Reno 10X China (PCCM00) VS Gloabl (CPH1919) version compared - my experience - OPPO Reno 10x Zoom Guides, News, & Discussion

Having used Reno 10X China Version (PCCM00) for almost 6 months now, I must say overall it's a great device, but with some flaws in OS design that needs to be tweaked in order to make it usable. Few days ago, I was lucky enough to buy a used Reno 10X Global Version (CPH1919, my phone is a Taiwan version CPH1919TW to be more precise, but it shares the same rom as global version CPH1919EX) at reasonable price. Since it’s not often to own both China and Global version, I would like to share my comments on PCCM00 VS CPH1919. Since the main difference is the implementation of ColorOS, I think below applies to any Oppo / Realme phone comparing their China / Global version as well.
The PCCM00 has been upgraded to Android 10 beta, but I had used Android 9 for enough time before the upgrade.
Hardware:
Both shares the exact same hardware, no notable difference in size/weight nor screen/camera quality.
Preloaded software:
PCCM00 comes with a lot of bloatware, some of which is not removable without using ADB. It has Google framework, you can easily install Google Play APK and other Google services. (Making them usable is another story, see below). There’s no Google App and thus no Google Assistant, you get Breeno which is useless for non-Mandarin speakers or users outside China.
CPH1919 comes with all Google services preloaded as system app, you can also press power button for 0.5s to activate Google Assistant. There are still some bloatware, but most of them can be uninstalled directly.
Notification icon on status bar
PCCM00 has no option for displaying notification icon on status bar until very recent A44 firmware or Android 10 (ColorOS 7) beta. CPH1919 on the other hand, has this feature from day 1.
Application / Power management
The biggest downside for PCCM00 is its application / power management. Its application management is way too aggressive that by default, no application is allowed to be running in background, except for some common Chinese apps like WeChat. As a result, no application will be showing any notification or push message, or receiving any updates. To fix this, you must select custom power management, set each app to allow running in background, plus setting each app to allow auto-start. However, you are only allowed to set a maximum of 5 Apps auto-start, setting Gmail and Google App already takes you 2 (If you don’t set this, Google Assistant will be reset every time you run, as the system expects the Google App to be always running in the background), and you need to be very careful on the 3 quotas left. Even you have set all of the above for your IM / e-mail / news APP, the system will still sometimes not sending any update all of a sudden (it’s always too late when you discovered it), and you need to restart your phone to get it working again. The ColorOS 7 Beta seems to be a little bit better with more Apps included in the auto-start white list as default (like Facebook and WhatsApp), so you have more freedom on your own choice of 5 auto-start apps.
CPH1919, on the other hand, behaves much like a regular functioning phone. I get notification from all my apps without changing any settings in power management, yet I don’t see any big difference in battery life between the two phones.
Conclusion
I’m very surprised when receiving the CPH1919, that the phone is just so much better out of the box. This also shows Oppo software developers actually know how to properly configure a phone (at least for their Global Rom department). Giving that it’s still impossible to flash the global ROM on a PCCM00 (you can unlock bootloader, flash TWRP and Root, but there’s no 3rd party ROM available, and you can’t flash global ROM on it. The two phone’s partition size are different, see other posts for discussion), I would strongly advice anyone who is interested in buying an Oppo / Realme phone, to stay away from China version. You probably have to pay more for global version, but it’s definitely worth it.
(please forgive me for the screen showing Chinese UI, I was just too lazy to swtich them to English, but you can still see all important info)

Thanks a lot pal, your review deserves many likes, I'm using a domestic Oppo Reno 10x and I have to say that what you said was all truth
Buy the way if you're a chinese guy than I have to be admired your english

Yes...the global device is clearly a superior device. The Chinese device has many impositions due to he Chinese infrastructure and direction of authorities. That can't be changed out-of-the-box, which is probably the reason behind the PCCM00 having a different internal partition table to restrict interchanging firmwares.

