Guide to Unlock Additional LTE bands in Mido(India Specific) - Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 Guides, News, & Discussion

Hi Folks,
When in Xiaomi launched Redmi Note 4(Mido) in India, at that time Jio was one supporting 4G all over India, hence to cut cost on Licensing Xiaomi approached to Cut LTE band Support in Mido. It launched with support of Band 3, 5 & 40, unfortunately with Time More carriers came with Band 1 & 8. Unfortunately Xiaomi didn't show interest in Unlocking Bands via Firmware update with Lol reason of Hardware Limitations.
But, I have Good News..
I am able to unlock those additional Bands using QXDM tool. It was simple and I tested myself in Different Circle with Carriers utilising Those bands.
When, I started working on Unlocking bands, I got to know in WCDMA, These Band 1 and 8 were enabled by default but LTE wasn't configured to use it. I researched further and came to conclusion, RF Module is same in case of WCDMA(3G) and LTE(4G), no it was just Firmware which wasn't configured to support it. So Basically, It had to support those bands and I went on with my idea and conclusion.
Things required are-
1. QPST Tool
2. QXDM Tool
3. LTE Band Calculator
4. Phone with Working USB Port
5. PC with Windows and all drivers up to date.
First step is to enable Diagnostic mode. If U are on MIUI it's easy to enable. just punch *#*#717717#*#* and You will be greeted with Diag Mode Enabled toast notification. And If are on Custom ROM, then U MUST BE ROOTED. Enable USB Debugging > Connect to PC > Now Open ADB Command Window(Hope U are familiar with this) > type adb devices (Device list will show) > adb shell > su (grant Root permission from phone) > setprop sys.usb.config diag, adb
However U can Use Terminal Emulator app too. Type su (grant root permission) > setprop sys.usb.config diag, adb
PS- Those ADB and Emulator commands may fail to enable Diag Port in Custom ROMs. If fails, then option is to flash MIUI and Use USSD code.
Now in device manager, U will see Qualcomm HS-USB Device with COM Port Number. If Windows is Updated and connected to Internet, Driver will get installed automatically.
Download and install QPST Tool, and QXDM Tool. Now Launch QXDM Tool.
1. Go to Options > Communication > There it will show COM Ports, Choose port and Now Change Target Port to your COM Port.
2. Click on View > New > Common > NV Browser
3. Now Click on Category Filter > Select LTE > Edit 06828 LTE BC Config & 06829 LTE BC Config DIV
4. Put phone in Airplane Mode before editing. BTW Note down default Values. To Read Values, just Click on 06828, in window
underneath select First one and Click on Read button and do same for 06829.
5. Open LTE calculator in Phone, choose Bands U want to enable. To Be specific choose Band 1, 3, 5, 8 & 40.
6. Edit first line of 06828 and 06829 respectively. To Edit, Just double click on Input and enter same Number that U see in LTE
Calculator app and now click on Write.
7. Wait for some time, now disconnect Cable and Reboot device and disable Airplane Mode.
Voila U have enabled Those Additional important Bands.
I have checked Airtel and BSNL 4G using Band 1 and 8 in AP and Jharkhand Bihar, WB, Kolkata and many more.
Attaching Screenshots for all.

Thank you it works...also you can add band 41 to the list used by some carriers.. Also LTE+(carrier aggregation) is also working ,tested in jio B3+B5 in my area.

Glad to know.

@hoshang.govil12 Do i take a backup of EFS to keep the unlocked bands safe? Or are they unlocked permanently. Flash addict here.

U can take QCN back-up and keep it safe. BTW Once u edit QCN aka With this method once it's unlocked then No matter U flash Fastboot ROM or firmware or Anything, It will remain unlocked.

You're wrong.Mido comes with This LTE band 1(2100), 3(1800), 4(1700/2100), 5(850), 7(2600), 8(900), 20(800), 38(2600), 40(2300).No need to unlock.

Indian variant of Redmi Note 4 only comes with 3(1800), 5(850) and 40(2300). Global variant has all those above mentioned bands out of the box.

It just show lte+ if your mido is indian. If you look on network signal guru. It still be using single Carrier. We can see clearly that ul_ca off tag in it. Indian mido's antenna don't support ca. If you have the global Variant you will have ca(lte +) and these extra bands as factory default

It kinda did work and also kinda worked. (Using BSNL 4G)
After following your process I used Network Signal Guru.apk to check if it was unlocked, and it shows those missing networks
. But when I choose LTE in Mobile Networks the network won't show, it remains blank
. I thought it might be network issue. So I inserted the sim in my other phone Nokia 3.1 and it was showing 4G sign.

I m using bsnl 4g. I tried and I unlocked B1. I checked with Network_Signal_Guru.apk. But unfortunately it didn't worked. So I thought it might be network issue so i inserted my sim on nokia 3.1 and their it shows 4g. But on my phone when I turn on LTE on Mobile Network section on settings, the network remains blank. I have read many threads and community pages where all mido users says that it worked for them. But why is it not working for me?

