I bought the Nexus-S on Thursday it is my 3rd Android device, first was the MyTouch3G, and the EVO. I did have a iPhone3G back in the day.
My siblings were over for a Christmas party last night, and my brother and sister both own the iPhopne4, and boy does that OS look and feel dated.
I keep reading how awesome the iPhone 4 is, supposed to be the #1 best smartphone on the market ? I will agree, the look and design of the phone itself is very nice, and feels very solid well put together. But the OS just seems so 3 years ago, with just a screen full of app icons, and no notifications, no widgets, and a small 3.5" just not doing it for me. I think my Nexus-S is a much better product, the live wallpapers might be a gimmick, but I love my starfield one, looks very StarTrek cool. Plus the Super AMOLED screen is so much nicer than the retina display.
I am not bashing Apple, I would possibly buy an iPhone 5, if they make a larger screen, and must add in widgets and a notification system.
One last beef, is the middle thumb button on the iPhone, oh my God, that has to go. I think I would throw the phone against the wall if that's the only button to press. Where is the menu button, and back button ? Just having a home button would be annoying.

To each, his own my good man, but I am definitely with you there... Like looking back (to five days ago) I don't know what I was thinking haha. iPhone 4 is terrible, I don't ever want to buy another Apple phone, but I somehow always do... Hopefully I'll break the tradition in '11.
The OS may feel "dated" but it is much more polished than Android is.
And that's coming from an iPhone user for the past 2+ years who just made the switch to Android with Nexus S.
Welcome to android. All that was true even a year ago with the nexus one. Android OS is just so much more interesting and useful and functional than iOS. It's not even close.
But apple OS does look more polished for some things. To me personally I don't see a huge difference though.

Well, this isn't my first Android device. I was an early adopter with the G1 when it first came out, but ditched it after 6 months or so.
That said, the major area where iOS beats Android is the lack of pop up menus. The flow in iOS is very nice and intuitive. Keyboard is also better plus things like copy and paste, scrolling in the browser etc. App quality and selection is still superior on iOS.
Give Android one, at best two more years, and Apple will piss into its pants.
Thought the same thing ... screen looks tiny and. Os feels out dated... and I have a vibrant..
I do agree the iphones features are very well put together and polished but. It gets boring it super difficult to customize.. also sucks how every single app has to have a back button.. also u can only have 3g only on att Wich sucks cuz att sucks! Just to put it plain and simple the iphone is well made but its boring ... alot of. More fun with android especially playing with ur home screen
The only thing i miss is the ability to take a screenshot w/o a 3rd party app. haha
There are two things iphone/ipod/ipad never has:
ogg vorbis support (much better fidelity than mp3)
adobe flash
The screen on NS is simply the best
color: NS>MT4>nexus one
contrast: NS>nexus one (both have unlimited contrast)>MT4
I also found antenna jack uncovered on NS, so you can plug external antenna when driving to get much more constant reception.
In addition, micro/miniUSB data/charging jack is much more common on smartphones now.
Im just glad people are starting to notice how Android is ahead of iOS even at its early stages..oh BTW I LOVE NEXUS S! Coming from N1

Could you provide more details on that? Where's this uncovered antenna jack at?
Are you talking about the little micro-connector to the right of the batter, near the lower volume rocker, when the battery cover is removed? What kind of external antenna are you using?

that's extremely easy on android. lol, just open the app drawer, drag and drop any app you would like on your homescreen or any other screen and THERE YOU HAVE IT!! turn screen on and tap the app! how hard was that?

I would agree with you prior to the Nexus S....but this new Google phone is every bit as good and polished as the iphone 4 IMO.
Some general questions about ios vs android?
1)We are all saying that android is open source and ios is not...why then all the great hackers like Musclenerd, Saurik and Geohot are interested more in iphone?....which hach scene is larger?
2)Why android manufactors dont build a direct iphone killer device which also has the same top build quality and design with iphone?
3)Ok i dont like ios cause of its simplicity...but generally it is a lot user friendly.... android as rubin said is getting day by day better in tha area....but when you touch even the old iphone 3gs the smoothness of scrolling is sth unmatched by any high end android device i have used in 2010....like galaxy s with lagfix or Desire HD.....i mean the response and smooth scrolling is amazing.It feels so natural.

