Viper4Android Uninstall Messes Up Music. Help, please. - Samsung Galaxy S4 VE Questions & Answers

So, a while ago, I installed Viper4Android because I thought I would try my hand at making my earphones sound better. I eventually came to the conclusion that I didn't need it, and that my pair sounded just as good before installing it. After rebooting my device post-uninstall, I found that my whole music library sounded very different. String instruments sound far away and washed-out (almost like an echo), and that also applies to most background-vocals, and, for some songs, the chorus, too. After reinstalling it to see if it would go back to normal, which it didn't, I uninstalled it again. I even installed Sauron MKIII to see if it would make it sound better, and it only slightly helped. That might just be placebo, though, because I'm pretty desperate to fix it. I appreciate any suggestions or known fixes. Thank you.
Here's any information that I think may end up being important:
This affects my earbuds only. Speakers are fine.
This happened before I installed Sauron MKIII, so, that's definitely not the root of the issue.
I'm running Android 7 on my S4.
The version of Viper I had installed was the 2.5 Nougat fix.
Again, I appreciate any suggestions/solutions. I'm hoping that I don't need to factory-reset my phone, because it's going to be a pain to reinstall everything again. Thanks.

[Resolved] No Audio in calls

Ok I'm not a complete newb but I can't figure this out and its been driving me nuts for over a week now...
SGH-1337M (Rogers)
Up until last week I'd been running the nightly builds of CyanogenMod and loving it, the phone was fast had lots of functionality then I did a nightly upgrade and my phone stopped working. Incoming calls would ring but when I picked up the call I couldn't hear the caller and they couldn't hear me. After much frustration I ended up flashing back to stock. This fixed the problem but the phone was useless as far as I was concerned for everything but making phone calls. It was laggy, I couldn't listen to music (it was staticy) and just generally full of all of the extraneous crud that Rogers seemed to think I should have on my phone. (I honestly couldn't suggest the phone to anyone who was going to run it as a stock device if this was how it came out of the box!)
Now On Sunday I decided to try again and after setting everything back to defaults I reloaded Cyanogen and at first it seemed that things were working properly... until last night. Again I got a call and when I answered it there was no audio.
I can't figure it out, I'm running the correct radio now after flashing to stock (I337MVLUAMG1) but I just can't seem to get it to work and stay working. Besides Cyanogen I'm only running two other "root" apps Fantastic audio installer and AdAway.
Any suggestions would be great, I just can't go back to stock on this phone...
Any ideas?
I think I have the problem figured out...
Seems like it was a combination of a bad build of CM and the "Fantastic Audio Installer"
Beware of compatibility issues with apps like this...

earphone jack issue?

So, i was having some issues with the earphone i had bought recently, but having a few problems with the same brand sometimes earlier (microsoft really put up a really interesting choice with the low price and really good bass and sound quality for its pricing, but damn, those things had caused me two replacements in earlier models) i was considering taking it to the warranty and getting a new one, fine.
Then i got the moto earphone (had never used it, was in that plastic thingy yet) to get me through the day and i put the ms one in the bag, but when i started walking, the same problems appeared. The volume would get lower, sound getting distorted, and the song started to cut to the point it would recognize as if the headphone has been unplugged and i have to start the music again. i'm no expert but i think we've got some issues here son
I went to master google in search for answers and i've found that people have been having these kinds of issues since the first generation moto g, some even got a replacement and the jack would still come faulty, there were a major "consent" that the fault was the pocket lint inside, and cleaning it would solve the problem, but my phone doesn't have even two goddamn weeks, it didn't even had time to get dirty. (and i tried it cleaning, only a lil hair came out) I am currently listening to music, and it's perfect, when the phone stays still. If i start moving it around or mess with the connector, the issues come back again.
Does someone had this problem here too? found some solution besides the pocket lint thing? i didn't found any post here on xda related to that, and i really don't wanna send it ro warranty 'cause i need it really bad for my work, and i know it's gonna take some time in there, the problem can even come back...
Please, show me a light.
I have a problem where moving the headphone jack a small amount would stop music playback its so annoying. I mostly use Bluetooth headphones though.

Moving it also distorts the sound to the point it stops. Normally this happens with detective earphones, but the jack is new to me.
I'm sure it's the jack, I just got new headphones too. What you can do is expand that contact strip in the jack inward, hence better contact? I haven't done this yet though