Check in SIM 2 too. But Once Insert Jio SIM and reboot and then Insert BSNL in SIM 2. Or have U tried Factory Reset?

as a wifi user, does it benefit me by unlocking more bands?

What happen if you unlock all bands?
What if you unlock all 44 bands?

See, there are hardware limitations over unlocking Bands and using it properly. On Software side, We can unlock every band but not all band will work as hardware won't be supporting.

Hi Guys, I was trying to read 06829 LTE BC Config Div through QXDM but I am getting "NV Status Error Recieved: Item Inactive"

My LTE on sim 1 not working after unlocking bands
Hay friend, I need your help
I unlocked bands after carefully following your instructions, and I checked it in network signal guru app for confirmation, but now LTE on SIM 1 is not working, it is showing no service, then I placed same sim on SIM 2 port and LTE working fine. 2g,3g working on Sim 1 but not LTE, please help me resolve this issue

:good:
Thank you. your solution worked for me. you saved my phone and my lot of difficulties because earlier i was unable to use my 4g feature but now i can and i don't have to depend on others wifi for my work. Thanks a lot. stay safe and stay blessed.

[experimental] [Idea] Installing Root Cert that means something!!!

alright, So on my GSM HTC 8x (T-Mobile), I got File Explorer working in QPST. I can read and write various NVram values, change band prefs, etc. One thing interesting I found in the File Explorer (Not Windows OS, but for the Fileexp for the modem) is there is a directory called "Supl". In it is a file called "SuplRootCert". I copied it to my PC, and renamed it to "SuplRootCert.cer". When I opened the file, it presented itself as the "T-Mobile USA Root CA". Trusted Root Certificate.
I wonder what this is doing here? It can't be for Wi-Fi calling because the firmware doesn't support it (although it did at one time)..I wonder if we can put our own root certificate here and if the phone will trust it?

The name of the certificate reminds me something about A-GPS, but I could be wrong....
But there is something very intriguing in your experiments: perhaps that way we could enable LTE on the international ATIV S.

I have something you ca try with your Ativ S, if you want:
Try installing the diagnosticApp_Sprint onto your Ativ via the Microsoft Store (Set OEMID to HTC and CID to "null") Then see if you can toast your way to app://e69a2877-59b8-43ed-898d-554fbc4b8b2b/_default#/EmbeddedTool;component/DMSwitchPage.xaml Once there, you can try toggling one of the switches (both will enable the necessary serial Port). When the phone auto-reboots, you should be able to connect it to the PC. Once Windows Update finds and installs the drivers (I am assuming it will do this for the ATIV S), launch the "QPST Service Programming tool" (QPST can be found on the forum if you search for it) Once that tool loads, pick out your device and click "connect". Once that loads, click "read from phone". now go to the UMTS System tab to set your band preferences. (My 8x had all of them enabled by default) (I have nothing to compare it to, so YMMV). Once you have made changes, just press "write to phone" and wait for it to reset. Hopefully then you will have LTE enabled!

You can do this with samsung diagnosis, open it and enter *#7284#, then select QC RmNetComposite. After doing whatever you want, you can go back setting it to MTP again.
The phone will reboot when you change this value.

Obviously, the new version of the diagnosis app (the one included in the official GDR3 update) inhibits that code...I think I will decide myself to restart from GDR2 and upgrade with the "polish" hack, in the end. I was too lazy to do it, Now I have at least a good reason to do it....

How did you do that? I mean... I have a GSM HTC 8x as well and I'd like to edit the registry (mainly to change roaming preferences, bands preferences and if it is possible, the accent colors). Is that possible?
I have installed the Sprint Diagnostics app but it only shows the IMEI info and the SIM card info, nothing more. It does absolutely nothing else. Am I missing something?
You need to install @cpuguy's Native Toast Launcher
and paste this inside the box.

Oh well, no problem with that. I'd like to know if I can enable the AWS band on my phone (I got the c620e version). By the way, working with the modem, can I set some MCCs to be recognised as "home" network? Because I use a MVO and the whole time it says it is roaming (when it actually isn't).

I did all of that on my HTC 8x (model c620e) and it did work. However, I'm kind of stuck because Windows doesn't detect the appropriate drivers for the phone and all I got is "HTC Composite device". Do you have any driver that I can use?
@cybermiguel It did that to me at first, too. Make sure the PC you are using has Internet, right-click on the "HTC composite device" in device manager, select "update driver software". Then tell it to search automatically for drivers. They will "magically" appear.

Verizon - Entered *#*#4636#*#* , Selected 'Select Radio Band' - Choose 'USA Band.'

Hello,
I am currently in South Africa and I was having a problem connecting to 'data services.' I posted in another thread about the data issue and a user recommended I perform
*#*#4636#*#* ,
'Select Radio Band' -
Choose 'USA Band.'
Restart
After I did this, the phone would now not connect to the cellular network AT ALL.
I reset network settings, now I factory wiped my phone and still it is not connecting.
Can someone advise what the correct Band 'Should be.' When I enter the Select Band menu I only see:
Set GSM / UMTS band:
Options to Select:
USA Band
Band mode 6
Band mode 7
Below in the Phone Info page it has 'Set preferred network type which is set to LTE/GSM/CDMA auto (PRL)
Can someone please help?