(FYI: email app needed to connect via activesync to my corp mail server - K9 doesn't work either. GMail app is great...but since I have to use 2 different email apps, that means no unified inbox).
The Android facebook app is absolute *crap* (can't even tag people in photos, lame).
Evernote/Mint/etc look much better on the iPhone.
iPhone's battery life is SO much better than the Nexus S (anandtech's review showed you can browse the web for *twice* as long on the iPhone)

I disagree with most of your reasoning and anandtech's review was biased, just another iPhone fan boy reviewing an Android phone? c'mon now.... Esp the battery life he claims it identical to Nexus One? He must have a defect because the battery life is a HUGE improvement and there are many forums to prove this. And speaking of notification, Android BROUGHT notification to the game. There's more than just a pop up screen that we could use. I understand maybe for the Nexus S yea it doesnt have LED but I actually think No Led is clean and unique.
First of all let me give you a little background about myself. I am the mobile admin for a major software company in Silicon valley. I have access to any phone I feel that is worth testing so I can be completely unbiased. Here are the pros and cons of the S3 which I am now testing:
Pros:
1. Screen is big and very nice. It is pentile but I can barely tell. The iPhone 4s is a bit sharper but the s3 just looks better. Blacks are black. and they toned down the punchiness of the OMLED
2. The phone is thin and sexy. I got the casemate barley there which gives the phone more grip and fits like a glove.
Cons:
1. It gets warm with use.
2. When using auto brightness the avg brightness is to week. If it were bumped up about 25% it would be perfect or even better if you could adjust the avg brightness like you can with the iPhone it would be perfect.
2. Im in the bay area and do not get a solid LTE signal with ATT like I do on the iPad. Most of the times its on 4G 5 bars when my iPad has LTE. When it is in LTE I get the usual 20-40mbps which is great.
3. Android OS is just not as polished and solid as iOS. Yes it has more capabilities but it just doesn't work as well for me.
4. it was charged to 100 percent at midnight so I unplugged it and went to bed. Woke up at 7 am and it was at %50. I looked at the battery menu and didn't see anything out of the norm. Yes its possible I left some app running in the back ground but I should not have to worry about that. Apple got it right why can't google? If I ever forget to plug it in then it will most likely die in the middle of the night and I may miss an important work call. The iPhone can be at %20 and if I forget to charge it, it will be at %15 in the am.
Overall the perceived build quality doesn't compare to the iPhone 4s but its not bad with the gorilla glass 2 screen and Casemate barely there. Even though the 4S feels more solid Id feel safer dropping the S3 then the 4s since the 4S has more glass. Im really hoping to make this my primary phone but its no where near the 4S in terms of usefull functionality. Hardware wise its light years ahead. With the 4S i use it as a tool. With the S3 i use at so I can look at it and go ooooh ahhhh. I keep picking it up so I can run my finger across the awesome OMLED screen to hear the water and look at my background pic which is the dandy lion. Now if I could just blow on it
I'm curious, other than the OS on the iphone being a little more intuitive and user friendly, what functionality did you find in the iphone that you don't find in the S3? I'm coming over from an iphone myself and am finding that the whole iphone vs droid debate is a little overblown. Out of the actually functional uses and not just stuff to play around with and tweak, I haven't found much that one phone can do that the other can't. They both do pretty much the same things, just some of the things are done a little differently.
Well, except for the battery life on the S3 which from what I've read on this and other forums is a common issue and one which the iphone doesn't have. I'd have to say that that is my biggest disappointment with this phone.
I agree on somethings you have to say about the GS3, I too am a heavy iPhone user and I have been looking for a good Android to replace the iPhone 4s with. I have access to ANY phone I want as well and I have tested just about them all, One X's Lumina 900's ect they were all good but I kept coming back to the iPhone 4S, it just couldn't be beat.
Until now, I've been using an International GS3 and just switched to the ATT version and while both were good, the ATT model works better, I live in LTE even though my phone is on Home WiFi most of the time. I prefer the ATT over the Quad Core model.
But this thing does it all the iPhone does, I've got everything syncing back and forth with all the Mac's iPads ect, its all good to go.
The little iPhone screen is just to small these days, if your like my buddy that never tired a 4 plus inch screen then your fine with the iPhone, but no way can I try and read emails on the iPhone, just too small.
The GS3 is here to stay, until the next greatest thing comes out.
Oh and the Rock Case is way better the Case Mate's.:good:

