Everyone facing charging port issue after one year - Nokia 6.1 Plus (X6) Questions & Answers

I want to buy nokia 6.1 plus. And Want to use for long time . but i heard about charging isuue after using one year.
So i just want to confirm is everyone facing this problem.

There are people who report the issue after using for only a couple months and others who have used theirs for nearly 2 years and not had any problems. It's all a combination of luck and how well you treat your charging port. That's all.

I have had this phone since May, and I have replaced the charging port twice. First time took about 4 months before you could tell there was a problem. I also agree with the other comment with how you treat the charging port. Big problem is that the cord wiggles in the port once connected. I love the phone, except for this. At least it is easy to replace and only cost about 3$ and about 15-30 minutes.

It also depends on what cable you use. Try to find a cable that fits into the port as snugly as possible, and doesn't wiggle very much. I have found that some cables fit much more tightly than others. The one that comes with the phone is pretty bad. There some very cheap cables I was able to find which seem very good. Also maybe avoid ones where the cord is very hard and bends, forcing the connector to always be exerting a bit of an upward/downward force on the port. Get one with a nice soft cord.

I'm using the same original cable since I bought the phone in June 2019 , of course it's not that heavy wiggles but it's fits quiet fine and charges my phone efficiently.
I checked the voltage input using a app which is normal & battery do gets charged. Never changed my port or the cable till now (as of this comment).

My Kingdom for a working Car Charger

Since AT&T no longer supports the Tilt i can't buy an original car charger from them anymore. The one i have no longer works, and from what i've gathered across the intarwebz is that unless you have a factory original car charger or l33t soldering skills, you don't get to have a car charger anymore. Is this right?
Since i don't own a soldering gun, is there a car charger that will work guaranteed? I checked HTC's site and it looks like they are just selling cheap aftermarket generic car chargers.
ANy help would be appreciated.
Thanx Snow
i just got mine from seidio in a combo bundle, no problems for me
How long have you had yours Gelf? Mine worked great initially, then one day i noticed it wasn't charging at all.
Car Charger
I am using a car charger from a Blackberry. If fact, my wall chrager is also from Blackberry. Had them left over from the old days.
Never have any problems.
http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/product/4072.htm
I have one of these, it's a genuine one and charges as well as a wall charger.
My mini USB connector is knackered after I tried to re-set my phone by jamming the stylus in it, so now I have to wiggle it to get it to charge.
Any mini usb charger will work. depending on the volts it may take longer to charge. I sell them all day at Radio Shack and use it for my tilt. just a generic one will do
Don't go cheap on these -- I had a cheap one that fried a device.
I currently use this Belkin...
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001FB578I
includes a 1-amp quick-charge port and a standard 500mAh port
Im lucky i have a USB port on my stereo and i just use a standard mini usb cable to charge my phone, otherwise i use any motorola USB charger and i have nvr had a problem with any of those.
There are threads around about car chargers for Kaiser - search is always good. The general opinion seems to be that non HTC chargers can be unreliable. I've tried a few that sometimes charged and sometimes didn't. Often they would charge for a few mnutes then stop. Rarely seem to charge with GPS running, they just don't seem able to supply the power needed. However I bought a 'genuine' HTC charger from ebay and it's been working great for months. They're still available for aound $AUS20. I think it's worth trying to find one that states 1 amp output from memory. In fact, think I'll buy another now just in case they disappear! Can't remember exactly who it came from though.

Yup yup. Go HTC if you want reliability. I had a 'Tesco Value' one that showed it was charging but I could never work out why my battery was dying. I found an app that logs the mA charge or discharge rate and that told it's own story; when the Kaiser is working hard - GPS, bluetooth and a couple of apps running it can be pulling well over 500mA. Spend the money, it's worth it.
I got a phillips car charger from Asda for £5. Has tips for most types of phone including mini-usb. Charges my kaiser fine.
Hi,
I always answer the same when I see this kind of demand: buy the official HTC one, it cost something like 10 euros in the EU (probably 10-15 $), and you'll have no problem (see a previous post here).
I had a cheap one, it was a no-go. ince then it's perfect.

