Root Method and TWRP for the Samsung A20e - Help - Willing to Pay/Donate - Samsung Galaxy A20 Questions & Answers

Hi,
I have the Samsung A20e, the bootloader is unlocked, however, i have followed guides from:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-a20/how-to/root-samsung-galaxy-a20-rooting-guide-t3954872
and
https://www.androidinfotech.com/root-samsung-galaxy-a20e-pie/
and
https://www.getdroidtips.com/root-galaxy-a20-a20e/
all have failed......
I am more than happy to help test if a device is needed
I have tried partching the entire AP file using Magisk and I get a successful flash but when i try to boot it gives a vbmeta warning.
when i patch only the boot.img using magisk, i get the same error.
If I try to flash the "unofficial Twrp Image" i get a boot loop....
Please can someone help me get my a20e rooted at least, TWRP would be amazing to have but there are no custom roms anyway, so root is the most important for me so i can use titanium backup, energized ad blocking etc......(a lot of apps i have need root access)
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help me
thanks

You should try to patch your device's boot.img with Magisk and flash it via Odin.

Seems like you also need to flash some kind of vbmeta image. I don't have a lot of experience with newer devices, so i won't be able to help you.

So copy the whole AP file to the phone, patch it with magisk and then flash the ap file?

Here is what I did.
DL Zarchiever and Magisk Manager
Copy AP file to phone.
Open Zarchiever and extract AP file.
Extract boot.img.lz4 to get boot.img.
Open Magisk Manager and tap install and select patch.
Rename magisk_patched.img to boot.img.
Open Zarchiver and compress boot.img using tar format.
Open odin and flash boot.tar on AP.
When the phone boots you'll be greeted w/somewhat looks like recovery mode just select factory reset.
Note: Enabled OEM unlock and USB Debugging is enabled in Developer Options and BL is unlocked on DL mode

I'll give it a try.... Thank you so much, I hope this works, I have had the phone for 3 weeks now and I can't use it because I need titanium to restore all my stuff.
The smart switch app is terrible, it messes everything up, so I figured wait until I can root and use titanium

Honestly, I have been doing this for 10 years plus, I even remember rooting the HTC Evo 3D and HD2 with damn wires pressed on connectors in the back of the phone!! I know my way around phones, but this A20e has completely stumped me!!!

Yeah, I totally feel you. Did a lot of trial and error w/this phone but got it in the end.
Since you have Zarchiever installed you might want to edit your param file to remove those pesky boot warnings.
Put your BL file on phone.
Open Zarchiever and extract BL
Extract param.bin.lz4 and you'll get param.bin
Using Zarchiever copy and paste svb_orange.jpg and booting_warning.jpg to param.bin
Compress param.bin using tar format.
Open Odin and flash it on BL
Note: Make sure USB debugging is enabled and rooted already.

So I did what you suggested, I copied and patched the AP flashed and booted, but when i used a root checker it said i was not rooted.
So I flashed all the original AP, BL, CSC etc, the phone is now booting again.
There must be an extra step somewhere thats getting missed, is there some wipes or something i need to do after odin? Factory reset? Clear Cache

Ok So I tried this method again for the 3rd time, I did the following:
1: I took the whole AP file into the download directory
2: selected to patch a file from inside Magisk 7.4
3: it did its thing and created magick_patched.tar
4: Copied magick_patched back to my computer
5: I flashed that in AP, removed the tick from auto reboot
6: then booted to recovery and did a factory reset/cleared cache
7: booted fine into
8: reinstalled magisk manager and it tells me that Magisk 20.1 is not installed
There is nothing wrong with that process is there?

Hi,
I tried this again as per the link you sent, this is what i did:
1: extracted the boot.img.lz4
2: used zarchiver to get the boot.img
3: used magisk 7.4 to patch the boot.img
4: used zarchiver to compress to boot.tar
5: flashed the boot.tar in AP in Odin
6: rebooted to recovery and restored factory settings
7: rebooted system
It flashed fine and then also booted up, however the screen stays on for a few seconds then just displays black.
The back light is still on, I can see the screen glow slightly, but the colour of the display is blank and completely black, and I cant get the screen to come back on, so I reinstalled the latest magisk and I seem to have root (Hopefully) !!!!!
Lets see what happens in a day or 2!!!

