What are the differences between Global and EEA MIUI? - Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Questions & Answers

Hi,
Which are the differences between Global Miui (the ones that ends with PFGMIXM) and EEA Miui (the ones that ends with PFGEUXM)?
If I live in Italy, can I install one or the other indifferently?
Is this the official site with the most recent roms?
https://c.mi.com/oc/miuidownload/detail?device=1700360
Thank you very much for the answers.

i'm italian but i have to write in english, basically the firmware changes based on the region, ours is the european one (EEA) and we can only install (officially) just that firmware. If you try to install a firmware for a another region it will give you error

Grazie Simo,
currently I have installed the European firmware (PFGEUXM), but if I change the region to Switzerland or Turkey, can I install the global firmware (PFGMIXM)?
I just ask to know, I don't care about changing the Miui from EEA to Global, it's just that I would like to understand what are the differences.

no,it isn't the same thing. Without modding you can't change anything

NEVER ask this question to a Xiaomi person - you'll waste hours OR DAYS of your life going round and round in circles, and ALL you'll end up with, as a summary, will be something as braindead, obvious and mind-numbing as an "answer" like this:
"EEA is for EEA or European handsets, and global is for global handsets..." etcetera, etcetera, etcetera... -_-
YES YES, we KNOW there ARE different versions, but WE are asking YOU, WHY those versions differ, and what is contained within them that MAKES them different (seriously, I've Googled this stuff for AGES, and the ridiculous responses make me despair for the apparent TOTAL absence of sane, intelligent insight OR critical thought employed by the hive-mind, copy/paste society we live in now.

I will try to give a simple answer.
EEA - European ROM. Has to comply with EU regulations, it doesn't send any data to Xiaomi. Fewer updates than global.
Global - The most updated after China ROM, usually installed on phones outside Europe. It sends some data to Xiaomi, gets more updates and more quickly.
These should be the major differences, I hope I have explained them in a simple way.

What you want, in other words, is a modded China ROM, which doesn't send (much) data back to the land of the Cultural Revolution.

Is it safe to flash a rom in an African or Asian European SGS?

It's a question nobody can answer yet. Thanks in advance
Dunno if it's safe or not but i'm using asian rom on my Europe SGS now.
And I'm using a european rom on my Asian phone (and I've flashed so many roms).
Ones to avoid are the US/Canadian/Korean Rom's. Always double check it boots up with I-9000 (the canadian one is I-9000M, still works, but still not recommended).
But as always, there is always an element of risk installing untrusted roms. They might compromise your data, contain trojans, be for another phone or contain "optimisations" which cause serious issues longterm.
But haven't had any problems.. Yet (I think)
i've flashed various european firmwares (xwjm5, xwjm2, xxjp3) over my stock asian firmware(dxjf4)
now i'm currently running on the african firmware (jpjg8), so i doubt there's much problems.
Yes, its safe. They don't really differ - just different languages.
Though, if something goes wrong - not my falt =)
the languages can be set to english once you pop your sim card in. nothing bad should happen

Lollipop for Latin American MT7-L09

Okay so upon further investigation I came to learn that the phone I purchased is an unlocked unbranded MT7-L09 from Colombia. I have reverted back to the original firmware, which is B120SP04a. My question is there anyone else here with a Mate 7 from Latin America? If so, have you been able to successfully update to the official Lollipop? If so, what firmware were you on and what region did you install Lollipop from?
Any help and advice is GREATLY appreciated!
TIA
P.S. To determine what region my device was from I did the following:
1. In dialer, dial *#*#2846579#*#*
2. Go to ProjectMenu
3. Go to Network Setting
4. Go to Operator and country info
Mine shows Operator Name as hw and Country Name as nla
According to a guide I saw on CarbonTesla these are some of the other regions:
hw/spcseas – Malaysia
unicomelectric/cn – China
hw/meafnaf – Pakistan
mts/by – Belarus
I live in Central America and I upgraded succesfuly using the guides you find here. Used the official EU firmware and works great.