Yes i am a troll. Im a troll that really likes this phone. Im going to give it more time. Ive tried 100s of Android phones and hands down this is the best. compared to the iPhone its quirky but I'm bored out of my mind with the iPhone 4 design and small screen so I'm think I'm going to switch to this baby until the iPhone 5 hits the market in 4 months or so.
I too would like to hear what the iPhone can do that the s3 can't? I also went from the iPhone a 3GS model to the S3 and it can do anything that my iphone did and may things it does better. Like the last poster stated the iPhone is just too small plus this thing is just way faster than my iPhone ever dreamed of being.

Im not downing the s3 at all. On the contrary i think its a great phone and better then the iphone 4 in many ways and I have pretty much decided to make it my primary phone. I was just being honest about a few things I found that I do not like but its my opinion.
in my opinion Apple's iOS may not have the flexibility and features of Android but it is rock solid and does what it does best. Now with my ipad 3 and the S3 I have the best of both worlds. The S3 is an amazing phone but I stand by my review from my personal experience.

I find it hard to believe that you are un bias, you seem to be very much ingrained inn the ios camp. Which is to bad because I was expecting an gives review. That being said, I disagree with you on a few points.
First off, the last 4 nights I have had Nino more than 6% battery drain, most nights have been about 5 or 4. So 50 is hard to believe unless you had to screen on all night with apps running.
Second, I have an iPhone 4 and compared my sgs3 with a 4s and hands down the sgs3 was know responsive, more fluid, and multi tasking was un comparable. I returned an app a day later and was at the exact same place doing the same action as if I never left.
All actions performed faster on the sgs3.
Maps and GPS lock quicker and load faster.
S voice actual understands what I say 90% of the time vs 50% with siri.
I use to be a hardcore ios guy, always pcs though, and I couldn't imagined going back to such a stifling os like ios.
I to am curious at what you believe runs better on ios vs android.
The only thing ios has that android doesn't is consistency among hardware which equals an overall smoother software experience due to the lack of fragmentation. But is rather have choices and freedom in my software and hardware than be pigeon held to what Apple believes I want.
The screen on the 4 s is nice, but ios a screen that small it is wasted.
Additionally, I hate even calling ios an operating system, it's nothing more than a glorified app launcher. Up until recently it lacked all customizability, and even now are so far behind android in terms of os function that they are going to have to make significant changes to even the playing field. Android simply creates a feature rich os, leaving ios seeming stale and UN bending.

I am sure with a little bit of time getting to know the ends and outs of the new operating sytem and tricks that you will like it just as much. I think it's a matter of what you get used too IMO.
Did you know that it can do Visual Voicemail too? I installed the app from the market and it works well. Just had a heck of a time getting AT&T to provision the service right, but that's not the phone's fault.
Well I'd say that was a pretty unbiased review so thank you. Some people will feel otherwise, but this is a GSIII forum so most people here are obviously going to be pretty biased towards THEIR own phone lol.
I have tweaked and played with the whole spectrum of iOS devices and android devices. I have a Mac Pro, Macbook Pro, and an iPad3 (and a GSIII and GSII ) so I'm pretty unbiased as well.
IMHO, this phone is first that really gives the iPhone4s and iOS a run for its money. Out of the box there's no question that iOS and the iPhone4 are more polished. The iPhone4S feels great in your hand and iOS is very intuitive especially for people who have little to know interest in 'tweaking' things.
But the screen is far too small, the glass is VERY prone to breaking if dropped, and I don't like to be looked into iOS's ecosystem.
I used an iPhone4 while I waited for my GSIII to arrive and all in all it wasn't that bad. At this point in time I think virtually everything you can do on one platform, you can do on the other. All just personal preference I guess.
But I will say apple needs to really have some groundbreaking stuff for the iPhone5 to keep up!

