Lenovo A5500-HV custom recovery, root, custom ROM? - Lenovo A3500 Questions & Answers

Dear XDA members,
I'm posting this under A3500 thread because I can't find my model-related posts anywhere on this forum. I've recently acquired a Lenevo A5500-HV tablet second hand. I first intended to use it just during live gigs with my band so I can scroll through tect and chords so it was more than enough. Now I want to mod it to my needs since it still has a 6hr screen on youtube time (so battery is ok).
I've started with rooting, it was oe click with KingRoot app, no problems, verified with root checker and some root exclusive apps like Official TWRP app.
The problem is I can't find TWRP or CWM recovery for that model for -->android 4.2.2<-- OR upgrade to 4.4.2 (because I found recoveries for 4.4.2).
Second thing is I can't find ADB drivers for it.
What can I do, is there another model's custom recovery that I can use (that won't send me to bootloop like it is now), is there a way to modify other model's recovery, what are the possibilities?
I know it's an older model, but I'd appreciate any info you can give me.

Root and install ROM on Alcatel One Touch Idol X Plus

Hello,
So i had search ways to root my Alcatel One Touch Idol X Plus, found some like using "Super One Click" and "Mobile_Go", but didnt manage to do the root because of some errors during the rooting process, so i need to know if its really possible to root my device with this programs or new ways to root.
Secondly i need to know where to find some Custom Roms for my device (i know its a low popularity device), or how to update to KitKat.
Thanks in advance

@DewiLLpt There are various apps available to root your device.
I'd suggest to try the one click root methods before trying to go further deep.
Here's a few you can try.
1.Framaroot
2.VRoot
3.KingRoot
Try and report.
Your device doesn't seem to have any custom roms but the news is that you'll be updated to KK later this year. The news is not official though.

Thank you @vaisakh7 for the reply!
I tried the Framaroot, error nº8 shows, so i use the VRoot and works perfect, my phone is now rooted, also installed some apps that required the root and works fine.
Will wait for the KK or any custom rom.. but what can u say about this one its legit?
Always make all necessary backups and preferably a FULL backup of Roma who have, before proceeding with the installation.
To install the rom must have the TWRP 2.6.3.0 already installed, here I leave the links where they can consult all the information to make root and install TWRP.
TWRP Recovery 2.6.3.0: https://www.dropbox.com/s/3ur623tu4uvzqnb/twrp-2.6.3.0-advanced-6043D-c92-v2.img.7z

androidiani link: http://www.androidiani.com/forum/al...dolx-s960-guide-root-recovery-rom-custom.html
After entering the TWRP make every wipes, format and system format custpack and only after installing rom.
When you first install it is normal if it takes a little tear (do not worry is normal).
As far as possible I will making improvements and weekly updates.
Attention, installing the ROM is your responsibility, not blame me for any damage caused to your phone. And to point out that the installation of the ROM is losing buying / manufacturer warranty.
Hugs, and Enjoy It

Hello friend,I to have Alcatel one touch idol x+ plus and I have rooted with kingroot app in 2 minutes(For rooting install kingroot and run it on WiFi or 3g, you can obtain root access safely) .The popular custom rom which is the called "LEWA ROM" which is stable, bug free is available to idol x+ but I didn't applied the rom because before apply a custom I want to make a full backup of Built-in rom but I can't because there is no sd card.I am still searching and thinking that is there a possibility of backuping using twrp manager through otg,Any I will try later .

Trying to [Root] Note 3, not sure what method to use.

Hello,
Samsung Note 3
I REALLY want to root my phone to help test out the beta of f.lux. You can look it up if you want, should take you a a peachy orange page. Anyway, I really want that on my phone, and it needs root, and I've NEVER rooted a phone before, and I'm not sure what I'm doing.
I want to follow [this guide](http://www.phonearena.com/news/How-to-Root-the-Verizon-Samsung-Galaxy-Note-3_id48247) PhoneArena link, but it doesn't say what android version it needs, and that worries me.
One more thing, I downloaded a file called "fastboot" and it has something to do with ADB that disables certain apps so that I'm not nagged to update. I'm on 4.4.4, and I can't find that file, I think it's in the root of C:\ but I ran them and it didn't work. So if I could reenable those apps to get on lollipop or marshmallow, if rooting would be easier, I'd do that. I've searched the forum, but I need baby steps.
Thanks.

If you're just looking to try out f.lux you could give Cf.lumen a try first. It has a non-root mode.
If you want to root you can just flash a custom recovery like TWRP with Odin.

You say, just flash, as if there is no risk. I want to get it right, no bricking. I'm on 900V (V for verizon), and I want a quick safe way to root. Also, thank you for mentioning Cf.lumen, I do have it, and the nonroot looks like ****, yes it works, but it's not remotely the same.

