Is this a good phone for roms - Moto G7 Questions & Answers

Im looking to run linage mostly. Are there a lot of roms for this phone or not so much
From what I reead this phone may not be the best for roms.

Well there aren't a lot of developers for this phone. But thanks to Google and project Treble we won't need nearly as much developer support. You can actually flash quite a few ROMs, here's a link to project Treble https://forum.xda-developers.com/project-treble

No, there are not a lot of ROMs available and little development. But it is an excellent phone at a good price (even better if you look on ebay) and there now is an official lineageos available for the Moto G7 river which apparently runs with no problem.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g7/development/rom-lineageos-16-0-t4004357/page2
Rooting is also easy with Twrp and Magisk.
Also, though I have not used it on this phone, edxposed is available (which includes Gravitybox making other ROMs redundant).
I have no experience with treble use.

[Request] MIUI Rom

I know, I know, this is a stupid question, but I'm a MIUI Lover( not the devices from Xiaomi, just the rom) and stable roms are just a month far from us, can't someone build MIUI for this device???
Pro's:
- Extremely stable( tested on 3 devices)
- Amazing ram management ( tested too)
-Beautiful stock wallpapers
Con's
- No stock android experience (not for me, I love its UI and I can live with it if I have a really fast and stable rom)
Disclaimer: Do not tell me to buy a xiaomi device if I want MIUI, I won't.
I support you
but no developer is working on this?
Miui rom is made by PatchRom. Which if different thing that on normal android development. It needs already clean android rom (aosp would be great) where you just replace things with miui

Yup.. I read on GitHub. I'm waiting for haky 86's AOSP 6.0, then I'll immediately start developing on the rom.
For now I will be realeasing AOKP(Android Open Kang Project) for P8Lite in a week, if I will successfully fix some bugs!

Porting MIUI
I know that it's possible to port MIUI ROM from different device with similar hardware.

Oh man, you don't know how much errors I had. I even stayed 11 hours and got an error after. I builded it successfully now, but I had to delete a lot of files from device's source code and I'm afraid that device will not boot, or even brick it.

For example Xiaomi Mi Max 650. It's Snapdragon. But one chenese developer has ported MIUI on Honor 6. This phone is on kirin octacore processor. I used it 2 years ago and used MIUI on it.

There is A HUGE difference between Kirin (what we have) and Snap, so it will not run on our device.
Still, I want to see the thread, if you can please.

Well, that's interesting. But Honor 6 has Kirin 920, we have 620, different screen resolutions, ram/ modems, etc. , so still this rom is not compatible for us.

I know that tutorial. But we don't have same hardware, same RIL chips, wifi modem, storage and same screen resolution. And I don't know any device with same hardware as this one, and what has MIUI to port it. When AOSP will release for this device. I will start working on MIUI
Good luck, man! I cross fingers for you!
I already download the micode..will do a quick test when back to home, I doubt that will boot..

Better ROM of all?

Hi there,
Which is best among
Pure Nexus
Lineage
Groundzero(Tesla Tipsy Validus)
Resurrection Remix
Viper OS
Xenon HD
Pls suggest . . . Thanks in Advance.
I apologize in advance if i sound rude, but first of all this thread is in wrong section. The section is for developmental purposes only. There are already a few threads out there which discusses on the ROMs.
Secondly, comparing the ROMs like this is sort of disrespectful to the respective devs. All of them put their best efforts to gives us the ROM on our "not-so-popular" phone.
You can go on a flashing spree and try all of them without complete setup and judge for yourself which one suits your needs.
As for me, i use Carbon ROM and i am very satisfied with it.

It's impossible to say which ROM is the best. It really all depends on what you are looking for. Resurrection Remix probably has the most features/customization options. Other ROMs on your list have much less features but have better performance. Best thing for you to do is to read about each ROM and flash them yourself to see which one best suits your needs.
IMHO no doubt: AICP. Lots of feature and customization, stability, daily update.

Guys i am learning to create ROMs for myself but right now my one is damaged(screen) and i cant test the ROM.
I just repo synced and built a rom from CyanogenMod sources.
Can someone just install the ROM and give me a screenshot of about phone screen?
I will try building sultan's cm13 using lineage sources after learning how to do that and will post some updates..
For now can someone do this for me?

You can contact @romilparh for help. He's pro at sultanizing ROMs.
Quick Update:
Currently i am syncing the data as i am typing the comment, i am trying to sultanize lineage13 rom to use it as a daily driver, many people were asking sultanxda if he can update his rom to latest security patches, but as he doesnt have time to support everything at once and manage personal life, i thought maybe i can do something..
So i am currently learning and building, so dont expect builds anytime soon..
Once I achieve this i will start doing the same for jgcaap cm13 ROM
Right now I dont even know if all this makes any sense also.
But if it does, then builds are coming in future
I will make dedicated threads once i start successful builds.
Need testers
Just had a successful build, need some testers if someone is willing to : https://t.me/joinchat/FvcFzkudOqJcLMIJWN0QRg
I'll test it. All works fine.
Thanks for make Updates for 6.0.1.

Most Stable 8.1 So Far?

Is there any custom ROM 8.1 that is stable enough to flash?
Most of them have the same issues , but i think RR is the most stable of them all. Just my opinion , tho.
For me? Cosmic OS (if I'll be able to figure out why localization indicator is visible constantly)
Tried a couple and RR along with crDroid (not found here but on android file host) were the most stable for me. I also flashed pepsy kernel wich is very stable too.

What is the best ROM to use in these days in TAB 2 P3100?

I want to know a good ROM withou random reboots and freezing while I use it... for things like Twitter, Youtube and browsers
I'm using the latest Slim 7, and andi34's anykernel with oc and uv, and the system is fluent. No problem with youtube ( somehow 60fps hd is not an option), office, and browsing the web. Not the fastest experience but it is useable. P3110*

I tried a lot of roms now, and settled with SlimLP because it is the most stable by far, gives also good at performancelevel and not like kitkat has the modern design.
Slim6 does give me app crashed
Slim7 runs really smooth and good, but has a weird bug where the performance can very each reboot. (this applies to all Nougat roms)
all other (Cyanogen, AOSP, ...) do not that well performancewise as the slim roms.
I'm running Slim 4.4... is it worth updating? lol
Netflix doesn't seem to work anymore on this.

well i suggest slimkat cuz it has nice performance with gapps unlike some other roms. If you dont want gapps i would suggest omni 6. Slimkat is just a bit snappier for me but since its kitkat its hard to use without gapps. I have yalp store and newpipe for slimkat.

in my testing i found that gapps work best on kitkat roms like slimkat. if you want to upgrade and want it to be snappy too i would sugges not flashing gapps. One of the roms that the most little with gapps is OrionOS for me.

Holo isnt that outdated especially with slimkats black theme. slimlp was the first rom i flashed on this tablet but after a few weeks it started lagging. Now im using slimkat with or without gapps and omni 6 with out gapps. OrionOS is pretty good too if you want material and smaller lag with gapps compared to most roms in my testing.