Can some one tell me why they think ios is more intuitive? How so? Android operates far mode naturally, with gesture control, motion activation, combination actions like reject call to text... android is far more seamless to operate and navigate from home to app to app etc... the only reason why I believe people think ios is more intuitive is, because it has been around so long and has changed very little, people are confusing intuitive with familiar... that's just my take on it.

agree, it's muscle memory. I've used android so much that I stumble using an iphone and many things to me seem counter intuitive. it doesn't mean the system is bad, it just means my experience gives me a different way of doing things. another example of this is a study that was done on IQ tests. When they asked a bunch of kids from chicago and puerto rico to give an example of umbrella use, the kids from chicago said the obvious, for rain. the puerto rican kids stated that it was for sunny days, giving completely different answers and uses. So each group gave answers that spoke to their personal experiences.
so to go back to the point at hand, the whole android vs ios thing is stupid because it all depends on your perspective. how a ui feels, if it's intuitive or smooth, if a phone feels sturdy or not, these are subjective feelings that are too dependent on things that build up to that. they are also dependent on your own viewpoint of smartphones. if a smartphone is in the same category as a toaster to you then ios is great, but if a smartphone is an artifact that increases the capacities of the human senses, then android will probably be your bet.

iOS is way simpler and predictable. The answer is really that simple. An OS can install apps and programs. That's it. Customization is not a requirement. Look at Windows Phone. Having a single button and apps already there on the screen makes a big difference. The extra layers that Android adds with homescreens and app drawers and capacitive buttons and secret menus and randomly holding things to see if functions pop up. Ugh. Not as intuitive. The back button closes the app but the home button doesn't? How about just keep a stranglehold on memory and background services so battery life is always good no matter what. The idea is so novel.
The next Android version should be called Sour Patch Kid. SPK

Actually this post shows that you know nothing of android.
First off, backing doesnt close programs unless a) you specify it to by selecting (kill app on longpress) or b) if the app prompts you to do so.
Secondly, you obviously have been brain washed to think that an app launcher is the same thing as an os. (And yes WM is in the same category as ios) take a look at any pc/Mac based os, you are provided with a user defined workspace, within this workspace you can control, launch, schedule and manipulate software and data through out the system. All a dedicated app launcher does Is to organize each individual program for access and deployment... that's all ios really is.
Long pressing and gestures are all part pour the process that makes these devices more intuitive... that's what intuitive means, taking tasks and making them more seamless and natural... this is of course based on perception. But considering that I have spent atleast twice as much time on ios than android my perception is well rounded. I still have an iPhone 4 I use it as a music player for my kids. And occasionally play with it and everything seemingly takes more steps.
now I know you are a troll, I've seen you in many other threads trying to reassure and convince yourself that ios is in some way superior, that must be a constant struggle.
Admittedly, ios has its benefits, but everyday android advances while ios stays stagnant, they as just now implementing features that android has had for two years. I home they step up their game and make android work for their inevitable win. I guess we will see what the iPhone 5 will bring, but if it's just a 4" 4s then they will practically give their customers to android. It's only a Matter of time before the faithful Iphone users see that the others are passing them up. That's what happened to me, I use to argue to no end with my friends on android but eventually got so board with ios that I bought an infuse to replace my 4 and have since seen what these devices can really do when allowed the freedom to do so.

My 1st smartphone was when the iPhone 1st came out. Since my 1st android device (Droid/Milestone), I was converted and became an iPhone hater(especially after I got the Nexus One). But you gotta admit, the iPhone can hold its charge better than any Android. With that I have to place the blame on the OS. But who knows??? If iOS implemented widgets on the homescreen it might b a different story. OTHER THAN Better BATTERY management, there isn't anything that the iPhone can do that my Android can't. It's the iPhone that CAN'T do a lot of what Android phones can.
What are some ways you can compare a nexus to iPhone in real life?

My friends are deluded and seem to be going by just looks, how do I show them the N4 is more than what they think it is?

Then again anyone who has used both a lot will say that they are somewhat close to each other. They're both incredible phones and to be honest, anyone who says the iPhone is a lot better is just biased , and vice versa with people claiming the nexus 4 is a lot better. Both phones are somewhat close and it ends up falling on personal preference.

