Note 4 super bright mode?

Hey guys, can someone else with the samsung note 4 exynos model try their phone in direct sunlight on auto brightness and tell me if the screen kicks into a super bright mode with high contrast and strange colours? You have to be in direct sunlight with auto brightness turned up. I'm getting paranoid about this and not sure whether to swap mine. I know samsung have just added assertive displays to the exynos models and possibly now snapdragon but not sure if this is whats going on.. it almost makes some colours look fluro.

Hope they get rid of this feature soon then.. it triggers so easily.

Glad im not the only one then.. do your colours kind of go fluro?

Hmm just took my samsung tab s outside in bright light and it did the same must just be much more pronounced on the qhd display

At first I didn't like it, comes it makes the phone look all weird, but after a while I've really come to like it, especially when driving, I've reliazed, never once was it hard to view the display. Which IMO is awesome! I've never had a smartphone I could always accurately see the screen, in every type of light

I do outdoor hiking and I use the phone for navigation and taking photos. You do have to set the auto brightness to On for it to boost the screen brightness but it triggers after u turn on the phone screen instead if consistently. Battery is not an issue because I carry spare batteries
Anyway to keep the screen on at its Max brightness consistently? II don't care about color distortions either as long as I can see things!

I hope they don't, I want to be able to see my screen under sunlight.
Maybe tweak the levels a bit so that it doesn't activate until absolutely necessary, but removing it completely? Why? So people can start threads about how they can't see their screen outdoors?

Yea, I would assume that this is a feature that allows the screen to be more visible is direct sunlight.

I think it might be a defect, it only happens some times. I would love to hear from other people tho.

It could be the screen mode. Under display settings > screen mode > try basic instead of adaptive

Interesting, the colors seem more washed out on basic.

Basic is meant for artists that needed accurate color reproduction. The next two increase color saturation and contrast, and adaptive is meant to be used in full submit bright days. Ththe color suffers, but you can see the screen much better.

Mine does it to, I think it is a feature. It goes back to normal when out of extreme light

It is known feature. It raises brightnes almost twice of nominal in direct sunlight when auto brightnes is checked.

Display issues

Hello guys, suddenly I'm having display issues on my k20. I've attached a link to the video, when i pull down the notification bar, look how the blacks are loading a bit late. When i turn off dark mode, i see no issues like this, it's just the beautiful display again. Even i had same issues with my dark wallpaper. Please check, if you've same issues. I'm really concerned about it. Also, this maybe screen flickering but when i increased brightness, the issue didn't disappear, it was still persistent but at lower levels.

That's normal behavior for amoled displays.

1st: If this is the display problem, how can you expect we can see this on a screen capture??
2nd (probably because of the 1st): I can't see anything wrong.
3rd: I have no display issues at all.

Can't you see that voilet-ish colour instead of black when I'm swiftly moving the notification bar? It's clearly visible in video, you might want to check again.

Nope, watched it at least 5 times, on my PC and my 9T. Can't see anything peculiar.

I can not see anything wrong or violet at all. Am playing this on my computer at 1080 resolution and 0.25 playback speed and there is nothing to see.
If your screen is faulty, we are not able to see it on video you have shared with us of course

Edit: Guys can you try doing the same and look if the issue is persistent in your screen too?! It would really be helpful for me.

It's normal for OLED panels, some are better, some worse. My phone has it too. No need to go to the service center.

I too have it brother. Dark mode has it normal mode doesn't. It can also be noticed if you open youtube and scroll back and forth quickly. The blacks seem to be spilling or streching. I saw that on your video and I don't know if it is normal or not but i too have that and wanted to ask someone about that.

People are claiming this to be normal, but after searching a lot i got to know these kind of issues come after 1-2years, not in a week or month. So I'm trying my best to replace my device or get the screen changed. I don't understand why Xiaomi is keeping the colours to pure blacks when they know their displays are facing smearing issues. I hope someone just changes that pure black colour to very dark grey colour, system widely. Some developer tested(on OP7 pro) the battery consumption difference with pure black and dark grey and it turned out that, dark grey consumes only 0.067% more power than dark inky blacks. I'm humbly requesting developers to change the colour, or at least have an option for the same.

It's normal for Amoled screens (from first day of use). Just search for Amoled black smearing and you'll find a lot of videos and articles. S10 has it, iPhones have it too.

I have faint vertical lines on the right of the display when the brightness is low which is how I normally use it. I also have black smearing on pitch black to dark color transition. I think thats normal, it doesn't really bother me all that much.

The best way to reproduce this issue is turn off brightness to minimum and turn on reading mode to max. Then you'll see delay of displaying some colors (mostly gray)

Interestingly when i record this from screen recorder,it doesn't show up much but the same can be seen visually. So, this is definitely an issue that redmi is trying to let go.