Lost your exynos s7 root? here is how to get it back

if you are like me you already realized that running odin again to install, CF-Auto-Root-herolte-heroltexx-smg930f.zip won't do anything.
1) put SuperSu zip file somewhere on your phone (https://download.chainfire.eu/964/SuperSU/BETA-SuperSU-v2.74-2-20160519174328.zip)
2) you will need to reinstall twrp-3.0.2-1-herolte.img.tar via odin AP but don't auto reboot (https://dl.twrp.me/herolte/twrp-3.0.2-1-herolte.img.tar.html)
3) manual reboot and IMMEDIATELY go into recovery by holding down the magically combination. if you missed it then you will have to do step 2 again.
4) once in recovery install supersu zip from step 1 and you will get root back
should work for s7 edge (935) too but you will need to use the correct files
hope that help

OP has missed one step.
You have to flash boot.img from official samsung firmware through TWRP(if you have TWRP installed) or you can install through odin. Make sure that your build number matches with firmware file. You have to do this before you are going to reinstall TWRP. After flashing boot.img file you will stuck in bootloop don't get panic. Flash supersu along with encryption disabled file attached in link. Then boot into android. You would definitely see supersu along with superuser script installed. No you have root access. Cheers

Get from sammobile.com
U can download any samsung firmware from there. You will have to just search your device name to show the relevant builds. Makes sure that your build number (on your phone settings-->About-->build number ) is same as the file you are going to install

Stuck in bootloader

I have a Nexus 6p with android 8.1.0 and i was using the pixel 2 mod for nexus 6p, which i installed via TWRP flashing the zip file. I was trying more custom roms, but any worked, so i came back to the pixel 2 mod, but then, when i oppened Super SU, it stated something about the binaries. The solution i found was to install a SuperSU zip file via TWRP, which i did, but after installing it, my nexus wouldnt pass the boot animation, it wasnt acting like the infamous "Bootloop of death" the n6p and n5 has, it just didnt passed the boot animation, so i researched and saw that the solution was to delete de SuperSu file with the TWRP file manager, but whenever i deleted the file, wiped cache and booted again, it wont pass the bootanimation, and when i came back to twrp, SuperSU files were still there, and it seems i cannot erease them. What can I do? I tried restoring the phone with a back up i had, but nothing, flashing again the Pixel 2 mod for nexus 6p and anything.. what can i do?
@ernestomn98 just flash the boot.img of whatever ROM/Firmware you are on. You should use Magisk it's much easier to use and passes safety net so can use Google pay and such.

No problem and yes it's that easy. If the ROM zip is on your computer can just open it, copy the boot.img, then paste outside the folder. You can do that also with good file Xplorer on your phone but yours is not booting so no good. Transfer the boot.img to your phone. Boot into TWRP select install from zip . You will have to press the button to switch from zip to image file. Then select boot.img and flash it to boot section. Now your back to original and can flash Magisk zip. An easier method would be to just dirty flash the ROM your on but what fun is that. ??

That phone is non root able there is no twrp for it so magisk won't be able to patch your IMG to give you root and kingsroot and Kingo are most effective with KitKat and lollipop phones... Marshmallow and up which I'm asummin you have is a dead drop with one click root apps and apks sadly.... Next time you get a phone u got to research to see if these things are possible

You should download the original ROM of your phone and then rename the file AP_A205xxxxxxxx.md5 to AP_A205xxxxxxxx.rar and extract it. Copy boot.img.lz4 file to your android phone. Use the app ZArchiver to Extract file boot.img.lz4. output boot.img file. then use Magisk manerger patch to create the patched boot.img file
I think downloading the original ROM only takes about 20 minutes. If the root error occurs, use it to reload the phone firmware.

