Soft bricked my Mi9T by flashing Xiaomi EU 9.11.14. Need help! - Redmi K20 / Xiaomi Mi 9T Questions & Answers

Hello all,
So finally my waiting time was over and could unlock my bootloader, excited to flash xiaomi.eu 9.11.14 (I was on MIUI11 Global based on Android 9.)
I unlocked my phone straight away and followed this guide to install it: https://xiaomi.eu/community/threads/9-11-14.53327/
After unlocking I then booted into system to enable ADB debugging. Then flashed and booted into TWRP (version I used: twrp-3.3.1-3-davinci-mauronofrio.img). I wiped /data and cache. I selected the Xiaomi EU ROM and started flashing, flash went successful. Then booted into system. But then it got stuck at the "Redmi - powered by Xiaomi" splash screen and waited a bit thinking it would take a bit. Took over 10 min before I figured out I might've done something wrong. So booted back into recovery where a chinese TWRP popped up, managed to change language to English. Then tried flashing Xiaomi EU again, but my internal storage contained only folders of random numbers and characters (unreadable format) and the Xiaomi EU ROM wasn't there. I then tried moving the Xiaomi EU ROM from my PC to my phone again. Didn't work, can't transfer anything to internal storage although storage was mounted. Also my main internal storage name turned into Chinese characters. I thought of flashing the same TWRP I used earlier with fastboot but without success. Now my phone also can't boot into TWRP, only fastboot working.
Now I am downloading the Full fastboot ROM to hope to recover it back with the MiFlash tool. But I need help with fixing how to correctly flash Xiaomi EU. How could my flash not work? Did anyone had the same?

In TWRP you must Format Data and confirm with yes, wipe data is not enough.

That did the job. Thank you. Only now I have no signal, my phone is seeing the sim card tho because I had to enter Sim card Pin code. Do u can think of anything why this might happen?

going to try this now lets hope you are right as i have tried everything else and various combinations to get this booting...........
it didnt boot so starting to think this is fake rom. i tried clean flash on miui.eu rom then flashed stock gobal and clean flashed again. used this recovery and same results. it sits on boot screen with the dots flashing and nothing else happens...........how long did yours take to boot?

try it and if didnt boot here are my steps if i remember correctly :
-flash latest global developer fastboot rom with mi flash (flash all , be careful with locking bootloader accidentally )
-wait until first boot before phone setup and don't go through it
-reboot to fastboot mode and flash nijel twrp
-reboot directly to recovery
-wipe->factory reset
-flash 8.11.26 pie
-reboot system
Exatly as for me. Flashed with nigel TWRP, with format data before. Few issues but CN firmware... Google must be installed.
ok will do that now and report
i flashed latest global then tried to flash with that recovery but nothing.
i am now going to flash china dev latest and try again
---------- Post added at 07:31 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:24 PM ----------
so to be clear
i am gonna flash dev global 8.11.23 via fastboot
then wait for it to get to 1st set up screen but not go through the setup process
will then flash that twrp you mentioned via fastboot
and flash the rom after factory reset

i did exactly what you said again just to be sure
and it booted up with no problem
- mi flash->global 8.11.23 -> clean all
- first boot until welcome screen
- power off-> volume down+power -> fastboot and run "fastboot flash recovery nijeltwrp.img"
- volume up+power to boot to recovery
(so far if decryption goes well twrp shuold not request decryption password and you could mount data and see internal storage contents in /sdcard with no problem in twrp file manager)
- wipe->factory reset
- install pie zip rom 8.11.26
- wipe dalvik+cache
- reboot system
it took about 4 or 5 minutes for me to boot
If I've gone straight from the latest stock China ROM to xiaomi.eu 10.0.0.6.0 and have since flashed the latest nijel TWRP - which is all working fine.
Can I simply flash to this pie release or do I need to have previously flashed one of the developer ROMs?
Guys, quick conformation, please as I hear conflicting reports about MIUI Pie and my TWRP...
Please, from experience, decryption works, right? How about formatting data with TWRP and boot to Pie? Is MIUI Pie able to encrypt fresh data partition? And if yes is TWRP able to decrypt it again?
Thank you, feedback is really appreciated so I know what needs to be done for full Pie compatibility!!!

first thanks again for your great work on this recovery
decryption was good with oreo 8.11.15 china rom but right after pie rom boots and rebooting to recovery, decryption fails
from there rebooting to recovery again doesn't change anything ... recovery asks for decryption password every time.
and cuz data partition is not mounted so recovery log will not be saved to internal memory to attach it here
after formatting data miui boots successfully and encrypts data again.setting up the phone and rebooting to recovery ... but same thing happens and decryption fails.