We can not blame Oppo for not having Google Apps on China version, what really kills the phone is not allowing any background apps on default (thus no push notification for all apps). From what I've herad Oppo is not the only manufacturer doing this on their China version. I was told the reason is that unlike Google Play store which imposes very strict requirment and check for Apps listed in her store, which includes Apps' power consumption when running in background, China phones rely on 3rd party App store, and there are many junk local apps that eat a lot of battery life in background. In order to maintain reasonable battery life, manufacturers make such decision while only allowing a small number of well known local apps to be running in background.
I think a better alternative is to at least allow the user to choose the power managment behaviour, not only allowing 5 auto-run Apps. There are work-arounds (like disabling Athena process), but it just takes so much effort to make the phone usable.
Unlike Xiaomi, Oppo never values the enthusiast community (just see how hard it is to apply for "deep test" and unlock bootloader), however it seems they are changing their thinking with Realme, at least it is easier to unlock on Realme devices and there are increasing number of developers and 3rd party Roms for Realme devices.

Actually I'm from Hong Kong

Yeah, I've been pretty disappointed with my Chinese model.
I didn't know I was going to get a Chinese model when I bought the phone to use in the USA. At least I only paid $400 for it. :/

My sentiments EXACTLY!! I can't decide whether to just keep it until something better comes out or to go ahead and find a Global model to replace it...

Hey,
this is my first post and i just have a quick question.
I just bought the chinese version since it just cost me about 370€.
It didn´t arrive yet but i´m wondering if i could just download the global rom from the official oppo website and flash it onto my device?
Edit: yeah not possible. Too stupid to read the whole text

If you still have the Chinese variant with you , can you please share the default calendar and notes app . And it would be really nice if you can change the permissions of the said apps before posting . With default permissions the apps won't install . Someone has already shared the app in another thread but that one does not install because of the default permissions.

Thanks for sharing :good: I'm also an owner of PCCM00 which I bought while in Shanghai.
Overall I'm quite OK with this version since I don't use google related apps as often as I was back in US, one thing that bugs me the most is the the security measure on this phone. For example, PCCM00 doesn't come with "touble tap turn off screen" feature, and I didn't feel like changing the launcher with ADB since that breaks the full screen hand gesture. So installing a third-party app with this feature will ask you to turn on "Accessibility Service", but after a while the phone will automaticaly turn this feature off again without you knowing. After consulting on OPPP forum I find out this is how they protect and secure the phone and there's no other way to change it. Well this sucks, I still can't figure out a way or if there will ever be a way.
By the way, did you buy CPH1919 within China or elsewhere? I'm looking to replace my with the global version, still trying to find a seller but I'm stuck in Shanghai.

I got mine used from 'idlefish', also developed by Alibaba but specifically for buy and sell used items.
Global version phone doesn't come up too often, but when they are they often come with discount (since to mainland users global versions are inferior).
Recently I saw a lot of sellers selling new Reno 5G UK version (CPH1921EE) at a discount, however it's still uncertain whether the 5G version will receive ColorOS 7...

Any help to unlock bootloader in global varient ?

Themes and theme store are an issue on global rom (depending upon region unless Asia/Australia from what I have heard). No such issue with the China device.

is that possible to set default browser of china version to chrome.

You have to use ADB to disable or completly uninstall the default browser, setting the default brower doesn't help much.

As the title says. I'm looking to try out a wm7 phone. I have been on android and never used a wm phone before. Is it easy to flash roms onto them? (has anyone made a guide?). Also any opinions from you experience with the phone would be greatly appreciated.
It depends.