I live in the U.S., but the phone I purchased is from Northern Latin America. Perhaps the phone you have is European. I have tried all the versions available here and none of them work properly. I have installed both the versions from Malaysia and the one from Europe, each has some type of problem when installed or lack functionality. This is because in fact my phone is not from any of those regions. I saw a guide on how to change the Region for the Huawei Honor 4C, but I cannot find anything for the Mate 7, plus it seems a bit risky to change the region.
I saw a video on youtube of a guy in Peru who successfully updated to Lollipop, but the guy is charging and I'm not willing to pay for something I can do myself. I just need a version of Lollipop that has been released for that Region.
Well, sadly, there is no official lollipop release for LA. MT7-L09 is simply an international version and should work on most regions. I flash this rom:
"MT7-L09_Firmware_C900B324_Android 5.1.1_EMUI 3".
And upgraded from "Jazz-L09 V100R001C00B137". According to the manual, you can directly upgrade from other KK versions.

Is knuckle snapshot working for you? And did you factory reset before or after updating? Do you still have 5x5 icons available? Can you possibly post the links to the firmwares you used?
Lollipop link
kitkat b137 link
knuckle gestures work... 5x5 work... Only thing missing is being able to change DPI down to 400 which I got used to, working with 420 now.
Ohhhh.... And I did a factory reset after upgrading.
On my phone is showing this:
Operator name:hw
Country name:eu
What it means? I'm still with B137, no OTA for my phone.
Thanks in advance.

@ronnie72... That means that you have the European version. So you can just download the link posted by @Zolocofxp to upgrade to Lollipop. You may also need to download the update_cust.app which is linked here
Hope you get it working. It took me a while to finally get everything up and running properly, but the link above should point you in the right direction.
@Bonnie1977, thanks! I know now to upgrade with "Local update". But why OTA still unavailable??? Strange ....

@ronnie72... I have no idea why no OTA. I live in the U.S., so for me I'll never receive any OTA updates. I just download them from Huawei's site and do the local update.

I think that means you're locked to Claro, which is the Network provider and country seems to be Peru.

Chinese version does not support Google Play as of version B115

So I want to kind of start this discussion and work on a fix. Ideally a fix without root, if it's possible.
According to the Chinese forums, the Chinese version (which I'm getting because I want 128GB of storage) has been altered as of version B115 to not include the necessary GMS framework to allow installation of google services, play store, and so on.
Previous versions (some Chinese models shipped with B109) included the ability to load Google Services.
The first step in fixing this for people whose phones ship with more recent firmware is to find a full package of B109. The only other option will be bootloader unlock and flashing of either international firmware or google play services after unlocking the bootloader.
My phone will arrive here in Japan tomorrow, so I will work on reverse engineering the update server like I did with Mate 8, and keep everyone up to date with any progress. Does anyone else have plans to buy the Chinese version? Please feel free to chime in!
UPDATE!!
As of December, Huawei has released a package to install google services on the Mate 9. Simply search the HiApp store for GMS and get the first result.
Couldn't just install a international from through the update?
So your saying if I purchase this from a Chinese online mobile store I wont be able to get google play store on it im in need of a new phone so bad and wanted this

You will be able to get Google Play store on it IF your phone ships with version B109 or earlier. Apparently this is rare. Otherwise, you will not be able to without unlocking your bootloader, at this time. My phone is supposed to arrive today, so I will be a guinea pig and figure out what needs to be done, as obviously it's useless to me without Google Play.
I have bought Chinese huawei mate 9 too. And it doesn't have google. If anyone knows the solution please help