In all the tests I've seen (yet), the iPhone always beats other smartphones in terms of battery life. The difference isn't night and day, but the iPhone probably lasts around 1/4 or 1/3 longer than most smartphones.
With the Nexus 4 looking freaking incredible, looks isn't an argument anymore. The iPhone also has a very nice design, but what I hate is that they don't really change it. I have the same criticism towars Google by the way. It's a shame that the Galaxy Nexus and the Nexus 4 look so similar at the front. But that's only one time, and the back IS different (and nicer), so at least I have a feeling it has changed. Apple changes too, but not as much as other companies.
Where the Nexus 4 really shines though is the OS. It's just a fact that you can do a whole of a lot more with Android. A whole lot more. Advantage of iOS is that it's fast(er) and intuitive. However, this gapp is gradually being closed as the Nexus 4 has virtually no lag at all, at least not really more than the iPhone. Some OS features do still lag though, even though the hardware is good enough to take care of them, which kind of sucks. As for intuitifity (is that a word?), in my opinion Android is not really any worse, and some would argue it's better. Things like having all your downloaded apps integrated (as stated in the gizmodo article above) is just better.
If you are going to tweak around with custom ROMs I wouldn't even doubt a second. The N4 has the price going for it (really, how can one not see that? The iPhone is twice as expensive, and it's certainly not twice as good), it has Android (which means tweaking, if you're into that), and now that the hardware is fast and Android became mature, it's also fast and intuitive without having to tweak around.
Have both. While the iPhone is going back (merely because it is equally good but far more expensive), it is in my opinion the better looking device, definitely the more premium device, and iOS is still a little smoother, faster, and more consistent and refined than Android is at the moment. Google know Android has a way to go yet in terms of fit and finish, but in terms of features and flexibility, it is currently the market leader. And it is crystal clear that Google are heading in the right direction - ICS and JB were massive steps forward over what were pretty poor predecessors.
Which I prefer? Honestly, if I was given either I'd be chuffed. The iPhone's hardware is far superior, but I do feel that Android's multitasking makes it for me.
Battery life...Nexus 4 would get around 6 hours of screen on time browsing over Wi-Fi, iPhone, around 9. Very vague I know, but it's a rough estimate. Over 3G, about the same; the iPhone 5 doesn't seem to hold onto its power on standby well at all.
How to convince your friends? I wouldn't. Let them play, let them judge based on the price tag.
iPhone: Faster, smoother, noticeably better cameras, noticeably better battery life, higher quality apps, less things to fix or workaround, much easier to use one handed (and I have large hands), much easier to back up, better build quality, significantly more choices in app and accessory ecosystem.
Nexus: Dramatically cheaper to own and use! Open - off contract, more customizable, widgets, accessible file system, more options for how to do things for the most part. It has a bigger display as well, but it gets in the way of one handed operation.
I like my Nexus 4 a lot, but if the iPhone was $350 and $30-50/month, it would be a tough decision to still go with the Nexus 4. I might, as I really like the usability and customizability of widgets and software like tasker and other utils, and being able access/stream/copy files to/from my network is really liberating. But there are still many rough edges to Android that don't exist with iOS.
If your friends are tinkerers and problem solvers Android is best. If they are not, and want the best user experience, let them keep their iPhones.

But I'll be honest, I was kinda jealous of my girlfriend's iphone 5 (with my s2). But after getting my N4, she's jealous of my phone =D

No idea where you got that number from, but 4 hours is about the limit I've seen.
If we're talking about a lot of browsing throughout the day on Wi-Fi, I get close to 6 hours. Daily usage with the majority of it on 3G, less of course, probably around the 4 hour mark.

Yes!
Why do you feel the need to show them anything? Why do you think they are deluded? Maybe you should worry about your own stuff and they worry about theirs.
But like a number of other users have said, the pros for the n4 are custom roms/tinkering and price, if your friends don't care about those things then you aren't going to convince them the n4 is the better phone.

you should get over 4 hours wifi, I got 4.30 on stock, 5 hours display on wifi easy, or 6 clocked at 1100mhz

iphone is for the majority who upgraded from a nokia 3310 and don't know what to expect in a phone, just want emails etc
android for those who like freedom to customize and know what to expect when they spend money.
There is plenty to like and dislike about both phones.
The one that fills more of your likes then dislikes is the better phone for you.
Sorry iPhone 5 beats N4 but Samsung Galaxy 3 is iPhone slayer.