Agreed. The official charger has worked very well for me. Got mine here. Mailed same day and Priority Mail. Have ordered a number of things from them and highly recommend.
I use a motorola v3x car charger
Thanks for the help with alternate ideas and places to look at for buying an official adapter. I'll look around.
I bought a generic one off of Amazon and that worked for about 3 days and then it stopped charging as well. I hope that i can find a solid alternative.
And for anyone who mentioned that i should use the search or off handedly implied that i did not search. You should really stop with that behaviour. It makes you sound like a pompous clown and doesn't add anything of value to this thread or to this site for that matter. For those that provided valuable input, thank you very much for your time and consideration.

Apologies if my comment sounded rude, it was simply meant to alert you to the fact that there are many threads on this topic that may help and you didn't mention that you have searched already. I know the search function on these large boards is less than efficient and can be frustrating. It's a good idea to mention that you've searched as many people don't bother. For starters, the following threads are related to this issue and have more info than this thread:

Personally I only reply to questions if I think I can help and because I've had so much help from others, not because I have nothing better to do.
all i have to say is, i'm SURE theres a charging circuit built in that will not allow it to charge at too high of a rate in mA's, the OEM one is fairly high (like 850 or 1a as some have said) although i've had fine luck using pretty much anything, i use a mini-usb cable attached to a computer to charge most of the time, the USB standard will allow a max of 500mAh, so it takes longer, but whatever, i have also used Mot. V3 chargers for a long time with fine luck, really the only one i have that doesnt work is my bluetooth headset charger, and its mini-usb but its rated for an output of 350mA!
I had similar problems with my Kaiser. For almost a year it would charge with car charger then it stopped. It would charge fine on AC and computer USB but not in the car.
If you look inside the USB port on the phone at the bottom are two little tabs/fingers. They need to be lifted up to make contact with the charger. I took a dental tool and slightly lifted them so they make better contact with charger plug.
Also make sure that the plastic inside the usb on the phone is not curved or bent as some of the pins will then not touch then. I straightend out the plastic tab inside the USB with a small screwdriver and then made sure that the little grounding legs were bent up a bit and bingo it works.
I use a Motorola charger as well in the car and it worked fine for Blackberry and other phones I checked so I knew the issue was in the phone.
Buying a new charger may not solve the problem if its in the phone. Thanks to those who posted their findings as after I searched I was able to peice together a few ideas that worked.
go to ur local office supply and get one of those cigarette usb chargers (mine is for an HP Ipaq I used to have) and use your data cable ... it works fine

hmm Scary!

Phone won't charge :(

I'm on my phone now so I can't find the thread on this if there is one. I thought i was the only one with the issue, but I found an article on engadget.
I have a best buy protection but no best buy has any, anymore.
I'm going to make this quick, which was the best solution for getting a replacement? My 30 day ran out, and no best buys have any atm. I'm going to call like once a week and hope some get some in, and hope they don't lie about it.

Take it to the store to at least set them in motion to get you another. Also, another store might have one. Possibly a drive, but worth it. In any case the best thing to do is to let them see it and know about the problem.
my brothers and my phones were doing this as well. turned out it wasnt the usb port but it was his cable. the cables htc sends are pretty weak. ive gone through 2 so far. you could try a new cable. my evo has bungee jumped off my night stand a few times...wont charge right unless i put side pressure on cable...after new cable charges fine.
ive had the same thing just recently happen to me. i bought some cheap cables off of ebay and they worked for a week or so then my phone stopped charging and being recognized as being plugged in then i tried the cable supplied by HTC and same thing! Now, its very sporadic. None of the cables i have work in the front usb ports (1 in a separate installed card reader and 2 infront of the case), SOMETIMES the HTC cable will work with the ports in the back and the only time i can get a consistent charge and data signal to the computer is through a powered usb hub(power cord to the wall) with the HTC cable, one of the cheap chinese cables i shortened fro 3 feet to about 2 and another small cable (maybe 1-1.5ft) cable i got in desperate times at microcenter. The fact that in consistently works in the powered hub tells me that somehow, something with the amperage needed to register as plugged in or charged has changed or gone wrong on the Evo side because my machine is a well built custom build computer and i tested it in 2 other high-end custom builds i did for friends of mine and i have the same problem through all of their usb ports as well, so i know its not my motherboard giving me lip. i would like to here another statement from HTC soon about this as more people start becoming more vocal about this issue.
BTW, this literally started happening to me 2 days ago and i got mine on release day. HW REV: 02
It seems all too strange to me that this little incident surfaces on the internet basically the EXACT same time i experience it. Sounds like a little quality control in some parts used in the charging circuit got over looked and we have the same part going at about the same time for alot of people.
Wow, you are the first person that I have seen complain about this:
http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/23/htc-evo-4g-suffering-occasional-micro-usb-port-issues/
I must change the comment I made there now.
Evidently on the last update they changed something vital. Mine won't charge via the computer at all. It just stays at whatever percentage it's presently at. It won't drain either though. I've tried three different batteries too. All the same thing. The only way I can charge is by plugging it into the wall socket.