Good! We work together again, like the old days!
Do you have the international one now? Can you use wireshark and find out the http query from eRecovery to get the location to the latest firmware?
For example, you can get latest Mate 8 AL10 firmware like this:
Code:
curl -d '{"rules":{"D_version":"","DeviceName":"HUAWEI NXT-AL10","saleinfo":"||||||||N","IMEI":"","FingerPrint":"","FirmWare":"HUAWEI NXT-AL10-all-cn","IMSI":"","C_version":"","OS":"","HotaVersion":"e.0.1","Language":"","devicetoken":"","PackageType":"full"}}' http://query.hicloud.com:80/sp_ard_common/v2/Check.action?latest=True

Now this is very confusing. I ordered the 4/64GB version from aliexpress. All of the descriptions (of all sellers) on ali clearly highlights all the network features and bands that are only supported by the european model of Mate9, called "MHA-L29". Huawei's official specs clearly say MHA-L29 is dual-sim supported and MHA-L09 (=chinese version) is not.
I asked the seller and after 3-4 questions he finally replied it's the chinese version (of course) but tried to convince me that it will work with google play because every huawei phone they sell can work with play.
I can't risk it to have a phone that I have to mod to use play, and I can't expect the firmware updates easily without any problem/risk.
I cancelled the order, asked a few other sellers they all have the chinese version. It seems I can't get the european version with a lower price I have to wait till the phone launches here, and it will be much more expensive.
What is your opinion how difficult will it be to update the firmware with sufficient google services by tricks on the chinese models? Would you recommend it to a noob like me(I unlocked bootloaders and stuff but I can only follow specific directions) to have the chinese model backed by a worthless warranty?

I think it will be possible to do with specific directions, probably within a month -- hopefully sooner. I also think it's possible that Huawei re-introduces the ability to install Google services into a future update, because the outcry from the Chinese community is huge.
Once I find the way to do it, I will make as easy-to-follow guide as I can, but I can't promise anything! It might be very difficult if it's too different from the Mate 8.
My advice to you is to wait until a solution has been found before buying the Chinese version.

Thanks, I'm gonna wait a little more then. I cancelled my order before shipment so they must refund me without any problem. There will be a 130-150 USD difference comparing the chinese version to prices in my country. I'm hesitating to either wait for this phone or buy the OnePlus 3T on the 28th of november, but I really like the Mate9.
A best solution could be to completely trasform chinese into european. With european rom, european modem and other features like sar reduction : do you remember that mate 8 EU had a string "sar reduction yes" that in chinese there wasn't?
Do you think that is possibile to convert At 100% chinese in european? (with unlock bootloader)
We can work At this?

Customs delayed my phone's delivery to Monday, so I can't really say without looking at how it works, but I don't see any reason it wouldn't be possible to convert the Chinese version to the european one as long as we have an unlocked bootloader or root.

A2017G Japan to A2017G European/other A2017G ROMs

Hi!
I am sorry if this has been asked here before. I'm fairly new to this kind of stuff.
So I'm a foreigner living in Japan. Due to the allure of local warranty, I decided to get the Axon 7 (A2017G JPV).
It has been months since the last Nougat update came to other A2017Gs but hasn't arrived on the A2017G JPV. So I thought, may be ZTE Japan was just taking a longer time, etc. So recently, I decided to contact customer support. And their answer was unclear at best. They were apparently still deciding if they would release a Nougat update for Axon 7.
So here's my question. Considering that my Axon 7 is also A2017G, is there a way for me to install the latest A2017G European ROM or any other A2017G Stock ROMs for that matter, without unlocking my bootloader and rooting? And get OTA updates from A2017G European? If so, can someone please kindly point me in the right direction, I'm getting a bit lost.
If that isn't possible, is there a way, to install the stock A2017G ROMs (aside from JPV) and then relock the bootloader afterwards?
Please help me. Thank you.

Hi
Thank you for replying so quickly.
Please bear with me as I am still a bit confused.
The link you gave mo contains Factory Images for the A2017G, right? Therefore, I should just put the factory images (zip file), into the root directory of my SD Card, and update via settings (no need to unlock bootloader or root, right?)?
My A2017G (JPV) is now on A2017G JPV1.0.0B03.
Which factory image should I use?
Thank you very much.