It all depends how open minded you are for radical changes in some aspects, Android is a more messed up OS, you have plenty of options(many of which you never use) on the other hand WP7 is a more restrictive OS, you can't do many things here without a full unlock or in other cases (like notification center) even a full unlock won't help(well there is a notification center in the workings on this site(www.windowsphonehacker.com), but i'm on WP7 from the beginning and actually never quite needed one as live tiles are very functional and are capable of storing great amount of information(of course if the developer wasn't lazy and implemented this).
All in all, a fully unlocked device will give you the kind of freedom( sideloading apps, even installing apps from the browser, storing apps in the internal memory of the phone, messing up with the background colors, tiles of the screen, lockscreen customization, creating folders with apps on the start screen, changing values inaccessible for non unlocked devices(like adding *never* option to the lockscreen timeout, and many others).
But you will find and many things that you didn't experience on android, like the search experience, the integrated office experience(a very useful thing if you work with documents), facebook, twitter, linkedin and mail integration and the feeling of security you don't expect from another OS, no bloatware and the stability no other OS can offer, as the speed of the system isn't changing over time )).
Thanks that helps heaps. Im getting less confident in Androids safety since they have the largest slice of the consumer pie. I have ordered one from overseas (dont sell this model in my country) and hope to see it soon.
Some help.

1) Well i can give you some useful advices )) , when creating your live id select your country as US or UK as this setting determines your marketplace region and if the marketplace isn't present in your country you will literally have no apps to install ))
2) As you get your device, don't bother with official updates, install a custom bootloader from here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1485569 , but BEWARE --> check your device revision( 1.3 or 1.4) if you get a 1.3 revision device you're lucky as these usually get more custom love )) and after you install the bootloader you can install this great rom for revision 1.3 : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2016769
or this rom for 1.4 : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2024825
3) In settings of the device there is the Region+Language option, there you select your region for correct date/time/currency and other stuff BUT for the Browser & search language select English United States as this setting will give you the full Search experience( i mean Local Scout/Music/Vision and Voice, these functions are very neat, you'll understand ( search youtube for WP7 search )
4) Make sure you install these great homebrew apps :
- Bazaar
- Bt File transfer
- Blue Manager(requires the previous to work)
- Call Manager
- File Manager
- Folders( www.windowsphonehacker.com )
- Marketplace Config( helps changing marketplace settings so you can download other OEM's goodies )
- Nokia apps( must have)
- Program Manager
- WPH tweaks ( again www.windowsphonehacker.com )
5) The device has a microsd slot, but BEWARE, not any microsd will work for it, you will find a list of working cards here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Samsung_Focus , i myself added there the A-Data 16GB Class 4 (AUSDH16GCL4-RA1) as this is what i use now in my Focus, and it's working fantasticly well for 2 years already.
And there is one more thing you need to know about the microsd, it will not work as it used to work on android phones, here you must install it from the beginning because the OS formats it and it merges with the internal memory, so in the end it behaves like one unified memory, you can't access it aside from your device, and you can't swap cards, ass swapping cards requires HARD REST of the device, so if you plan to put a microsd card doit from the beginning.
Well, good luck ))
If you really can't wait for a Windows Phone 8, Samsung Focus is still available on eBay for about $125. It's worth the money without doubt. The only problem is that it comes with no warranty whatsoever.
Wait and get a WP8?

The Focus is a solid phone (I'm still using mine and I've gone through 3 custom ROMS - I'm currently using Voluptuary's clean WP7.8 ROM), and it's pretty simple to root it and install a custom ROM on it. That said, it's probably worthwhile to get a WP8 device if you can manage the extra cash. Nokia has some cheaper WP8 offerings, if I'm not mistaken. I think the Lumia 620 is $250 or so.

Instead of rooting...?