[GUIDE] How to Unlock Bands/Frequencies on LG G3 (WIND)

So after multiple hours of research I've finally put together a guide on how to get WIND working on an LG G3 D852
Download this zip for programs you'll need to actually unlock the bands: https://mega.nz/#!9o1QGKhb!pXdFUIr7uHpwBXBo1loFcqXjySWoyqhu-nB0ihHMk1o
Make sure your phone is rooted! There are multiple guides on this so just do a bit of googling.
Install LG United drivers from here: http://www.mylgphones.com/lg-android-usb-device-drivers
Install ADB driver from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=48915118#post48915118
Install QPST from the zip
Enable USB debugging
Connect your phone to your PC and open adb
Enter the following commands
Code:
adb start-server
adb shell
su
echo 1 > /sys/devices/platform/lg_diag_cmd/diag_enable
setprop sys.usb.config acm,diag,mtp,adb
Open QPST Configuration from your computer's start menu
Click the "Ports" tab
Click "Add New Port"
Uncheck "Show Serial and USB/QC Diagnostic ports only"
Add all the com ports that show up
In QPST one of the ports should have a number show up under "Phone" in my case it was "MSM8974"
That's the port you want to remember
Navigate to where you installed QPST and go to QPST/bin and open RV_NV_Manager.exe
Click Settings> Comport> Choose the COM port from before that had a phone
Click on File>Read from phone
Once it's done loading go to line 1877 and copy the decimal number from the right side of the program
Go to where you extracted the zip and open "mztool"
On the left side set "Input Radix" as decimal
On the right there is "RF BC CONFIG" paste the number you copied from before there
Switch tab to "Band Preference(NV Value)
In my case (LG G3 D852) I selected
Code:
GSM: 07,08,19,21
WCDMA: 22,23,25,26,49
After you're done selecting all of those copy the number from the bottom right and remove all the commas
Then paste that number into RV_NV_Manager to replace the number you originally copied
Click "Write NV" and then press File> Write Changed NV to phone
Restart your phone and enjoy your new bands!
This was tested on a LG G3 D852 running Android 5.0

Enable Carrier Aggregation On Redmi Note 3 pro

Redmi note 3 only support intra-band Carrier aggregation(same band), it does not support inter-band Carrier aggregation(multiple bands)
Steps to enable Carrier aggregation on Redmi Note 3 Pro
Reliance JIO and Airtel in India supports carrier aggregation.
JIO supports Band 3+5, Band 5+40 or Band 3+40 ( 3+5 is stable)
Airtel supports Band 3+40 in some states.
To enable carrier aggregation on this handset, please follow these steps. It can be used for other handsets also.
PREREQUISITES:
1. The bootloader must be unlocked.
2. Phone must be rooted.
3. ADB should be installed and phones USB debugging mode must be ON.
4. Install QPST and QXDM tools
Link to QXDM tool:

2. Open the command prompt with administrator rights.
3. Go inside ADB folder via command prompt.
4. Type <adb devices> Your phone must be listed there if everything is alright.
5. Type <adb shell>
6. Type <su> You must grant SU permission in the phone.
7. Type <setprop sys.usb.config rndis, diag, adb>. You will hear beep. It means your phone entered in diagnostic mode.
8. Then open QXDM professional tool. Go through options>communications and select your phone port in target port
9. Click NV Browser in View section. Go to RF LTE in category filter.
10. For B3+B5 CA, find RFNV LTE B3 CA BC CONFIG AND click Read at the right bottom. This will read default values. Type 20 and click Write to overwrite the values. Similarly, find RFNV LTE B5 CA BC CONFIG and type same value 20 to enable CA both 2 Bands and reboot phone. You will see 4G+ when CA is active.
11. To enable CA on other combination of Bands, download NV calculator by vndnguyen from Play Store. In LTE Bands section, select Bands of your choice and it will tell you the Decimal value to overwrite. For example, for Band 3+5 combination, it is 20.
12. Reboot phone.

Uper right 3 dots band locking

Use network signal guru app to find two good bands in ur area and follow the guide.. i hav added band 3 and 40
if any other app show which band connted
With forced band (for CA) download speed is worst so I've reverted back to original values.
We can find lots a topics about CA problems on Xiaomi phones... and that's right, sadly.

Not much difference.... I get around 2-3 MBps in uc browser

carrier aggregation

Snapdragon 439 support 2ca but i tried to enable it via qxdm for band (3+40) and tried to write rfnv lte b3 ca bc config and rfnv lte b40 ca bc config with the value but both showed no such file exist and when tried to forcefully write the value, the network gone and radio modem seemed to restart automatically
Though recovered it by writing both values as 0