I don't think you have to the same radio firmware with all the G version out there.... If you dare to try it probably you will end up bricking your phone.... So don try. Unless you are sure can warranty claim it if it is briked
Unfortunately this region locking thing came in, sometimes it's different hardware for different regions but mostly it's to stop the grey import trade...
Due to this it is a requirement to unlock your bootloader if you want to flash other region/carrier roms, which again is a trial in itself...
If you do wish to try it, make sure you have a flashable version of your FULL stock rom, not an OTA - the difference is an OTA is a patch, usually of a few hundred Mb or so to update parts of your ROM, the full ROM is a stand-alone installation that will completely replace the current ROM.
Generally this will get you out of hot water but be aware this is also not 100% guarantee...
It will probably also delete all your data, back up first....

What I'm confused about is he's not asking to flash A2017A/U firmware (where region locking comes into play) on his device, only another country's A2017G fw so why would he need to unlock bootloader? It's still fw for the global model if I understand correctly.

I'm on your side - the modem file might be different, but since the hardware is the same, it should work. Maybe the modem file has improved signal stuff for Japan, but it's extremely improbable considering ZTE's craptastic devs...
Also, what could be the worst thing that could happen? Here are the possibilities:
- Works: enjoy
- Installation failed: Should fail before even changing files anyways
- Soft brick: get to recovery, download full update zip, install, wait for Nougat
- Hard brick: "I woke up this morning and it was off, doesn't boot anymore, I want a replacement"
And if the modem is too crappy you can always go back to Japan's firmware
I believe that the Japanese version is different from the other G versions, at least on the modem level. Japan uses some bands that are not used by any other country in the world, so unless ZTE Japan decided to release the G model knowing that it would have some connectivity issues on all Japanese carriers, the Japanese G model must have at least a different modem.
Bold = band is present in the global G model
KDDI: CDMA BC0 / BC6, LTE 1/11/18/41
NTT Docomo: UMTS 1/9/19, LTE 1/9/19/21/28
Softbank: UMTS 1/8/11, LTE 1/8/9/41
I kinda get what you're getting at after looking further into the models. Basing off the spec sheets, Amazon JP has the exact same A2017G TD-LTE with matching bands sold by ZTE. Whereas on the ZTE JP page, it instead matches the bands of something named Axon 7 TD-LTE JP (couldn't find model number, but sounds like OP's A2017G). This has over half the exact bands available on A2017G, additional UMTS bands 6 & 19 and one CA band.
I think someone in another thread previously mentioned about potential signal issues with the Axon 7 being sold in Spain after flashing DE fw. Looking at their spec sheet, it appears to have a few bands missing, may have additional bands, but it's hard to tell since only the frequencies are stated. Could just be anecdotal as you'd think with the greater range of frequencies, it shouldn't face those issues. Anyways this is a separate matter, and potentially an apples to oranges comparison.
Thank you all for your advice and insights.
I figured, damn all worries, and just used the recovery mode to flash the update.zip.
Lo and behold, it was updated with seemingly no issue. Even tried if my mobile data would work properly. And it did.

We're all a bit mad though, flashing stuff on a 400 dolar thingy...
ive got the A2017 Chinese, bought from aliexpress. Ive rooted and installed the twrp flashable B15 from @djkuz, but the nougat firmware is awful for my DoCoMo phone reception (in far regional Nagasaki). So i need a method to either flash the modem for A2017G (not sure which B# release), or wait for the next chinese firmware release and hope for the best. Any suggestions or experiences to improve my reception? Is it the modem?
Thanks for all the contributions to this thread, as it has got me in the right direction.

