use older pixel device for unlimited backup of pixel 4 photos & videos - Google Pixel 4 Questions & Answers

:cyclops:
Ok so what I want to achieve is a way to use my previous pixel device that still has unlimited and unmetered full quality back ups for photos.
Is there a simple way to sync specific folders from my pixel 4 to a pixel 3/2 device, preferably using NFC or wifi direct (for fastest possible transfer speeds)
Data usage incurred by transferring the pixel 4's media files to older pixel is not a problem for me.
Extra info that may come into play
I have both devices within 5 metres of each other and the older devices is connected to the pixel 4's hotspot whenever wifi internet is unavailable. And if it is they are connected to the same network.
All accounts on both devices are logged into the same user.
Same Google account logged into both.

Sh*t - 6GB Data transfer??

Hi,
my mobile service provider sent me a bill, wich contains 6GB data transfer (and I have no flat-rate). I'm 100% shure, that I didn't caused that data traffic.
Are there log-files for data transfers at the Touch HD device? I used the "standard" ROM with no traffic manager installed.
Thanks for you help.
Regards
hqqh
hi, as far as i am aware, there is no inbuilt logs of data transfer
but 6GB?!?!?!?!? what on earth have you been doing with your device? using it as a modem for a desktop pc???? downloading loads of video on it?
i thought i was pretty having at surfing, emailing (no attachments thats just silly) etc etc and i dont get through my allowance of 500MB per month
seems an awful lot of data transfer, if you are not sure you've used this up, then i would challenge your service provider
an idea of data usage is here:
http://online.vodafone.co.uk/dispat...fpb=true&_pageLabel=template09&pageID=MB_0005
but also consider that this is a 3g usb stick for a full size pc, the data usage on a pda should be considerably less for the same sort of usage as you are less likely to have such big files going back and forth
i used that to guestimate that to use 6gb you must have.....
surfed for 5 hours daily, sent 30 emails daily, downloaded 100 mp3 each month, downloaded 50 high res pics each month and downloaded 4 movies each month
that or youve been watching shed loads of streaming porn!
seriously, its not unknown for service providers to get their data billing wrong.....
just a thought, you havent got it setup as a mobile hotspot or something?
Sh*t - 6GB Data transfer?? Reply to Thread
Hi,
thanks for you answer.
I don't use the HD as modem or mobile internet device. Only if I have a wlan connection, I check my emails or some news pages!
This 6GB download should be taken place at one day according to the bill. If you take the theoretical download speed of 7,2MBit/sec this should have taken about 2 hours. But I this under real conditions a bandwidth of 7,2MBit/sec * 0,5 or 0,3 --> I should have downloaded or streamed 5 - 7 hours.
So my plan is to do not pay for these 6GB (580€) and then the moblie service provider has to check the technical equipment. Hopefully there is an error .
Does someone has experience with not correct bills?
Regards
hqqh
i had an incorrect bill, hence my reply
i told them what you are saying basically... that i could not have shifted that much data overnight while i was asleep (i cant remember how much it was now, several hundred MB i think.... which while possible i knew i did not do due to the times the data was transferred.... that was with the HTC Charmer which didnt havent wifi so couldnt have been hacked over wifi somehow (bluetooth was permantly off and unless you were stood outside my front door, you would connect via BT anyway)
they didnt argue and credited my bill
as you are talking about 580euros, then persoanlly i would put a block on the direct debit or however you pay your bill to make sure they dont take the payment then challenge them... this action could mean you breach your contract though
what ever you do dont just not pay them and wait for them to contact you... i would ring your service provider now if i was you
I do a lot of browsing and I often watch a few YouTube videos each month and I've never really gone over 1GB, so something very strange must have happened for that much data to have been used, especially if you don't even browse the web or anything.
Can they deliver to you a detailed bill with when you have downloaded these 6gb.
I use internet access alot, and I reach my 5OOmb limit only one month over 12. It was when I have used alot poping email with big attached files.
You said you that you sometimes alless the net on wifi. But are you sure that you are using only wifi and not gprs.
The best solution for you for the future is to deactivate gprs data access. You will find tools to do it like HDTweak or others.

Mobile photography

I'm trying to set up my Samsung Galaxy S2 phone plus my Nexus 7 tablet so that I can copy the photos I've taken during the day with the S2 onto the N7 and process them on the tablet prior to uploading them to various online services.
I tried copying 58 files via Bluetooth today using ES File Manager. It took about an hour and a half and used a fair portion of my batteries. It didn't leave a lot of time for actually doing any processing.
In a place where public WiFi was accessible, albeit slow, I tried using AirDroid but the AP wouldn't let me log on twice using the same user name on two separate devices and, if it had, I doubt that it would allow peer-to-peer software for obvious security reasons.
I could upload the 58 files to Dropbox or Google Drive but that would involve twice the data transfer and the public WiFi seems to be even slower than Bluetooth. That many files would also hit my phone's data allowance pretty hard.
The Galaxy S2 can take a USB-OTG cable so I could transfer the
photos onto, say, an SD card. But to copy them onto the tablet I'd have to root it to get USB-OTG working. And that would mean wiping my apps and data.
I'll root the N7 eventually but, in the mean time, does anyone have an alternative solution that's relatively inexpensive? By which I mean not, for example, having to shell out for, and carry around, a wireless drive.

