.
1. reboot in fastboot mode
2. Flash recovery with this command "fastboot flash recovery yourrecovery.img"
3. Reboot in recovery with this command "fastboot boot yourrecovery.img"
Any problems here.
The fact that twrp is lost when flashing official rom (even thought twrp itself) is normal. You just have to reboot into bootloader and flash twrp again and it will be back.
Your problem here is that you are using an old and unofficial twrp build, that has problems on newer roms. Flash official twrp and you'll be fine

Oh sorry it works? I read somewhere that the original causes also bootloops :good:
Found something on a Russian website.
Обновление TWRP Recovery от LR.Team для устройств на Android 10
Does anyone dare to test this?
Here is the link to the TWRP for our Mi9t
> TWRP-3.3.1-1109-DX (полный комплект для установки) <
Check it out...
I finally got it
I did the following.
"V11.0.4.0.QFJEUXM" flashed in the TWRP and booted into the system, TWRP will be overwritten.
Now flashed TWRP "twrp-3.3.1-0-davinci.img" in Fastboot and booted into Recovery (TWRP).
To be on the safe side, I had the cell phone booted again into the TWRP in the TWRP.
Then I flashed Magisk "Magisk-v20.3.zip".
Booted cell phone into the system and everything works.

Where did you get the twrp file from?
You can use OrangeFox Recovery if you want a TWRP that can survive after flashing MIUI ROMs or updates :

Ok, I am on global 11.0.4.0 (QFJMIXM) and I used this latest twrp-3.3.1-0-davinci.img and I can confirm its working without bootloop.

To install TWRP, is it neccesary to wipe Data (or something else)?
And if Data must be wiped, does it mean that Data will no more be encrypted as originally by MIUI?
I have 11.0.4.0, rooted by Magisk (Magisk installed simply by patching and flashing boot.img, did not need TWRP for, did not wipe Data, etc) and I possibly want to have TWRP but don't want to loose encryption of Data, Widewine L1 and so

You don't need to wipe anything to install a custom Recovery (like TWRP).
TWRP can handle ROM encryption, you just need to install a correct TWRP, and version, for your current MIUI / Android version.
A custom Recovery doesn't change Widevine level.
And TWRP is useful in case of bootloop (because of an installed Magisk module, by example) or if you want to easily reinstall Magisk after ROM update.

Ok thanks, so starting from v11.0.4.0 QFJEUXM, rooted by Magisk (did not wipe Data or so, just patched and flashed boot img), is it ok just to flash (from Fastboot) twrp-3.3.1-0-davinci.img, downloaded from the official site https://twrp.me/davinci/twrp-3.3.1-0-davinci.img
Maybe I could test first by
fastboot boot twrp-3.3.1-0-davinci.img

Yes, it should work.
But I prefer OrangeFox Recovery.

Something is fishy. IMO, if that official TWRP is really ok for 11.0.4.0, then it should correctly boot by:
fastboot boot twrp-3.3.1-0-davinci.img
But phone rebooted into the dark.
TG, I didn't really flash with, so by long pressing Pow it rebooted to system.
Tried again, no avail
Edit:
Tried the same fastboot boot with
twrp-3.3.1-12-davinci-mauronofrio.img and also OrangeFox-R10.1_1-Stable-davinci.img (obtained by unzipping OrangeFox), but it also reboots to dark and I have to long press Pow to reboot to system

You can install twrp by All In One tool
You can find its thread here itself
I took the official TWRP. " Link "
Flashed in fastboat and then booted the phone with a key combination in TWRP.
With the Fastboot command it didn't work for me either, the cell phone remained black ...