As you "record from screen recorder" you do not record from the screen as you may like to think. You capture the video signal BEFORE it gets to the screen. So any imperfections caused by the amoled screen do not show up on a screen capture.
Anyway, this is a normal weakness with all amoled screens that I have seen.

It is soooo annoying when in dark mode at low brightness, I feel like I couldn't stand it anymore. The worst experience of display usage ever.
Maybe with DC dimming update that might happen someday, the issue won't be as intrusive and pronounce as it is right now. But whenn???
UPDATE:
So I found a workaround for this issue with an app. It's called Screen Balance. Basically it adds a filter overlay on your screen (ineffective on notification panel, because android restriction). Set it to either flourescent or flourescent (warm) at 15% strength minimum, and both brightness and contrast at 100%. You won't see perfect black anymore, but very close to that and no smearing effects visible unless you're really trying to.

I've bought Mi 9T Pro and have the same issue (also see it in your video). Did you fixed that?

Any way to increase brightness?

Samsung throttles the brightness when outside. It may save battery, but it makes the screen hard to see for my 50 years old eyes. On my other phone I can just turn up the brightness, but not on the Samsung. This means that I cant use my S10+ outside without reading glasses, so useless when out walking and the Samsung will have to stay at home.
Only help I have found, is an app called “High Brightness Mode”, but the difference is very small. And the Performance mode with 10% brightness increase, of course.

Maybe you don't have auto brightness on because when it detects sunlight it bumps up the brightness a lot imo, or idk maybe you have either a defective unit or defective eyesight because mine gets plenty bright when outside.

I do have autobrightness on. But it only works in direct sunlight. If the sensor is in shade, the screen gets dim, even if all surroundings are lit by sunlight. Try moving your device in/out of sunlight and you will see, that it almost doubles the brightness when sensor sees the sun. That is the brightness I want access to.

Yeah, I don't think we can access that brightness level indoors (not manually anyways), and maybe it's because at those brightness levels (1000+ nits) the screen could suffer from premature burn. Probably that's why.

Should still be the choice of the owner, not Samsung. I dont think any other brand makes screens this dark... But thx for your input.

You need to make sure your display mode is Vivid and not natural. VIVID mode allows the phone to get sunlight readable when auto brightness is turned on. Hope that helps.

Have you actually tested this? I know this is a year later but natural boosts just like vivid, i dont see any reason why would it be different ever

Samsung let YouTube has the colorful mode but other app can't, this's rather very stupid

Yes, and it's actually not bothering me at all.
May be this is because of that blue light reduction in display.

Yeah. The 7T has a sort of 'built in' blue light reductioner. Fiddling with the settings should quickly clear it up

Yeah ofc.
Go to Settings/Display/Screen Calibration;
Then pick 'Advanced' and choose one of the three. I chose 'Amoled Wide Gamut'
To remove the 'yellowish', go fiddle with the "Cold/Warm" bar. The colder you chose the less yellowish

Yes currently on that setting, still i feel the color accuracy iss off, a little more saturation and terrible gamma

The new update has even woresend the color accuracy in amoled mode, anyone else facing the same?

Do you have DC dimming on?

For those of you that have noticed the green tint, what is the best way to detect this? I have seen some posts in other forms, essentially I have had the phone for a day and I haven't seen any issues with the screen on dark mode or dim settings, just wanted to know what to look for in case of issues in 15 day return window

Open an incognito chrome tab and move to a dark room, the brightness slider has to be around 1/3 or less.

Color is perfect. I am not going out of my way to try to find problems.

I don't have any tint issues, but the colors seem a bit washed for an amoled. I prefer the screen on my OP5 better.

The green tint is a thing it all over forums of the oneplus community it seems like a panel defect and it is visible with night mode on grey or dark backgrounds you will notice it when you pull the notification shades down or just staring at the grey background its a greenish tint top and bottom part for me and in the center it kind of redish some other people have it just in the bottom some all over , i didnt notice it initially until later after two weeks of having the device dc dimming doesnt really work it helps a bit. oneplus representatives know about the issue and have said its normal which is not, its bad calibration of b grade panels from samsung a guess thats causing this mura effect or just plain defective panels it is a shame since this is my first oneplus device i read so much about it and was debating between the p30 pro and this one since i had a mate 10pro which never gave me any issues but well it is what it is and now ill just have to get use to it. bitter sweet opt7t

I wonder if this 'tint' issue is isolated to specific model / models? I have 2 HD1900 and whilst this is one time I am happy to be colour blind (not B&W type but cannot tell certain colours apart...) my other half is spot on on colours and has not noticed any of this...