Root SM-A205YN
What I've done so far
1. Download magisk manager apk
2. Download June update rom for phone from Samfrew https://samfrew.com/model/SM-A205YN/region/VAP/ (original not available for my model through samfirmware.net
3. Use zarchiver to copy AP_205xxxxxxxx.md5 to download directory. It will extract it from the zip.
4. Rename AP_205xxxxxxxx.md5 to AP_205xxxxxxx.rar and extract using zarchiver
5. Copy boot.img.Iz4 to download directory and extract (resulting in boot.img)
6. Use magisk manager to patch boot.img (use top install) result magisk_patched.img
7. Rename magisk_patched.img to boot.img
9. Use zarchiver to compress boot.img to boot.tar
What I will do next
10. Copy boot.tar to pc
11. On phone developer options in settings unlock OEM and enable usb debugging
Edit: unlock bootloader
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pgDS9K7JCrk
12. Turn phone on download mode
13. Connect phone to pc
14. Use JOdin (Mac version of Odin) to add boot.tar to phone (use PDA)
15. Restart phone
16. Hold power and vol+ to enter recovery mode.
17. Select wipe/reset data
18. Restart phone
19. Run magisk manager

23. Install root checker and verify root
I'm still waiting for some courage.

Touch screen issue after booting into magisk on my SM-A202F/DS (samsung galaxy a20e)

So I have recently decided to root my device. To do this I used magisk to flash the boot file onto my device using Odin. All went as planned. But due to my phone being launched with android 9 I have to boot into magisk from stock recovery otherwise my device will boot into a non root enviroment. So I boot into magisk. Nothing goes wrong there either. But as soon as my phone boots up, I try to begin my phone setup (due to flashing a new boot file I had to factory reset) but it turns out the touchscreen doesnt work. So I try to boot into non root enviroment. Touchscreen is fine there but it doesnt work in the root enviroment. So for the root enviroment I have to use my mouse which is connected to my phone thru otg cable. Can anyone help me please to solve this issue as it definitely isn't hardware related as this post is being typed from my Samsung galaxy a20e in non root mode. If you could help me out it would be highly appreciated. Please if anyone has an answer or a solution then please let me know. Thanks.

Its confusing. But when I mean boot into magisk I have to press the recovery key combo when booting my phone and let go at the splash screen to have magisk installed. Whereas to boot into recovery I wouldn't normally let go. And to boot into non root enviroment I don't press anything and then I boot up as normal.
Its confusing ik.

that is a samsung cloud link to my video showing what happens. I've had to pause it at a few points for security reasons and as I had to get something at one point. There is no audio. The link expires 1st July

So I patched the whole stock ap file with magisk then I flashed the patched ap file with the stock bl file and the stock csc file and the stock cp file. I hope I got all that right. All of them were in the correct slots. And I didn't brick or boot loop my device. But in root enviroment touchscreen doesnt work but in nonroot enviroment it does. I've tried to factory data reset it but nothing came of it.

Yes sir
So simple & fast... no fussy boot.img patching with specific Magisk versions, etc!
How will you install updates?
Thanx

Excellent! Thank you.
For others when installing oos update; disable magical modules, install oos update, before restarting install Magisk to both slots using the app, reboot, enable modules if any.

Are you sideloading the zip, or maybe when you downloaded the magisk zip, your Mac automatically unzipped it so you now have a directory.
I haven't used this root method, but I use Macs once in a while, and that's one of my annoyances with one of the Macs I use.

What would I do to remove the directory just delete the file ?

You have to just make sure you have the magisk zip file instead of an unzipped version. Next time I'm working on a mac, I can play around to see if I can replicate your problem.

I finally had some time to try this out on a Mac and everything worked out for me. I couldn't get the same error message you were getting. I did use Magisk v22 though. The only thing you'll have to do is rename the .apk to .zip.

Thank you.
Works on OnePlus 8 India.
Since the recovery link in OP is deleted, I extracted the latest one myself.
Here's the recovery from crDroidAndroid-11.0-20210517-instantnoodle-v7.6
This didn't work for me, I got this error after running sideload. Any idea how to resolve this?