Having just switched from an iphone 4 to the N4, the one thing that I can't believe hasn't been built into Android yet is lockscreen notifications. I understand you can pull the notification bar down, but I'd like to see something like iOS or Windows Phone 8 where I can see at a glance how many unread emails, msgs, missed calls I have without having to buy apps to do it. Not seeing the screen wake up when I receive a new notification is different too (also to quickly glance), but I'm getting used to that.

No offense but I am still waiting for the pixel to become available to purchase mine, but according to this the pixel is slower than the one plus 3!? I already own a one plus 3 now I am bit skeptical if I should spend 600$ on a phone that is slower..
I wouldn't if you already have a Oneplus 3. Especially since a Oneplus 4 shouldn't be too far off, and it will for sure curb stomp the pixel.
That being said, I'm getting the Pixel just for the better camera and daydream. And currently I'm just using a cheap Huawei, because my note7 was recalled

ZTE axon 7 got QHD screen and is twice as cheap.
It may open up some games faster but its not a " faster" experience. You have to remember that these kinds of comparisons are never black and white. If this changes your mind then you're an idiot.

Why is not a faster experience one plus runs nearly stuck android. One plus is the closes to stock that you will get aside from Google. And it almost outperformed the pixel in every test. I dont want to agree as I will. E leaving the op3 for the pixel due to the quick updates for the pixel phone but is pathetic that Google makes a phone that performs just like a 400$ phone and price it twice as high..

They are running two different versions of Android, and they have both optimized their software differently. The Pixel very well could have theirs optimized for battery life rather than app performance such as the OP3.. There are too many variables.

There is no rationalizing with folks who are caught up on the price of the Pixel......
I paid $37,000 for a Jeep Wrangler.. Thing has less options and modern amenities than a $20,000 Hyundai.... But it's a Jeep. It is what it is folks... More senseless grumbling, I guess it will subside eventually..

All I know is I've never had an android phone that was buttery smooth all the time like iOS runs on iPhone. The latest android phones i've used before the Pixel were the Nexus 6, 6P, 5X, Note 7, & S7 Edge and those phones always had hickups here and there in different apps so I've mainly been back on iPhone for the last 1-2 years. The Note 7 you could tell was snappy, but jump in the browser and start scrolling and it would 'hesitate' or 'lag' but it was never butter like the iOS browser. The Pixel is as close to iOS smooth that I have seen on an android phone and it is a very welcome feeling.
Like I've been saying: It's not about cold hard specifications. It's about how the WHOLE package comes together as a unit. The Pixel is a great example where the phone is greater than the sum of its parts. Google optimized the **** out of this device -- which is probably one of the reasons why it's so smooth. You could also argue that this optimization also greatly enhanced battery life. These two things together could take away from super-fast game loading which is why it's being beaten at this task by some older/lesser devices.
It's how you look at the TOTAL picture folks... like I said, it's not white and black.

What would you chose a Lexus or a Mercedes-Benz?..
Believe me, the OnePlus 3 is not as great as many reports suggest - I can't wait to get rid of mine. It replaced a reliable Nexus 6P four months back and that was one of the worst phone decisions I've ever made. Why? Yes the OnePlus 3 is a very, very good phone in many ways. It's an piece of very solid hardware with a great camera and all the top specs you could want.
However, one of its key features that got my attention was the promise of a stock android experience. My mistake was I assumed that meant everything would be similar to my experience of Nexus phones (I'd had the 6P, the 6, the 5 and the 4 so far).Sure, I guessed updates would be less frequent, but overall I expected the same quality of software as a Nexus. How wrong I was. From the start, there were just so many bugs: for the first two months the on screen nav bar didn't work properly so I had to use the hardware buttons. There were problems with the mobile network connection; often settings i changed kept reverting to default after a reboot; notifications failed, ringtones were too loud; screen auto brightness levels were crazy; there were problems with SIM settings; and the battery drained very randomly. Wth every successive update that OP pushed out, only some of these bugs were fixed but even more new bugs were let loose. I think they've had to release urgent hot fixes for at least 3 monthly updates so far to address major issues. So now I can see why they are selling their phone so cheap: OP are woefully behind the bigger phone manufacturers when it comes to software development resources. For many that's worth it to save so much money, but not me
Worst still, if my own experience of OP's Community Builds programme to showcase and test new features is anything to go by, their stock android promise is about to be broken. They plan to introduce elements of their android software designed for the Chinese market. Think MIUI and you'll begin to get the picture. That's too much for any Nexus fan so guess what? My Pixel XL is ordered and arriving Wednesday and my OP3 is getting sold to my local second hand phone store right after that.
I can't wait to get back to a stable, reliable Google device again, even if the Pixel's pricing is ridiculous.

