Odd problem with Echo (2nd Gen) - Amazon Echo

Hello,
my Echo Gen2 behaves oddly. After about a day, the speaker does not make any tone anymore.
Everything else is working. If I set a timer, the Ring will flash after the prescribed time, for example.
I have tried to reset with the pin at the bottom (which clearly does some reset, as I have to reconnect the device to Wifi as if it was new afterwards), I talked to 2nd level support of Amazon. He said that there is something wrong with the device, as it does not send the right signals after reset.
Is there anything else I can do?
I am sure, that by erasing the flash and writing a completely prestine firmeware, I could fix it.
Greetings,
Hendrik

NEW QTEK S110 - The initial problems I have found

Hi I recently got a S110 since using it (very basic usage) I have encountered some problems can anyone help?
1.When I plug the mains charger into the S110 and it begins to charge the backlight does not work when I try to turn it on it does turn on as I can see the today screen very dimmly I then have (struggle) to go to the settings/backlight and tick and untick the check boxes there to bring the backlight on. I have to do this every time the charger is plugged in and I want the backlight on.
2. My Phone does not switch off even when I hold in the power button for 2 seconds as the manual says.
3. I am unable to start a new message or create a new contact from the today screen it makes the noise but the application does not open
4. When somebody phones me they hear it ringing in their ear for 20 rings and it only rings so that I may hear it for 8 rings
5. I am unable to use transcriber when writing text messages I write on the screen it beeps as though it has been recognised but does not write the printed text to the screen.
Please can anyone help
Problems Q110
Just received mine this am, generally happy with it although I will look at the problems you listed. I have discovered that it can't be turned off as well as you!
Will post more when I have had a chance to experiment.

@Duncan.M
the 2 second power hold to turn off the phone is an error in the manual.
holding the power button actually switchs the backlight off/on. which could help with your backlight issue.
can you actually use contacts and messaging at all? can you use the HW buttons to open either function? from your problems it sounds abit like not all the default software was installed the first time you turned your pda on.. well except for the ringling issue, i havent heard of that problem before.

@SppedN
My first question would then be. If I want to how do I switch my phone off if it is not holding the top right hw button for two seconds?
In response to your questions after taking two minutes to rtfm a soft reset fixed my inability to create a new txt message or new contact from the today screen & the issue with the backlight not working whilst connected to mains power
HOWEVER THE SOFT RESET HAS NOT FIXED.....
Problem 4 & Problem 5. (please see original thread subject)
@HeronLen OR Anyone else who has the CD Ver.A 06.2005
I would like to try a hard reset to see if that fixes the problems that still exist with my S110 except MY CD player on my PC will not read the CD that came with the phone would you be able to make a copy of your CD and if you have broadband upload it to an FTP/WEB SITE for me or if not even post a copy to me.
Heelo Duncan! I don't understand problem 4.
Do you mean, that when you make a phone call, your device rings x times, but the person you call's device actually rings y times?
I'd try a Hard reset to fix problem 4... it could be telco related delay possibly i guess. you dont actually need to have your pda attached to your pc to perform a hard reset. all the default software for you pda is stored on your pda in the extended rom. so a hardreset wipes the memory and begins a clean install.
for problem 5 can draw in notes with the transcriber? eg even simple straight lines? if transciber doesnt recognise your handwriting it can take a long time or even not display your writing.
oh and to turn the phone off you tap the reception icon in the middle of the start bar and turn on flight mode.

@helterskelter
Hi no I mean the other way around. When somebody calls me the phone rings in their ear 20 times yet it is only audible to me for 8 rings, which means that a) I have to have voicemail turned off otherwise voicemail picks it up after I have heard it ring only twice or b) with voicemail turned off I have to hope that the person calling is persistent (wait for a lot of rings in their ear) for me to get to the phone and pick it up.
I think it is a telco problem as speedn suggests that combined with slow software of the phone function of the S110.
Any suggestions are still welcome - How does everybody elses phone react?
@speedn
Problem 4. I know that I do not need to have my pda connected to my pc to do a hard reset though I would like to make a backup of my appointments etc onto pc before I do the hard reset this I cannot do without having a sd card (which I do not) or connection to my pc
Problem 5. I can draw in notes using transcriber but as theyre supposed to they stay in my handwriting (I think thats supposed to happen) The problem is that transcriber does not convert my handwriting into typed text. I have configured transcriber start>settings>input and it still doesnt work. I have also gone into word with transcriber as my preffered input method clicked on the letter shapes button selected the way that i write my letters and numbers and it still doesnt work, I write on the screen example, A (UP STROKE, DOWN STROKE, ACROSS STROKE) S110 BEEPS but the letter A is not typed on the screen it is stiil displayed in my handwriting. I really need to try a hard reset.
you can set your divert no answer to 30 seconds via your telco or in the settings>phone call forwarding section. and you can download activesync 3.8 from microsoft website. you can also backup appointments and contacts etc using permanent save in settings>system or xbackup to storage..just the appointments and contacts, a whole backu wont fit.