I bought it because it was the only phone on the market at the time that [supposedly] supported Google Daydream. Later I realized that only the US version actually worked with Daydream. Later on support was added to European ROMS (when upgraded to 7.1.1). But for some reason the Japanese ROM, despite being 7.1.1 would say 'Incompatible Phone', even when installed manually. I contacted ZTE's customer service, which was terrible; all they said was "we don't know when it will be supported". This was about a year ago, so this week I just got sick of waiting, found the German firmware (A2017G-N-B10), installed it and everything works fine. The radios have no issues, and I was able to download Daydream right from the marketplace.
Thanks for everyone who contributed to this thread!

Where are you ordering your Redmi Note 7 from?

I live in Canada. Considering ordering from the website below (giztop). It says "global firmware" in description but global version is not out yet? So I'm unsure if this is indeed global.

Edit: I contacted customer service asking if it's Chinese or Global. It's Chinese with Play Store pre-installed
You can buy it in that site, it will be shipped like two days after the official release. But I recommend you to wait for the Pro version.
Be patient, wait for the pro version or wait 2 weeks after the launch
If it's shipped with a global rom and the official global rom has not been released yet, then I'd recommend not buying it. It's most likely a Vendor ROM, which looks exactly like MIUI, but won't get any updates and you'll have no idea what else has been tampered with (which you could argue you don't with any ROMs). A vendor ROM also makes it a lot more difficult to unlock bootloader and get custom rom on your phone.

It's confusing though cuz they say "All smartphones install global software, with Google Play service, and support OTA updating" under the description.

-On the same website, when it's Chinese version, it says right there in the same description box "Chinese version, English, Chinese only".

How would you find out whether the official global ROM has been released yet or no? I searched for the official ROM on miui website to see if there is a global ROM yet but the phone is not listed yet.

What is the expected release date for the Note 7 Pro?
I was planning on getting the Note 7 tomorrow when it's released, but was concerned about lack of Gapps and possibly English language pack so came here.

after the Chinese New Year, it looks like February 5th
The link I posted is the Chinese Rom
Any idea when the Global version will be out for the Note 7?
Heres a statement from a canadian.
DO NOT BUY RN7 IF YOU'RE PLANNING TO USE A CANADIAN CARRIER.
They simply do not support ALOT of the canadian bands unless youre ok with 3G All the time.
BTW: order it from aliexpress. they're wellknown and sell almost EVERY redmi device ex: Redmi note 5 pro
Anyone knows the realest date of the global version?

Most likely February, if you can't wait get the redmi note 6 pro or mi a2 lite.
I read somewhere that Redmi Note 7 Pro will be released 25.02.2019 ?
I suppose that we should wait two months for official release of global ROM
So the Chinese version will not have the additional bands even once flashed with a Global ROM?
Also the Chinese version will have an English language pack, but no Google Apps? So no play store etc.
Is this correct?

Just want to confirm one final thing, provided the Chinese bands work on my local network providers - if I order a Chinese version will I be able to flash it with a Global ROM once the global ROM becomes available?
I am thinking about waiting for the Redmi Note 7 Pro, however I have noticed that currently with the Redmi Note 7 which is being sold as a global version on sites such as Banggood and Gearbest the price is significantly higher than what it retails for on the official Mi.com website. (Roughly $175 on Mi.com vs $250 or more on the other sites).
So if I know that I will be able to flash the global ROM once it is released (hopefully within a week or two of the Chinese release) then I will try get a Redmi Note 7 Pro from the Mi.com chinese site and the shipping will take around 2 weeks to reach me. So by the time I receive it hopefully a global ROM will be available for me to flash it and I will then have an almost equivalent version of a global ROM (different network bands though).
Does this sound as if it would work? Am I forgetting or misunderstanding anything?
what's the difference btw this and pro version?

The Pro version has not been announced yet. But it will come with a Sony 48 MP sensor, better Snapdragon processor (maybe 675 or 710). I far as I know, that's the only things informed by people. It should be announced by the second week of February.