yea, it is the jack indeed... are you facing this problem too?
i tried pulling it out a bit, but no results. Some random "solutions in the internet tell to put something behing that first metal contact strip... it that so?
So I kinda solved the problem these days... I bought a tpu case, and it has stopped. I guess that the phone is too slim, and it keeps banging in the pocket, making the jack loose and stopping the song. Now the phone is kinda bulky, fits right in the pocket, I can even run with it and the sound is still perfect. Sad that I gotta use this case, makes the phone Hella ugly, but yeah, I solved the problem
If anyone is facing it, try this, might work for you too.
Fixed my problem
I'd just like to add that I also suffered from this same issue (to the letter, volume decrease, distortion and all). It happened once a few weeks in but now, a few months later, it was happening so often that I had to give up using headphones.
Well, here's the thing: I contact Motorola and they give me the old crap about rebooting in safe mode and testing, or doing a factory reset.
As I KNOW this is a hardware issue, I just go ahead and reinstall the factory image (I was previously rooted) planning to send it in for repair/replacement: low and behold: it's fixed. So installing the original firmware and going through the setup (but choosing not to reinstall all my apps -new device option) fixed the problem. I have no idea how this can be. Maybe an app made the phone react too much to slight disturbances in the connection? When I have time, I'll be restoring my backup to see if the problem comes back, and uninstall apps one by one (starting with the xposed modules and other root apps).
I've been using the headphones a lot in the past 5 days with absolutely no issues.
tl:dr OP's exact problem, what seemed like a hardware fault, was fixed by a factory reset.

Now that was unexpected lol. Anyways, thanks for the reply, i've seen much of this kinds of problems on the internet, but none of it came to a conclusion, the posts die after sometime. I hope someone finds the answer in your reply.
So, i bricked my phone sometime ago and installed the factory image. i've been using the tpu case since it came, as i stated before, it has solved my problems (i think mainly because the phone get bulkier, fits into the jeans pocket and stop moving, so the jack isn't affected by any kind of movement and it works perfectly), but after you said that i recalled, there was one day when i forgot the case at home, and unaware of that i went working with the headphone and it worked perfectly, i just noticed i had forgot the case in my way home. I'll do some further testing without the case, but your solution might just have hit the right spot.

Did you, by any chance, have GravityBox installed on your phone when it was playing up? Also/or, where you using an unmodified ROM, as that's what I'm using usually (deodexed but stock) I've just restored my backup (that's rooted and has a few xposed modules on) and sure enough first time I touch the jack with music playing, it plays up (this time it triggered the voice command, which it did do some times). So I think to start by disabling GravityBox as that modifies a lot of stuff... Reboot, and the damn thing seems to work perfectly, I'm tugging and pulling at the jack right now and it's working perfectly.
I find it a bit too much to believe, and I don't want to lose GravityBox as that's a big reason I root.
One explanation I can come up with is that Motorola saw there was a problem and they fixed it in software, and installing AOSP or GravityBox that changes system files, gets rid of that software "fix".

Well, try to trigger the problem a couple of times with gravity box installed. I don't have it, installed xposed once and had major lag, stuttering and FC problems, then i took the ting off. Didn't test the jack thing, but i've never been a hard xposed user.
I really think my problem is hardware-related, but tonight i'll head home without the case and report back here.
If I am on a stock Moto ROM, I have the problem. When I moved to AOSP/CM based ROM's, I can manipulate my headphones without causing it to stop.. I think maybe the stock kernel is a bit too sensitive and stops it with just a little bit of disconnection vs a more lax implementation in AOSP/CM...
So I've ran my tests: climbed stairs, climbed down stairs, run a Lil bit, shake my hips (they don't lie) and messed around my pocket: no sign of Jack problems. I guess that flashing stock firmware again did the job, as you have stated earlier. I'm going to stop using the case and go jogging, or going more often to work listening to music without it, but after today field tests, I'm sure the issue is gone.

Just an update: I give up. I've tried multiple things, including almost bricking my device. I cannot find something definite at all. Installing a clean factory image (or a rom that has not been changed much) will get rid of the problem, even with root. However after restoring my TitaniumBackup of about 140 apps, the problem came back for a while. I noticed it after enabling MotoVoice, so I disabled moto voice and it disappeared, but then re-enabling moto voice didn't make the problem come back... And that is why I give up. I've ordered a pair of Bluetooth headphones.
I think that flashing the stock firmware again is the ultimate solution to solve the problem. After some tests I really couldn't trigger it again, so I guess that's the end of it
The problem is that the issue is so random I can't seem to find a proper way to trigger or to say it is 100% solved. I've read about it happening since the first generation moto g, seems like a hardware issue, but...
My headphone jack wont work properly when i insert the headphones into the jack completely but it works fine when i pull out a lil of the pin of headphones out of the headphone jack whats the deal its too annoying

Help installing Viper4Android?

Had this phone for a few months and let me say I love it, but it gives me a major headache with all the hassle it gives me as far as things that come after rooting and things like Viper4Android. Never had so many problems in the past with things like this.
I can't for the life of me get this to work and was hoping that someone here on the forums can help me. Seeing as I'm in the military right now my schedule is kinda hectic.
So I installed busybox, and I am rooted. At the time I rooted there was just systemless root which is a pain in my ass.
When I open the apk it asks if I wish to install the drivers, and I click yes and it hangs for a second or two then quickly says it's installed when I know it's not. Im almost positive its suppose to ask which driver I want to install but it doesn't? What am I doing wrong here or how can I fix it? Also trying to use the app provided from XDA to change my selinux or w.e doesnt work either. Says it cannot get access to root from my super user manager which I find strange because everything else works.
Thanks for any help you guys can assist with!
This thread should give you all the answers you need for installing V4A.

