Unlocking Bootloader of OnePlus 7 Pro removes Widevine L1 Certification? - OnePlus 7T Pro 5G McLaren Questions & Answers

i got the 5G Mclaren. Usually I unlock the bootloader and root my phones (Magisk), to be able to use apps such as TitaniumBackup and Magisk Modules like YouTube Vanced.
Has anybody rooted their phone and can report back the availability of Widevine L1 and passing of SafetyNet (Magisk and/or DRM Info) after rooting?
Thanks!

Unlocking the bootloader removed L1, yes.

I'm using 7t pro EU, But that doesn't my matter. I just answered your question

Right it does remove it, but can you keep the Widevine L1 Certification somehow? or Restore it after unlocking the bootloader?

When you unlock the bootloader the Widevine L1 Certification is removed (for example Netflix will no longer work).
if you lock again the bootloader, Widevine will work again.
But you can also unlock the bootloader and install magisk, this way you will be able to use apps like Netflix (Widevine L1 should be working).

That's only on pixel phone as far a I know.

(Also magisk doesn't really have anything to do with widevine)

My OnePlus 7T Pro is rooted with magisk, and Netflix is fully working. Before using Magisk, Netflix was blocking me to play movies.

Because Netflix doesn't require L1.
L1 - 720P and up
L3 - limited to 720p
You can check your widevine level here.

Thanks for that information, I did not know that L3 was enough.
Also in Netflix we can check the Widevine supported.

No Netflix will work on L3 too, it just doesn't has HD/HDR. Also widevine L1 changes to L3 because of bootloader, not root. So magisk won't help there. It only could make Netflix work, but you won't have HD/HDR

Does the L3 also prevent the Chromecast I connect to from streaming in HD? Or just the phone itself?

Chromecast and Android phones are working independent, you just "share"/send the URL to the Chromecast, it opens it and streams from that source, so nothing to do with the phone.
So yes, even if the phone has L3, Chromecast and any other stream device will work in HD, so it's only the phone

Check in the service menu to see if it is unlockable *#*#7378423#*#* under software configuration I think it is, if it's a sim free network unlocked device(like from Sony store) it should be ok. If it's supplied locked to a network like EE, T-mobile, Verizon ect it's probably NOT unlockable the days of root on locked Bootloaders is over on new xperia device's if not all devices

It has been a few years since i've unlocked a bootloader on a xperia device so I'm a bit confused:
At the moment it's only possible to obtain root with an unlocked bootloader but unlocking my bootloader means the DRM keys are whiped. I cant do a TA-backup because i have no root yet. But the DRM-fix in this kernel will fix everything so I wont loose any functionallity? So TA backup isnt needed any more? and does unlocking the bootloader still has consequences?

Now if only we got this for the only bug-free version (34.0.A.2.292)...
I assume flashing 34.0.A.2.292 over rooted 34.0.A.1.277 will cause loos of root functionality, right?

I would assume so, but I can't get 34.0.A.1.277?*Customized US to boot with the kernel to try it. Strange that it works for me with other customizations, just not US. And I can't live with the reception loss on LTE if I flash anything other than US/Canada firmwares. Granted I'm new to the Xperia scene, but seems like kernel should work with 34.0.A.1.277?*across the board.

Keep DRM L1 with unlocked Bootloader

Hi Guys!
There must be a way to keep the L1 state of WideVine DRM with an unlocked bootloader. It's the only reason why i reverted to complete stock after i rooted the phone 10 minutes after recieving. I want Netflix in full HD because i pay for it and the only reason i can't enjoy it on my phone is that i am using it the way i want to use it....
Hope there is a way... Thank you in advance

It's not without root it's with locked bootloader, no root is not enough
And you can relock bootloader safely only if you're all stock (ROM + recovery)
I relocked, still L3, reran msm tool, still L3...i am convinced once u unlock the bootloader u lose L1 forever.. .maybe some smt mode msm wipe and restore of the modem.. that seems to be key to bypassing simlock and stuff. @Darknightmare....u know anything on this man?

Nope, not forever. When I first got my 6T I unlocked the bootloader and rooted. A few days later I went back to stock and re-locked the bootloader. I just checked using DRM Info and I'm at L1.
I unlocked the bootloader and rooted with Magisk without TWRP or any other custom recovery and Netflix seems to still be playing in HD for me. I don't want to pay for the 4K Netflix upgrade though so I don't know if UHD would work or not.

You used the keyword "Seems". It definitely is not HD. Currently there is no way to have HD with Netflix with unlocked bootloader due to losing Widevine L1.

do you have the T-Mobile converted to international phone ?
did you try and update with the Full zip from System Update / Local update ?
Edit: just check my phone is the same as yours playstore not certified and widevine L3
I tried with and without this module just now. I pass safety net, and come up certified in the play store setting my device as a 6T (A10). I'm in LOS 17, but I use this on many devices, should work fine on OOS too for those rooted using Magisk.

You can't revive it. The keys are different for every device, you e wiped yours and without a backup you cannot restore them ever, not even with MSM

so is widevine l3 for always on this device.....and its became normal op6t rather than mclaren ones now...how can i revert back to mclaren rom
No, widevine l3 instead of l1 is what happens when there are no DRM keys on your device. These keys are unique per device. They cannot be restored. Going back to mclarren stock ROM can't fix it, they've been removed and cannot be put back if you don't have backups. Restoring a ROM or flashing a stock ROM is not a backup. Sorry friend! I did this to one of my Sony devices.
---------- Post added at 04:49 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:20 PM ----------
Sorry I misunderstood you. Yes, your device is now L3 for good.
You'll need to flash a McLaren stock ROM to return your device to normal. It will not fix the DRM issue though.
Further to the above I've just remembered one more thing: OnePlus devices wipe their DRM as soon as you unlock the bootloader. Game over before you even flash anything .

No. Not possible. they're not a simple text file, they're insanely complex and specific to your exact device. You unlocked the bootloader, they are gone.
It isn't an issue. I have 20:20 vision and Netflix at 720p is fine. I only discovered I was on l3 a year after I got the device
