HDMI problem with Lineage 16, Lineage 17 and LuisROM - Samsung Galaxy Tab S5e Questions & Answers

Hello guys, so I just tried all the ROMs available here, Lineage 16, Lineage 17 and LuisROM, the HDMI output is messed in all of them (flickering etc), it just works fine using the official Samsung Android, any thoughts? has anyone else tried HDMI on those ROMs? I have a gts4lvwifi, Thanks!

Me too. Had this thing since it was first released, but tried USB-to- HDMI for first time a few days ago.

I found a 'workaround', it works sometimes, so still not guaranteed... reboot your tablet and once it is loaded again, just connect the usb to hdmi adapter with the external TV/monitor already turned on, I got the image stable with LOS16, the downside is that in the original Samsung ROM DEX mode we could select the output resolution, and now we can't (I tried all the options possible, even in the developer options), so the video signal output was in my case 4k 30Hz, which makes the whole system slow (TV and tablet), I was trying a SNES emulator and the lag was horrible, impossible to play. In DEX mode was perfect because the output signal was something like 1600x900. 4k is too heavy for this SoC to handle an external TV/monitor.
Regarding the resolution problem I found this thread but didn't test (I can't post links yet, damn XDA!)

Thanks! I'll give it a try and report back. Any clues as to where you found the thread? Search criteria, maybe? Also, even though you can't post links, you can strip it of the things that identify it as a link, then post that. ?

USB-to-Serial port on Athena

Hi!
I am trying find info on how to connect a standard USB-to-serial adapter to a Athena (7500 and 7510). I was thinking of using the VGA-out, connecting the adapter to the USB-port on the adapter that is connected to the VGA-out. Right now, I have a FT232 R USB UART connected to that port and my Athena asks me to enter the devicename, but of course it cant find the devicedriver for this adapter.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to successfully get a serialport from any of the available outgoing ports on the Athena? USB-port or VGA, doesnt matter at the moment.
Also, I tried installing Zenos driver package (Zeno USB Host Drivers v6.0a), but no luck there.
Any advices, tips or ideas are welcome

Edit

Found and installed drivers (http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm), it seems to be working. Will test this further.

If anyone knows any software for sniffing on COM-ports, please let me know.
Solved!
Ok, its now working. The device opens up on COM10.
Have taken shots of the connections made (hardware) and a screenshot from the application used on the Athena. This has been tested on both 7500 and 7510 and its working perfectly. The application used is from the makers of the chip in the adapter, FTDI, and on my computer I used hyperterminal.

If anyone's interested, write a line and I'll supply more detailed info.
Interesting. Are you just using the serial connection for file transfers, or some other reason?
I downloaded some Youtube videos/songs for my son and he plugged his PSP into the USB connector and I couldn't believe it when my x7500 showed a new Hard Drive on TotalCommander.
This 4-in-1 adapter cable is awesome, as I can use my Athena as a regular computer and watch qood quality YouTube and other movies through my 26" HD TV or connect music through my surround system. If you're considering this cable, it will not disappoint you!

We sell these devices with our software pre-installed, our customers are fire- and rescueservices, ambulance and police and the idea is to connect other "radiounits" to the HTC for communication with specific coordination-centrals (f. ex. in sweden thats SOS Alarm). Sorry but I cant really translate it any better than that
We have a few other things in mind as well, too early to write about them here though, and most likely its nothing that will be of any interest for the general public.
Fully understand what you are trying to say, sounds like a cool extension of functionality for the Advantage. Keep us posted as your "other things" come to light.
Will do. This fantastic community has provided me with so much info and I will contribute as much as I can.
My next project is a registrysniffer, realtime. Have just begun but it looks promising.
Good morning, I was not able to install the cable can you help me?
thanks
Sure I can help, would need a but more info though. You cant connect the multi-purposecable to your device? You cant connect the usb-2-rs232cable? Your driver wont load?