I recommend visiting TWRP's website and pick out the latest version for your device and then flash the latest non-beta version of SuperSU which you can find here on XDA. Flash TWRP with Odin and then boot into recovery and simply reboot, it will then ask you if you'd like to root your device.
What model do you have? Find your model first then download TWRP recovery. Use odin to flash the recovery, then flash super su.
Odin - http://www.droidviews.com/download-odin-tool-for-samsung-galaxy-devices-all-versions/
Supersu - https://download.chainfire.eu/743/SuperSU/BETA-SuperSU-v2.52.zip
Complete edit.
O.K., so I see that TWRP has a backup option. If I use this option, and should I "brick" my phone, could I flash the TWRP in odin, and figure out how to restore the backup, and unbrick the phone if I screw up the root process? Because that would be ****ing amazing, and I'd root IMMEDIATELY if that's the case, because, no worries -- I'd always have a backup! I love backups.
You need Root for TWRP to backup .
Suggest you read the stickeid FAQS and guides .

First things first, EXACTLY what Note 3 model do you have? Go to Settings -> About -> Device model. If it is SM-N9005, that would be quite surprising, because we didn't get a 4.4.4 build.
American Note 3s got a 4.4.4 build, N900A, N900V (AT&T Note 3 and Verizon Note 3 respecitevly), and the methods for rooting THEM has nothing in common with the way a N9005 or N900 is rooted.
900V. Verizon, 4.4.****ing4. I had .3 but it kept nagging me to update like trial software and that was probably the end of my chances as I recall I most likely have a locked bootloader so I may not be able to do any of this.
Why can't I make a full backup on stock android anyway, seems like the responsible thing to do.
Verizon then use the verizon forum anything from here is wrong and may brick your phone .
Full backup requires a modified recovery therefore no longer stock .
Ah so it's the stock recovery that is used. So why do you think that lacks options for a full backup?
When you say use Verizon forums is that a section here or a dedicated Verizon forum?

Samsung Galaxy J3 (SM-J320P) Virgin Mobile (or any carrier) Support???

Wondering if anyone in the know has heard of any development going on for this device? I recently bought one and it's not a bad phone for the price, but I've seen absolutely -nothing- on it anywhere online for the most part. It's barely root-able with what I've been able to find, and no custom recovery or really anything custom has popped up that I've seen.
Not sure if it's just that it's been only a few months since the phone came out, or if it's just not that great a phone. I upgraded from an HTC Desire 510 to this, and it was heavily customized/rooted/etc, and I want so badly to get back to where I was with it on this phone I cant stand it!
I also want to root my Galaxy J3! I just want to root it so I can use AdAway and Titanium Backup.

Right now rooting isn't the problem so much as keeping root. Because apparently the colonel has protection and will remove root whenever you reboot. That means things that require root on boot like backups, Xposed and a lot of other things won't work for us until someone complies a kernel with root protection removed. You can do some debloating and possibly the AdAway but that's about it right now.
*kernel. Damn voice to text.
That sucks. I upgraded from an LG Volt and I was able to do a whole bunch of stuff on it. The J3 is still very new, so hopefully development will happen soon.
I just got this phone if there is anything i can do to help move this along let me know. I have the virgin mobile one.

I guess that would depend on what you have experience with and what you can do. Thus-far root has been able to be achieved with Kingroot, though it wont stick through a power cycle (reboot/power off/etc), and using any of the methods available (at least that I'm aware of, only found two legitimate ones) to replace Kingroot with SuperSU (to facilitate having root stick past the reboot hopefully) causes a soft-brick every time forcing a re-flash of stock firmware through Odin.
At the very least make your voice heard, if nothing else hopefully more popularity will come this devices way and we'll see some development for it. My roommate is considering writing something for it, but it is a long process working solo, so anyone who has experience working with kernels or editing stock rom/writing custom roms feels up to helping out, shoot me a message and I'll get it over to him. He's a fairly experienced programmer and picks up what he doesn't already know pretty quickly.
Got one recently too. Would also appreciate any more information on rooting.
I have a J320A (AT&T) came stock with 6.0.1, can help test if needed

I know this is an old thread, just making my rounds looking for anything on the J3 myself (SM-J320P Boost, Virgin, etc...) and have found TWRP & permanent root with Chainfire's SuperSU (system-less though). Everything is great except a lag issue with supersu. There is an exposed by wanum that works as well. Only app that has root issue so far is ES File Explorer. If anyone is still looking hope this helps.

Anything yet for J320A/Z models? (AT&T/cricket)
This version of TWRP won't work will it? Totally different phone?
EDIT: just realized the guy above has the same question... something tells me we won't see root on the ATT/cricket variants for a while.