Mi 9T Hard Brick After MIUI11 Test

I seem to have hard bricked my 9T after flashing the MIUI 11 rom from xiaomi.eu. I think culprit is a totally botched/corrupted boot loader and I have no idea how it happened. I've tried reflashing back to stock through stock image .bat files, but no dice. It flashed everything but the device still refuses to boot past the MI screen. If I try to boot into TWRP, my device gets stuck at the TWRP splash screen, no matter which version it is. Does anyone know what I can do or try at this point? Thanks.
So do I, first time I successfully instal first beta v25 miui 11, and than when the v26 comes, stupidly, i flash it from twrp, it tells me that i succeed installing that zip, and than i wipe art and cache and reboot system, but what next i know, my phone brick, i can not instal anyrom, from mi flash tool, or from anywhere. I did everything and still can not fix the problem.
Anyway, you still can enterin TWRP UI, after waiting about 10 to 30 minutes, because after intalling that rom, automatically your data format change from ext4 to f2fs, and twrp will need a lot of time to read your disk.
But, even after doing anything in twrp, still can not make my phone successfully boot into system.
And theres moun I/O error everytime i tried to wipe everything, or fix disk, or change disk format. Everything... and i just dont know what to do anymore.
So may be you can wait patiently until you can entering twrp ui, and please lemme know if you know how to fix this problem

Just the exact same problem as mine. If you know anything about how to solve this problem, please tell us.
I had the same problem with a miui 10 weekly beta but unfortunately I wasn't able to fix it but lucky me my phone was still in a return period so I returned it back to Amazon and got my money back since then I have always stayed away from beta ROMs . I tried everything but it wasn't booting pass the mi logo as you said

I flash boot.img, etc
Still no result.

This makes sense as I remember trying to boot into stock recovery early in the morning. I woke up and it finally booted, but the recovery was in Chinese. I will give 4PDA TWRP about an hour and see what I can do. Thanks.

After you used the Greek twrp did you manage to solve the problem?

Only booting into fastboot (repaired, solution found). I want to know the rootcause.

Hi all,
Since a couple of days I was able to unlock the bootloader on my Mi 9T Pro device. I managed to install TWRP recovery via fastboot and then the vendor, Lineage, other kernel, Magisk as zip via TWRP recovery.
It worked fine, until at one moment I rebooted and suddenly it started only the fastboot. No OS anymore, but also no recovery. Flashing TWRP again via fastboot worked, but recovery was not loading and it kept booting into fastmode.
I repaired it via the Xiaomi Flashtool, by flashing the Global rom again. System flashed, MIUI booted. After I could unlock bootloader again, flash recovery, and TWRP was also loading again.
Suddenly, I still don't know exactly why, it again started booting only to fastboot. Flashing the official ROM via the Xiaomi tool repaired the device again. Then I continued again with TWRP + vendor/LineageOS/Magisk/kernel. Works!
Now my device runs LineageOS 17.1, still has TWRP working, is rooted, has updated kernel and all seems fine. However I am scared that this strange "only booting to fastboot and needs complete wipe/reinstall by installing official Rom via Xiaomi tool" again. (It means, at any moment you will lose your whole device, setup, configuration, applications and data...)
Now I was wondering: can anyone explain me what is the rootcause for this "only booting to fastboot" bug?
Am I doing something wrong?
Is it perhaps caused by a kernel or magisk bug in the version I use?
Did I flash the wrong TWRP? (I tried official and some version for Mi 9T Pro found in this forums).
I don't see it yet, I hope someone knows what causes this issue. Then I know what to be careful for.
What causes this bug?
Thanks in advance!
***EDIT: Oops! I accidentally posted this in the Mi 9T forum instead of the Mi 9T Pro. Perhaps the issue and answer is the same, however perhaps a mod can move this to the Q&A subforum of the Mi 9T Pro? Sorry***
This usually happens if you wipe system and/or vendor partitions and then reboot (at least that's how I got this issue). For some reason if those are empty or invalid, the device gets stuck to fastboot and can't even boot to TWRP (neither directly or using fastboot boot).
To avoid that just never reboot (even reboot to recovery) right after wiping system/vendor, always make sure a ROM is installed first (or just don't wipe them since usually the ROMs take care of it before the install anyways).
Thank you!
Indeed, even TWRP did not load, exactly as you describe.
So that means for some reason the system or vendor partition got wiped or corrupted. Thanks, I will think why that might happened and where to be extra careful for.