Thanks for your your post. I have an N9 and hope to try this for fun if I ever get the time... My preference would be to port it to my Note 2 which is also collecting dust (currently using Note 3). Sailfish OS has some nice aspects and the fact that it is gnu linux based and handles multitasking in a more native way than android might draw some folks to it. I think it would really fly high on these threads if someone can come up with a decent port to a high end android device. Until then it may be stuck in the doldrums. for awhile...
btw. I find it ironic that we're talking about a port to a device (N9) which does not have its own section on XDA. (please correct me if I'm wrong here!)
Yes it doesnt have its own section
My SIL uses a Nokia N9... will give it a go when I get some free time.
thread updated
I have made a custom android 6.0 port
I'm still working on it. I just finished my high school and am busy with exams. But I hope to have it on by end of this year or early next year. It has lots of bugs as of now. I can't seem to begin fixing the problem no matter how much I tweak. Main issue still remains with the telemetry and hardware drivers. The camera works without flash. The moment you turn on Flash or leave Flash Auto and snap a pic. The moment the flash goes off, the phone will die immediately. Then Bluetooth doesn't work as of now. So you can only share files via a USB connection or through FTP on common network using a File Explorer with such capabilities. The cellular connection just won't work. I don't have the knowledge to build drivers for it to work. I can't get it to work from extracting the drivers from Sailfish Jolla port. Wifi works but let's be honest it's 2.4 GHz only. It works choppy. At times it'll disconnect automatically for no reason at all. But at least it works. It works well for me. Battery drain is one problem that cannot be fixed. A 1650 mAh battery isn't exactly enough even if you run Android 4.4. So it lasts for 4-5 hrs on standby. It's just for fun. I just wanted to see what it was capable of. And I may decide not to complete this project if the bugs can't be fixed.

Anyone know if this is a unified build?

With CM12, they are de-unifying the builds. You could potentially try it out and see what the effects are. For sure, the system.prop file is specific to Verizon networks.
I'm working on getting one ready for us (jfltespr). Mobile data and WiFi works, and I'm doing some testing to see if I can get everything else working properly.
Once I do some more testing, I'll throw up a build if I can find some space for it.

The CM12 ROM on the i9505 forums is working about 90% right now on my Sprint GS4. It has mobile data , WiFi, camera, sound, video playing , RIL , Bluetooth, video recording, external SD card works. The list goes on.
Awesome news! I would assume that they're all fairly similar. The build I made is working fairly well too. I posted it in general, if anyone wants to take a look. Can you put a post for the i9505 ROM you are using? If that works out better, I'll take mine down -- no reason to duplicate efforts!

[Q] leaf microsd for rooted nexus 4

hi guys sorry if this has been answered i yet to find this particular answer so im hoping i can be guided in the right direction, i have read a few things but all they talk about is the actual otg cable and not the otg device i use which i think draws less power
heres what im trying to use:

"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
and this is what i keep reading about:
i know this may be a dumb question but i am kind of slow and it's been awhile since i done all this so im rusty, with that said is there any possible way of using the leaf with a rooted nexus 4 beside using the y otg? once again i apologize if this has been answered just looking for quick guidance, thank you for your time and hope you have a good day.
I believe you would need a custom kernel that has OTG enabled for anything like that to work. Unfortunately I can't speak to the concern of power draw, but I believe that it would also need power that the Nexus 4 can't supply.

so the leaf and the otg are pretty much the same in which i would still need to supply power? by the way thank you for replying
Yes, I think for both of them power would need to be supplied externally. I have no experience with this leaf device and so I can't be of much more help on how to go about doing that. Sorry.
You need to use Y cable. Something like this Amazon link
Not exactly, because the leaf device OP is talking about is not a USB device, rather a microSD device.
I have a Dash micro laying around. If it works on my Nexus then that Leaf should as well.

What's the deal with Android 10?

Hopefully someone, possibly a dev, can clear this up. I've been wondering this ever since the first A10 custom rom came out for the X00TD: Why do all A10 roms suffer from the following problems? I remember testing more than a dozen different ROMs and all of them suffered the same issues. Issues that weren't present on stock, mind you.
Issues that I noticed:
1. Mic quality was consistently all-around abysmal. Even if you amplified the mic volume through custom kernel settings, the horrible quality would still remain. I found that the fix to this problem was to download the ASUS Sound Recorder app that comes with the stock ROM. Simply having the app installed fixed all the mic issues. To this day, I still don't know why. This isn't the main point of the thread but I would appreciate it if someone has, at least, a theory.
2. GPS was absolutely horrible. Time to first 3D fix in clear weather with no obstructions took roughly a minute and a half (tested with the GPS Test app). Sometimes shorter, sometimes MUCH longer but consistently more than 20 seconds. Too often would I open Google Maps, get ready for a drive and have it not detect my location because it hadn't gotten a fix yet. Even after getting a fix, if you stopped using the GPS for a few seconds and moved a few meters away, it would take excruciatingly long to get a fix again. I've tried editing gps.conf and numerous other solutions but, at the moment, this issue still remains unsolved.
Honestly, these are the only two that really bothered me and if it weren't for the solution to problem #1, I would've stayed with stock as these, combined, are huge deal breakers. With that being said, I should reiterate that these problems DO NOT occur in stock and have never occurred.
On the other hand, these problems are completely absent from Android 11 roms. GPS locks on instantly and is equal to stock performance and microphone is clear and flawless without needing to install Sound Recorder. Why is this? Why all these problems and why aren't they present in Android 11? Please, don't hold back any technicalities as this intrigues me very much. Cheers!