Try official TWRP of galaxy J2. Your variant shares the same specs as J2. Others also did this to galaxy On5, it works 100%.
what about the
SM-J320VPP = the verizon pre paid planversion. any working roots for me yet?

So can you confirm this method works? Does OEM unlock setting in dev options unlock the bootloader on AT&T variant? If so couldn't I temp root and flash TWRP via Flashify?

It doesn't work tried it 3 times. I even tried other ones no luck. They locked this thing down. Im surprise chainfire haven't tried this phone yet.
Hi, guys! I understand it was an old thread, but I was referred here from Reddit. I have a Galaxy J3 (SM-J3109) purchased in Mainland China (Service provider is China Telecom). I rooted it with Kingo Root. Kingo Root stated that it successfully rooted the device, but the phone OS had given me warnings about unauthorized access to the device or something.
One week later (I did *not* reflash the phone nor install any applications after I rooted the phone) I found the phone stuck in an annoying bootloop. The device status is still "official" and the Knox counter is still set at 0x0.
Now that it's bootlooping I'd like to know if it's possible to take the applications and files off the phone before I factory reset it. It's not looking hopeful as I read similar threads from 2012 saying that once other Android devices bootloop, getting stuff off of them is impossible. I tried using ADB to take data off the phone (while Odin3 was detecting it being connected to the PC) but ADB doesn't detect the phone. Should I try a different cable?

Best advice would be to try flashing the stock firmware with odin. That shouldn't delete any of your data and will usually fix a bootloop. You can Google your phones stock firmware and see if you can download it.

Thank you so much! I tried using Odin to flash a software update and it worked perfectly. The phone is back up and running and all of the files are still there!
Right now i have TWRP 3.0.2 with supersu and i havent lost root yet also had no problem switching between backups, xposed working fine and also overclock too with setcpu, im currently running 5.1.1 using j320FN but TWRP was from j320F, i will put up links to the files if any of you are willing to try its up to you.
TWRP flash through odin : http://www.mediafire.com/download/blk7qa90vs6wik3/TWRP_3.0.2-0_SM-J320F.tar.tar
Supersu flash through recovery then update through playstore then install busybox after through playstore : http://www.mediafire.com/download/cpv2c71cp11x41f/UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.76-20160630161323.zip
Remember to turn on usb debugging and turn on oem unlock before flashing recovery, also if you manage to get recovery press they grey box on the right to change language to english. Hope this might help somebody on here because we really need full root for everyone.

HTC M9+ Supreme Camera: htc__622: is it safe to be rooted?

Hi all,
I've been out of the android world for a while and i got back to this attractive world with an HTC M9+ supreme camera. and a chinese tablet with MediaTeck chip in them.
i tested to unlock bootloader on the tablet using the fastboot command oem unlock but i ruined it and it is now totally dead not even turning on.
my question, is it safe to root my phone? what is the difference in rooting and unlocking bootloader between MediaTeck and Qualcomm chips as i used to develop for qualcomm and it was fairly easy to unlock and root such devices?
what do you advice me to do to remove all Chinese apps and bloatware from this phone if rooting is not going to work and if i root-only my phone without unlocking bootloader just to remove the bloatware apps can i still receive htc OTA for marshmallow and install it?
sorry for my long questions but i really need those info to get back to android ROMing and being more active toward our community.
Thank you all
Yes it is safe to root. I rooted my HTC One M9 Plus Supreme Camera yesterday with no problems.
You have to "Unlock" the bootloader first. It will restore your phone back to factory so make sure you have all of your pics and files backed up.
Rooting is gaining root level permissions to make changes to system files. There are several videos on youtube that show how to do it. I watched the one by sakitech for the M9. Good step by step directions. You will need TWRP 2.8.7.0 for the M9+ and the latest SuperSU.
As far as the Chinese apps, I just deleted them. Go the the app drawer, tap and hold on the app, and drag it up to where it says "uninstall". You don't have to be rooted for that.
thank you
Minachvim
hi @flymacs thank you for answering my question.
i had great knowledge in rooting android devices but i need to know if it is safe with Mediateck device. also can you find stock recovery and rom for this device? please send me the link you used to root the device.
thank you
Minachvim
I followed the thread in the General section for the M9+ here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/one-m9/one-m9-general/howto-rooting-m9-m9pw-htchiaumltuhl-t3116327
This thread hes the TWRP links: http://forum.xda-developers.com/one-m9/one-m9-general/recovery-twrp-2-8-6-0-english-m9pw-t3116099
I also needed to review my fastboot knowledge so I watched this youtube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rOHN8byHAzk
I could not find stock recovery. I like android 5 better than 6 so I decided that it didn't matter to me. I don't plan to unroot my phone.
I flashed TWRP and used it to make a stock unrooted backup. Then I used TWRP to flash SuperSU. Booted up the phone to the Home screen. Rebooted to TWRP and flashed the sd card write fix from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/not...ipop-external-sd-card-write-fix-fob6-t3051562
TWRP has issues flashing from the external sd card, so put SuperSU and any other files you are going to flash on the internal storage.
So to answer your question, yes it's safe to root, but for this device, it might not be possible to unroot until someone can find a stock recovery.