If I recall correctly, the Priv's OS has some application that checks the integrity of the OS, thus prevents rooting.
And can't we simply flash a new ROM which would be just a clean Android? Maybe unlocking the bootloader would be easier than cat-and-mouse play with the real BB Android.
no it does not exist and the drivers for some hw on the device to work like izat and keyboard won't work, also the priv kernel is also secure along with bootloader so if i see a custom or AOSP rom for this device i will be like on twilight zone
There have been lost opportunities here and there but BlackBerry has been active on patching all security holes and that is why is important to the company that a root has to be impossible or this effort has been all for nothing and they became the newest "Blackphone" (now that rooting was unfortunate for a device sold as a "secure" phone).
I know that there are audience in Android just for root capacity but not everybody are in a "real" need for it.
I like that the BlackBerry Launcher leave most of AOSP element, except for icons and notifications sounds.
Personally I only ever use root for CPU control and ability to delete ANY app I deem fit, and on my previous SGS5 that meant all those heart rate and other nonsense apps that ran in background and chunked the battery to no end.
Gonna assume the Priv then has no CPU management ability due to the lack of root, correct?

Correct. Though, they do use the interactive governor, and while I would kind of like to underclock the CPU a bit to deal with overheating, the default CPU management isn't too shabby. And since the Priv is almost completely stock, removal of unwanted apps is minimal, and all the carrier apps I had weren't system apps, so I was able to actually uninstall them, and what BB apps I didn't care for, I simply disabled. Learning that life without root isn't so bad on the Priv.
I just want root for Adblock for both YouTube and Chrome. I don't care if it's just a temp, as long as it lets me update the Filters for AdAway I am alright with it, I'll deal with the youtube ads.

Well, you could use Firefox. It supports extensions on Android, and ublock works nicely to kill ads, though I find functionally that Chrome runs infinitely better on Android than Firefox does, so your kilometerage may vary.

Not true! The Priv is full of bloatware that you can only deactivate but not uninstall (Yahoo Finances, for example). And some of those apps will stay active and make the phone unusable despite being 'deactivated'. Like BB Hub. I deactivated it from the start and just recently saw that it still had several permissions (location, contacts, messages, calendar etc). So I revoked those permissions. Now it constantly pops up and wants permissions. I can't even add a contact without granting these permissions. Annoying as hell. It's ridiculous that BB regard themselves as a secure company with secure smartphones (which was rebutted several years ago) that emphasize on privacy but when it comes to their own apps, it can't get any more privacy invading. I so hate BB!
So I'm waiting for
a) another producer to make an Android phone with a hardware keyboard or
b) someone to make root for the Priv happen so that I can install a ROM of my choice.

I wouldn't call it full of bloat. Full of bloat is what Samsung has on offer. Yes, there are some bloatware apps that you can't uninstall, but they disable just fine. Sounds to me like your hub got re-enabled, mine has been disabled since day one, and still has no permissions, and doesn't harass me about anything.

Interesting. Did you do any of the BB OTA updates (mine's running the most recent version, 6.0.1, security patch from August 5th)?
The Hub is still deactivated, but it doesn't seem to 'care' about that. I activated and deactivated it again to no effect.
So you're telling me when you go into Settings -> Apps -> BB Hub -> Permissions, all six permissions (calendar, camera, contacts, storage, phone and BB Productivity Suite) are turned-off?
I'm pretty sure I had these turned off when I got the phone in May. So maybe some of the OTA updates changed something about it. Unless you're running the same version that I am.
Oh and the fullscreen pop-up says Blackberry Hub+, maybe this is a new thing then?
And yes, other manufacturers may have more Bloatware. But at least there you can uninstall them or flash a different ROM. And all the BB services like BB Hub count as Bloatware for me, too.
Maybe I should sell my Priv and get a S6 Edge Plus (again). I still got the keyboard cover for that model and it's flashable, although Samsung also makes it hard for the users. But the keyboard cover is not back-lit and the phone is even bigger than the Priv (already too big for my taste).
EDIT: Ah wait! I just saw that the 'Blackberry Services' were activate, so I deactivated it and revoked all its permissions and now the pop up is gone. I definitely had this deactivated before the update, but as with the other BB apps, you have to deactivate them again after each update. Guess I just overlooked this one. Yay!