Its the same exact price as the iPhone designed to directly compete with the iPhone. Nexus phones were never meant to be a huge money maker for Google -- the Pixel is, and as such is priced and marketed as such.

I think the pixel should of been a nexus 6p with a 5.5 inch display and updated specs keep everything else the same including the front facing speakers. Now that I would thrown my money at Google for.

The Nexus 6P had a premium feel to it, but was made poorly. Watch what happens on YouTube when you try to bend one. I like the Pixel design much better... no visor/camera hump, much more study, two-tone unique back design, etc.

So, I wanted to try something different, and I was allowed to use an iPhone 6 Plus for a period of time, to see what the competition has to offer. I gave it a good try, and after two weeks of use, I am switching back to my Nexus 6.
Here is why:
1. Notifications - Google has really hit the nail on the head with its notifications screen. On Apple, they are an unorganized mess. I cannot delete emails from the notification screen. I cannot add YouTube videos to my Watch Later list from the notification. Most of this has to do with Google apps - they just have more options from the notification shade than on iOS.
2. Fingerprint sensor - sure, the Nexus 6 doesn't have one. But the fingerprint sensor on the iPhone 6 Plus is slow. And without Android's fantastic Smart Lock feature, it just takes longer to unlock an iPhone. And this leads me to my next point.
3. Android Wear - I got a Moto 360 Sport for Christmas, and it works so well with my Nexus 6. It barely functions with iOS. Smart Unlock, notifications, actions, all of it works so well on Android's platform, but Apple, being closed-sourced, barely allows me to connect my watch.
4. Open Source - this one is obvious. When I switched to Android from an iPhone back in 2012, it was because the Samsung Galaxy S3 had that big screen (big being relative to 2012). Today, it is about customization. Yes, iOS has a HUGE advantage over Android with updates and longevity of support for devices, but you are locked into only the features Apple will bestow upon you. With Android, you can do it all.
5. The Form Factor - I just love the Nexus 6. Dual front facing speakers. Small bezels. Round back. The dimple. The iPhone 6 Plus is a sleek looking piece of metal, but I just always go back to that N6 design. I think maybe only the Nexus 5 beats it in terms of simplicity, but the features I mentioned above puts the N6 in a special category.
There are lots of other little things about using iOS for two weeks that I came to both appreciate and be bothered about, but I wanted to keep the list to 5 major issues.
And there have been several phones since the Nexus 6 came out that have a design that I have liked, such as the HTC 10 and Moto G5 Plus, but they are missing key features, especially those front facing speakers.

Welcome back
We talked about a N6 successor, but there's no one which could replace shamu.. Axon 7 is the closest but have some lacks, especially about unlocking bootloader..
We'll see Taimen this autumn.

Here are a few things I enjoyed about the iPhone:
iMessage - seriously, Apple figured out messaging years ago, how is it that Google is still struggling to put together a single messaging app as simple and effective as iMessage?
FaceTime - like iMessage, Apple's integration of a video app into the phone app is so simple and intuitive.
Battery percentage - come on Google, it's time to give us a stand-alone battery percentage. Most custom ROMs have this, add it!
Slow motion video - yes, I know it was added with the N6P, but I'll miss it on my shamu.