Mi 9T only booting to TWRP

Hi! I just tried to install my first custom ROM, and I don't really think it worked...
Can someone please look through the steps I took and tell me exactly where I f-ed up and why I'm an idiot? Right now my phone shows the boot logo for a few seconds, and then boots right to TWRP.
Here is what I did:
1. I downloaded resurrection remix and magisk to my computer and transferred the .zips to my Mi 9T.
2. I booted to (the official) TWRP and made a backup. Now, here I know I really f-ed up, because I didn't save the backup on my computer, only on the phone... And I know exactly how stupid that is right now.
3. Anyways, I wiped the data and such according to instructions...
4. ...and installed first the ROM, then magisk.
5. When I tried to reboot it went into TWRP again, and the files looked like they were encrypted. I tried to restore the backup, but of course it was also encrypted.
6. Okay, a tiny bit of panic. Since I can't really do anything, I feel like the only option is to format the data (was that a bad idea? maybe, probably...)
7. I install the latest firmware for Europe and try to install the ROM again. (without magisk this time)
8. it boots (with the xiaomi boot logo) and then straight to TWRP.
9. The last thing I tried was installing xiaomi.eu, and this gave some progress. Now it has a new boot-logo (white Mi logo with mi.com under it. No "powered by android" text). It takes a bit longer to boot, but eventually goes back to TWRP.
I am so sorry if I'm stupid, but can someone please help me with this?
Edit: I solved it. Just had to format data and reboot.

Wipe is not the same as format - wiping is much less than formating
If Instructions say to Format, you had to FORMAT DATA (not to wipe)

mi 9t (global i think)tried installing custom rom wiped system partition now only fastboot works. now what?

hi!
i was in the middle of installing a new custom rom on my mi 9t/k20 (i think global/eu which was running miui 11 previously) and i wiped the partitions as follow: dalvik, cache, data and system
i believe that the only thing concerning on that list would be the system partition being wiped.
currently my device is stuck in fastboot mode (i can still send commands to it and do stuff) but i dont ave a recovery ...
so i have an idea of a plan which is:
1. flash twrp
2. wipe the 4 partitions again
3. reinstall the stock rom
4. update the phone to miui 12
5. wipe the partitions again
6. install custom rom twrp and magisk
is there anything i should know before i do this?
also some links to working twrp version would be nice (lost the original version that i had installed)

-When installing custom ROMs (changing ROM types), you have to F O R M A T Data (not Wipe) - it's totally different (stronger) and can be found elswhere in guides
-Wiping System is totally bogus: new ROM will nevertheless replace the System (no matter did you wipe it or not)
However, if you are changing from MIUI CN to Global or so - then totally different procedure applies.
It's not enough to flash the new System but also to change the Vendor.
For that case google for and read about using MIUI Flash

I don't really know what else you might have (possibly) mesed up. I have just updated the previous post so please read again the part about MIUI Flash
(If you were not changing from CN/EEA/Russia to Global or so but only installing a custom/AOSP ROM, then if you wiped Data instead of formatting - you would be bootlooping niw to TWRP and you would simply need to Format Data to fix it
But if you were really changing from eg CN to Global by just flashing System - that is TOTALLY WRONG way, why didn't you research how to do it properly by MIUI Flash?
In that case you could still try MIUI Flash, if not working you would need somebody with paid EDL support (I cannot help you for that)
Sorry, good night now

no i havent changed the region form the phone ... however my currently big problem is that im stuck in fastboot mode and i cannot enter recovery i could try and reflash recovery via fastboot but im not sure if that would break it even more. and since there is no OS on the devices either i cant use adb either. my last hope rn is fastboot and idk what to do rn to fix all this back to factory OS state or a similiar state