ViPER install is a bit janky on the MXP for some reason, the only method in which I have gotten it to properly install is this one, written specifically for the MXP rather than the one above:

Be aware though that the libfiles .zip seems to be the culprit of some random, temporary bootloops that can be solved by simply hard rebooting again. I've tried to find a fix for this but sometimes it happens less often than others, and seems to be only an occasional occurrence.
Been testing Orion rom and it's very smooth and stable and... comes with viper.
Is there any alternative I can use? I don't want to go through some annoying bootloops and prefer to stay on my stock ROM. I'm mainly wanting this so i can be able to use an equalizer over Bluetooth with my Bluetooth earbuds. Anybody know any good alternatives? Thanks for the quick replies. You guys are awesome
That's funny the only boot loops I've had is on stock.
Do you know of any alternatives or a way I can get my stock equalizer to work over bluetooth?

h918 Audio mods on Bluetooth issue (dolby or Viper4Android)

I can't seem to make audio mods to work with bluetooth, by work i mean have an effect on the output. If i restart my phone viper will say its processing but stops after a little while. I can't seem to figure it out and i feel like its just me lol.
my specs:
*android 7.0
*h91810q
*rooted with super su
*twrp 3.0.2-1
I don't have anything custom installed yet just viper. Anyone know what it could be?

WETA has an app called blureset in his ROM that can successfully activate processing by faking a phone call or something. That's what I've been using ever since I've gotten the phone. You don't need to use his room to be able to use it either
I actually have it set up so the smart settings activates it upon connecting to my car stereo so it does it by itself. Kinda handy

Some people have reported never having to use this tool in the ARISE thread. I've lucked out on a few different configs and setups for a little while but I always end up having to reset the phone to get it to process again but with the blureset it's rock solid up until you disconnect from the device. Everytime you reconnect you will have to activate the blureset again.
Pretty sure we're has just the APK by itself in AFH folder somewhere I'll try to find it for ya that way you won't have to download the whole ROM just to get it.

Ya now that you mention it, I was in a forum about dolby and they said something like arise had a setting when changed fixes the issue.. I just can't for the life of me find it again.
i downloaded weta's Blureset.apk and it does make dolby work. I just wish someone could trace what is causing the problem but, a band-aid is better than nothing.
Just as quickly as it worked now has permanently stopped working even with Blureset. I found this frustrating so i removed all audio mods. Also, final thought ARISE is a battery killer so i wouldn't recommend it. Thanks for the help tho!

ARISE works great for me but I don't have every single module installed. There is a bit of trial and error involved finding out what works and what doesn't. AM3D doesn't work on nougat so if you installed it there was a glitch that made it just sit there and auto restart trying to run but it couldn't. With ARISE ingot away with just flashing the core module, Viper, Atmos and DIRAC.
Theres a viper package thread by the creator of NATF MEGArom that I have installed right now and it has worked flawlessly ever since (cept for the Bluetooth having to use the blureset thing). Let me find the link
[[[[EDIT]]]]] Here it is: https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/themes/17-feb-2017-viper4android-2-5-0-5-t3558359
If you want Atmos or Dolby I got it from Ahrions thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/soundmod-axon-7-dolby-atmos-t3412342
And I'm using the axon 7 Atmos version
Hey that actually works!
Install note
install the Viper Nougat by natf
THEN Dolby Axon.
Wipe cache then reset.
Using blureset works to restore bluetooth audio processing ....for now lol
Issue is also Magisk. If you use SuperSU, seems as if the problems go away.

Resolving Sound Issue with Custom ROM/flashing, Urgent!

Hi,
the problem first appeared after this ****ing oreo update, i hate lenovo/motorola for this idea. Sound call is not loud enough and changes. I am 100% sure its something with the ROM update/Software issue, not hardware.
100%.
So i tried my first custom ROM, i opened bootloader etc. pp. and it works, alltough device is unknown while booting (n/a), but ok- lineage and other roms works with some failure, e.g. google play compatibility of some apps ...
now i have this stupid oreo flash again, this adjusted one i think, i dont know. You said, i had to install it. I am not familiar with the correct name, but it seems correct.
no matter what i do, i have to INSTALL LESSER AUDIO , you know this app. you can change audio output from speaker to headset. and i allways have to switch the standard (Wrong) configuration , otherwise i can not phone.
system sounds works, but media and call is not working. After switching to speaker, sound is working, but it is still not LOUD enough. You get it?
Why is it, what is you thought and idea to it?
There must be a solution for it, and i guess you cannot solve it by flashing customs, but by adjusting this ****ing oreo in the first place or what so ever.
So the main problem is sound is soo quiet <---- THAT IS SO ****ING ... you need to change, i dont need an elegant solution. Just fix it, no matter what.
Please help .
Thanks A lot. David