@speedn
Thanks for the flight mode answer.
We must be insync ourselves I was just reading about permanent save in the user manual. Ill try that
I ve also decided Im gonna go over to my mums house and put the cd in her laptop/share her cd drive and usinq wifi copy the entire contents of the cd onto my hard drive and try the install from hdd.
Ill let you know the results
Thanks for your help
Q110
I am not sure how I can contribute further, it would be good to get a fix for the off thing. I am not sure if many airlines will be happy with 'its off but not really' argument! Having interesting problems configuring gprs, why do MS make it so hard!

actually funny you should mention that, i was flying interstate here the other day, and i noticed a new comment from the flight stewards. it was about devices that use flight mode...please make sure flight mode is on.
flight mode switchs off all the gsm radio its the same as switching off your mobile phone. mind you there was also a major Imate Jam advertising campaign throughout the whole airport, 2 metre tall Jams everywhere.

I decided to see if I had any of the problems you listed. It turns out I had #5. I opened a note, selected Transcriber and tried to write something. It beeped like it recognized it but no text showed up. I then did the following:
1) reselected Transcriber as my input method
2) Selected Letter Shape Selector (didn't change anything here)
3) tapped OK
4) Selected each of the menu options at the bottom (just to see what they were)
5) After opening and closing each one, it started working
It seems there may be a software bug in this version of transcriber that causes it to not work unless a certain variable is initialized (by going to each, or one specific menu item first). FWIW, it worked form me.
@roblyman
no that didnt work for me.

Vibration doesn't work...

Hello everyone!
My Wizard's vibration has suddenly stopped working
I tried everything but it still doesn't work whether for incoming calls or sms...
What can I do?
Thanks in advance
Nicolò
What exactly 'did you try everything' ?? And what did you do before it stopped working? Maybe this way we can nail down the problem a bit faster ...
I tried all those settings in the control panel about "notifications and sounds", for incoming calls and sms...but nothing
Before it stopped working I didn't do anything, it just stopped...but I guess I did something, PCs don't go crazy like this
I am not sure if you made any changes in the Registry (actively or by installing software).
If you have not much stuff on your device or if you have the possibility to make a FULL BACKUP (with Spb Backup or similar application) try if the vibration will work after a hard reset (before loading back you backup).
There can be also a hardware failure (vibration motor defect) but before asuming that it is better to check if it will work again after resetting the device to factory defaults.
I re-installed the operating system twice but it still doesn't work
I guess i'll have to get it repaired...
Did you perform a hard reset?
I'm not sure..what do you mean by hard reset? How do I do it? And what does it do?
Thanks
Try searching.

Mine didn't work when I received the phone from the person I bought it from. I opened the phone, spun it with my finger a few times and then put a little spray of WD-40. I let it dry overnight and put it back together. I got the phone in the beginning of March and its been working ever since.
BBowermaster care to share a schematics and opening instructions i have a similar problem

