Is flashing Orange Fox and then the stock recovery for the OTAs a good idea? - Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Questions & Answers

I just returned to MIUI through Mi Flash (long story short, tried uninstalling the stock Camera app on Pixel Experience 10 and my phone got bricked and it was a hell of a ride to get my phone back up and running) and I lost the Orange Fox recovery that I originally had as a result. The thing is, I am wanting to get it back but still get the OTAs from Xiaomi. I saw somewhere that you had to flash the stock recovery if you wanted to get the OTAs installed, otherwise the OTA wouldn't install. But I am a bit concerned thanks to OF's installation process, and I am fearing of any consequences due to an inappropiate flash of the stock recovery and residual files from OF. So here goes my question: Is it safe to do so? Thanks in advance.

You can get ota.. But if there a ota avaible Klick in Updater "download latest full Rom".

What if I don't want to do that? Not everyone has lots of bandwidth at their disposal.

Download ota but flash direct in orangenfox

How can I do that?

[REQ] TPT Stock Rom with Bloatware Removed

I know a second root exploit was just achieved so I am sorta rushing things here but for now would it be possible to get a stock based rom with all the bloatware removed? Until the CM9 port gets all ironed out I bet it would be a popular rom.
I would wish for a CWR flashable de-bloated rom too.
Unfortunately it doesn't look like we have much interest in something like this. Coming from multiple different devices you usually see a stock debloated Rom but I don't think there is many Devs using this device. Guess I will give the CM9 port a go.
just root and uninstall bloatware... no need for dev

If you to do so, is TPT OTA upgradable still?
Gesendet von meinem LT18i mit Tapatalk 2
if you can, do a factory reset from Settings and when Google is done with the 'new user' questions you can use a pin to press the button (next to Sd card slot) to shut down the Tablet before the Lenovo bloatware begins it's install. Then you've got all mandatory programs installed without the 'optional bloatware. You can OTA update without issue.
Just remember to save documents on external SD before the Reset...

[Q] Clarification on New JB update please!

Hi All,
I had a question and was wondering if you guys can help. I have read all of these threads regarding the new JB update but am still not clear on many things. Maybe I'm a bit slow at picking up some of the Acronyms and lingo. My friends and I all have the Nexus 7 and we're debating whether or not to update to the new 4.1.2 JB. The reason we're hesitating is because of the following (Any answers to these questions will be GREATLY appreciated):
1. Nexus 7 has Boot Loader unlocked and rooted with 4.1.1.... Can we do an OTA update? If so, will it lock the Boot Loader and Un-Root?
2. If the the Boot Loader does get locked and un-rooted, How do I go about redoing the unlocking and rooting? I remember using the Nexus toolkit ,and have read that some people have used it on the forum, but it seems like a lot of people have Nexus 7s with aftermarket Kernals and/or Rom.
3. In any event where we don't want to update the Nexus 7 to the 4.1.2 update, is there a pro/con to this? Can I disable the pop-up message that keeps asking me to update.
Again, any answers will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

If you have rooted, you usually have a custom recovery, meaning you cannot recieve OTA updates. You will have to do it manually using ADB commands, which is easy and theres a tutorial for it on XDA so have a look at it, I did the manual method and kept root etc, so no change to my device just an update.
No the bootloader will stay locked if you do it manually anyway, AND YOU KEEP ROOT!.
There are quite a few unlocked/rooted folks who didn't install a custom recovery. If the OP is one of them, he can receive and install the update without any problems(unless he changed the build prop.) Kevion, if you have a custom recovery installed, just download the update, put it on your device, and install zip from recovery.