Ditto the included cable stopped working within 2 weeks, and I've gone through 3 car chargers. I have yet to get a good micro usb charger/cable they are all junk
Wouldn't you know it... As soon as I post something about it, it starts charging again. It charges really slow though. It's taken four hours to charge from 62% to 82% via the computer. It's not even worth it. I'll just have to charge it via the wall plug.
I kind of had the same issue today after installing a new ROM. I removed the HTC Sync earlier to get Revolked 3 working. But after that my phone USB cord wouldn't charge, or even connect. It would for a few seconds, then it would just act like it wasn't plugged in. But installed the HTC Sync again, and was back to normal where my PC would charge the phone.
Hopefully this insight helps someone.

Thats because it "trickle" charges via the USB.. This is why they say if you are having battery issues to charge your phone this way.
Yeah I have the same problem with my phone not charging I was transferring files back and forth and after that it started messing up and I have to put the phone In a weird position for it to charge...very slowly might I add...very weird though that this started at the same time endgadget posted up the article

Loose Charger

I've had my vibrant since August and lately I've noticed the charger is extremely loose. It wiggles left and right a lot and falls off very easily, has anyone else noticed this or is it just me??
I also have it with the charger that comes with the phone, good thing is i have another OEM charger.
I had this happen to my motorola cliq. hopefully its the charger cord and not the charge port on your phone...that would suck. Try a diff cord to see if that helps you out. Not to be a downer, but it was the port on my cliq...
A very small port (like our microUSB port) with a not so small cable lends itself to experiencing excess strain if you're not careful. This is the nature of small ports and the laws of physics.
I bought my Vibrant on craigslist so I can't vouch for the OEM cable, only have blackberry branded micro USB cables, and they work fine, very snug. So try a different cable, if its still just as bad it may be your port.
I just had to buy a new charger cause I had the same issue
I had this issue after about a month I went to a local discount electronic store and got a micro usb cord for 5 bucks works great
Op, exact same thing as of 3 days ago.
It's the cable. My nexus one charger fits the Vibrant perfect, no wiggle.

To be honest, tonight I woke up, my phone was lighting up telling me less than 15% left and I noticed the charger tilted downwards and didn't charge... Hmmmmm
You could go on amazon and find an external oem charger,it comes with an extra oem battery and i think it was like 30 bucks.
I never charge by phone anymore
$3 if you have the wall plug:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B001XXUOQI/ref=mp_s_a_1?qid=1302977850&sr=8-1
I have an old nokia micro usb charger that my brother jacked to use in his car hopefully it's not loose otherwise I'm gonna get a warranty replacement =/
wiggles left and right? Yes falls off very easily? NO
Ebay after market charger they work fine for me and very cheap
i really thought it was me i . i also notice that its not charging my phone as fast as it used to im talking about 30 min and only brings it up to 20%. and its charging while off!!
i find myself taking my moms charger a lot now a days lol
I too have had this issue. At first it was just the cable, as other MicroUSB cables had a more solid connection, but now it doesn't matter which cable I use, indicating the port in in the phone is at fault. I'm going to be asking T-Mo for a RMA because of it.