Root SM-J337A Samsung Galaxy Express Prime 3 (2018) Via Magisk Method

EDIT 3: It appears this device has a locked bootloader, which means that twrp wont work, and that device tree was a waste of time... I guess I'll just wait until someone or Samsung releases the firmware for Magisk.
EDIT 2: I have successfully built a device tree for this device using TWRPBuilder's script on github. Although it might not be fully complete, it is still a start. Note: I built using an android 8 release. Does the boardconfig.mk file still work for android 9????
I plan on comparing it with a different device tree to make sure nothing is blatantly wrong with it, but I'm not a developer so I don't know if that will help.
(Anyone willing to help me? If I could efficiently navigate the linux CLI I would probably be much faster...)
My current plan is to build TWRP for this device to back up the ROM so that I can use Magisk.
https://github.com/TwrpBuilder/twrpbuilder_tree_generator/blob/master/README.md
Link to device tree builder for those interested. Dont even ask how long it took me to realize I had to add the commands to the end of the java executive instead of typing TWRPBuilder -r recovery.img. command.
-------
EDIT: To those that read, Samsung has restrictions against downgrading apparently. Currently, the only way for root is by waiting for someone to share the official stock ROM. The first half of this method about getting the firmware Does Not Work I don't know about the rest...
-----
Hello everyone,
I would first like to say that I think this is a working method, but I want to double check with someone who has rooted before.
I have the above mentioned phone, and after a ton of research, have determined a path to rooting it through Magisk. I'm currently running Android Pie 9, on the latest stock firmware from att.
This phone does not have A/B partitioning, but has system-as-root and it will require a copy (and Magisk patched) ROM to root.
One of the main problems I have is not having the latest firmware for my device. (Don't tell me to look it up. Its non-existent on the web) I have found that Samsung's Smart Switch will allow you to obtain the official ROM.
However, to download the ROM, I have to have an outdated phone. The most recent update for my phone was to upgrade from Android 8.0 to 9.0.
I assume such an upgrade requires the whole ROM to be downloaded.
Is it possible to use an outdated ROM for my phone (Yes, I have one for android 8) and downgrade my OS so that I can then update from Smart Switch and get a copy of the current firmware to use with Magisk?
Edit: apparently Samsung has protections against downgrading. I tried samfirm but to no avail.
Anyone know of any compatible custom ROMs?
Will keep trying to root though...
I know many people will immediately say yes, but this phone is different.
There is no OEM unlock in Developer options (read more about this further!), and there is no fastboot. There is no TWRP for this phone either (some older threads on Magisk mentioned TWRP, so I am confused if I need it for rooting via Magisk)
I have discovered, that if you were to hold HOME + POWER + UP, on powerup, you can get to a warning about installing custom OSes and an option to continue.
I pressed continue.
Someone on the web said pressing up will wipe the phone, since it unlocks the bootloader.
My phone did not get wiped.
Is my phone's bootloader/OEM unlocked?
I want to know because I Think Magisk requires an unlocked bootloader.
If Magisk doesn't, I'm all good, and I am glad I can install custom OSes (not my goal, but will do if desperate)
If it does require it, I believe my hone already has an unlocked bootloader/OEM
One last note, does downgrading trip anything? I have no warranty, but I know there are other protections (like KNOX) that could affect the outcome.
(I've heard downgrading won't change anything)
Is there anything I need to turn off?
To Recap:
Downgrade OS
Update via Smart Switch to get stock ROM
Use Magisk to root my phone.
I'm simply asking if everything will turn out OK.
(Sorry for the exceedingly long post)
Thanks.
I don't have this phone but I wanted to have one, but after I realized there is no method to unlock it, you are out of luck I also have a phone laying around (Zte Avid Plus with android lolipop), I built a ROM and recovery for it but I realized there is no method to unlock the bootloader. The only method is to get your hands on the bootloader from this device and try and modify it and pray that it works. That is just how a lot budget devices are built nowadays. And that's sad. The thing is that there was a successor to the Zte Avid with the same specs but it ran Android Oreo. Meanwhile the Avid ran Lolipop. A method from manufacturers to always force us to buy new phones.