Thanks guys! Will I be able to keep my unlocked bootloader? Please advise. Thanks!
*EDIT*
I went ahead and downloaded Voodoo OTA Root Keeper
Downloaded Clockwork Mod (I'm using Teamwin's Recovery)
Backed up root with Voodoo OTA Root Keeper
Rebooted to recovery from Clockwork Mod
Flashed OTA update manually
System updated, restored Root access in Voodoo OTA Root Keeper
waited for the system to load
Rebooted again.
Seems like the Root was restored and the device is still unlocked. Thanks for all your help!
*EDIT 2*
Seems like the File Managers I have keep Force Closing. Same with the Booster (Ram booster) app. Any ideas why? Please advise! Thanks again guys!

I would try reinstalling those apps to get them to stop force closing.
Hi iam in the same situation and think about update.what holds me back is the bootliader.I read to get some new features from 4.1.2 like better power savings etc you need the new boot loader.so does it make sense to update and keep the old unlocked boot loader?

I would just run the update. Whether you flash it via recovery or let it happen naturally through google download, some peeps have had problems with the 3.41 bootloader, but not many I don't think. Just give it a shot, and if you end up having problems there are work arounds.

I don't know about that but so far, no noticeable problems with the new update to 4.1.2. I really don't know whats new with the new version of the Bootloader but If I find something, I'll update this thread.

Was tempted to flash the N8000 & fix, too. But then I said myself just to wait until Christmas. And now I got it on an normal, poor and grey Tuesday morning, when I did expect it the less.
First Impression: All the Butter works and Premium Suite looks just fine.
Good look all others.

Yes thanks here are more details
Today Samsung updated their Galaxy Note 10.1 Wi-Fi to Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean.
The update is only available in Germany at the moment and downloadable through samfirmware.com
If you have the Galaxy Note 10.1 Wi-Fi in Germany you will receive a OTA update of 300MB
Samsung introduced the Galaxy Note 10.1 at MWC 2012 in Barcelona the Galaxy Note 10.1 uses a 10.1” screen with a quad-core CPU and a 5 megapixel Camera.
The Galaxy Note 10.1 Wi-Fi is Samsung’s first tablet with S-PEN features.
FW details:
Android Version: Android 4.1.1
Product code: GT-N8010EAADBT
PDA: N8010XXBLK9
I can confirm, 4.1.1 is out for german unbranded devices.
Looks extremely butterly smooth
Confirming
Got the update this morning, Galay Note 10.1, N8010, 16 GB WiFi, bought in Germany.
any possibility to install it in the UK without much fussing? thanks
Image should be on Sammobile by today, you can flash it manually then - without annoying reboot-fix
Edit: Not downloadable yet but they announced it: just keep checking http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/ for "N8010"

In UK we waited so much. So more days shouldn't be a problem.
If i'm not mistaken for OTA we need original recovery image?
I'm running clockworkmod right now (with reset counter / triangle away) so i guess i won't get the update OTA?
What are the steps to get original recovery back? Normally, on reboot, the tablet would flash it from 'somewhere' with install-recovery.sh right?
So it should be stored in the original rom/flash as well..
I flashed stock ics, I really am curious if I'll get OTA. I can wait a few days, but my patience is limited so I hope it won't take long for my region to get it. What a stupid thing, carrier related firmware for a Wi-Fi only device...

Don't know the exact steps but to get the OTA you need to be on original Rom and have your Flash Counter reseted (Triangle Away). Tutorial is on this forum somewhere, I may have read it in one of the N8000 4.1.1 OTA Threads.

To explain a bit more:
- I had two tablets originally. (EU region Netherlands)
- The first one did a small OTA update for some sort of fix package, i don't know what it fixed exactly.
- I rooted the first one, but this one kept flashing back original recovery
- I used to boot into CWM directly after ODIN to get root
- Rebooted one time, got back original recovery (good!)
- Used triangle away to get flash counter reset.
- Had this one rooted, but original recovery and flash counter 0
Then, i got another one.
- This one never got any OTA update no hard i tried.
- I Figured it was already up-to-date, FW version was same as the first tablet.
- I used the same CWM method to get root
- But it never flashed back the recovery to stock by itself. (oh noes!)
- At this point the first tablet is no longer in my possession..
- I checked with ADB, the install-recovery.sh file is also not in the firmware.. (huh?)
I'm assuming for OTA i need the flash counter at zero, and original recovery, as this OTA is flashed by recovery image..
Unless a version comes out i can flash by KIES i'm sorta screwed
(Ps. other than CWM recovery, i'm still on original rom..)