Yay!

https://puu.sh/qYFcI/bca42bb0e9.png here is a screenshot I just took. I should also point out that I have everything else BB disabled as well, and I've never had to re-disable any of them. I'm on the MM beta program, so that might also make some kind of diffeerence, but I stay up to date with patches, and haven't had to disable anything again. Not sure how it happened in your case, but glad that you got it sorted.
Another thing I do feel I need to bring up, this is also a BB phone made for BB people, so it does make sense that they include the software suite that their fans have grown to love. Sure, those of us who couldn't care less about BB's software, and just wanted in on their amazing hardware prowess, will find these apps bothersome, but if nothing else, visually they left Android alone, and for that, I can't not happily thank them. They could have given us something like a BB10 inspired touchwiz, could you imagine? Lol.
Yeah that's true and I'm also happy that they didn't over-customize their ROM. It's just hard to accept any deviation when you've been used to having full freedom on all kinds of custom ROMs for the last ten years.
Strange though that you didn't have to re-deactivate the apps after the updates. Then I guess I'll look into the beta program (had seen it before but didn't mind).
and I do not have 'Secure Start-up' turned-on.
There's enough bloatware that I'd like to remove, such as "Hang-Outs" & BBM is eating data with stupid pics of available 'stickies' & other crap I don't want to see/read about & my ONLY choice for disable is "Do you want to restore this app to Factory Default?". No, I don't I want to Restore it to Factory Default - I want to DISABLE it. I do understand that the PRIV's supposed to be secure & yes that's a Good Thing. I also understand that most users LIKE to be kept informed. I am NOT 'social' - Let ME decide what I want to be informed about & when. I didn't even get a choice of what subscription (?) I wanted (which is NONE). There's a bunch of apps that I can only Restore to Factory default. That, too me, means I CANNOT Remove or Disable them. I call that bloatware. Un-wanted bloatware. If I could remove them without Rooting, then I would not be looking to do so! I have an 'Essential Tremour' & I NEED a physical keyboard or I'd look elsewhere.
OK: I managed to get BBM to stop shouting at me (as noted: I make mistakes, but I do learn from them); it's just down to wanting to get rid of apps I don't want taking-up space. Rooting a PRIV appears to be dicey, with no firm info from Oct/2016, onwards, regarding 'safe' rooting of my device. I'm running 6.0.1 & Bell is my provider. If it makes any difference, I do not have 'Secure Start-Up' turned-on. As noted, if I didn't need a physical keyboard, I probably would not have chosen this make/model. Guess I'll live with it & keep looking for ways to put my phone on diet (& the battery barely lasts a day, unfortunately). I basically use it as a PDA - no games, few calls, occasional checking notes & calendar - it should last longer.

In order to disable some of the apps on this device they must be restored to factory default. I have hangouts and BBM disabled. My battery life is pretty good. You have to figure out what's killing yours. Do you use a case that has the preview window on the front?
On non rootable devices I use AdGuard to have a firewall and adblocker. It works by routing everything through a local vpn server. Great concept and working fine for me.

After a few years later I bought Xiaomi phone to use stock rom as MIUI. I bought Mi5 and later Mi6. Now I'm with Mi8SE (will continue )

Now I just saw MIUI 11 China Beta released for our and mosth xiaomi phone. I wanted you to see, install this great rom to your phone too.
Here download link page.
How to install?
Just go to TWRP and wipe cache/data,
Format Factory Rest,
Install ROM,
Update Recovery.(if not, it will stuck in fastboot mode)
And That's It...
Keep in mind that this is Chinese build and thus do not come with Google Play Services or any Google apps pre-installed, though they are easy to sideload. The features may also be slightly different from what you expect from global builds as well, given that they’re focused towards the Chinese market. Lastly, the language options are likely limited to English and Chinese.
We hope EU rom will be available this week. And global beta will come soon.