And here are a few things Apple needs to add to iOS:
Restart - it took Google years to add a restart option, iOS still does not have it. Sure, you can do a reset by pressing and holding the power and home buttons, but that is not as intuitive as just holding the power button and bringing up a menu.
Clear apps - again, this is still relatively new to Android, but iOS does not have it. So if you want to close all of your apps, get to sliding.
Better notifications in the lock screen - iOS users have to choices from the lock screen: view and clear. I took for granted how easy Android makes it to delete unwanted emails from a notification. No such option on an iPhone.
More open-source ability - yeah, I know. Wishful thinking.

Its kinda funny that you mention open source when Google is closing up more and more parts of android every day. You do know that what is pushed to aosp is "not" what Google ships on the devices right?
The deal with Imessage is that all messages are routed through apple severs. Which is not only a privacy issue but security hole (how ever unlikely) Dont expect google to do that or many people willing to deal with it.
Im surprised you didnt go to the 6p with all the issues the n6 will have from here on out with the introduction to 8 and after being about as stable as a buggy port.
Well, I am thinking about going to the 6P. I am going to sell the iPhone and probably will have enough for a decent 6P. At least then I get another year of software updates. I just never fancied the look of the 6P - that cyclops back is an eyesore.
As for the percentage. You can activate it by activating system ui tuner. If u are on 7.0
Other than that. The Smartphone market is a mess.
You know, the saddest thing probably is that there wont ever be a device that can replace our devices.
I have my battery percentage embedded in the battery icon turned on, but it is not as simple as just a plain percentage, no icon. I've been on PureNexus for some time, went back to stock when I switched to the iPhone. I might go back to PN, not just for the battery percentage, but for updates and improvements over stock.

My Nexus 6 will be banned from updates in October this year.
I think at that time a peacefully period will start. No more updates .....just using a decrypted and smooth device.

You act like android is really something new. It's not really. Everything you are doing on Android was being done before Android was a thing. Hell we already had custom launchers, apps, widgets, themes, roms, all of it a decade ago. Before even Apple. So it has all been done before.
The only difference between the two is life styles. You have android for those that want to mess with their device and you have E apple for those that just want it to work when they need it to.

Very slow - it is actually the first phone I've put my sim card in that has a fingerprint sensor, but as I know several people with a Nexus 5X, I had higher expectations for this sensor. Having to press it is an inconvenience. Having to hold my finger on the sensor for at least one second (first world problems!) took longer than I expected.
I will say this - though it was slow, I really liked having the fingerprint sensor. So I bought a Nexus 6P.
After two years with the amazing Nexus 6, I finally have moved on. It was an amazing phone, perhaps the best I will ever own. But like all good things, it was time to move on. As such, this is my last post in the N6 forum, I am moving on to the N6P forum. Thanks for an amazing two years, Shamu, I will miss you!
So this is just a trash talk on the iPhone 6s plus? I have both phones. The experiences you detail on the iPhone are pure crap. I repeat. Pure crap. You didn't have that phone long enough to even give it a chance. Hope you don't do that with women. I find that I use the iPhone 6s + all the time because of its ease of use. It's finger print scanner is quick. Google offers every app in the app store. You can also use the native email app Apple supplied which works great. Also the battery life on the iPhone 6s+ out does the Nexus 6 by almost 5 hours. The fact that you took up valuable space to advertise your dislikes for a piece of equipment that you gave no time with is utterly disrespectful and blatantly corruptive. I use the Nexus 6 on AT&T (which I've had since the beginning) and use the iPhone 6s+ on Verizon. The fact that these devices are two entirely different worlds, making comparisons to one another is redundant. People will like Android or Apple. That's their choice. That's their preference. I use both. Each one has it's unique features and I embellish all of them. Hooray that you tried something and wanted to share it but all you did was spark controversy among the threads. Nothing important nor informative. Only your likes and dislikes on the iPhone 6s+. Congratulations. This was my two cents seeing how this forum is a complete waste.

iPhone user : "Dear Android user, buy an iPhone. It's a pretty well working phone"
Android user : "Dear iPhone user, you can have the same thing for twice as cheap"
We're both talking about high-end phones, which perfectly work in each case. Just some different habits. You right about that.
Even security policy are different, not better or worst...
Each side has its advantages and its inconveniences..
That being said, he just gave his opinion about his experiment. With his eyes.

Both Android and IOS have its pros and cons. Doesnt make either better or worse. Its just what you prefer.
