Moto G6 Plus HDMI via USB type-C - Moto G6 Plus Questions & Answers

Could anyone, please, let me know if there is a way to use the USB type-C connector to cast video to a HDMI input? I have a Moto G6 Plus connected to a EKSA ET9-H HUB which has HDMI and VGA outputs, but none of them delivers video signal to my TV.
Thanks in advanced.

You would need to have USB 3.1 Gen 2 phone to support such an output/input, whereas Moto G6 Plus has USB 2.0 only over USB-C connector to offer. Better duplicate your screen via chromecast-like device. If you need input you would need some kind of supported video-grabber over USB OTG I suppose.

Thanks. A very clear answer.

[Q] MHL Adapter with OTG

Hey guys,
I received today my MHL adpater
http://www.ebay.com/itm/171436891054?_trksid=p2060778.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT
The signal to the TV is working fine.
My problem is when I'm connecting devices to the USB host port, there is a power over there but my phone not responding, while those devices are working with a simple OTG cable.
Some help over here?

I have been looking for the same thing, an MHL - OTG - charging dock/adapter/dongle, I have not found anything that people report as working reliably on the S5 (I am also looking for one to work with a Note 10.1 2014).
Have you tried to connect a power supply on the micrUSB port? I have a MHL adapter and it needs external power.

Yes, I did.
I even tried connecting a USB hub and I saw there is a power from the USB Host.
Please give me a link for what you're using a direct link to eBay item.

There is a chance that will work?

I was under the impression you can either use mhl or otg. Not both at the same time. You tried just using the thumb drive by itself without the hdmi plugged in?
anyone had luck finding an adapter allowing you to use hdmi alongside otg?
anyone found an adapter than can do hdmi and usb host at the same time??? there seem to have plenty for s4 but nothing for s5?? although s5 is using a newer and more capable mhl if i am not wrong

i received this one
it works well at same time as otg and hdmi
i am just not satisfied with the quality of the hdmi output.

i meant the image quality,to just watch and control your device its ok,to watch a 720p movie its not ok,video will be blur sometimes and it will be a little delay at sound.
few days ago i used a friends standalone hdmi adapter was performing amazing even at 1080p.
it is very nice thank you very much

I got that hdmi connection kit and it works great with my S3 doing hdmi 1080p and otg simultaneous + charging. But with my S5 it will only do hdmi 720p or otg not both. Image quality is poor on the monitor but great on the HD TV.
Maybe "Display Link" is the way to go to get wired screen mirroring and otg at the same time on the S5?

Reliable HDMI CONNECTOR

I've tried a couple of devices that claim to connect V20 to tv by wired usb c to HDMI connector. They work for a while then the picture is lost or the phone itself freezes up. About the longest play I've gotten successfully is an hour but usually something goes wrong within 15 minutes.*
The phone has been out over 6 months now so I thought someone may have found a really dependable HDMI connector? I don't mind the lack of power in because I can always change batteries but phone should be able to play through HDMI long enough to watch one movie. That's all I really need hut I don't want to have to screw around with it 10 times to watch one movie.
Thanks so much for your help!
I've been wanting to make use of this feature, but haven't extensively yet. I have though gotten to make fair use of a micro-USB to HDMI adapter. A few trouble spots come to mind here.
Sounds like you're powering the adapter/phone from an external power source? How good is that power source? My micro-USB to HDMI was distinctly less reliable when plugged in since I was merely powering it from a normal USB port. Try running it entirely from the phone's battery. If this works better then it could be you really need a higher power source when using the adapter.
How good is your HDMI cable? Depending on how strongly the phone/adapter drives the HDMI signal, a lower quality cable could break the camel's back.
I've been running into a different bit of trouble with USB-C to HDMI adapters. I've found several of these, but whenever they've got a USB-C pass-through, the pass-through is strictly for power and does not carry the USB signals. The MyDP specification allows for USB3 to be passed through if 1 or 2 pairs are used for the HDMI signal, but allows for USB2 to be passed through no matter how many pairs are used for the HDMI signal. There are adapters which also include USB-A port(s), yet none which include an external USB-C with the USB signals. Grr!
I use C to HDMI not micro usb. V20 doesn't use micro usb. It uses slimport. I have one adapter which allows simultaneous charging and one strictly slimport C to HDMI. Both behave the same way. I have a high quality 2.5 foot HDMI wire.
Power source was Samsung tv usb powered output 1 amp. Point is I have the same issue with pure slimport and no charging.
The one that allows simultaneous charging does in fact charge and work but always craps out but so does the slimport C to HDMI.
Hmm, entertaining what you find when you do research. I suspect the V20 is using the "MyDP" specification, which is the official specification name behind "Slimport". Seems there are at least two other video out methods for USB-C.
I haven't done enough with the video-out feature of my V20 to have much experience yet. With a V10 whenever an adapter was plugged in without external power there were no problems, but when an adapter with external power was plugged in video wasn't reliable.
I'm interested in reading if you find out anything.

Sorry I haven't tried, but its seems to connect smoother the a wifi dongle.
does anyone know if there's a compatible dongle for the V20 with not only hdmi but also power input and usb host?
Happening to me too - Any suggestions
Your situation's description fits my problem exactly. I have a USB C to HDMI that was vouched as working by several V20 owners. I plug it into my Dell monitor to play games on a bigger screen. It works well for a while, then disconnects and popup on my screen says something like, "LG Bridge has stopped working do you want to exit?". Once this happens, it's almost impossible to get the V20 to share the screen again. It's not a hub, just a USB C (male) to HDMI (female).

I don't know, I just want to be able to join the phone to my TV through cable connection.
It's my second OP since the 3T and at the time I didn't need that feature
It's not possible, use chromecast
Negative. I asked customer support. The only way to connect is wirelessly. 1+ doesn't have MHL support.

Display to external monitor?

Since our port is USB C and I have an HDMI and VGA adapter in hand, I have tried connecting the phone to an external monitor.
But, nothing works. Is there anyway we can get an external monitor working?
You can't because A1 don't support mhl, as far as I know it required the phone to have usb 3.1 to support usb c to vga/hdmi output. But you can use chormecast if you want to use wireless method.
Edit: Nope, check the Xiaomi official page:
https://www.xiaomist.com/2020/05/xiaomi-phones-compatible-with-mhl-what.html?m=1
Wasnt MHL a old standard? The USB-C should have a HDMI Alt feature. You should try connecting a device with native HDMI input, without VGA or other adapters.

What is the difference between "USB-C to HDMI Adapter" and "MHL"?

When I search if Samsung Galaxy S8 supports MHL or not, I am getting crazy.
50% of online articles say S8 does not support MHL including mhltech.org link and technipages
Another 50% of online articles say S8 supports MHL.
It obviously supports USB-C to HDMI Adapter which is only one side with Type-C port and another side with HDMI port cable.
If S8 does NOT support MHL, what is the difference between "USB-C to HDMI Adapter" and "MHL"?
Does "USB-C to HDMI Adapter" have worse video output than "MHL"?
Thanks a lot.
The Galaxy S8 uses Displayport alternate mode for video signal.
This is a "standard" feature of the USB-C standard.
You can use a USB-C to HDMI adapter, but you can directly connect USB-C screens to the phone.
Another advantage is that it supports charging the phone in the meantime (using USB power delivery).
USB-C supports ultra-HD screens and several monitors (but not with the S8).
MHL was used on older Samsung devices which sent video signal over a micro-USB connector.
This is somewhat of a hack, as micro-USB wasn't indended for video signal.
So yes, USB-C is much better than the old MHL standard.