Honor Band 5 alternative Health Health app for other phones

I have been using this cool gadget for several days. I wanted to check how I was sleeping, my heart rate and oxygen saturation. The latter option is usually not available on similar class devices.
To be able to use the band on phones from other manufacturers, you should install THREE gigantic and probably too many applications that want to know about us:
- App store, such a Huawei store (but you can skip this app)
- Huawei Mobile Services (so-called HMS Core) currently version 4.0.3.316, 130 MB!
www.******************/download-the-latest-hms-core-apk
https://appstore.huawei.com/app/C10132067
from this last address you cannot download / install even after logging in! It is possible to download via Ass store, thus it is another coercion
- Huawei Health, currently version 10.0.5.521, 95 MB!
https://appgallery7.huawei.com/#/app/C10414141
Also, you can't download without a store!
and above all set up an account on Huawei servers.
The above files can be downloaded from Chinese Huawei websites, but oddly enough they are in slightly older versions ...
I've done all the steps, but I prefer light, open and privacy-friendly software from the F-doid store.
I would like to ask if anyone of you successfully combined this band with a smart phone other than Huawei and using a different type of health application? I tried to detect it in Redmi 4x through much lighter and "theoretical" apps specific to my device:
mi.health_1.2.5-10205.com (no installation possible, crashes)
mi.health_2.1.1-20101.com (no installation possible, spills out)
xiaomi.hm.health_4.0.17-50274.com (installed, appears in the store as Mi Fit)
but unfortunately failed to connect.

Mi Band 5 without MiFit? (Notify & Fitness)

Hi,
I am considering to buy a Mi Band 5. But I am definitely not going to use the MiFit app, as I don't want to share my health data (or any data, for that matter) with a Chinese company.
So I was looking at Notify & Fitness. I understand that in the past you needed to use a modified MiFit app to obtain some Auth code. I could certainly do that if necessary, using some old, empty, rooted Android phone.
But on the current Play Store page of N&F it says "All Mi Bands 1,2,3,4,5 supported. No official app needed". They even claim that N&F can do firmware updates.
Can anyone here confirm this? Have the N&F people figured out how to pair the device without the AuthKey / completely without MiFit? This almost sounds too good to be true. Even less plausible seems the firmware update claim.
And while we are at it, does N&F allow controlling Android music apps from the Mi Band (in my case, Shuttle+ music player)?
Thanks a lot, and Cheers,
rh

I have just purchased a Mi Smart Band 5 purely for the heart rate and sleep data for Google Fit and I don't like the idea of the data being shared with a Chinese company.
The initial install of the MiFit app seems to suggest you don't need to sign up for a Mi account and offers FaceBook & Google as options, however neither of these work and I get a message saying this isn't available in my region (UK). So I set up a Mi account just to play around with it. It all seems to work OK and it connects to Google Fit and provides the sleep & heart rate data.
I installed the Notify & Fitness app from the Play Store, however it just doesn't work. I have tried with the MiFit app installed as well as without it (using the Mod'd MiFit app to get the AuthKey). It just doesn't connect. The guide on the website - http://forum.mibandnotify.com/discussion/184/band-is-not-connecting-pairing-and-sync-solutions doesn't help at all. It seems to suggest my band isn't genuine?
In the Notify settings it shows the correct MAC address but says 'Band Identifier -1 - Unknown device'. None of the tests in the Notify app work - i.e. display text, vibrate etc.
I have tried three different phones (Pixel 4XL with stock Android 11, a Samsung Galaxy S6 and a S6 Edge running the Pixel Experience Android 10 ROM) and its the same behaviour on all of them.
Its as if the app doesn't have access to bluetooth?
I'll keep playing around with it but its not looking good.
EDIT: I downloaded an earlier version of Notify & Fitness for Mi Band from a mirror site (10.1.4) as opposed to the latest version on the Play Store (10.3.8) and this worked first time. It looks like the app was only updated on the Play Store yesterday so I suspect there is a bug,....

Awesome, thanks for the feedback. :good:
Can you confirm that it is possible to setup the MB5 without ever installing MiFit? Thanks again!