It is not advisable to flash the OTA but instead flash the complete firmware as it may not work if you flash OTA for someother region.
You use ODIN to flash the full firmware, which will be what you will get to download at samfirware.
You will need to root the device again
Yeah and where will we get a full firmware? From the terribly slow sammobile mirrors -.-
They were much faster a year ago. Now they have slowed to a crawl and all the while the firmwares become ever bigger
This is bull Samsung! The us 8013 has not seen anything yet!
Remember how long it took from the n8000 dbt fw until the other regions got it? I hope it will not be the same with the n8010 and 8013, I mean I hope it will go faster.

Unroot, default, stock recovery etc, N910F on EE UK

I want to put my note 4 back to complete factory restore, and install latest marshmallow (non EE firmware) stock recovery, complete unroot. Whats the easiest way to get this done apart from giving it to someone else to sort out lol
Thanks
And please don't say use the search etc.. Because I've been looking (maybe not very well) All night and my brain is fried now.

Need your Opinion

So i'am getting my Axon 7 in some days.
I don't really wanna stay stock, but also dont want to run any unstable rom.
So i was thinking about flashing RR + A.R.I.S.E..
Can you recommend me any rom, kernel, mod?
And are there any rom compatible restrictions for the different models?
thx
Hmm i recommend you stock because when you switch to custom you will not get full Axon 7 experience (especially audio) you will not get 100% audio in custom like in stock. Stock isn't bad - nearly like clean Android despite may 2 or 3 APS that you can disable in system. Said far I have Axon since December and firstly I want to switch to custom but I will if Axon will not get Oreo and custom will have Oreo. So as far - most stable and usefully in everyday use is stock.

Hope you got an A2017U - both the G and chinese versions don't have any kernels made for them. I'd also advise staying on stock. There's a Dual boot patcher, seems like a good idea if you want to run another OS besides stock.
But I tell you, no other ROM runs like Stock does right now. and it's been more than a year since they launched the phone, so at least until Android O launches I wouldn't expect that to change

I think i can live without a custom kernel.
Then i think i wont even root, because unlocking bootloader looks kinda messy to me.
Still have my Nvidia Tab's to play around with so the Axon 7 can stay completly stock.

They are. Actually the guide is ONLY for the A2017G.
And OTAs are broken out of the box but you just download the official ZIP and put it on the root of the internal storage or the SD and go to Updates, and it does the process just like an OTA. You can also do this to upgrade or downgrade to MM, even if your device is fully stock, locked bootloader and everything
I live in France and bought mine with Amazon from Germany. So it's a G model. Stock works fine and I think you really don't need to root this device. I've only change the launcher by Nova which brings a much better user experience.

Well if you want to get back the best way is to drop an official full update zip from ZTE on the internal storage, use a flashable recovery zip like those tron1 makes, then use TWRP's reboot to recovery button, and flashing that update zip through there.
My way to RR was the bad battery and sot on stock. I got 4 hrs but that's not enough for me.

Then i think i will root.
To unlock bootloader and flash TWRP with the Toolkit.
1. Do i have to dowgrade to mm to use the toolkit or should it work with latest OTA?
2. Can i still flash the Updates with twrp?

1. Just try to use it. I expect it to workk, but never used it myself. Better ask @bkores
2. Usually you can, the best way is to flash tron1's flashable OTAs (if you have TWRP) cause he gets rid of the recovery file though. If you try to flash an official zip with TWRP it might work (i flashed full B04), but TWRP will get replaced with the official recovery. You just flash it again
1) Stay STOCK
2) Avoid completely unlock the phone, root, etc etc
3) Buy a U (American) version