Busted Charging Port

Alright guys?
Accidentally leaned on my phone the other day whilst it was charging. Seems to have bent the charger port on the phone.
The phone still charges ONLY if the charger is plugged in and propped up in a certain way. needs to be pulled up slightly or there's no charge.
USB drive nor ADB work anymore so i'm guessing that a circuit has broken...
Does anybody know how these work?
If it's a case of broken connection, perhaps putting phone in an oven for a few mins will melt the the solder and hopefully fix the connection? (This worked fixing my 8800GT graphics card few years back!) Long shot
Ta
If it's truly broken then i'll probably get an SGS and then take a hammer to the HD2
The micro-usb port on HD2's is flimsy. It's probably snapped off from the mainboard, and putting pressure in the correct way is pushing it back together. Same thing happened to my HD2.
But there is some relatively good news. An external charger and an extra battery will only cost you about $16-18 USD on ebay. This has worked just fine for me for over a year. With dropbox installed on your phone and comp, you rarely have to connect via usb anyways.
if poss, check with another cable first.
I have a usb cable that looks fine but will only charge when angled downwards, no data, , yet if i bend it upwards it carries data but wont charge. my other usb cable works perfectly.
chances are it IS the port, as said they're pretty flimsy, however best to check, be a shame to bake your phone for the sake of a £2 cable.
same thing happened to me a few months ago,
the usb in the phone broke,
so i got a mains battery charger from ebay for about £4 and a few extra batterys,
been using them now for bout 2 months and all is good again,
it was a pain trying to get the usb in the right place for it to charge , i tryed the oven thing and it didnt work , not sure if i left it in there for long enough but i didnt want to ruin my phone completly.
easy option is to buy a mains battery charger
Thanks for the replies!
I'll look into a mains charger and 2-3 more batteries
So after my phone failing to charge at all last night I popped down to the local phone shop / stand in town and bought a universal battery charger.
+ and - aren't labelled on the charger so I assume it doesn't matter or it works out which is which?
It's a little slow and was a bit pricey, either way I have 63% battery now after a couple hours
Thanks
Wow mine's at 100% after a couple hours

Charging port failing?

OK guys, I've waited a while to finally post this but I'm about to toss this device.
So for the past few months USB charging cables no longer stick into the charging port. When you first get the device you could practically flail the phone around by the USB cord. However, now they are so lose I have to tape the cord to the phone to maybe get it just right and charge. The USB slot is looser than a two dollar whore now.
It first started with the factory charger (which died) and never got a replacement (thanks moto)! So got another 3rd party charger and that cable was better but still not tight. Now no cable will stick and is a sloppy mess.
I'm assuming this is going to require a RMA and replacement? Would this even be covered, and considering the RMA for my stock charger months later resulted in no new charger it's worrying too attempt a phone RMA. Let alone the short lifespan of the port. I only plug in ever 1-2 days by the way.
Anyone else having this issue and if so what did you do?
Sent from my XT1575 using XDA Free mobile app
Out of all of my devices, I've only had one port fail, on a tablet, that I believe someone sat on while it was plugged in. But, on all of my devices, I plug them in and leave the device alone. Are you tossing your device around while it's plugged in, or sleeping next to it while it's plugged it? I know parts fail, but the stock charger clips in snugly on my moto daily, and on my tablet every 3rd day, and I have zero issues. Even my cheap cables and car charger plugs snugly. Maybe you just got a faulty part.

Take a look at the two spring loaded prongs on your cable. Are they still pointy and extended? Usually when this happens I notice my prongs have noticeable wear on them
Sent from my SM-T810 using Tapatalk
No, I don't use my phone and cable as a mace or as a personal defense weapon when I play superhero on the weekend However it does have it's home on the nightstand next to the bed with one of my tablets. I haven't dropped or sat on the device whilst plugged in, I have done this with previous phones where it bends the metal on the USB cable but even then hasn't caused a loose port on those devices.
One of the cables indeed has worn down prongs to my surprise for being new, so I looked through my drawers of cables and found one with nice shiney new prongs. This does make locking in place more efficient in my case but not like it was new. You can still fairly easily loose connection moving the device around while plugged in but not instant disconnect from gravity like the stock charger or the other cables.
I would check the charging port for lint. This can cause a cable not to stay in. Simply take a piece of tape and roll it back onto itself with the sticky side out making sure it's the right side to fit in the port. I've done this with several devices and it makes a big difference.
