E-mail notification dot on icons - Google Pixel 4 Questions & Answers

Hi,
I received my Pixel 4 last weekend and I'm quite happy with it.
I have tried Gmail app as well as Outlook app and I can't get the "dot notification" on the app icon to show up when I have new e-mails.
I do have the notification of new e-mails at the top of the screen though but I have several accounts and I would prefer to have the dot notification to directly press the right shortcut to access the inbox than to scroll the notification page down and see which account has new e-mails.
I checked in the app that the "dot notification" is enabled and in the mobile settings (under "app and notification") as well, all seem enabled.
Anyone would have any idea please?
Cheers,
Axello

Email notification

Is there any way that I can get a message notification that an email has been sent as there are no options to do this in "settings" -> " personal" -> "sounds & notifications".
Also, is there any way I can get notification following a send/receive request in "mail". There seems to be no way of knowing that the request has actually been done.
Thanks in advance

there's no real way, when you send an email, the server doesn't send back a "message sent successfully" notification, it will just send you an email if it isn't successful.
which way are you send/recieving? there's like 3 ways taht i can think of off the top of my head - in the TF3D screen using the soft menu, in the outlook app using the soft menu, or in the activesync app clicking the sync button. in the outlook app you can tell because when you click it at the bottom it says connecting, etc, and when it goes back to the summary of your inbox then it's done. in activesync it's really obvious, when the activesync symbol goes grey it's finished. in the TF3D there's no notification of when it's finished.
get advanced config and turn on the message sent notification bubble thing
Thanks for your replies. I have been using the TF3D screen but will use the outlook app from now - Thank you.
I have downloaded the advanced config but can not find any reference to email notification only sms.
Thank you
sorry, i thought you were referring to phone message, not email :s

Email Notification

When I get an email in Gmail on the Xperia X10, there is a quick, "New Email" that flashes in the menu bar. After that there is nothing. Why is there no steady email icon on the menu bar? Is this a 1.6 deal? I've been using 2.1, till yesterday.
I've checked off "Notify In Status Bar When Message Arrives" in Gmail settings.
go to the email app and set your notifications and how often it checks for email. not the gmail app. the email app.
No. That doesn't do anything.
Hi...I created a ringtone and added it to a folder called Notifications. I found this out from another site. However, the ringtone fails to associate itself with emails - - it rings when I plug my phone into a USB for example. This is a normal "notification" and not what I want. I did find a notification folder under media>audio>notifications. When I moved my ringtones to that folder they showed up under my ringtone options. However, the ringtone does not trigger when I get an email. Still playing around with it. I've lost the notification for emails which is probably due to something I've done editing folders on the phone...

I spoke to Sony Ericsson tech support about this and they draw a blank. I called Rogers Wireless, which offers the phone and they don't know. Any Android phone I've ever used, and I've used several, has a Gmail icon in the notification bar when you have mail in the inbox. Not this phone.

Email notification

My problem is this when for example I get an sms notification icon in the top bar I tap on my messages app and read it. The icon in the notifications bar goes without me having to clear it in the notifications panel. However this is not the case with emails if I do the same the only way to clear the icon is to do it by pressing clear button in the notifications panel. Any ideas why this is and how I can get it to do the same as a sms notification?

Also I view my emails in the all accounts tab, I have my hotmail and gmail accounts linked with my hotmail account as default.

Hi, just to let you know that I don't have this issue.
When I get an email I get a notification on the top bar and my Mail shortcut on the home screen shows a number in a blue circle. I either tap the mail icon or swipe the notification bar down and tap the notification. I then tap the email to read it, exit out and the notification icon goes.
I would add that the number in blue circle sometimes takes a few extra seconds to disappear though.
For info I'm using an unrooted DHD with stock ROM - incidentally I also use Advanced Task Cleaner 2.0, but I doubt that would make any difference in notifications?
I feel for you though as it would really bug me if the notification icon didn't go! I hope you get your issue resolved.
I have now found if I open the email app with the account view I get this problem. If I open it in the hotmail or gmail view then there is no issue.

Email icon with unread email

I would like to have an email icon showing unread email (pop3) in my arc with the native Sony apps. It's possible?

you mean in the left upper corner of the screen?? in the account settings you can set a ringtone for a new mail, and also visual mail notification. i get an '@' in the statusbar upper left when i got new mail.

I think I know what you mean. I used to have an HTC Touch HD and the icons for SMS and Email would show how many unread texts/emails you had. All you get in android is an icon in the notification area. It's taken me a while to get used to which icon is which as I have hotmail, gmail and sms.
Is there any way (or an app) to have the shortcuts show you how many unread items there are instead??

Just found a couple of apps called Gmail unread count and SMS unread count. These are widgets which kinda works. Can't figure out how you go and change the options once you've added them though. Maybe I have to remove the widget and add it again.