Blank / White screen but everything else works

After upgrading to WM6, every works perfectly. But then, it seemed randomly, the display is blank/ all white, but I can the phone is still functioning, because i can tap on the screen and get the tap sound. Soft reset and hard reset doesn't work. I'm doing the hard reset blindingly since the display is showing nothing, guessing the key push (i pressed record-camera 3x then mail button). I'm pretty sure it did the reset because after about 30 secs I get the beep that comes on when the screen is showing Tap to setup your device.
I figured it might be a loose lcd cable, but if go into the bootloader, power+record+reset. The display works fine! Showing Serial V 2.07.
I took apart the BA anyways and made sure the lcd cable is firmly attached. It didn't work.
Sometimes the phone would go back to normal randomly, or if I let the backup battery drain, but not always. When it goes back to normal, the clock is always reset to 2004 12:00 AM.
Can anyone help me? Is it possible to have a loose LCD connector which won't be able to show normal display, but can show the bootloader normally? Or is it caused by something else?
Here are other things about my BA that may or may not be related to the problem:
-Can't use DOC_Repart to resize storage, I'm getting the FL_IOCTL_FORMAT_PHYSICAL_DRIVE failed as described here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=255585
-When upgrading the upgrade program can't detect my current OS version (showing blank under "Your device is about to be update from:"), but otherwise the upgrade works fine.
-I tried Helmi R0, PDA Viet , and xplode's 6.00 roms. They all give me the same problem
Thanks.
I am also experiencing the same issue... currently phone is at white scren, but using My Mobiler i can see my desktop and see that the phone is fully functional, just white screen so cant use...
Mine too. I can see the display working perfectly using SOTI pocket controller pro. So the phone seems to be functioning except for some reason the screen is showing all white screen.
cubangt, are using an extended battery or the standard battery that comes with the phone?
Have you tried flashing with a different rom??
Sorry, I fear my message won't be useful at all for you, but I'll post it just for the record. I hope you can find the solution to your problem anyway!
My BA now can't show anything but a white screen because of what I think is damage to the screen cable (while sliding the display the backlight goes on and off...).
But the cable is not loosely connected, it is sort of strongly bent at one point, and maybe some contacts got kind of cut. Now it does not work anymore, but some time ago switching it off and the on again used to do the trick: the display would be readable again (even though with annoying colours, stripes and so on). I don't think this is your case, but I'd like to warn the newbies like myself that they should care not to lose any piece while changing the LCD on their BA: I think I probably forgot about some sort of protection which could avoid damages to the cable in its movement.
As for the missing version number when upgrading, the same has always happened to me.. I think.
Ok, sorry for my English, I would have had some troubles with exposing these few silly things even in my mother tongue... bye... and good luck.
I tried 3 different WM6 roms. And if I remembered correctly this also problem also occurred for a brief while I downgraded to WM2003SE while trying to resize the storage(which failed).
Yeah I'm not sure if mine is a hardware problem, since I can always go into the bootloader and the display works fine there.
I have new info to add though. I found out I can reliably get rid of the problem by draining the backup battery. Now I have a new question, since draining the battery takes a while, is there a way to reset the phone as if the backup battery is emptied (and return my display to normal)? If I can find a way to simulate this, then I can actually use my phone again, even if I have to do this once a day.
Obviously soft reset doesn't work. And I don't wanna do a hard reset either. Maybe the experts here now what kind of data is reset when all batteries are completely drained.
Thanks for the help
hmmmm
quick thinking.....i was working on my phone tonight and came across this thread.....if not grounded properly it could be that you statically fried a component in the process?

My speaker phone is automatically turning on! (Solved)

Has anyone else had this issue? No matter which ROM, RADIO, Phone Settings, ect... I have tried almost everything. Anytime I make a call OR receive a call, the speakerphone icon is toggled automatically. I can turn it off momentarily but the thing just turns right back on again a few seconds later.
btw- I have done hard resets, clean installs (task29), removed sim card and sd card during flashes, hard resets after flashes.
Please help!!! My wife is the only one that doesn't seem to mind my problem because she's been able to hear my conversations all day. LOL
I've never heard this one before. It's possible you have a bad phone.
If I were you, I'd flash back to stock (including the SSPL) and call customer service and get the phone replaced.
You will be able to keep your phone until the new one arrives, which could take a couple of weeks judging by input from others here.
You've paid waaay too much to not have a phone that works perfectly for you
My HD2 was stuck in "Car Kit Mode". An Update for HTC HD2 Car Kit Mode function enhancement has been released to somehow fix this problem (link below)
Seems the problem has already been identified in another thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=619859
A quick fix is to plug in a usb cable to a computer, and switch to disk mode or activesync mode. Doing this will reset the speakerphone setting. The reason this happens is the phone is stuck in car kit mode.

Moto X Pure - Screen Ruined - Is the phone still working?

Well, I had the mother of all bad luck yesterday and my Moto X Pure 2015 fell out of my hands as I was pulling it out of my bag. To make matters worse, right after it landed on the ground - a car drove over it Needless to say, the screen is completely obliterated. I assumed the phone was dead as well, however I noticed it was still feeling warm yesterday in the afternoon, so I held the power button down and I was able to get it to reboot (based on the vibration that occurred a few seconds after). I was looking today at LCD replacement assemblies on ebay, and I'm thinking of ordering one to try and replace the screen and see if the phone is still usable (they're only ~ $50).
My question is:
Is there a way to verify that my phone is in fact still working, without the screen? The only response I'm currently getting is the vibration when I reboot the phone. I tried connecting it to my computer as well, but I recall that it was set as the default to charge when connected to a computer, rather than allow me to transfer files - so even if it is connecting - there's not really any way for me to verify that. I did try calling the phone as well and it does ring on the callers end, so it is receiving calls - but there is no ring on the phone itself. I actually likely had the ringer on silent when this happened, so that doesn't really help me either.
I admit it's probably just easier to buy a new device and I did contact someone on Craigslist about a Moto G4 Plus, but I love this phone and I'm up for the project of trying to replace the screen. Just don't want to put in the time/money if it's a done deal.
Any thoughts on how I can try to verify if the hardware is actually still working, without the screen?
Mine still pops up on my computer (running Win7 in case it matters) when I connect in charging mode, so that's not a dead end.