Hey Garry! ...I'm one of your Flickr contacts (Michael). I picked up a Nexus 7 this Friday, and intend to use it with my HTC One X phone. I will be experimenting with this too, and will let you know if I find anything. I tried Photo Transfer App, but it locked up after 15 photos, and that was on a really good wifi network. So far, Dropbox is my best option.
Hi, Michael
The problem with Dropbox is that you have to upload the photos then download them again, which would eat heavily into my data plan, not to mention the time it would take.
Someone mentioned an app called Bump which I'm going to try out but I expect it will be as slow as using Bluetooth.
Whatever I find, I'll post back here.

The other apps I'll be looking at when I get time are Nexus Photo viewer and Nexus Media Importer, both of which are being developed by an XDA from member. Hmmm... when I get time...

My current set up is with +google instant upload. Photos taken are uploaded on the fly to my picasa account. I have an all you can eat data plan so I'm not that worried about usage however I generally have this set to wifi only. I find any time I want to mess around with my pics they will be there on the N7.
I never really have a need to edit something immediately.
I do have a problem trying to find files I've edited on my phone as they don't sync to the tablet.

Att unlimited plan tethering

So, i hope this is an appropriate forum...
I have an att sim for a unlimited plan (tie in to DTV).
Of course they do not allow tethering (usb or hotspot). Now i was not using that particular number so i popped the sim into a Samsung Galaxy (sgh I897).
This is a 3g phone.
I, on a whim, turned on the mobile Hotspot (settings, wifi, mobile ap).
I have been using it for a week to get network on a windows 7 desktop pc.
Email, google docs, watching youtube, editing websites, watching The CW, watching Syfy.
No complaint from at&t.
I wonder if it is because the phone is old and reports in a way that is no longer monitored or maybe because it is 3g and they are not so concerned about that spectrum...
Do you all think it is a matter of time till they figure it out or did I find a loophole?
Sent from my LG-H900 using XDA-Developers mobile app
You found a loophole there is no way they will be able to see what you used your data on, that would break there privacy policy.

I tethered like this for years ... probably 10 years or so.
I only got a letter from AT&T this month.
I am wondering whether it has something to do with my new phone/new version of android (HTC One M9 running AOSP Candysix).
I always just tethered with the built in Bluetooth tethering.
As far as I can tell there are only two ways for them to tell:
1. Read the data, specifically headers, which would tell that the traffic is coming from a PC; this should/would be solvable by using a VPN
2. The OS passes on some kind of flag to the carrier. I read that old versions of android would use a separate APN/virtual device for tethering but I can't find this info on my phone (IP rules show, etc.)
any help would be greatly appreciated.

Need Help With Hacker / Malware Removal!!!

I have had a malware/hacker problem with my home computers, network and mobile phones for approximately 18 months. I am hoping that someone with your team will be able to help diagnose and assist in permanently removing the issue as I have not had any success with help from others to date. The malware seems to persist across factory resets and/or firmware flashs. Device details are listed below, at the end of this post.
The phones will randomly download/upload personal content, i.e. files and folders, to cloud accounts and other devices, randomly open and close applications, alter or corrupt files that have been downloaded to the phone, change file location on the devices, alter permissions, block or change root status (if rooted), deny un-root, disallow applications to be installed, removed or function correctly, hijack the wireless/blue-tooth and mobile data capabilities, eavesdrop on phone conversations and access the devices camera and microphone, communicate with other devices, possibly controlling them to a certain extent..
Similar problems exist with the personal computers. Mobile data usage has increased from 5G per month to well over 50G, reaching as much as 100G in a months time. I was forced to change plans with my internet service provider to accommodate data usage of 600G a month from the 300G plan I was on originally, where I only used 1/3 of that or less per month. Lastly, my identity has been stolen multiple times over the 18 month period I have had this problem. I am concerned the infection resides at the hardware level but I do not know how to confirm if that is possible with Android devices and don't want to purchase anymore new device as I have previously tried with 6 desktops, 4 laptops, 5 smartphones, 5 routers and 4 modems.
I have reached out to the local authorities, computers repair shops and worked with some of the top names in the anti-malware industry, only to be either turned away with disbelief or the lack of capability to do something to resolve the problem. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Sounds like the easiest solution is to take a hammer to everything and start fresh.

Getting Visible Wireless to work on OnePlus 6T?

Hello I have a OnePlus 6T and I would like to be able to use it for Visible Wireless as it would be a good plan for $25 dollars a month for Unlimited 5mbps hotspot which I want to use for my car's dashcam (leaving it in the glovebox with a charger connected. I basically have the OnePlus 6T setup where it is running the latest version of LineageOS which is way faster than OxygenOS and I have root so I have it setup so the battery will only charge up to 80% to keep the battery in good shape. I read a few threads on some succeeding with Data working by messing with the APN settings. I would like to at least have Data working so hotspot works but if phone and sms works as well, that will be a bonus. I've tried to put it into the Visible Website to get a sim but obviously doesn't work even though the device supports Verizon. I have an 8 Pro which I will use for the device verification to get a sim. Thanks and have a wonderful day.
